PDF printing - User wants larger printed font

All,
When printing custom reports using the PDF option, the printed output seems to be delivered in only one font size. I changed the font size in the report to 14 for each column from the default and it appears larger on line, but when printing with PDF I can only get one, rather small font size. My reports look great when printing as PDF, but a user has complained that the print on the hard copy is too small.
Any suggestions on how to get larger printed copies from PDF? Glasses?
Manipulation and printing with Excel is too time consuming.
Thanks,
Dan

To date, this is considered a product limitation. I just talked with an escalation manager regarding this very issue, and he offered to bring this up with the product managers/engineers tomorrow 5/15/09. I recommend escalating this issue and asking your escalation manager to do the same.

I don't think you can connect a printer since you won't have the printer drivers. I use FingerPrint from collobos.com to print to my non-AirPrint printers.

  • PDF printing: user A clicks "print" and it prints to user B's computer!

I had a user call me up very distressed b/c she had tried to print a database report (using PDF to file, the only printer we have allowed) and turned out that it printed on another user's local computer instead of hers! Confidential information was shared unwillingly and she was very upset.
I looked further and it looks like in a shared account (multiple users logged into Win2003 w/ same username and password) when a user goes to print she can see a printer for each active session. We have "make pdf to file printer default in win2000/20003" checked.
What is going on? When a user goes to print from an application on our win2003 application server, she should only see ONE printer, not a printer for every active session. This seems like a horrible breach of security, trust, etc.
Hope I'm doing something wrong here.
We cannot create a new windows profile for each new user so we need to get this working in an environment where most of our accounts are shared.
    Thank you

OK, have done some testing and speaking w/ Microsoft people. If I understand correctly, here is what's happening:
When user A logs in, SGD autocreates a PDF printer for her with title "...session 1" and modifies the registry HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVerion\Windows\Device to make this newly created printer as the default printer.
If she prints, it goes to her local computer.
Then when user B logs in SGD does the same thing - it autocreates a printer and modifies the registry to set the default printer. Only now the default printer is "...session 2. Since SGD modifies the same registry key, user A's default printer is now "...session 2" as well so if user A prints to the default printer, the job will end up on user B's local computer because user B's session is session 2.
Sun - since SGD handles session management, can't it tell which RDP session a print job is coming from and direct it to the correct client?

  • Need help!  Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard will not print to printer, only want to print to prn file.

I have done a repair on the file,  I have installed the lastest updates, and nothing works.  My next step would be to uninstall and reinstall the program.  Does anyone have a fix for this?  I have always been able to print PDF files and this just started this week.
    Thanks for any help!

Nothing is broken, and uninstalling will probably not help.
You have an option PRINT TO FILE in the print dialog and you must turn it OFF.

Try to print a test page or make a copy of a document and see if you get the same results. If you do not get same results, uninstall and re-install software and drivers.

  • Printing on a new printer

    Hello All,
In one of the handling unit related layouts, user wants to print the output on a different printer ( that is picked up from a table based on sy-uname ) other than the printer that is set in SU3 transaction.
This has been working earlier for him. Now, when i tried to check the same, this is working for me but not for the user.
i guess there is some settings with respect to printer or authorisation issues.
    Appreciate ur help on this.
    Regards,
    Poornima

It depends on the printer. iOS devices can only print directly to AirPrint printers. All AirPrint printers are wireless but not all wireless printers are capable of using AirPrint.
To print directly from an iPad / iPhone you will need an AirPrint compatible printer or another device to act as a print server. That can be a Mac computer running Printopia ($19.95 with free trial) or handyPrint (donation - supported). The Mac must be "on" but may be asleep for them to work. Equivalent PC options may exist but you're on your own finding them.
You can also buy this standalone print server:
    http://www.lantronix.com/it-management/xprintserver/xprintserver.html
These options enable you to use any printer available to your network, even older ones that may predate AirPrint by decades.
Otherwise you will need to buy an AirPrint printer or multifunction device.

  • Saving as PDF for print, want to preserve fonts

    Hi everyone,
I've been a web designer for a few years, but just now getting into print design. I'm working on some wedding invitations and I'm getting the order printed through uprinting.com. I got a proof back, but their comments said I need to either convert my text to outline if I submit an .ai file, or I need to save as PDF to embed the fonts for their use.
I'm not sure which option is "best", but since I know how to convert text to outline, could someone please help me figure out how to export to PDF so that my fonts are preserved?
I've got Illustrator CS6 by the way, thanks!

Save A Copy... Save as PDF. The default settings include embedding fonts in the PDF. Only fonts which have a bit turned on to allow embedding will embed. Most do.
To make sure your fonts are embedded, open the PDF in Acrobat. File>Properties>Fonts tab.
Read up on embedding fonts in online help.

  • Printing problem when PDF is sent to the printer with certain fonts - missing text

I'm running into a printing problem when PDFs containing certain characters of the Calibri font are used.  The text in large sections of the PDF is missing on the paper version, but the text is there on the screen.  It's also happened when the PDFs we created were e-mailed out to a client and printed on their printer.  The problem is not present when printing directly from the programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, etc.).  I've been trying to get tech support from Adobe on this, but every time I call they apologize and say they will call back in 4-6 hours with an answer.  Same result each time, no call back.  If anyone from Adobe is listening, it's case number 184891587.  The font appears as an embedded subset when I look at the document properties.  Sometimes deleting one or two Characters allows for larger text blocks to be printed - i.e. removing a long dash in bold from the heading of a paragraph makes the paragraph reappear when printed to paper from PDF.  In all cases the PDF appears correct on the screen.  Printing as an image allows the text to appear, but the image quality isn't acceptable for small text, even at the 600 dpi setting on the printer.  If the PDF is sent out by e-mail, we do not have control over the end-user's printer setup anyway, so we need this to work in all cases.
The setup/process I'm using is as follows:
    Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-Bit
Microsoft Office 2013 - problem is present when printing documents from Word, Excel or Visio.  Even other variations on documents.
I've tried Acrobat versions 11.0.0 to 11.0.5 as well as Acrobat Pro 11.0.0 and 11.0.1.  Same Result
Printing to Adobe PDF as the printer, from the third party application
Printing to a Xerox printer from PDF using Acrobat - Text missing
Client prints to Konica printer - Text missing
I print to the wide-format Ricoh (which also does 11x17) and the text is present.
Is there something I'm missing?  Is the entire font not getting embedded into the PDF file?  I noticed that rolling back to a much older version of the Calibri font (1.02 compared to 5.72) makes the problem mostly go away, but it's not completely gone.  Is it possible the font is too large to be completely embedded?  Where can I go from here?

Success!  At least for now.  It looks like my problem was fixed with Adobe's most recent update, 11.0.06.  From the release notes:
    PDF creation
Added support for Lotus Notes 9.
Added support for WebCapture in IE 11.
Added support for conversions from AutoCAD 2013.
3652540 A blank pdf is created for files having hidden visual style.
3601108 Flow Chart converts as a multicolored square.
3654345 Word documents missing parts of images in conversion to PDF.
3654572 Temporary file size increases when creating pdf by combining multiple files into one PDF.
3670155 PDF file created with Distiller XI prints incorrectly to some printers. (Emphasis mine)
3599407 Checkbox check marks do not appear in these files.
3663233 IE Web Capture in localized OS: Icons and drop-down menu items are missing and conversion dialog is not localized.
3651931 Chrome Only: Few web pages when converted to pdf from Chrome plugin doesn’t show up the Save As dialog.
3597910 EPM Mode On: Web capture is not working on Windows 8-32 bit when cache folder is missing.
3610644 Firefox 23.0: With Firefox version 23.0 (latest), the WebCapture icon shows up very dim as if it is disabled.
3650244 ODA falis to convert DWG files to PDF for large files.
I don't know if that's definately what solved the problem, but it sure sounds similar and this is the update that made the printing problem go away.  We can't get the PDFs to fail at this point with our printers, even with Calibri 5.72.  I'll come back to thread if we have printing problems at the end-user locations.

  • I created a PDF file from InDesign and the printing company wants me to convert to curves...

... I don't have Illustrator, so I don't see how I can convert the file to curves and I really don't understand why I should have to. The file prints fine from my printer and when they proofed in on their printer there were no errors. So, why would they want me change it to an Illustrator file and convert to curves? This seems like the technology is going backwards instead of forward to me. Does anybody have any answers besides telling me to buy Illustrator (or subscribe to it) or telling me to recreate the document (which I don't have time to do? Thanks.

You should never convert font to outlines in InDesign, because:
You loose automatic numbers and bullets,
    you loose paragraph rules,
    you loose underline and strikethroug
you loose automatic follow up numbers
you loose text frames stroke and color.
Outlining is not possible with objects from the master without overriding, overiding will change the result in many cases, outlining on the master will either delete text or outline placeholders.
Outlining will be a huge problem with threads as you cannot outline the whole thread in one single step.
Peters method will not work without problems as such a preset had to be created in CS4 or earlier, it will not work with CS5 or later.
The only working method is to educate your printer.
Ask him why he wants to outline the text? How does he open your PDF? The only program he is allowed to open it is Acrobat or Reader.

  • When printing from an online PDF, the page prints in extra large scale. How do I fix this?

when printing from an online PDF, the page prints in extra large scale. How do I fix this?

This can happen when Firefox has misread the paper size from the information supplied by Windows. Clearing it can involve finding some obscure settings, but here goes:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''print''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) For each setting for the problem printer, right-click and Reset it. The fastest way is to right-click with the mouse and then press the r key on the keyboard with your other hand.
Note: In a couple other threads involving Brother printers, the preference '''printer_printer_name.print_paper_data''' was set to 256 and when the user edited it to 1 that fixed the paper size problem. If you see a 256 there, you can edit the value by doubling-clicking it or using right-click>Modify.

  • How to print a pdf without user interaction (With C#)

My boss assigned me a task that to get the ImagePreview of 1st page of PDF.
My thought is to print the 1st page of PDF to file(virtual print to file), and get the image source, but there comes the problem:
How can print a pdf without user interaction(With C#),question are these:
    1. I can use the ShellExcute but cannot assign the destination of output file.
    2. User interface is unwanted, I don't want show anyone the Acrobat Reader interface who click the file just want to get a preview.
    3. No place to put those parameters in.
This problem confused me a lot of days, I wish someone can give some hints.
    Thank you very much!
(Maybe you will tell me to use Acrobat SDK, please don't, I'm afraid we cannot afford that)

A PDX is a search database to allow you to do fast searching in
    Acrobat.
    >
    >About the relationship between Adobe Reader and Acrobat, as far as I know is that, the previous one is just the reading tool for PDF document, instead, Acrobat can modify and resave the PDF doc. Is it right?
Effectively, yes. But the Acrobat SDK is mainly for working with
Acrobat. It's very important to keep this clear, since you have said
you only have the free Reader, so 95% of what is in the SDK cannot
    work for you.
    >
    >Simply my questions,
    >1. I don't know which dll to refer in the .Net project to print with. Is the ActiveX folder in product folder?
Simply, there is no point asking these questions, yet, because you
have not started on the documentation.
But let's continue in the SDK forum, where I have posed what seems to
be a very important question about why print to file at all.
