Pdf prints broken characters

I have a MacBookPro software Mountain Lion 10.8.3, Acrobat vs 10.1.7. Multiple-page pdf displays fine, prints broken characters??? Can I upgrade to Acrobat 11 to rectify problem? How?

Not all pdfs, just this particular 48-page document. I am using an HP
Officejet 6500A+ which has not had problems of this type in the past. The
driver version is 4.1.1. Some of the characters aren¹t really broken BUT ARE
MISSING when I try to print the pdf. (See copy attached with areas circled
that are missing.) I ran a print quality diagnostic report and nothing was
out of the ordinary, nor were any characters missing. (See second
attachment.)
I¹m hoping you can help me find a solution. I really need to print this
document.
Thank you.

  • Windows 8.1 Adobe CS6 Adobe PDF printer broken after sysprep

Windows 8.1 enterprise 64 bit with CU1 installed. Ran sysprep priror to install. Installed Adobe Design and Web Premium CS6 & Premiere Pro CS6. The Adobe PDF printer is working with UAC enabled threw all PC accounts. Ran sysprep (standard generalize, skip rearm, & skip all win 8.1 questions) with UAC disabled since bat files will not run with UAC enabled. After UAC is enabled you can't print using the Adobe PDF printer unless running from Administrator account or by disabling UAC. We also have Adobe CC except the instructor is currently teaching CS6 suites. I tested acrobat 10.0.0 & 10.11.1 same problem after sysprep.

Have you tried running Process Monitor to see where the permissions problems are occurring?

  • PDF Printing Broken in FM10 Win7 64bit

    1) When printing As PDF, the FM doesn't use fonts correctly. I get font substitutions. It doesn't match the PDF setting in the selected PDF distiller profile I selected (embed all fonts).
    2) When printing to Acrobat Printer, the file name window opens with just the header bar (when I tab through windows) without the windows. It locks FM - Not Responding. Have to go into the task manager and kill the FM tree (right click process). Have to reset the files when I reopen the book.
I believe this second one is a know bug mentioned earlier. Probably both of then.
I now have to go old school and print to a postscript file and drop it into the Distiller.
I don't see how testing coiuld miss this one during FM10 beta.

    Hi,
I canot print from FM to P'DF aswell. If I should start another thread please let me know.
    I am running FM 10 (TCS 3 upgrade) Win 7 32bit
I have been able to print PDF up until yesterday. I did update Adobe Captivate in the morning, I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
In FM, when I select Save as PDF from the file menu I don't see Distiller open, but a .tps file is created (0 bytes).
When trying to create a PDF directly from Distiller I get the error message [ Error: syntaxerror; OffendingCommand: M ].
Thanks for any help that can be offered.

  • Regd PDF printing in other languages....

    Hi,
We are using SAP Integrated ITS 640 basis patch level 18. We configured the front end PDF printer device and it is working properly .When users login with japanese language ,they are able to see the screen in japanese language . Their browser is set to japanese language. When they give pdf printing ,the characters inside the PDF are not coming properly. Is there anything to do with the ITS side. We have tested for Transaction VT70.
    Thanks,
    Vasu

    Hi all,
Atlast i am able to resolve the issue. The problem is with the output device type. I have front-end printing device with device type  <i>PDF ISO Latin </i> and that is why i am not able to see the japanese characters in PDF. I changed the devicetype to <i>PDF japanese</i> and am able to see Japanese characters in PDF.
Anyways thanks all for your help.
    Thanks

  • When i print a pdf from preview it prints strange characters - it looks fine on screen

when i print a pdf from preview it prints strange characters - it looks fine on screen

You can also try opening the PDF with preview, then doing a copy and paste to TextEdit and printing from there.
Adobe makes it easier, but you do have software to accomplish this.
Only download Adobe reader from this site, to avoid "fakes/spoofs/malware" that will cause damage to your machine.

  • Adobe PDF printer 'printing' garbage characters

Acrobat Professional v9.5.0 (Acrobat reports there are no updates available)
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
I print from various applications and web pages to my 'Adobe PDF' printer to save things as PDF files.
Over the last several months, I have begun to have issues with printing to my Adobe PDF printer. This issue happened twice just yesterday, actually.
I will be looking at a web page, and choose to print it to PDF (a purchase receipt for example). I supply the filename and choose to print, and Acrobat will bring up the newly created PDF and it will have garbage characters in various places.
If I try printing it to PDF again, I get the same results.
However, if I print the item to Microsoft XPS format, it works just fine and all the characters are readable.
I don't know what to do. I saw an article about embedding the fonts, but it appears that all the standard 'web safe fonts' are already set to be embedded in PDF files via distiller (if that is what is actually doing the printing to create the PDF). If I have to choose more fonts to embed into the PDF, it seems to be extremely difficult to determine what fonts are being used by each site or application and choosing them all manually to be embedded in the files.
Surely there has to be a simpler solution to this issue.

I too had this annoying issue, usually printing from https sites, although the site address may be coincidental.
    What worked for me was:
    Select Print
In the print dialog box, select Adobe PDF and then Preferences.
In the Printing Preferences dialog box the tab should be Adobe PDF Settings
Uncheck the box next to Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts
    Select OK
If the box is already unchecked, it might be caused by something similar. This worked so I went no further. I have not yet checked to see if this must be done each time or how to make it default.

  • Problems with special characters with XML/PDF printing

    Hi,
    Our setup:
    Apex Listener 2.0.5
    Oracle DB 11G
    Weblogic
    Apex 4.2.2
    Various recent major browsers
We used this blog post so we could do some PDF printing with APEX Listener:
    http://marcsewtz.blogspot.be/2013/04/pdf-printing-with-oracle-application.html
The problem is special characters. For example the "&" sign comes out as "%26amp;" when we export an XML.
Could anyone provide some insights of what we can do to fix this?
    Regards,
    Joni

  • Adobe PDF printer not printing past 180 pages   random garbage characters

I am in IT and I have a user whose PDF printer will not convert docs to PDF past 180-182 pages. It gives her an error about that place in the doc that says there was nothing selected and that none of it was converted when in reality it converted it all (up to 180-182 pages). On top of this it will place random illegible characters throughout the PDF with no apparent order. We've re-installed Adobe multiple times and updated it.
I've looked everywhere to find an answer so I'm now here.

A print to PDF is an entirely different process than using the Save As Adobe PDF. If you use the Save As PDF or XPS, you are using the MS plugin, not the one from Adobe. The results can vary depending on the preferences selected and such. Usually when the print fails it is due to either AcroTray not running or an error from Distiller (and recorded in the log as long as the log is not turned off). If you have a lot of graphics, the print process can run into memory limitations (usually from the TEMP folder issue) due to the initial conversion to PS that can be huge. The graphics are generally not compressed much until they get into the PDF.
If you are having problems with the print process, the first step is to try a print to file. This process creates a PS file (may have a prn extension). If that file is created, the next step is to open the file in Distiller to create the PDF. If there are errors from Distiller, you will see them at this step. Errors are often related to color settings or fonts that cannot be embedded. Maybe that will give you some things to consider.

  • "printing" to .pdf is broken

I can't creat a .pdf using "print" command, although "Adobe PDF" is listed as one of the printers.  I get the error message:  "Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer setup."  If I click printer properties, I get the message:  "Windows cannot bring up the properties because the printer returned an error.  This started after someone re-installed my print drivers and fooled around with my print spooler because there was a problem.  I can't print to any other physical printer.  I updated Acrobat 8.1 which is what I have.  I made Adobe PDF my default printer.  Suggestions?  Is there a print driver for Acrobat PDF "printing"?  If so, where is it?  I thought it would be in the updates.  Thanks.

I am not very good at reading the Distiller error message. However, it is saying a font can not be found. Temporarily, go into the job settings file and select warn and continue or ignore for the embedding fonts warning. The default typically is set to fail. After you get a PDF, check to see which font is giving you problems. The fonts have to be included in Distiller or you will get this error and failure of you do not have one of the first two options selected. Don't know if that will help, but it is something to look at.

  • PDF printing errors with HP Officejet Pro 8000

When printing from FireFox PDF preview I always get a print feed jam error when printing the last 2 pages pages using double sided printing. There as been several documents that fail to print correct characters when using the HP (prints correctly using my Epson 88+).

  • Photoshop CS3 printing garbage characters on HP LaserJet 1300

After installing CS3, Photoshop prints garbage characters on my HP LaserJet 1300.
Yes, I have tried printing as ASCII, ASCII85, Binary and JPEG - nothing helps (plus the settings won't stick even after holding down Alt and clicking the Remember button).
The only way to print right now is to choose Save as PDF in the print dialogue, open the PDF in Adobe Reader and print from there.
    Any ideas?

tzw - I responded about this on another forum. I talked to technical support at Adobe about this exact issue about 2 months ago - can't print photoshop CS3 on any of my three HP printers. ( I have a HP1200, an HP 2550 and a HP photosmart 7660) (CS2 works fine) They worked with me for about an hour - called me back and worked some more, and then decided to send it up to the programmers (or engineers or whatever) The programmers called me and worked with me for another hour - trying different set-ups etc., but the conclusion by them was that this was a huge problem in that there were a lot of HP printers out there - that they were going to give this their top priority - and that there would be a fix for this soon. (I have yet to see a fix.)

  • PDF printing problems

    Dear All,
I have migrated Application developed in Forms & Reports 6i (Client-Server) to Oracle10giDS. All the reports output is generating in PDF format. It is running perfectly OK and getting printed on All dot Matrix printer. But on the Line Printer it is printing junk Characters. I have tried all possible solution related to Printer configuration but it fails.

    2) Can I generate the ouput directly in WORD at client
side? if yes, please suggest me how to do it.
    3) We are using LIPI T-6100 Line printer. If you have

That shouldn't even be possible: Standard and Pro are mutually exclusive. Not surprised it has broken.
    My recommendation
    a. Make sure you have your Standard serial numbers and install media.
    b. Uninstall the one you don't want at the moment.
    c. REPAIR the one you do want.
