PDF problem part 2...

I guess a lot of people are having pdf problems.
When I export a pdf of a Travel Journal doc and view with adobe reader 7.0, the borders on the photos are not there.
What is the word on this?
As you can see I don't have Tiger /PDF-X.
Thanks

Not certain if this is quite the same thing, but.......
I have found problems when exporting to pdf, not when I open in Preview but when the person I am emailing the file to opens it in Acrobat, as all drop shadows are then lost, this makes professional printing difficult.
Resolved it for the moment by:
1. exporting to pdf as normal
2. using Graphic Converter which comes bundled with OSX to create a PSD file and sending that electronically. Slight problem was that the size of the file increased from 3mb to about 27mb, so had to download a free copy of Cyberduck ftp programme too. In fact saving it to jpeg was just about as good.
3. you do have to do one page at a time but it works.

  • Merging pdf problem

    Hi there,
    I've used Adobe Acrobat XI to merge two pdfs which I am viewing side by side. The problem is the left hand pdf contains part of the right hand pdf and the right hand pdf contains part of the left hand pdf, so when they are joined there is repetition down the middle (sorry, I couldn't think of a better way to describe this). Basically I need to overlap the middle so that both pdfs join smoothly and become 1 readable document. Does anyone know how to solve this?
    Thanks

    You can build your own PDF merge utility using the PDF Merge and split libraries for .NET from from http://www.dotnet-reporting.com or http://www.winnovative-software.com .
    You can use it to merge PDF files, html files, text files and images,
    set the page orientation, compression level and page size.
    All this can be accomplished with only a few lines of code:
    PdfDocumentOptions pdfDocumentOptions = new PdfDocumentOptions();
    pdfDocumentOptions.PdfCompressionLevel = PDFCompressionLevel.Normal;
    pdfDocumentOptions.PdfPageSize = PdfPageSize.A4; pdfDocumentOptions.PdfPageOrientation = PDFPageOrientation.Portrait;
    PDFMerge pdfMerge = new PDFMerge(pdfDocumentOptions);
    pdfMerge.AppendPDFFile(pdfFilePath);
    pdfMerge.AppendImageFile(imageFilePath);
    pdfMerge.AppendTextFile(textFilePath);
    pdfMerge.AppendEmptyPage();
    pdfMerge.AppendHTMLFile(htmlFilePath);
    pdfMerge.SaveMergedPDFToFile(outFile);

  • Accessible PDF problem

    I need to create accessible PDFs as part of my workflow. I use Indesign 5.5 and have applied "bevel and emboss" to an image. However, the resulting PDF fails the accessibility checker and reports that the offending image is "inaccessible content" and doesn't show up in the structure of the PDF. If the effect is turned off in InDesign, the PDF passes the test. Anyone know a workaround or the reason this is happening?.

    Thanks Steve
    I don't need to "think" about accessibility and I know all about alt tags as I've been doing this for years. However, I've never used InDesign's bevel/emboss on an image before and therefore have never encountered this error. The PDF is for the consumption of everybody: disabled and non-disabled (the hosting site will only allow the uploading of one PDF, so variations cannot be created). I acknowledge that people with visual impairments will not be able to appreciate the effects, but non-disabled users will.
    However, the use of Photoshop is a good workaround (presuming that will get through). Just don't why this particular effect in InDesign would make the image "inaccessible content".
    Thanks again

  • Illustrator Save to PDF problems

    I have Illustrator CS 14.0.0 and Acrobat Pro 9 (9.1.1 to be specific) extended and I cannot save the pdf format from Illustrator. I try over and over and it just does not work... it just locks up Illustrator forcing me to use the Windows XP task manager to kill Illustrator becuase it is simply frozen and I have no other options. The failure is happening with large and small files of any complexity. I would like to make use of the streamlined workflows in CS4... but his problem is big headache - especially if I would like to include special aspects of Illustrator features in the PDF file. The failure happen with save-as and with the basic save PDF. I was able to open (more or less like an import) the .ai file after saving from within Acrobat and that seems to be a work around for now. Is ther any updates for Acrobat or Illustrator to fix this save as PDF problem inside Illustrator CS4??

    I am experiencing exactly the same problem as reported in this thread.  I am using AI CS4.  When I try to save to PDF the programme freezes making it necessary to use the task manager to kill it.  I have been trying to identify the folders where the preferences are held but on this computer running windows xp the folder names do not match those in the thread.  Is there a specific file name that I can search for?

  • InDesign CS6 interactive pdf problem

    Hi, I've created an interactive pdf using InDesign CS6; document contains text fields and radio buttons. When exported the radio buttons flicker when you hover over them or click to make a selelction. Does anyone know how to prevent this? Many thanks

    I have a hunch it could be an Acrobat/Reader limitation.
    Set up a part of the form without the radio buttons but just use circles. Export a PDF and open in Acrobat. Use Acrobat's Form Field Recognition to turn the circles into radio buttons (or use Acrobat's form feature to create radio buttons with the same value).
    I doubt it's InDesign that's the problem.

  • PDF problem, perhaps ?

    If this is not the strict correct forum for this question, I apologize but it was the best I could find;
    I use a lot of PDF files that I all create with OSX's "print as pdf"
    I, myself, have no problems opening and viewing and printing the files.
    However, when I send the files with Eudora as attachments to other people, most of them also have no problems at all, but from time to time there are some who complain;
    -uhhhh i cant open the pdf files you sent
    -uhhhh i cant view the pdf files you sent
    -uhhhh i cant print the pdf files you sent
    I have noticed that the pdf files created with "print as pdf" do not have an "Adobe" icon, and have tried to change the icon with apple+i to make the pdf file more "recoqnizable". I havent really noticed any positive feedback from others regarding this.
    What I mainly want to make 100 % sure; not 99,99 %, but 100 %;
    The pdf files that I create with "print as pdf" are 100 % normal PDF files that others, fx using WINDOWS, dont have to treat any different than an ADOBE created pdf file.
    Can anyone verify this ?
    Can I be 100 % sure that the "complainers" only have themselves to blame ?
    Fx that they simply dont know enough about opening pdf files ?
    I get the impression that what the "complainers" experience is, that they try to double-click the pdf file icon and nothing happens.
    Is there a better ( read foolproof ) way to open an pdf file ?
    Any insight is greatly appreciated.

    This could be happening for many reasons. For example: an encoding/decoding problem with your or their email program; a decompressing problem with their email program; an outdated PDF reader, or a PDF reader doesn't fully support the PDF standard, etc. You need more details from each individual to solve their problem.

    The icon on your PDF files only has meaning on your Mac. The icon is not part of the PDF file. Rather, it's added by the operating system on the computer. So once the PDF file leaves your Mac, it's uses whatever PDF icon is the default on the recipient's computer.

    No one can provide a 100% guarantee that this is the case. There are just too many variables to consider. Personally, I've never had problems opening Mac OS X created PDF files using Adobe Reader v5 or v6 on a PC running Windows.
    Is there a better ( read foolproof ) way to open an
    pdf file ?
    Nope. Giving it a file extension of .pdf and double-clicking it works for both PCs and Macs.

  • Ps to PDF problem

    Hello there,
    I've a little annoying problem with distiller. I'm using a linux program which is creating ps files than transferring into windows and converting to .pdf with distiller. But PS files have this string;
    stroke showpage savepage
    this causes a program termination and distiller stops working. Than I'm changing string with this;
    stroke showpage savepage restore
    it's working and converting to pdf.
    Now it's not possible to modify linux program to create the second command line. Is there any way to get pdf files with first situation?

    This seems more a question about bad PostScript: the PostScript
    programming forum may be more suitable. It's not possible to say
    whether it should work, because savepage is not a part of the
    PostScript language. It is a procedure somewhere else in the file.

  • Spool to PDF - Problems with downloading PDF file when converting with job

    Hi all!
    I've got a problem. I've got a program that writes a smartform into the spool. After that, I am using the function modules RSTS_GET_ATTRIBUTES and CONVERT_OTFSPOOLJOB_2_PDF to convert it into PDF. I retrieve a internal table with the binary content for the PDF file. Now i can download the file to the desktop by using the method cl_gui_frontend_services=>gui_download.
    But there is a problem: when the spool excesses 99 pages, the function module CONVERT_OTFSPOOLJOB_2_PDF asks the user via popup if the PDF should be created in background. If the user commits, the internal tables that should contain the binary PDF data is emtpy. A background job writes the binary data into the spool. The user has got an empty file that will be generated by cl_gui_frontend_services=>gui_download.
    So, is it possible to suppress the popup to create the PDF allways online? Or how can I write the PDF file if there will be create any spool id in background? You'll find my current code below.

    Creating a PDF file with over 99 pages through SAP seems rather unreasonable to me. What are you printing - Encyclopedia Britannica? For cripes sake... Have you thought about creating more than one spool request or using something completely different? Why do you have to do this through spool? You can get Smartform output directly into PDF, there are a lot of example out there.
    The only solution that comes to mind is rather brutal - create a copy of the function module and get rid of the popup. Although it just might time out after that...

  • PDF problem when used in Pro/ENGINEER

    Since the company I'm with now does not use separate part numbers for every different part, and a lot of times the description is the same (i.e. "TUBE"), many times everything with the description of "TUBE" comes in on the parts list in the same row with a quantity equal to everything with "TUBE" as a description. Needless to say, this causes a lot of problems with balloons etc. So, I added the parameter "&asm.mbr.name" to one of the cells to force a separate row for each unique filename, but made the text height .000001 so it wouldn't print. This works fine in printig from Pro/E directly, or making a PDF using the "TrueType" font option. But when we use the "Stroke All Fonts" option, the values for the parameter "&asm.mbr.name" show up as dots, which our checkers are demanding we remove. We can't simply use the "TrueType" font option as we want the font proportions we have on the format because the default .8 width text then bleeds over into other cells. I tried to put that one piece of text for the parameter in the repeat region on a layer to turn off at the dwg level, but Pro/E won't let me even pick the text string. So, does anyone know a setting for creating the PDF's that will ignore things under a certain threshold?
    Thanks!
    Frank
    P.S.  I know this is a pretty unique application, but I'm hoping someone here will know what I'm talking about.

    I wouldn't assume that no. Lots of applications have their own PDF engines. Even other Adobe products. I would check with Pro/Engineer support.

  • Cross apps pdf problem

    I often have to open pdf's in illustrator and when saving back and opening in acrobat i sometimes get very thin white lines and boxes.
    I've been told this is just the view in acrobat and this will not print.....but i had a instance where they did.
    anyone had this problem and found a solutiion?

    @martin: Do you really need to open PDFs in Illustrator? Although it's possible, Adobe advises against round-tripping PDF files through AI. The ability to open PDFs in AI is intended so you can move a PDF document into an AI workflow (e.g. adding a logo to some artwork), but the PDF files that AI saves are created using different code - Acrobat isn't involved - and as you've found it can often introduce strange effects.
    @Alec : If you're seeing 1-pixel-wide white lines on screen at certain zoom scales (especially in conjunction with bitmap images) which aren't part of the original document, it's likely to be the result of ID slicing the page elements up into blocks for efficiency. Although they will line up exactly (and so print out OK), some of the display options in Acrobat (enhance thin lines etc) can reveal them if the zoomed scale of the screen image means the division between slices appears at a fraction of a pixel. Provided the files print OK there's nothing to worry about, but if your document is destined for screen display and it's bothering you, there's a Preflight fixup in Acrobat Pro to "detect and merge image fragments" which usually helps.

  • PDF+ problems displaying foreign characters

    I am opening PDF files from a Swedish newspaper in PDF+ application, but the Swedish local vowel variations (åäöÅÄÖ) are not displayed - instead they appear as rectangular boxes with an X inside.
    Reading on the PDF+ site, they say that for Japanese characters to be mapped properly, you need to extend the amount of pre-installed fonts - but for these characters, all part of the usual Latin1 character set this problem shouldn't occur?
    Anyone encountered any problems with "foreign" PDFs in PDF+?

    I did not come across this problem cos.. I cant open a PDF file on my E51. Just now opened a new thread for help.

  • Crystal Reports 8.5 export to PDF problem

    Hi Guys,
    I have an application developed in VB6 using a crystal reports 8.5 version and I'm having some problems to export to PDF. If I see the data on the Crystal Reports 8.5 designer It will export just fine, but if I try to do the same thing it will export only some information to the pdf file.
    This problem is just happening on rpt with Image Object and I can't export the reports where image do not exist. This image is being loaded from an access 97 database. It is a 10 years old program.
    Hope to get this issue solved.
    Kind Regards,
    Manuel Rocha

    Hi Dear,
    Here I m also facing the similar problem with the crystal report 8.5 :
    Crystal Report (8.5) is not working on win7/windows 2008 64 bit system
    My application is a vb application and I am using Crystal report 8.5. It is working fine on 32 bit system and 64 bit system of Windows 2003 server. When I run the same application either on win7 64 bit or on 2008 64 bit, report does not open.
    I am using vb script to access the database.
    Part of the code written in the VB script file is as follows:
    Dim objrsRecordSet                 'As RecordSet
        Dim strSQL                         'As String
        '**** Open Database Connection using the parameters passed from the main program
        Set dbConnection = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
        dbConnection.ConnectionString = "Provider=SQLOLEDB;Server=" & mstrServer & ";uid=" & mstrUserName _
                                        & ";pwd=" & mstrPassword & ";Database=" & mstrDatabase & ";"
        dbConnection.Open
        dbConnection.CommandTimeout = 200
        dbConnection.Properties("Enable Fastload").Value = True
    Basically we have two visual basic projects developed in VB 6.0 language: let’s say
      1. Diapp (we consume the report.dll in this application, in order to generating the reports)
      2. Adacrystalapp (which is used for making the report.dll)
    Diapp application generating the reports on windows-XP(32 bit machines) without any problems but when I run the same application on 64 bit machines(win7/Vista…etc) report is not generating.
    If I run the both applications (Diapp, Adacrystalapp) in debug mode then reports are generating on 64 bit machines (win7/vista) also without any problems.
    Please help me out with this issue, i will appreciate for your response.

    Give them three more copies of the file. One with no comments or watermark. One with comments, but no watermark, one with watermark and no comments. Do they have problems with all three?
