PDF read only

Hi,
Is there a way in abap to determine if the pdf file uploaded from local is in read only?
Thanks in advance...

Dear AV,
While giving the print command...remove the tick option "print immediately" so that a spool request will generate...now execute T.Code: SP01 and take the spool number from there...now go to T.Code: SE38..enter program " RSTXPDFT4" and execute..enter your spool number..system will pop up a destination place where you want to save your Pdf document..click F4 and save accordingly.
Thanks,
N

  • Making a pdf "read only"

    Hello
I created a document (459 pages !!! ) in Microsoft Word and then converted it to Adobe Acrobat Professional.  It is stored on a drive which is shared by a "bunch" of users.  This was not a problem, before, because none of the folks who utilized the document had anything except ADOBE Reader.   Now, because of new functions they have to perform, more and more of the staff are getting Professional.
All of that said, I need to secure the document so that it is a "read only" document for everyone except me, whether it is opened in Reader or Pro.
I have tried using the help functions but I'm just not getting it     and need a little hand holding.
Can someone please walk me thru the steps of what I need to do.  ( Pretend I'm a total computer moron )
    Thank you.

You can configure the document's Security Settings to make the PDF read only.
    1. Click Document > Security > Show Security Settings for this Document.
    2.  Select Security Method as Password Security.
    3. At the Password Security Settings dialog, check the Permissions box and assign a Permissions password known only to you (users can open the document without knowing this password)
         a. Define a setting for printing of the document as needed
         b. Define the setting for changing the document (None=read only; other restrictions are possible—experiment!)
         c. Enable copying of the document if needed
    4. Click OK to save these settings.
    5. Retype the Permissions password in Step 3.
    6. You must save the document to preserve these settings.

  • Acrobat 8--Making a pdf Read-Only

My little pamphlet included with acrobat says I can make a pdf read-only. It never says another word about that. I tried security with passwords. What I got was some a document that wanted me to enter the password(s) each time I tried to access it. That's not what I wanted. There are hundreds of pdfs floating around on the web who seem to be read-only. I want to allow people to save, print and view it, but not modify it. How does one do that?

OK, I finally figured out how to remove password/permission (change), and then get just a change permissions password. I'm using the pop-up menu Documents Properties dialog to do this. When I look at the summary, it shows Changing the doc allowed, Commenting allowed, ..., Content copy allowed. However, when I go to Change Settings (via button), the story is different. The Changes Allowed pulldown selection shows None. If I pull it down, I see no way to make individual choices shown on the summary. Ah, got it. Good enough. Thanks.

  • Split PDF - read-only error

I am trying to split a PDF document on the top level bookmarks that I have created. I created all of the bookmarks using the file name that I want to output. I go to document, split document, select Top-level bookmarks and output options and select use bookmark names for file names and unselect "Do not overwrite existing files" and then click OK.
It creates about 12 of my 80-something bookmarks and then tells me that there is an error and it is read-only and will not split the rest of the document. I have saved-as under different names, in different locations and keep getting the same error message. The document that I am splitting is not read only, it is not protected. I have no idea why it won't continue to split the rest of the document. Any suggestions?

If it happens always at a specific location check if there's something out
of the ordinary with that bookmark. For example, does it contain any weird
characters in its name? Is it identical to another bookmark (or even to the
    name of the document itself)?
I would think the application could handle those situations, but maybe it
    can't...

  • Use Preview to secure a PDF (read only)

    Hello people,
I'm looking for a way to secure PDFs with Preview, to allow read only. Normally if one tries to encrypt the PDF from the drop down save as dialog box, Preview secures the whole PDF.
Similarly Pages can export to PDF but with all necessary options (open document, print, and copy) and that's all that i need. But what if a colleague comes with an already created PDF!?
Unless i buy Adobe Acrobat Pro for this (which is not going to happen) i'm out of luck.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Andrei Dica

I was also wondering about creating 'read only' PDFs in Preview.
The Security Settings mentioned by Lardlad allow you to set passwords to open the document, to copy parts of it or print all of it, but I can't see any option to prevent it being modified (read only).

  • Making a pdf read only once

Is there a way to secure a pdf file so that it can only be read once.
When re-using the security key, the file will not open a second time.
If that is possible how do you do so with Acrobat pro XI
    Thanks.

Even with Adobe's LiveCycle Rights Management, there is not a way to automatically enforce that a user can only open a particular document one time at most. Instead, you set time periods for validity, but  can manually revoke access to a protected document.

  • How do I make a PDF read only in Pro 9 extended

    Hello,
I created a document in Adobe presenter and published a PDF file. I'm using the file in a LearninIg Management System where students can take courses online. I want the student to be able to open the PDF in the browser without the save or print option. I don't want to add any passwords or any other security features. Thankd

    > Could you tell me how to get to the document security section to control printing and saving?
You cannot control saving at all.
To control printing, use File > Properties and look under the Security
tab. Read and note the warning message you get when setting security.
    > I don't want to make it that easy to save
You can't make it any less easy.

  • How can I protect a PDF file to where when I am editing the file and another user opens the file, it is only a read-only file?

I work for an auditing firm and we have recently gone paperless with our audit documentation. We have our files saved on a server and multiple people can access the same file at one time. We noticed that Acrobat does not give an message notifying a user that someone else is in that file, nor does Acrobat make that PDF file a read only file when someone else is in it editing the document. Is there a way to notify someone that another user is in the same PDF file? Or is there a way to make a PDF read only when someone else is working with the document?

    Hi ashleyr1936858
You can restrict editing of a pdf by setting the password, such that anyone who wants to edit the pdf would need to input that password. This would make the pdf a read-only file.

  • Possible to save editable pdf as read only?

I need to make an editable pdf that I can send to a client. The client needs to be able to open it in Adobe Reader, make changes, save it, and then email to customers. Is there any way (in Adobe Reader) that they can make the pdf read-only after they have made their edits, so that their customers can't edit the pdf?

You can do it. They can't.
If this is something they are going to do a lot of, recommend that they purchase at least Acrobat Standard if not Pro.

  • Hi I've a big problem with adobe acrobat reader XI pro and I hope you can help me. The problem is; when I past copied text from some pdf books (not all of them) it past symbols only! wherever I past it! and even if I coped that text from another pdf reade

    Hi
I've a big problem with adobe acrobat reader XI pro and I hope you can help me.
The problem is; when I past copied text from some pdf books (not all of them) it past symbols only! wherever I past it! and even if I coped that text from another pdf reader (adobe pdf reader, internet browsers, ...etc.).
This problem started to happen since yesterday when I installed adobe acrobat reader XI pro to try it before I buy it, and before that when I was using the free adobe pdf reader I was totally able to copy any text from any pdf and past it anywhere with nothing wrong.
    What can I do?
    thank you a lot.

There is no product called Adobe Acrobat Reader Pro. There is
    - Adobe Acrobat Pro ($$)
    - Adobe Reader (free)
Which do you have? And are you a programmer?

  • Read only / save problem when multiple user accessing PDF

When accessing a PDF-file from a network location (where multiple users might have the file open simultaneously) I have noticed a problem.
First of all you will not get notified when opening the file that it is open elsewhere, there is no "read only" mode in this case.
Secondly (and worse) is the fact that the person having opened the file first is prompted to save it under a new name when she/he is saving changes since "file is open elsewhere".
This works quite the opposite of what most Windows applications do.
Is it a problem in version 7 and 8 of Acrobat only?
I have heard from the support previously that it might be unsupported functionality to use network drives for editing. Is that true?
If you are doing updates after a review but want to share the outcomes of the review this quite annoying...

I agree, and I have seen the same points as well, but...
During the update process after the review many reviewers are looking at their comments and how they were handled during the review meeting and at the same time the authors (yes, for documents such as a requirement specification there will be more than one author) are doing the updates to the original document.
We are also updating the PDF with the changes made by adding new replies to the comments and also changing the status of the comments once more.
The logical approach when opening a file is not to display a text box, but to add the information in the title bar of the program. That way you do not add an extra step to the people who only want "read only" access.

  • Save dynamic PDF as flattened or read only

I finished filling a form, which is a dynamic PDF. Now that I'm done filling it out, I want to save it as a regular PDF, where the fields cannot be edited, and anyone can open it without needing a special version of adobe (basically just a regular PDF viewer), since it's easier to email, and anyone can open it without a problem. Can this be done?
I have a MacBook Pro, with Yosemite OS.
    Thanks guys

Do you understand what "flattening" a PDF does?
It converts fields and annotations content into the context of the PDF and removes the form fields and annotations and they cannot be recovered to their original objects.
I would look at making the fields read only and using a digital signature to disclose if the PDF has been changed after the signature has been applied.

  • When I converted a file from PDF to WORD.DOC it opened as Read Only and I'm unable to alter any of the text.  How can I solve this problem?

When I tried to convert a file from PDF to WORD.DOC it opened as Read Only and I'm unable to alter any of the text.  How do I solve this problem?  I don't know how to change it from Read Only.

    Dear Sara
Thank you very much for sending the converted file.  Yes, I am able to edit it - that will be very useful to me and I appreciate your help.
Referring to your previous message when you said you'd converted via Acrobat and not Acrobat.com, I'm converting via Acrobat.com because that's the only option that is shown (how do I convert via Acrobat? - perhaps that would be more successful).  I'm using the Export PDF website, and the OCR is enabled to "Recognize text in English UK".  However, I've just tried converting a different LPA pdf form, this time for Health & Welfare https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/245571/LPA114_He alth_welfare_LPA.pdf and again I have the same problem as before.  I've altered it from "Read only" and thought I'd then be able to enter text, but "Drawing Tools" is shown in the pane and I'm unable to enter anything onto the form - everything appears to be in images.  Also, the lettering on the heading of' page 1 has become jumbled, with the word "Public" overlaying the word "Guardian."  Any suggestions as to what it is I'm doing wrong would be welcome - I don't like to be beaten!
    Regards,
    Judith.
