Pdf reader plugin for IE8

Will adobe ever fix the plugin for viewing pdfs in IE8 web browser.  It's been months now since stopped working correctly.  If I click a link to a pdf, I get an empty dialog box with an ok button and IE hangs and has to be re-started. so I always have to download these doc to my local drive and open them directly in the reader.?
oh and why did they remove the rotation button from the tool bar. yes it is there somewhere but it used to be alot more convienient.

  • Javascript Detection of Adobe reader plugin for Adobe version 9.0

    Hi,
    I'm working on a javascript utility that finds out the version of the adobe reader plugin that is installed in firefox and IE.
    The firefox code works fine but I can't detect Adobe version 9.0 for IE using the following code.
         var LATEST_ADOBE_ACROBAT_VERSION = 9;
         //Look for versions >= 7
          for (var i = 7; i <= LATEST_ADOBE_ACROBAT_VERSION; i++){
             pluginFound = detectActiveXControl('AcroPDF.PDF.' + i);
             if (pluginFound) {
                acrobatVersion = 7;
                Document.write("Adobe Version : " + String(acrobatVersion));
                return acrobatVersion;
    The detectActiveXControl('AcroPDF.PDF.9'); function call results in an object does not exist exception at runtime despite the fact that I have adobe reader 9 installed on my machine. So I assume that the name of the object has been changed for Adobe 9.
    Ihave been googling for most of the afternoon to try and find the correct object but no luck so far. If anybody knows the name of the object for adobe reader 9 and wants to let me know it would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello everyone !
    I have a similar problem... I am currently using both, Safari(5.1) and Firefox(10.0), please don't judge me Runnin on OSX Lion 10.7.2
    I recently installed a plug-in for PDF files on Firefox called Schubert|it PDF Browser Plugin (recommended by mozilla.support.org) since I was unable to open PDF files without downloading them, then open them with Preview.
    I was really satisfied, works great, although i had to make some adjustments to get it started !
    Unfortunately, when I switch back to Safari, the plug kicks in. Now, as I remember, Safari has a "built-in" Adobe Reader plug in and it work just fine.
    My Question is: Is it possible to affetct the Schubert it PDF Browser Plugin for Firefox and keep Adobe for Safari ? Otherwise, I would almost prefere to have AdobeReader for both of them, since i have good experience with it.
    Thank you in advance

  • Foxit Reader Plugin for Mozilla 2.2.3.111 blocked while blocklist.xml tops out at maxVersion="2.2.1.530"

    Attempting to open a .pdf with Firefox 18.0, and having Foxit Reader Plugin for Mozilla 2.2.3.111 installed, I receive the gray lego piece page with text "The plugin is vulnerable and should be updated/Check for updates/Click here to activate the Foxit Reader for Mozilla plugin"
    I look into the blocklist.xml file and find the plugin item:
    <pluginItem blockID="p250">
    <match name="filename" exp="npFoxitReaderPlugin\.dll" /> <versionRange minVersion="0" maxVersion="2.2.1.530" severity="0" vulnerabilitystatus="2"></versionRange>
    </pluginItem>
    Next, I view installed plugins and find: Foxit Reader Plugin for Mozilla 2.2.3.111, and it is not disabled.
    My first question is why, when the installed plugin version is 2.2.3.111, and the blocklist maxVersion is 2.2.1.530, do I receive any kind of plugin blocked page?
    My second question is "is there any method or technique so specifically unblock a particular plugin, without affecting any other plugin?"
    I force-reinitialized the blocklist.xml file and database.
    Currently, I am running extensions.blocklist.enabled false, to sidestep this exact problem, but would definitely prefer to have this set true.
    Thanks.

    Hi cor-el,
    I ''did'' see the bug report, that relates to ''2.2.1.530 AND BELOW''.
    The current installed plugin is 2.2.3.111, which is ABOVE 2.2.1.530, hence the blocklist should not apply, since its setting "maxVersion", apparently the maximum version to which the block list should apply, is 2.2.1.530.
    Thank your for looking into this, though.
    Possibly I do not understand the maxVersion property in the .xml?

  • Reader plugin for Chrome versions 42+ no longer work

    As of 04/15/2015, Google has deprecated the NPAPI which the Adobe Reader plugin apparently uses (see NPAPI deprecation: developer guide - The Chromium Projects)   This means the Adobe Reader plugin for Chrome no longer works.
    Does Adobe have any plans to provide a new plugin or extension for Chrome?
    If not, what is an alternative that can handle .xdp forms?  I've tried PDF Viewer (PDF.js), Notable PDF, and Xodo but none of them handle .xdp files.

    All:  I use the Adobe Reader plugin a lot for work. I have found a workaround to the new Chrome version 42 update that has removed the NPAPI plugins, including Adobe Reader.
    In the Chrome browser URL, type "chrome://flags". Find the flag called "Enable NPAPI Mac, Windows" and click "Enable".
    Then, go back to your plugins in Chrome, "chrome://plugins". Make sure the Adobe Reader plugin is Enabled and the Chrome PDF Viewer is disabled. Everything should work as it did before.

  • Adobe Reader plugin for Firefox 3

    Has anyone else been having problems reading some pdfs using the Adobe Reader plugin for Firefox 3?
    For several months this often (but not always) happens:
    I follow a link to a .pdf, a new window opens with a blue progress bar in the middle.
    It gets to 100%, but then nothing happens, it just sits there with the progress bar full and "Done" in the status bar.
    Interestingly,  I also have the "IE Tab" extension installed and if I click on the icon  to change the browser engine, the page reloads (with a slightly  different progress bar that includes a counter for the file size) and  the document is always displayed correctly when the download is  completed.
    the Adobe Acrobat plug-in is v10.1.0.534.

    http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/
    You'll find previous versions there as well as the latest builds, but I honestly don't see why you'd not like 4.0. After all, this is Firefox we're talking about not IE, which seems to only get worse with each new release.

  • Foxit Reader has just been upgraded to 7.0. What is the latest Foxit Reader Plugin for Mozilla?

    Today 24 Sep 2014 I received notice and Upgraded to Foxit Reader 7.0.
    Under Plugins in Thunderbird it says Unknown. When you click on the Research Button the question is not answered in the list given.
    I am presently using Plugin 2.2.4.903 is there a later one.
    What is the Latest Foxit Reader Plugin for Mozilla?

    You'd need to check with Foxit. Plugins are 3rd party software, and not provided by Mozilla.

  • How can I install Adobe Reader 10.1.0 Plugin for IE8?

    All the forum responses I've seen show going to manage add-ons in IE and to enable the plugin.  I do not have an Adobe Reader 10.1.0 plugin under any add-ons to enable.  I've even unistalled/reinstalled this Adobe Reader version with no success.  Due to other application dependencies I cannot upgrade to Reader 11, though I know the Plugin does appear when I install Reader 11.  How do I get the matching plugin for 10.1.0?  Without it we are having issues with PDFs not opening in the browser.  Thanks.

    Hi, thanks for the help:
    i)Adobe Reader 10.1.0.  OS is Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64bit v1.0.  We utilize IE8 32bit browser.
    ii)Due to other applications we currently cannot upgrade company wide yet, so 10.1 is not yet an option.  I did test locally and 10.1 did solve the issue, but that won't work for us at this time.  I need to find a way to add the plugin for 10.1.0 back to IE for employees.  It used to exist but something changed recently as PDFs stopped launching within IE window.  On all the support sites I see, people reference enabling the Reader 10.1 plugin within IE, so it must exist, I just need to understand how we can re-install it.

  • Adobe Reader plugin for Firefox - Firefox 17/18 w Reader X/XI unable to view PDF

    Our customers are having to use IE, which is not an option at some sites or roll Reader back to 9.4.5 to view our product.  This issue started happening on 1/8/13.
    No issues opening the PDFs
    Originally installed on Win7
    IE 8, FF11, Acrobat 9.4.5 – Windows updates turned off since 12/1/12
    Installed IE 9, no issues
    Installed FF 18.0.1 no issues
    Issues opening the PDFs
    Installed Reader XI, - kept Acrobat 9.4.5 installed - Unable to open catalogs in FF.

    You don't say what it is about your "product" that is different from a regular PDF. I assume from the screenshot you are using LCDRM, but that in and of itself will not stop Reader XI from displaying the content.
    Are your Firefox users actually using the Adobe Reader plugin? The latest build of Firefox has its own PDF renderer (which can't load LCDRM-protected files) - you need to specify that you want Reader to be the preferred plugin by changing the Firefox config.

  • Internet Explorer ONLY passes parameters to Adobe Reader plugin for hosted files, not local

    WORKS:
    <embed src="http://host.com/test.pdf#page=5"/>
    FAILS:
    <embed src="test.pdf#page=5"/>
    Both code snippets above work when the HTML file is hosted (IIS / Apache).  My web-app needs to be able to run from a USB memory stick and work with IE9.  The #page param is required for a core feature of the app.
    Parameters after the # are passed correctly to the Adobe Reader plugin in Firefox for offline files, eg: file:///C:/test.htm.  The documentation only describes hosted examples: http://www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/pdf_open_parameters.pdf
    I have tried the <object> route as well with similar results, eg: http://pdfobject.com/
    I have burned over 8 hours looking for a solution. I have tried any logical settings in Adobe Reader X, and with the security zones in IE.  I am not very familiar with IE security zones, but I suspect it could be related to my issue.  I can specify the end-user change any browser or plugin settings as an acceptable solution.

    I am developing a hybrid web-application that needs to work both offline (entire website) and in a hosted environment.  A key part of the product is displaying PDF's with a dynamic index outside of the PDF. This allows us to use PDF's collected from hundreds of contractors, clients and manufacturers and combine them into one searchable product with a consistent interface.  I can specify product requirements including IE browser settings, installed plug-ins etc. I am not trying to cater to a wide audience such as everyone online, but a specific one that is spending $5k-30k for a custom resource.
    I expect the limiation is due to a wide cast net regarding security.  I tried every setting in IE and essentially fully disabling all security options did not resolve it.
    I found a solution, by accessing the ActiveX object directly you can use the exposed classes described here: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/w whelp.htm?context=Acrobat9_HTMLHelp&file=IAC_API_OLE_Objects.103.167.html
    Javascript:
    var pdfO = document.getElementById('pdfObj');
    pdfO.setCurrentPage(pageNumber);
    HTML:
    <OBJECT id ="pdfObj" data="test.pdf" TYPE="application/pdf">
        <a href="test.pdf">Fall-back code</a>
    </OBJECT>
    This actually works much faster as well, since the plugin doesn't need to be re-drawn in the DOM

  • Bug in Acrobat Reader Plugin for FF?

    Hi,
    i use a web application which pulls pdf reports from a server by http-post requests, so parameters are transmitted in the requests-body.
    As a viewer i do use Acrobat Reader Plugin, most recent release with FF 3.0.3 on Windows XP pro.
    So due of the http-post requests the requested url remains always the same for every report.
    The problem:
    In case of two reports having the same content-length, the former requested report is displayed as the result of the last request, though the content is different.
    The effect could be reproduced.
    Obviously the plugin cant distinguish the reports. With Acrobat Reader as the Viewer and with IE and Adobe AddOn all reports are displayed correct.
    Beside the http-post implmentation may not be the best way to do this, is this a bug or mishandling by the user.
    Regards
    Chris

  • PDF Viewer plugin for Firefox 4 on Mac

    Firefox 4 on Mac would not come with a plugin for pdf viewing, you need to install the file below (just copy and paste in your browser and allow to install):
    http://firefox-mac-pdf.s3.amazonaws.com/fx-quartz-pdf-1.2.0.xpi
    (you need to run Firefox in 32 bit mode ! go to applications, select Firefox and open "get info", check box for 32 bit mode)

    https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/142056?hl=en
    https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/142064?hl=en
    Those links have more info on Chrom plugins and how to enable or disable them.
    From the first link:
    By default, Chrome uses a built in viewer to open PDFs. If you've disabled the built-in PDF viewer, Chrome will use Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader to display PDFs. Follow the suggestions at the first link if you're having trouble viewing PDFs within Chrome, using Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader.
    First check if the issue is specific to Chrome. Try opening PDFs in another browser on your computer, such as Firefox. If you experience similar problems viewing PDFs in another browser, the issue is likely not related to Chrome.

  • Missing Reader Plugin for Chrome

    I downloaded Acrobat Reader XI for use on a MacbookPro running OSX 10.8.4, with the intention of using it as my default pdf viewer for Chrome, my web browser of choice. However, after installation there is no Reader plugin in Chrome. I assume it would have installed automatically. And I cannot find a place to download the plugin directly.  Did I miss something?

    There is no support for Chrome yet, see the system requirements for Adobe Reader XI: http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/tech-specs.html#xi

  • Built-in pdf reader plugin does not work in 5.1.7

    The WEBdav built-in PDF reader in 5.1.7 shows a black page, and looking at the list of plugins, it has no file to go to:
    WebKit built-in PDF
    — from file “”.
    How do I fix this?

    Back up all data.
    Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
    If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
    If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

    I was wondering if there is any way to organize, or set up the iPhoto Library so that the albums appear as their own folder
    No there isn't.
    Albums, slideshows etc are virtual entities, they don't exist in the finder. In reality, they are instructions for iPhoto to display photos together.
    Further: It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss
    but it is a laborious process because I have to actually open iPhoto...
    but iPhoto is your Organiser, that's what it's for. For the record There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
    However, Rolls in the iPhoto Window correspond exactly with the Roll Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library Folder.
    You can move photos between Rolls, you can rename rolls, edit them, create them, as long as you do it via the iPhoto Window.
    Check out the Info Pane (wee 'i', lower left) the name and date fields are editable. Edit a Roll Name using the Info Pane, the Roll Folder in iPhoto Library Folder/Originals will also have the new name.
    But again the key is to interact with your photos via the iPhoto Window.

  • Adobe Reader Plugins for Safari 5 on Snow Leopard

    Our software uses Adobe Reader to open, edit, and save Pdf Forms.  Most of our customer base is on Windows but we now have some MAC users as well.  Everything works fine except using Safari 5 on Snow Leopard.  It appears as if the plug ins are not loading properly or at all when Reader 9 is installed.  When a user goes to open a PDF Form, nothing happens.
    My personal Macbook which I have at the office, is Leopard with Safari 5 and when I download Reader 9, I can see the plugins in Safari and everthing works fine.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    On Snow Leopard 10.6, you need to run Safari in 32 bit mode to get the Adobe Reader Plugin to load and launch properly.
    To do this,
    1) exit Safari.
    2) in the Finder go to your Applications folder, select Safari and do File->Get Info
    3) Check 'Open in 32-bit mode' in the General pane of that dialog
    4) Relaunch Safari
    5) Under the Safari Help->Installed Plug-ins you should now see the Adobe Reader plugin support.
    I am able to get Safari to open forms inline in Reader this way.  I am not able to get the Adobe Forms with Adobe Javascript running in this mode.  Any insight on how this might be done would be helpful.  It does work in the Standalone Reader, but so far no luck enabling it in the Safari plugin.
