PDF Reading IE Add-In Install Only

Hello,
My firm is a little dated with our Adobe Acrobat software as we use Adobe Acrobat Pro 9. With the release of IE 11, there seems to be an issue with the compatibility between it and the Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro PDF add-in for Internet Explorer.
I believe there's a way to install Adobe Reader and then enable just the Add-In, I understand that. My question is whether or not there's a way to use an up-to-date version of the Adobe Reader XI Internet Explorer Add-In by itself without installing Adobe Reader. I would like to avoid the confusion that my users will inevitably run into if I were to install both programs.
Thanks for any input you may have. I will await with bated breath.

I don't think it is possible, or permitted, to selectively install only parts of Reader. And indeed, it simply wouldn't work. The IE add-ins are not PDF viewers. They are simply little things that run Adobe Reader to do the work of displaying, and then the IE add in makes sure the results end up in the IE window.

  • What is the best way to find what version of PDF Reader from Adobe is installed on a windows OS?

    Hi,
I am developing a .Net App in which i want to find which version of PDF Reader from Adobe is installed on an Windows OS.
It can be any of the software
    Adobe Reader
    Adobe Acrobat X Pro
    or any other.
    How to find out?

The best way would be to find and query the AcroRd32.exe executable. The file version information is stored in the executable itself.
There are lots of places in the registry that you could also potentially access relevant information.
    For example the uninstall string:
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
Contains a string that you could use to search for the application version.
How you would do this in .NET I'm not sure but you would use some kind of text search command to search for the relevant text and then use "if exists" condition.

  • Reader 6 wants to install every time

I had a failed install of Reader 9. After the failed install, everytime I try to open a pdf Reader version 6 wants to install. I installed Reader 6 however, everytime I tried to open a pdf Reader 6 wanted to install. So I uninstalled Reader 6 and reinstalled Reader 9. But I cannot open a pdf without Reader 6 wanting to install. Please....someone help me. I am using WinXP SP3. Thanks, in advance.

You're actually in the Acrobat forum instead of the Reader forum.
At any rate, try downloading and running the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility and get rid of all instances of Reader then reinstall the one you want to use.
    Good luck.

  • Adobe Pdf Reader (Comments and Sticky Notes)

    Hi,
I have used Adobe Reader XI to review a document using comments/annotations.
After saving the file to pdf and following different edits a number of comments disappeared, leaving the file as follows:
    23rd April 2015 - Comments Present
    27th April 2015 - All Comments Lost
    28th April 2015 - All Comments Lost.
    29th April 2015 - Comments Present
    30th April 2015 - Comments Present
Is there a way that the lost comments could be recovered?
Many Thanks for any possible solution (if any).

  • PDF Reader add on not visible in IE

Installed  X1 Pro on windows 7 32 bit OS running IE 9 and do not have the Adobe PDF Reader add on listed, (showing all add on) in IE. PDF links will only open in IE which I do not want. Have tried un-installing, deleting Adobe folder out of programs files and reinstalling, same results. Have installed on other PC's with same setup with no issues. Any ideas on how to disable the reader add on when it does not show up as a manged add-on option in IE? Thanks in advance.
SOLVED: Select "Run without permission" option and it will show the PDF Reader option to disable.

Adobe Reader only comes in an x32 bit version...
It won't run on web pages that are using the x64 IE tab process. You uses must be using the x64 version of IE9.

  • Hi I've a big problem with adobe acrobat reader XI pro and I hope you can help me. The problem is; when I past copied text from some pdf books (not all of them) it past symbols only! wherever I past it! and even if I coped that text from another pdf reade

    Hi
I've a big problem with adobe acrobat reader XI pro and I hope you can help me.
The problem is; when I past copied text from some pdf books (not all of them) it past symbols only! wherever I past it! and even if I coped that text from another pdf reader (adobe pdf reader, internet browsers, ...etc.).
This problem started to happen since yesterday when I installed adobe acrobat reader XI pro to try it before I buy it, and before that when I was using the free adobe pdf reader I was totally able to copy any text from any pdf and past it anywhere with nothing wrong.
    What can I do?
    thank you a lot.

There is no product called Adobe Acrobat Reader Pro. There is
    - Adobe Acrobat Pro ($$)
    - Adobe Reader (free)
Which do you have? And are you a programmer?

  • Adobe Reader "Adobe PDF Reader" Addon not installing when Using MSI Installer.

I'm trying to do a silent install of Adobe Reader - and I notice that when I use the EXE installer, with no manual configuration, I have the "Adobe PDF Reader" Addon in Internet Explorer (IE11).
When Installing the MSI - With or without a transform, I do not get the addon. I get a "PDF Link Helper" but no PDF Reader addon. Has anyone experienced this?

    Hi geoffubazi,
The 'Adobe PDF Reader' Addon should install even if you run the .msi file.
Check under the Add on option- 'Run without permission' as shown in the screen shot below and it will list the 'Adobe PDF Reader' Add on

  • Adobe PDF Reader Publisher 'not available' in IE Manage Add-ons

Some users of a website that displays PDFs in the browser are not able to view the PDFs.  These users are using IE9 and Adobe Reader XI on a Windows 7 machine. They have gone through uninstalling, reinstalling, and repairing Adobe Reader XI and have ensured that the IE settings match the IE settings for other users whose setups work correctly.  The only difference is in the Manage Add-Ons.  On machines that do work, the publisher for the Adobe PDF Reader add-on is listed as 'Adobe Systems, Incorporated'.  On the machines that do not work, the publisher is shown as 'not available'.   My gut feeling is that since the publisher is listed as 'not available', Microsoft doesn't trust the add-on and won't run the ActiveX control to display the PDFs in the browser.
How can I fix those systems so that the add-on shows as 'Adobe Systems, Incorporated' on the machines that do not work?  Or how can I get them to work regardless of the publisher listed?  Or is this even the issue of why these machines will not display PDFs in the browser?

They do assure me that they are using the 32-bit version of IE.  I think the add-on doesn't show at all in the 64-bit version.

  • Adobe PDF Reader Add-on - IE11

    Hello,
I work in a government organization and we are about the deploy IE11 to all of our machines. We've encountered an issue with how IE11 opens PDF. We want the PDF to open in IE11, and not open a separate Adobe Reader application. The fix we found so far was to disable the Adobe PDF Reader add-on, then re-enable. I also want to mention that we are pushing a group policy that does tweak a few settings. Here's what we are doing,
    Pop-up allow list (several websites)
Prevent participation in the Customer Experience Improvement Program (enabled)
    Turn off pop-up management (disabled)
    Compatibility view
Use Policy List of Internet Explorer 7 sites - Enabled
Site to Zone Assignment List - Enabled
Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls - Enabled
Automatic prompting for file downloads - Enabled
    Logon option - Enabled
Access data sources across domains - Enabled
Would any of these cause an issue with the Adobe PDF reader add-on? (We are using Adobe Reader 11.0.09
    Thanks

I am starting to believe this issue may be a registry entry in HKCU as I can get the add-on to work for longer periods of time if I remove the user's profile from the local PC and then have them log in to build a new profile...  the problem is that the add-on doesn't always continue to work, it just appears to work for a longer period of time before having to disable and enable the add-on again.
As far as my install package goes, I created a transform file using the Adobe Customization Wizard with the following options:
    Personalization Options:
         Suppress display of EULA
    Installation Options:
Make Reader the default PDF viewer
         Remove all versions
         Enable Optimization
Enable Caching of installer files on local hard drive
         Run silently
         Prompt for reboot
    Files and Folders:
         Left default values
    Registry:
         Left default values
    Shortcuts:
         Removed the Desktop shortcut
    Server Locations:
         Left default values
    Security:
         Protected View Off
Enhanced Security Disabled for both Standalone and Browser
Added our SAN, intranet and domain name to the privileged locations
Prevented users from adding trusted files/folders and trusted hosts
    Digital Signature:
         Left default values
    Webmail Profiles
Prevent end users from configuring Webmail profile
    Online Services and Features
         Disable Product Updates
Load trusted root certs from Adobe - Enable & Install silently
Disable Help > Purchase Adobe Acrobat
         Disable Help > Digital Editions
         Disable Product Improvement Program
Disable all Adobe online services based workflows and entry points
    File Attachments:
         Left default values
    Launch Other Applications:
         Left default values
I then created a VB Script to run the msiexec and reference the .msi and .mst files.  I created the SCCM package and program and reference the VB Script.  The installation works and the modified settings are there, so I know the .mst file is being referenced as well.  I'm still working on finding a resolution and hopefully one of us comes up with something solid soon.

  • Adobe PDF Reader not appearing under IE8 Manage Add-ons

I have Adobe Reader XI Installed.
    Using Windows 2008 Server R2.
I tried looking under the 'All Add-ons' and 'Run without permission' drop down menu and still couldn't find Adobe PDF Reader.

They do assure me that they are using the 32-bit version of IE.  I think the add-on doesn't show at all in the 64-bit version.

  • Having to disable Adobe PDF Reader add-ons then enabling it.

After updating through 11.0.02 -> 11.0.03 -> 11.0.07 (Not currently on 11.0.10), and before I go any further, we also are using IE11 w/Enterprise Mode and the latest version of Chrome. Also, users have Acrobat Pro XI 11.0.09. PDF's are set to open in Adobe Reader. Well, after updating Adobe Reader with the versions mentioned above, a user will open IE or Chrome and click on a link that should open a .PDF in another window or give the option to download it. When this happens, sometimes all the content can't be interacted with or it just doesn't open. The ONLY way I know of to fix this is to go in to IE, manage add-ons or Chrome://plugins, disable the Adobe PDF Reader add-on, close the browser, open the browser and enable the Adobe PDF Reader add-on, restart the browser again. At that time, will the PDF's open properly.
Is there something that can be done to prevent this from happening? One of the reasons I don't like to push out Adobe Reader updates in our district during the school year is because of this reason.
    Thanks

I have removed the "Assumed Answered" status.
But unfortunately I don't know what the cause of your problem could be.

I am VERY busy and do not have time to sit and wait over a half an hour to "chat", which I tried to do yesterday.  All I want to do is very simply, convert pdfs to Word.  I have paid for this and am not getting any help. I am not very savvy when it comes to Adobe this program and Adobe that program...I feel I am being scammed as I do not get simple answers for something that appeared was going to be simple. You can't even call customer service to talk to someone live to help walk you through.

    Hello Kathie,
Sorry for the inconvenience that has caused to you.
Please let me know if you have tried converting any other PDF to word with Reader.
Alos, please sign up at "https://cloud.acrobat.com/" using your Adobe ID credentials. Click on 'ExportPDF' tab and upload the PDF that you want to convert to Word.
Let me know if this converts fine.
    Hope to hear from you.
