PDF Resolution and Page Dimensions, as for CreateSpace

I use a Mac (OX 10.4.11), Adobe Acrobat Professional 7, and PhotoShop Elements 4. I am trying to prepare a 140-page book and upload it as a PDF to CreateSpace.
I exported the book from Keynote to a series of TIF files, which were by defaultt to 72 ppi. Then I used Adobe PhotoShop Elements to convert them to 300ppi. If I export one page from PhotoShop to PDF, then the page size is preserved and the 300ppi resolution is preserved too. But the book has more than one page and I really do need a way to have a multi-page PDF that preserves the page size and the resolution.
Everything I have tried that manages multiple pages in a PDF has resulted in 72ppi. Sometimes the files are fuzzy, and sometimes they become 30x40 inches or something outlandishly big because the unauthorized decrease in resolution to 72ppi was not accompanied by downsizing. The giant pictures do preserve the pixel dimensions, but I was hoping to retain the resolution too.
A customer service representative from Adobe told me to use the Distiller. It works only on PostScript files, which is why I had not got it to work at all previously (directions do not so specify, and the Help function for the Distiller is very rudimentary). When I do use Distiller, I again get a series of too-big image with 72ppi for each of the several pages.
(Distiller also is dysfunctional in that when I ask to specify the output folder, it asks again and again even when I specify a valid folder and I finally have to make it quit.)
What I need is a simple algorithm to convert a series of TIF files to one PDF file that will be recognized by CreateSpace as 300dpi and will have the image-size that I originally specify. The Adobe representative told me that Distiller would work without significant details on settings and that information seems to be just plain wrong.
This is a very common problem; many CreateSpace clients are interested.

Ah, sorry; in that case possibly the Preserve Photoshop Editing Capabilities-button was hit (thus including the original psd-file) but a low-res-pdf-setting selected.
In which case the original data would appear to be CMYK and of a higher resolution that the pdf-images.

  • Merge TIFF file Resolution and page size differs. Clue ?!

    Hi All,
I'm able to merge multiple TIFF files into one. But the resultant multi page TIFF file has different resolution and page size than from the source files. The width and height will get exchanged, also those texts are appear stretched.
Noteably, it happens particularly with FAX pages of TIFF files, not with any others (like printed page TIFF files).
can you help me ? Please write here your points.
    Thanks a lot,

I see I attached the link to the wrong discussion. It should have been this one. Scroll down to the workaround posted by Tomas, from August 26th.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1078666&start=0&tstart=0
Anyway, yes, that's sort of what I mean. On my iWeb 06 website, I've scaled all my pictures down to 800px x 600px with a resolution of 72dpi for online viewing. The original photos, say 3000px x 2000px at 300dpi, are simply saved on my harddrive and not used in iWeb. The thought behind that was for faster loading times for people visiting my website. I'm pretty sure when I saved these reduced copies in Photoshop, the default color profile was sRGB. However, when I look at my site on my office (Windows) PC, the pictures appear dark, especially Black & White ones. But the color profile is a separate issue covered in Tomas' workaround.
Now, maybe I'm operating on a false assumption, but I thought with this new download feature in iWeb and .Mac Web Gallery you would want to use your photos in full resolution so that when a visitor sees a picture they like, they can download the picture from your site AND could even print it if they so chose. Again, I'm assuming you would use your full resolution photos when you build your site and iWeb would do its own scaling for viewing on the web, but the full resolution photos would be somehow held in reserve for the moment when someone selects 'download'. I'm just concerned that using an unscaled, full resolution photos, would slow down the page building speed so much, that visitors would be too border to bother waiting for the pages to load. Thanks.

I need some help resizing my images on PS6. I am using a mac and have been trying to resize with same resolution and constaining proportions but for some reaseon the smaller resized image appears pizelated. Heres an image of before and after. The first image I use is a JPG 72dpi 1500px x1500px and I want to downsize it to 600x600px same res, but it keeps pixelating, this has never happened before. Any suggestions, thoughts?
    thanks!

I wouldn't say pixelated; more like blurry.
Like ConnectedCreative said, what steps are you using? Are you using "bicubic sharper" when resizing down?

  • What should the resolution and design size be for an 8' Wide by 2' Tall sign graphic?

I am creating a graphic for an acrylic sign, and the dimensions are 8' wide by 2' tall. What size should my design be to work within Photoshop CS6? Pixels or inches? Resolution? I don't want to lose resolution between design and actual print. Please help. Thank you.

If you intend to have it printed by a commercial shop, I would ask them what they would recommend.

  • What are the parameters "page-forward" and "page-backward"  used for?

In the LIMITS section of the Netscape Calendar Server configuration
documentation, there are two parameters called "page-forward" and
"page-backward." The default setting for these parameters is FALSE. However,
it is unclear what these parameters are used for.
    <P>
With previous versions of Calendar Server, you could scroll one page forward
or one page backward through the user search screens. However, with the
implementation of LDAP in later versions, the options have been disabled in
    the client.
    <P>
Although the page-forward and page-backward parameters are documented in the
Administrator guides for Calendar Server versions 3.5 and 4.0, the guides
state that the default value of FALSE for both parameters cannot be
changed. In actuality, the parameters can be changed. However, the reason
that users should not change these parameters is that versions 3.5 and 4.0
do not support the page-forward and page-backward capabilities. So to avoid
errors, please do not change these parameters from the default value of FALSE.

if AdobeRGB is the more professional working space, then why not use that profile?
on the web (and in unmanaged and broken work flows) sRGB is the safest profile (source space)
just open your tagged Adobe RGB and tagged ProPhoto RGB document (use the embedded profile in each document)
and go to View> Proof Setup: Monitor RGB (notice the loss in saturation? that's how most of the people on the Internet will be viewing your color, assuming you have a standard-gamut monitor like most people)
always CONVERT to sRGB for the World Wide Web
    i didn't read your link
anyone who recommends "disable color management in Photoshop" -- set Working RGB to "Monitor RGB" -- AND MOST UNBELIEVABLY -- "Don't color manage this document" (ignore embedded profiles) ------ is pretty mixed up (in my opinion)
i will recommend reading JEFF SCHEWE and BRUCE FRASER for professional color management information

  • Photoshop PDF resolution and color space difference: Acrobat vs. Photoshop?

I have received several Photoshop PDFs from different sources. In Acrobat, the document properties indicate the PDF producer as Adobe Photoshop for macintosh -- Image Conversion Plug-in. When checking the image either with PitStop or through Photoshop via Acrobat's Touch up object tool, the image shows as a 100 dpi RGB image. If the PDF is opened directly in Photoshop, Photoshop indicates it is 300 dpi and CMYK.
Does anyone know why there is this difference? Also what is the Image Conversion Plug-in and how does it work?

Ah, sorry; in that case possibly the Preserve Photoshop Editing Capabilities-button was hit (thus including the original psd-file) but a low-res-pdf-setting selected.

  • Question about "Get Web Drawing URL and Page Name From" for Visio Web Access

I am trying to get both the web drawing URL and the page name from a list through Share Point Designer 2013, but it doesn´t work.
It looks fine when a do the web part connection wizard. I select from which columns to get the URL and the page name. But on the final web part page nothing happens. It just shows the URL that is selected in the Visio Web Access Web part. I had hoped that
that value should be overrided by the SPD-settings.
    I have googled for hours..

    Hello,
I have now saved the Visio-file in .vdw-format, but it says Visio 2010 Web Drawing (*.vdw). Is there a .vdw-format for 2013? Isn´t that the .vsdx-format?
Still doesn´t work with the .vdw-format, but maybe I am doing something wrong.
    Any ideas?

  • Supported pdf versions and mouse over problem for Xcelsius 2008 SP3

    Hi,
Have below queries regarding Xcelsuis 2008 SP3.
    (1) Encountered last character truncation problem for the x-axis and y-axis labels when viewed using adobe reader versions higher than 9.0.0. Viewing the pdf doc using adobe reader v9.0.0 has no label truncation problem.  Preview in Xcesius is also ok.
    (a) Y-axis label - eg. No. of students. The last char [s] is truncated when exported to pdf.
    (b) X-axis label u2013 when labels are oriented vertically, they are very close to the x-axis. The last char is truncated.
Please advise what is the supported pdf versions for Xcelsius 2008?
Any workaround to overcome the truncation problem?
    (2) Mouseover in charts. When the series name has < symbol, Xcelsius truncates the remaining text that's after the < symbol.
Is this a limitation that < symbol cannot be used? Any workarond for this? Any document to reference on the limitations of Xcelsius? e.g. If series name is '>1 and <=2', mouse over desc becomes '>1 and '.
    Thanks and Regards.

Hi ,,There are a lot of developments in SP3 version. But some loopholes which I caughtu2026
    1. The value button/spinner is no longer supporting a cell having some formula. Also the time it is taking to load data which depends on value button/spinner as a result of change in it, is comparably very high as compared to earlier version.
    2. Still there is no component like pre-load animation. So it is difficult to know weather the tool is running or not when one selects an option in some selector.
    3. One still finds it difficult to work with a large range of data/complex spread sheet in xcelsius as it crashes while exporting.
    4. Export to excel still needs Tomcat Web server,Java help. It is not simplified.

  • Compressing pdf's and keep image quality for email send outs

    Hello
I have a 55MB Pdf file which I would like to compress to be compatible with email send outs. I work a lot with imagery and need my visuals to be crisp and sharp. Anyone clued up on what settings to use to keep the best possible image quality? Would appreciate some support on this. I work with Mountain Lion and Apple's own compression filter in Preview is really poor. I have tried to download compression filters but nothing seams to work with the system I am running….
    Thanks, Anna

  • Convert doc to PDF and make it available for workspace

    Hi,
is there a way, how to convert a doc file to PDF file and make it available for the workspace (accept - deny scenario)?
Lets say, that I have a contract that has to be approved by my manager. I convert the doc to PDF file and send it to his to-do queue. He than decides if it is a good agreement or bad one.
I see couple of tricks in this. First, the converted file needs to have process fields included, so it has to be a form.
Converted file is a flat PDF. I tried to use DDX to merge flat PDF and form with process fields, however that throwed and error.
Workaround could be creating an envelope saying, hey, look in the attachments section, there is something you need to review.
I can create an attachment in the form with DDX code, however only in the DDX UI interface, for some reason, it wont work in the process in LC.
Also, I have difficulties with routes after user hits the accept, deny buttons in workspace, nothing happens :-(
Could you please give me some advices, what kind of variables I need, what types they should be and how the process should looklike? I want to invoke it over the WSDL so at least one document has to be passed over it. The envelope can be in the resources section in LC (makes sense, but I do not know how to address it in the DDX and afterwards)
    Thanks in advance,
    H.

    Hi Jasmin,
I can add the converted document to PDF as a attachment to the XDP form in the workspace.
I am strugling now with that envelope (the XDP), cant render it to PDF and than workspace enable it. I will have a look around the web because it will be there. One question is can I control permitions on the attachment? I want just read only permitions.
Thanks Jasmin for your continuous help.

  • Best screen resolution and output for CBT

What would be the best screen resolution and output mode IYO for a CBT (Computer Based Training) program?  We would like to do either CD or online.  We are toying with either, so which do you think would be a better option for what Captivate is capable of?  Thanks!

    Nclarkats,
While most of our employees have similar screen resolutions, a few have larger (or smaller) set ups and since we wish to avoid horizontal and vertical scroll bars; we publish with Captivate's 800 x 600 setting.  This allows us to get a bit larger imagery in place.
Whatever you choose, try and pick something and stay consistent.  This is beneficial in the event you have to transfer slides between modules.
    Hope that helps.

  • Best Quicktime resolution and codec for downloading a 1hr, 15 minute video

    Hello All;
I have to create a video that can be downloaded and played via. the web. Looking at most downloadable content, I see Quicktime is used most often.
My original fcp project is 1920 X 1080, 1 hr, and 15 minutes long.
Would would you say is the best resolution and codec to use for the highest quality at the lowest total file size ? What do you use that offers you the results you like ?
I've heard that MPEG 4 is used for web delivery and I've tried this at 720 X 480 but some of the images in the video like a american flag show a strange shimmering effect. I'm not sure what causes that as most of the video looks fine, only a few objects in the scene at various times.
I have also heard H.264 is good for web delivery and am trying that now but it will take 15 more hours to finish the export. Not sure if I'll see the strange shimmering effect as I did with MPEG 4. Hope not but if I do, is there anything I can do to eliminate this ?
    Thank you very much.
    Tim

An hour and 15 minute video is going to be huge. The smallest file size that's going to be adequate quality is probably in 800MB or better range. That's a big download for most punters.
