Pdf's history?
Hi all, I can design my own basic webpages with slideshows etc.
Is Indesign old hat nowadays? The flexibility of CSS3 is now more adaptable and universal to all devices; e.g. Indesign I am currently working on an interactive pdf, with object states creating a navigated slideshow. When I export this as a swf it only works interactively, then obviously it is only accessible on a number of outdated devices (we all know Flash is on its way out!).
What is the best way for me to work on this document. I create a few of these documents and send them out to different clients so I'm not sure if storing them on my web server is a good idea and emailing the client a link so they can view the interactive elements etc.
What do you guys recommend?
Your title is "PDF's History?"
And then you want to know if creating an interactive PDF and making it a SWF is the way to go???
SWF and PDF are two different formats.
SWF is probably on the way out as it's Flash based, and doesn't work on all tablets, namely Apple devices... but Adobe has stopped support for Mobile Flash a while ago.
SWF is probably better suited for onscreen presenations (or whatever else people use Flash for??? Maybe making online games or other things - I don't really know I'm not a Flash guy).
But PDF and SWF are two different things.
Interactive PDFs are perfectly fine, but are limited to a certain extent as Adobe Reader is the best mode to access the file - but again not all devices have Adobe Reader pre-installed.
3rd Party PDF viewers, like Foxit Reader, Chrome Reader, Mac Preview and other 3rd party PDF readers do not support all the Adobe modules.
These are generally not recommended for viewing interactive PDF.
You should put a link to download Adobe Reader alongside the PDF to download so the user can use the best for viewing your interactive PDFs.
As for HTML 5 and CSS3 - well if you can build it in that then there's no need to go near InDesign or creating Interactive PDFs.
You can just create your HTML5 and CSS3 compliant documents and upload them to a server to be viewed there.
But - it's whatever suits.
Then again - not all browsers support everything in HTML5 or CS3 either
And that can change over time.
It really comes down to whether Interactive PDFs or HTML5/CSS3 is best for you and your users.
Forget about SWF.

PDF Version History Chart Listing Features Of Each Revision?
Hello,
Would anyone be aware of a chart style format for the history of the Portable Document Format which would list each PDF version along a timeline from its inception to the current version, with the newly added features of each revision outlined accordingly?
Thanks in advance for any assistance with this inquiry.

Nextel ID # 16Thanks once again Leonard, I was able to cull each of the 'new feature' sections from the PDF Reference books, versions 1.3-1.7, and was able to do the same with 1.2, after locating that book here:
http://www.pdf-tools.com/asp/pdf-specifications.asp
The 'Adobe PDF Technology Center' 'PDF Reference' page doesn't maintain books for versions earlier than 1.3.
Finally, should I be looking for a reference book which outlines features for versions earlier than 1.1 (the 1.2 guide listed both 1.1 and 1.2), and if so, would you be aware as to where I might find these materials?
Thanks so much for your guidance!

Hey! While learning various linux tools in the past, I made several cheat sheets to speed up the learning process. Recently I decided to put them on my blog.
Here is a link to all the cheat sheets on my blog:
cheat sheets at catonmat (my blog)
They include (some of the links include tutorials, as well):
* awk (awk, nawk and gawk) programming language cheat sheet,
* sed, unix stream editor, cheat sheet,
* ed, interactive unix text editor, cheat sheet,
* perl's special variable cheat sheet,
* perl's pack/unpack and printf/sprintf function cheat sheet,
* screen vt100 terminal emulator cheat sheet,
* bash vi editing mode (readline) cheat sheet, and
* bash emacs editing mode cheat sheet.
Tell me what you think and I hope you find them useful!
ps. I have 5-10 more to publish, if you are interested, check back and possibly subscribe to my posts via rss feed
Last edited by pkrumins (2008-02-19 15:41:00)Hi all! I just wrote a another article with a cheat sheet. It's called "The Definitive Guide to Bash Command Line History". This tutorial teaches you how to quickly retrieve and modify commands you executed previously.
It starts by reviewing the keyboard shortcuts for history retrieval in emacs and vi editing modes, then it covers the commands for listing and erasing the history, then it goes into discussing history expansion mechanism - event designators, word designators and their modifiers. Finally the guide lists variables and options to modify the default history behavior.
The cheat sheet comes in PDF, Plain Text ASCII and LaTeX:
* PDF format (.pdf): bash history cheat sheet (.pdf)
* ASCII .txt format: bash history cheat sheet (.txt)
* LaTeX format (.tex): bash history cheat sheet (latex .tex)

The problem on ly exist with the BANK STATEMENT (first time opened OK then ...blank. Should I blame the bank? It opens with EXPLORER. Until yesterday evrything was ok.
Waiting for your help
Thanks for your time
gerardHi Gerard, have you switched from using the built-in PDF viewer to the Adobe Acrobat viewer? This article has the steps for that if you haven't tried it, and also shows where you can confirm which ones is being used: [[How to disable the built-in PDF viewer and use another viewer]].
When saving a PDF using the ''built-in viewer'', use the Download button on the toolbar above the PDF (looks like a downward pointing arrow). This may be more reliable than the Save Page As command.
When saving a PDF using the ''Adobe Acrobat viewer'', as you move the mouse pointer down the document, a floating toolbar should appear with a disk icon. (Or if you press the Esc key, a toolbar should appear above the document.) Use the disk icon on the Adobe Acrobat toolbar to save the document. -
Hide URL in PDF output in hyperlink , Maintain History within reports
hi
i have some issues to discuss for report output in pdf format.
we are using java application to call reports via AS 10g, my issue are
1) Hide URL in PDF output for hyperlink created.(Using username/password in Key is not enough)
2) Maintain history as i call second report from my parent report then i want to go back to parent report.(Note here go.history or history.go(-1) work in HTML output format but not in PDF)
3)To Call Child PDF report in new window(here again working fine target="_blank" for HTML output but not for PDF)
regards
abidHi Ram,
Not sure if this is possible.
However, one workaround might be the following:
1. Write a javascript that submits the URL using, say a POST method, and does not show the parameters in the URL. You will have to write this javascript code in the "Before Report" Report Escape. For a generic example on how to use javascript in a report, see Metalink Note 125652.1. This note shows javascript to disable the right-click of the mouse on the report output.
2. Use the Hyperlink peroperty of the report to call this javascript function, eg,
javascript:myfunction('http://machine:port/reports/rwservlet?report=...+server=...+empno=&empno')
I am not a javascript expert, so I cannot give you an example of the function, but I hope someone in your team can find out.

I just this week started to use Firefox 4.0 Beta 12. Our golf organization has a website that has tournament entry forms in the PDF format. You click on a button and get the form ready to print.
When I click on the button, I don't get the form and the following message shows up-"Javascript history.go(0)Hi Idreier,
I'd try starting Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If you don't have the issue while all of your add-ons, extensions, and themes are disabled, you can try adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit.
Hopefully this helps! -
Opening PDF in client incorrectly adds to browser history
When I click on PDFs, they open in an Adobe window. However, I have to click the back button as many times as I have opened PDF’s. Is there a way to open the PDFs in the client
but not have the containing folder written to the back history?Hi,
don't use a hyperlink element to link to your PDF documents. Clicking a hyperlink adds an entry to the travel log. If you choose the "Save target as" context menu for a resource link, no travel log entry is created.
eg. <a href="path/pdfdocument.pdf">pdfdocument</a>
use a button element instead.
<button type="button" onclick="download.aspx?pdfdocument.pdf">Download pdfdocument</button>
(note: !important specify type="button" otherwise the button element defaults to type="submit" which triggers form.submit which may raise a navigation and travel log events).
PDF documents are opened by ActiveX addons in MSIE browsers.. (Adobe PDF Reader)
Outcomes for embedded pdf documents vary depending on your security zone settings, addons settings or PDF Reader settings and version).. For consistent behavior force the download of the pdf document.
if downloading from a https uri the "Do not save secure content to disk" option on the advanced tab of Internet Options must be unchecked (default)... if you have a server side download manager, then there is no need to use a https uri.

BUSINESS CONTACT MANAGER HISTORY PDF FILE
I SCAN PDF FILES AND LINK TO CUSTOMER NAME. I HAD TO REINSTALL OUTLOOK BCM NOW SOME OF MY HISTORY FILES DO NOT WORK BUT ALL NEW ONES DO. BUT MOST WILL NOT OPEN. THE FILE IS IN THE HISTORY LIST, BUT I GET ONLY A BUSINESS
ACTVITY SCREEN WITH THE FILE NAME LISTED UNDER COMMETS BUT IT WILL NOT OPEN. THE FILE IS THERE AND WILL OPEN OUTSIDE BCM. IS THERE A WAY TO RELINK THE HISTORY FILES FROM ANOTHER LOCATION, IN BULK.Not to my knowledge. You can relink email messages based on the email address but there isn't a way to re-link journaled files.

Bookmark History When Making PDF
I have a document that I have imported formats into, but then deleted the ones that I did not need. When I make a pdf it still has all the history of all the paragraph formats in the bookmark panel. Is there any way to get rid of these?
lsNow my pdf is working correctly...for the most part. Don't really know why, didn't do anything different.....but all the old para formats are still in the "don't include" side of the "pdf setup for selected files window. (Sorry, guess I didn't explain bookmark panel correctly.) Yesterday I was having unavailable font issues and couldn't even make a pdf and it all of the sudden decided to work right....then everytime I would make a pdf, I would have extra bookmarks. ....still have that problem... but at least I don't have to delete all the para formats everytime from the "include paragraphs side".
We have been using Interleaf for years and are changing over to FM9. Guess since we are newbies, it will be easier as we go along.
Guess it doesn't matter that all those formats are still there....but why does it recognize that they were in the document, even after they have been deleted?
I have attached a pic of the window.
Thanks,

Pdf files stored in browsing history
For some reason, I can't get internet explorer (8.0) to store pdfs as temp files. If I am viewing a pdf in the browser, it has to redownload every time I view it. For example, this site:
http://www.beefretail.org/CMDocs/BeefRetail/URMIS/introduction.pdf
This site has the table of contents on the side. Whenever I use these hyperlinks to navigate throughout this pdf booklet (string, cluster, or whatever it's called) it has to reload every page every time, and it is fairly frustrating. Is there any way to force my browser to store these in temp or to save the whole string of pdfs? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!!!The Apple website specifically states "Because with iCloud Drive, you can safely store all your presentations, spreadsheets, PDFs, images and any other kind of document in iCloud and access them from your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac or PC.".
Now, howe do I "store my PDF" and "access them from my iPhone"? -
I went to firefox>history>clear recent history> time range clear:everything and I clicked all the boxes..I realize I should have clicked only cache box....how can i go back?
Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
* You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
Thank you. -
How to save terminal command and output history to pdf on exit?
When I exit a terminal session (terminal.app), I would like to automatically save the commands and output from the session to a PDF (or text file) as a reference.
I can do this manually in Terminal by selecting Shell --> Print... --> PDF --> Save as PDF...
Unfortunately, I'm too forgetful to remember to do this each time before I exit.
Is there an alias I could set or some other method to automatically save the contents of my session to a PDF when I exit?
Thank you in advance,
jjwFrank,
Your response was helpful, but I realized after looking at my .bash_history file that only the commands entered are listed, not the output. I would like my commands to be printed out, but also the result from the commands (in this simple example, the directory listing):
myuserid[~/galaxy-dist/tools]$ cd ncbi_blast_plus
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------- 09:48:37
myuserid[~/galaxy-dist/tools/ncbi_blast_plus]$ ls
blastxml_to_tabular.py hide_stderr.py ncbi_blastp_wrapper.xml ncbi_tblastn_wrapper.xml
blastxml_to_tabular.xml ncbi_blastn_wrapper.xml ncbi_blastx_wrapper.xml ncbi_tblastx_wrapper.xml
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------- 09:48:38
myuserid[~/galaxy-dist/tools/ncbi_blast_plus]$
I'm thinking that there is an automator script or an alias that I could use so that when I type, "exit", the commands and output for the session would be sent to a PDF and then the session would close.
I know it seems like an odd thing to want, but sometimes I'll forget the sequence of commands that gave me the correct output (plus, my command prompt has a timestamp on it, too).
Thanks, though, for the .bash_history information.

Message was edited by: md monirujjamanHello,
I had thought that your 4th output of the Transaction is an output of a list and NOT from a SCRIPT.
Now, if it is a SAP SCRIPT ourput, it is quite simple as you have to get the OTFDATA from the SCRIPT. But you may have to make the correction in your SAPSCRIPT driver program.
Sample:
CALL FUNCTION 'CLOSE_FORM'
TABLES
otfdata = te_otf_table
EXCEPTIONS
unopened = 1
bad_pageformat_for_print = 2
OTHERS = 3.
Next you may EXPORT this OTF Data Internal Table to ABAP Memory.
In your program where you are calling all the 3 forms + the transaction which outputs the SAPScript output, the exported data may be imported and appended into the MAIN Interal Table and single PDF could be generated.
Secondly, The PRINT prieview of the SSFs could be generated by passing Export options of the SSF FM
SAmple:
ssfctrlop-no_dialog = ' '.
CALL FUNCTION l_form
EXPORTING
control_parameters = ssfctrlop
output_options = ssfcompop
I hope this helps you.
