Pdf's Open When They Feel Like It

I'm working with a website (someone else created) that has a
page that opens pdf's from a link into a blank window (target). The
links always work in Netscape and Firefox, but only sometimes with
ie. For example, it always works from the free X-Drive server
account I have. It also works from my work computer in a couple of
places on the hard drive, but not from my desktop. It doesn't work
at ALL on my home computer.
I know the easiest solution is to say not to use ie or to
change security settings, etc., but this site will be burnt to CD
and distributed to non-technical people and will be autorun. So, it
has to be configured in a way to work from the beginning. So far,
ANY external media I put it on - flash drive/CD/virtual drives it
won't work on.
The links are document relative (i.e.
../pdffolder/example.pdf) but when I rollover the links, the
browser pane display (sorry, not sure what it's called) says
"file:///C:/pdffolder/example.pdf. So, it looks like somehow it's
rewriting the code to be absolute? There are pretty complex style
sheets used in this site, but I haven't found anything that looks
like it refers to how the links "work."
I have no idea what's going on. I've been working on this for
about 15 hours now (during work days) and canNOT figure it out.
There seems to be no pattern.
Does anyone have ANY idea what's going on?

E7 deleting all my emails when it feels like it he...

Hi everyone, im not a techie chap so any easy to understand help would be grateful.
Last 5 weeks or so since the last update my E7 emails have been deleting themselves when they feel like it but only on my pop3 mail??? My live mail has been fine.
I have deleted both mail accounts and re set them not accepting the terms page. Also tried a reset on the phone but nothing is helping. Any ideas please.

Do you currently download your pop3 from another program like outlook maybe. It just has to do with the settings of the program. If the progam is not configured to leave mail on the server then after downloading, the messages will be gone. When you then synchronise with your e7 there are no messaages so all are removed from the phone. I had the same prob. The setting has to be configured from your mail client or service provider. Live mail is left on the server until you delete it. Try deleting a recent message online in you live mail account then sync with your handset. That message should also be gone from the hanset after the sync.

I have an application on 4 computers. On 3, PDF files open as they should, withing the application. On the fourth the file is placed in "downloads" and then opens in a separate tab on the desktop(not inside the application).

It happens whether the application starts in IE11, Google Chrome or Firefox.
This happens whether the "client" signs in over the internet or directly to the local host server.

All of a sudden PDFs wont open when double clicked...

Hey guys, I recently installed cs6, and all was working fine. I havent made any changes recently....
But today I tried double clicking a pdf i downloaded and it looked like it when to open but it didnt. I restarted my machine thinking it needed a restart. Still didnt work. Tried other pdfs still nothing.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

The KB link you shared is for a different issue altogether in which a licensed software reverts to trial mode on launch.
That is not your case.
If you want to set Acrobat or Reader to be the default while opening pdf's please follow the steps below :
Please launch Acrobat.
Click on the 'Edit' button in the toolbar, and then select 'Preferences'
A new window would come up. On the left column, higlight the 'General' Tab and on the right hand side at the bottom there's a button called 'Select Default PDF Handler'
Click the button and select 'Acrobat' as the default for PDF's.Click on 'Ok' now to save the changes.
Alternatively, you can simply right click on any pdf file and then select 'Open With..' > 'Choose Default Program' and select 'Acrobat' from the list of programs.
Make sure the option at the bottom is checked that says ' Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'.
Click on 'Ok' now to save the changes.

Captivate 4: linked pdf file opens when published but closes project

I have linked a couple of pdf files (Live Cycle) to an Adobe Cap 4 project. When I published the Captivate file the pdf file opens and works well but once the user closes the pdf file to contine to the next slide the project closes. Does anyone know how I can correct this? (it works fine in preview but not when published) Thanks!

How exactly are you opening the PDF? If you just linked to it without choosing the "New Window" option it will replace the Captivate project in the browser window.
Perhaps you should examine the configuration of whatever is triggering the opening of the PDF. You should also review the information provided at the link below.

Most recent pdf files open when clicking on one?

Hi,
I am having some issues with Adobe Reader (Downloaded 9.1.3). When I select a pdf to open all of my most recent pdf's open at once. I am using Windows Vista. I have uninstalled and reinstalled after a fresh boot. Any thoughts about what could be causing it or any solutions would be very greatful. I will even throw in a gold star for anyone that helps.

In FF 4.0, how do I set the Tree-Style Tabs extention to keep tabs open when I exit (like it did up through FF 4b11)??

In FF 3.5 through 4.0b11, the Tree-style Tabs extension kept tabs open when I exited so that when I re-opened the program, all tabs re-opened at the same time. Now, every time I return ot the program, I have to re-load all of the tabs I use on a daily basis.

Have you restored as a new device and tried your phone before you add any apps back? If you do this and you're still having problems, then you are having a hardware malfunction and will need to bring your phone into Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.

How do I stop addon pages opening when they update?

Everytime certain addons update (NoScript for example) their homepage is loaded. I find this really annoying as I want updates to happen silently. Is there a way to stop them doing this?

That is odd.
The most common cause is that people have added it to System Preferences > User and Groups > Your account > Login items.
Is it staying removed ?
If it is not it sounds like you have lost the correct setting on the file that holds that info.
(it could also be caused by the same setting being lost on the containing folders.)
The Setting in Messages > Preferences > General section should also stop it independently from that.
I do have this set myself.
However I also Quit all apps when I am about to Shut Down so that no Windows are open to effect the last setting you quote.
I will say that sometimes if I select Shut Down really quickly after closing Apps they will sometimes be "remembered" and reopened the next Start up.

How do I fix PDFs not opening when embedded within a PPT?

I've several PDFs embedded within various Powerpoint PPT files which I simply cannot open - depending upon the laptop I'm using. When I use by business laptop to open the embedded PDF, I get the message: "The server application, source file, or item can't be found, or returned an unknown error. You may need to reinstall the server application." On my business laptop I'm running Windows 7, Adobe Reader X, Adobe Acrobat 9, and MS Powerpoint 2007. When I use my home/personal laptop, the PDF opens up without any errors. My home laptop runs Window 7, Adobe Reader X, and MS Powerpoint 2007. It's weird. I can open embedded MS Excel and MS Word files within the same PPT files on any laptop, but not embedded PDFs. Any idea what's going on here?

Sadly, I have never had luck with the OLE Embedded Object that you put into Office application documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). The OLE objects embedded get corrupted and cannot be extracted. While it's true that there are two other instances where you could get this error:
1) The OLE server application (Acrobat or Reader in this case) is not properly registered with the system
2) Possibly Protected Mode/Protected View in Acrobat is blocking the execution of the OLE Server Application
I wouldn't bet on it.
In the future you may want to use a PDF Portfolio where you can attach both Office and PDF files within the Portfolio envelope.

When exiting Outlook it complains attachments are open when they're not

This has quickly become a widespread issue at our company over the last few months. End users will use Outlook throughout the day, opening and closing email attachments from within Outlook as per normal. At the end of the day, they'll try to exit Outlook, which
will then popup an error one by one for every attachment that has been opened by that user since they started Outlook:
"A program has attachment filename open. Changes to this file will be lost unless you save your changes to another file by clicking the File Tab in the other program, and then clicking Save As."
I can assure you that NONE of the attachments that it's complaining about are actually open in another program. I've tested by shutting down ALL programs on the workstation before closing Outlook, and the same error will
popup over and over for every attachment that user has opened throughout the day.
Environment is Outlook 2010 and 2013 32-bit, running on Windows 7 SP1 x64 workstations and laptops, most are in online mode with Exchange 2010 SP3 Update Rollup 7 on the backend.
This issue has popped up on various combinations of software, some running Outlook 2010, some Outlook 2013, some in online mode and some in cached mode, for MANY users in our company (not all though).
Googling for similar issues doesn't turn up much.
Any thoughts?

Do you have a folder redirection environment?
When we open attachments within Outlook, Outlook puts these attachments in a subdirectory of the Temporary Internet Files directory as an additional precaution. We may try to empty the Temporary Internet Files folder before exiting Outlook to check
if this issue will disappear. We can find the Temporary Internet Files directory in the OutlookSecureTempFolder registry key from the following registry path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\xx.0\Outlook\Security (xx.0 is the version of your Outlook)
In addition, does this issue exist if we open Outlook in safe mode? Press Windows key + R to open the Run command, type
outlook /safe and press Enter. If this issue doesn't exist in safe mode, it means this issue may be caused by a problematic add-in you installed. We can go to File > Options > Add-ins and then disable suspicious add-in
to resolve the issue.
If you have any virus scanner installed, please also try to temporarily disable it and then test it again. This is because virus scanner always integrate itself with Outlook, which may cause an Outlook shutdown issue.
Please let me know the result.

Lion thinks files on network share are open when they aren't

I have a machine running Lion and when the user goes to open a file on a network share they recive "the file is in use" error, a few seconds later a dialog box pops up saying that the file is available and the user is able to open the file.
I've checked and the file is not open any where else. I'm thinking that this has somthing to do with the new reopen file feature in Lion but I haven't been able to find proof to that fact.
I'm running an xServer with 10.6.7 and a 10.7 client.

Screen saver can't be disabled; starts when it feels like it

I have a weird problem with my screen saver. I had to shut down my Mac mini (G4, 1.42GHz) manually via the power button a few days ago, and ever since then, the system refuses to obey the "Start screen saver:" time delay preference in System Preferences. I'd always had it set to "Never", but now it always starts after the standard time interval. I've since discovered that even if I set it to 3 minutes, it still waits a half hour or so to start (I'm assuming it's the default delay).
I've checked for corrupt preferences in my home and main Library directories files using plutil, but they're all good; I booted with the restore disc to repair any startup disk HDD errors in Disk Utility (there were some errors, in what files and of what vintage I know not, but I was able to fully repair the disk and now no problems are reported); I've even trashed and re-set my screen saver .plist file (~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.screensaver.SOMEHASH.plist) a few times. From the looks of things, the Screen Saver preferences pane is recording the correct idle time and screen saver in the .plist file, it's just not honoring the idle time. It does, however, allow me to change the screen saver itself. I don't have any screen savers installed that didn't come with the system -- I've been alternating between the iTunes and RSS ones since I can't choose 'None'.
Any ideas on how to fix this? I can't emphasize enough how much I hate screen savers (no offense to the programmers, they're just not my thing!). It's especially frustrating that I have to leave the computer sit for a half hour just to test any possible solution...

So after some time it stopped doing it. Then it started again. I still don't know what the issue is, but I do know what causes it.
When I plug in an external monitor to the DVI port, the sreensaver disregards any mouse movements on the the extended display, and goes into screensaver mode. If I disconnect the monitor the computer continues to act as it does when the monitor is plugged in. What I've done to remedy this is use the laptop in clamshell mode, disable the screensaver, then disconnect the monitor.
This seems to remedy the problem. Hope this helps anybody else with similar issues.

In some folders I get duplicates (or even multiple) copies of the same photograph. How do I stop this happening or when it does how do I delete the extra copies I don't want. Plus from time to time the photos in one folder will appear in another? Do they do this when I'm asleep? Help please

I print to pdf multiple times in Autocad and I do not want Adobe opening each new pdf page...I just want to continue creating the pages without the preview

For a PC, go to Start>Printers and select the preferences for the Adobe PDF printer. On the settings tab you can select to not open the PDF after printing.
