PDF's won't print

I have a user who cannot print PDF's to a HP 4520 color laserjet printer.  The user can print anything else (docs, spreatsheets, text files, pictures, etc) to the printer, but not PDF's.  The user has XP with all the latest upgrades and Acrobat Pro V8.  Anyone else can print PDF's to the printer.  The user can also print to another printer, just not this one.  Acrobat has been uninstalled, the registry cleaned and reinstalled with the latest updates as has the printer.  Logging onto the PC as administrator instead of the user has the same results.  The print spooler is running.  It appears as if Acrobat is not sending the PDF to the print spooler.  It makes no difference if the PDF is self created or one generated by someone else, they just won't print.  I have been through the trouble shooting sheet presented by Adobe, but no help.  The "chat" also has been no help, and was thoroughly discusted with one of the agents when asking for assitance and was just dropped when he asked if there was anything else he could help with and I told him he had not given me any information that would help.  Any assistance would be appreciated.

Maybe the file name assigned to a pdf is not compatible with your  printer's memory. Example, if the file name includes brackets [ ] { } or other  punctuation, or is very long, the printer won't recognize it.  One print  job that stalls will hold up the entire print queue, so  delete your job from the queue.
First, look at the file name  displayed in the print server's list of print jobs.  The same file name  also appears in the top blue bar of your Acrobat pdf  display.  Are there brackets, per cent signs, or other punctuation marks  in the file name?
This file name works:
ti50000
These would not work:
ti50000[1]  because of the brackets
sarif00099659%47%000%%000%0000  because of the length and  the percent signs
You can rename the  file by saving the pdf to your desktop. Click on the Acrobat toolbar  icon for Save (a picture of a floppy ) and rename  the file.  You can use any name - the author's last name, for example -  as long as you don't  include punctuation or too  many characters. Now send this file to the printer.

PDF's won't print in Internet Explorer 9 after upgrading to Adobe Reader 11.0.03.
The print dialogue box won't open....nothing happens.
Desktop OS is Windows 7 SP1.

Two obvious troubleshooting techniques are to delete and re-install the printer driver (or updating printer driver) and fixing the installation of Acrobat. Have you given those a try?

  • PDF's won't print using Reader 9.4.6

Have windows Windows XP OS, Adobe Reader 9.4.6.  PDF's won't print, but all other types of docs print fine.  Get error message "Pages not selected", although I've selected pages.  Tried different printer, same problem.  Tried to upgrade to 9.5, but got error message after 96% downloaded.

XP will run Adobe Reader 11.0.5: http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
I'd suggest upgrading to the newest version.

  • Using Adobe 8.1.2 some PDF files won't print

Since we've upgraded to the latest version of Reader, 8.1.2, some of the files won't print. For example, this morning I got two PDF files in the same email, they both opened in Reader, but only one of them prints--sending to a Canon ImageRunner 5570 printer/copier/fax machine. I'm not getting any error messages on my computer, it just doesn't print?
If I save a copy of the unprintable PDF to my desktop, then open in Acrobat 6.0 Standard (older version I know), it prints fine to the same printer.
Does anyone know what's going on here? Best, David.

We've been having the same problems printing to a Canon ImageRunner 4570, 8.1.2 won't print but 6 will. We can print to our other HP printer fine from 8.1.2, so it seems to be specific to the Canon. Tried printing from a shallow folder structure, but that hasn't seemed to have helped. Anyone heard if this is unique to the Canon printers? Thanks - Mike

  • Indesign-generated .pdf files won't print

I realize this question is vague to the point of being unanswerable, but here I go anyway.
Our department's publication person sent me a number of chapters of our book in progress so that I could print an uncorrected proof to show to our funding source. She emailed me .pdf files generated by InDesign CS2, probably, although it might have been CS3.
She also emailed me the indesign file for the frontmatter because I had some things to add, so the .pdf for that I generated myself.
I took everything to a local printer we regularly use. To print this job he was using a large commercial Canon setup I think. None of the .pdfs would print on it. He ended up having to print them all as images for the purposes of creating a proof for me.
Now, I printed all of them myself on our networked postscript printer, both from a Mac and a Windows machine, no problem.
Since the files had been emailed to me, and then to him, we thought maybe they got corrupted, so I brought them over on a disk, but that didn't help, not even the one file whose .pdf I generated myself would print.
So is this an issue that has come up--indesign-generated .pdf files being unprintable on a commercial printer but printable on a postscript machine.

    Dov and Al,
Yes, I'm sorry, I do realize that this isn't enough to diagnose a problem. I was hoping that this might be something that has come up before and someone would recognize.
As far as I could tell, he was opening up the print jobs in Acrobat and sending them to his printer, which had its own job monitor. When he consulted that monitor he just said, no, it won't print.
He's a smart guy and I've done a number of jobs with him that were generated in indesign, so I'm really at a loss to explain what has gone wrong with this one.

  • .pdf's won't print to hp with ps printer driver

I'm on win7 64 using acrobat pro 11, trying to print to a networked hp laserjet 3015 with hp's universal postscript printer driver.
I didn't have this issue with the pcl5 driver, but it wouldn't allow me to print more that one copy at a time, so I switched to the ps driver.
No other programs are having trouble with the ps driver, and acrobat prints fine to my other networked printer, a canon mx882.
I've found two workarounds and discovered that acrobat XI is very buggy.
I can get it to print the .pdf by selecting print as image, but that takes forever
it appears that .pdfs with only text print fine--it's just an issue if they have some graphic content.
If I go to print, click advanced, and under postscript options select print method "language level 2", and immediately click okay and click print. It will print fine, but the setting does not stay, the next time I open the Advanced dialogue, it's back on language level 3.
    1. This makes no sense.
    2. a setting ought to stay when you set it.
    3. This took hours of trial and error to find--how would anyone know to do this?
Therefore I say this is a serious flaw/bug problem. Where do I report it.  You can't reach a human at adobe unless you're a paying subscriber.  I just happen to prefer purchasing software outright, so I'm out of luck.
Why can't acrobat just work the way it should?

    Hi Bruce ,
Please help us with the information below for further assistance on this.
    1) Exact version of Acrobat (Help>About Acrobat)
    2) How was the PDF created, (PDF Producer) File Properties
    3) Size of the PDF not being printed
    4) Try printing directly to the printer, rather than spooling the document first
    go to device and Printers
Right click on the printer and go to the printer properties.
    Advanced>Print directly to the printer.
Also, try printing the documents first to the Adobe PDF Printer and then try printing them to the physical printer.
    Thanks,

  • The last page of every pdf document won't print.

If I ask to print just one page - nothing.   If I ask for two pages, I get the first page.   Help.  Using Mac OSX 10.9.5 and Adobe 11.0.09
I tried printing using an older version of Adobe, had the 'won't print last page problem' so I upgraded to the latest version.   Still the same exact problem.    Does anyone have suggestions?

I have the same problem, but not just in Acrobat. Indesign also. So... I can't print a single page. Have to print two, and toss the one I don't want. Seems to be a problem with Adobe print interface. I can sometimes "trick" it by going to system print dialog box and back out again.

  • PDF File Won't print text, just watermark and image

    Hello,
I have created a fillable/saveable PDF.  I have one client who states that when he attempts to print it, it only prints the watermark and our logo in the upper right corner.  He says that it won't save either.  He has made an attempt at two different computers.  There is a similar PDF we created that he can print and save properly.  So far it's just the one we are having trouble with.
When we check it on our end, it works fine.  We can save and print it fine.  I have asked what browser he is using and await a reply.
Any ideas on a setting on his computer, browser or Adobe Reader I can have him check?
    Many thanks!,
    Dave

As far as the printing, he likely does not have document and markup selected. The document is the original PDF and the markup would be form fields and such.
As for saving, if he is using Reader he will not be able to save unless you have activated Reader Rights. There are license restrictions on using the activation you should read before you go on your merry way, generally restricting the number of uses (500) of the form for data collection in that case.

  • Safari 6.0.5 pdf still won't print with cache emptied and relaunched on my MAC 10.8.5

Emptied cache and relaunched Safari. The pdf I click on that shows a document goes blank when I click on print. I did learn that other documents in Safari will print after all, but not this one. Enabled cookies to no avail. Firefox works. Must be something to do with the site I am on perhaps.

    Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Adobe Reader 9.3.2 - PDF attachment won't print from right click

    Hi all,
Hopefully someone can assist some kind of suggestion, we have just rolled out Adobe Reader 9.3.2 upgrade from v8.  When we now try to print a PDF Outlook 2003 attachment from the right click menu, we are prompted with the 'Open With' window.  Selecting Adobe Reader 9.3 and press okay opens the document, but it doesn't spool.  We can print the document fine from Adobe Reader itself, any ideas?
    TIA
    Frosty

I have seen the same problem in this forum a couple of times (on Windows Vista and 7 only), but I have never seen a solution for it.
Can you try if Adobe Reader 8.2 does the same?  Download it from here http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/8.x/8.2/enu/AdbeRdr820_en_US.msi
If the same happens with Reader 8.2, then I have no other suggestion than to try an alternate PDF viewer.

  • Pdf file won't print

Whenever I try to print a pdf file the printer stops working. It only happens with the pdf. I trashed the existing acrobat and it worked for a day, then started doing it again. I hooked up my ibook to the printer and it prints pdf's fine, Any suggestions?

There are numerous posts on the net of slow printing of pdf files with certain HP printers. I myself suffer from this (on an HP1200 Laserjet) and despite installing additional RAM on my otherwise wonderful printer, have seen no improvement. Google ["slow printing" pdf os x] and you will find many many reports of this. If your problem stems from this issue, I don't think a solution has been made available yet, unfortunately.
Here is a sample of other users' experiences from hp's boards:

  • Visible images won't print

My source InDesign document can print them fine, they look good in the PDF, then won't print. Any help will be appreciated. I'm stumped.

It's do with your printer more than anything else, probably can't handle the file. Hard to know without knowing what printer you have?
You printer (if a desktop out of the shop one) won't have very hi-res anyway, usually around 150 - 200 dpi.
So you could probably print it as a bitmap and not see any difference in picture quality.
Hold on there, Eugene. Printers today output in the range of 600 - 1200 DPI, but tend to use screen frequencies in the range of 100 LPI which means an image resolution at print size in the 150 to 200 PPI range is usually adequate.
    DaraClare2,
I'm curious how this looks on screen with overprint preview turned on. Also, what version of ID are you using, and what formats are the images used?
And expensive printers, especially from Xerox, are not immune to some quirks.

  • My LaserJet P1100 won't print pdf's

LaserJet P1100 will not print pdf's from thirtd party websites. Downloaded pdf's sometimes print but mostly not. A HP tecchie had a go at solving this but only managed to screw up the settings on my pc...the problem remained.

    Hi @sweep ,
I see that you are having issues printing PDF documents from a third party website. I would be happy to help you.
Which Laserjet model do you have? How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Laserjet P1102 or the Laserjet P1102w.
Try and print a PDF document from the manual for the printer, to see if you have the same results.
This way we will know if it is the website or if the printer won't print any PDF documents.
Let me know the results. LASERJET PROFESSIONAL P1100 Printer series.
Try another web browser to see if the PDF will print.
Try printing the PDF as an image:
Open the original PDF file, if necessary.
Click File, and then click Print, or click the Print icon. The Print window opens.
Click Advanced. The Advanced Print Setup window opens.
Select the Print As Image checkbox, change any other settings as desired, and then click OK.
On the Print window, click OK again to begin printing.
Run all the Adobe Updates. Product updates.
How is the printer connected? (USB/Wireless)
If there is anything else I can help you with, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!
