.pdf's won't render in Safari

Suddenly .pdf files accessed via a link render to an empty page. I reset Safari and cleaned the caches ... even downloaded and did a reinstall. Nada. Every one of the links works in other browsers such as FireFox and all links used to work in Safari.

Hi...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar top of your screen click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Click Go
Move the Adobe PDF browser plugin to the Trash.
Quit then relaunch Safari to test.

  • Pdf files won't open in Safari running on a Mac

I just upgraded my MacBook Pro to Snow Leopard in preparation for Lion and ever since the upgrade, pdf files won't open in Safari.  I have Reader 9.4.5.  It opens documents that are on my machine, it just won't open in Safari, nor do the documents download.

MIght be helpful to disable Adobe plugin by going to Adobe Reader's Preferences -> Internet and unchecking "Display PDF in browser using".
Then dump the atrocious bloated Reader.
See this https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3252667?start=0&tstart=0 for further solutions.

  • PDF files won't open in Safari

I'm not sure when this happened but it seems recently...when I go to sites which have pdf files attached (e.g. Yamaha electonics/support/user manuals)the pdf files no longer load within Safari nor download to be opened in their own window. I have Adobe Reader 8.0 and Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0. Ho do I restore Safari's ablity to find the corrrect plug in and use it to open pdf files?
Message was edited by: Merlin Macuser

Open Adobe Reader, go to Preferences > Internet and disable the "Display PDF in browser using:" option, then quit; do the same for Acrobat Pro.
Quit Safari if it's running. Then copy and paste this command into Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport -bool false
Press Enter or Return, then quit Terminal.
Restart Safari and try loading a PDF file; it should work perfectly.

  • PDF's won't load in Safari

So in the Leopard manual is says that PDF's will now open in Safari, and that if i hover my mouse cursor near the bottom of the screen, a series of option buttons will appear where i can download the file or open it in preview. I take this new feature to mean i don't need adobe acrobat to view PDF files online. However, when i click on a PDF file in a website, it automatically downloads it to my downloads folder without opening it in Safari. How do I make Safari open the PDF file in a safari window like the manual says it should?

    Hi
My name is Diethard and I am a recent switcher from PC to Mac, living in Switzerland. I have found an article in the forum, where you helped someone on the problem with Adobe Acrobat Reader.
I have made the "mistake" to install the Acrobat Reader ... and then decided that I prefer to view pdf files through the Preview-function of Leopard. I have managed to get the Preview to be the pdf view for pdf files from the HD. But in Safari I am confronted with the problem, that the click on the pdf icon opens a window, which is then searching for the Acrobat pdf view - which is deinstalled already.
From the article I saw that you proposed to the other person that one should make sure that the library is free of any plug-ins. I have checked this and can confirm that the library folder Internet/Plug-Ins is empty (well, I don't know whether there are "hidden" files, like under Windows). However, when I am opening Safari and look at the menu Help/Installed Plug-ins, I find on top of all other plug-ins a list of plug-ins of Adobe Acrobat (I have copied the list at the end of this mail). But I don't know where I can find them, whether I can de-insatll them without creating a problem.
I also tried the other proposal from the same mail string (write a code into the Konsole), but also that did not prevent Safari to open the acrobat pdf viewer window and then search for the (no longer) existing Acrobat 8.0 ...
Any idea how I could get this solved and back to pure Leopard pdf viewing? Maybe I need to mention that I also have Adobe Photoshop on my PC. Thus I can not just delete anything with Adobe in the name ...
    Thank you in advance

  • Linked PDF file won't preview in Safari

I linked a PDF file to my iWeb page but when I click on it in Safari it loads almost to the end but then errors at the last two pages. The same file works fine in Mac Firefox and IE on a few PC's I tried. Safari though on multiple macs just wouldn't view it. I could however right click and download then it viewed fine in Preview.
    Any thoughts?

Okay, but what Terminal command did you attempt to use before? What happens in the new user account when you try Safari there? Do you have any Input Managers installed? Those are located in /Library/InputManagers and Home/Library/InputManagers; if you don't have either of those folders, then you have no Input Managers.
You can also try quitting Safari and going to Home/Library/Preferences and deleting the com.apple.Safari.plist file, then restarting Safari and resetting all your preferences to see if that resolves the problem. But don't do that until after you've had no luck with the things above.

  • PDF´s won´t open in Safari... Wazzup?

    Hi!
I seem to be unable to open any PDF´s in Safari- when ever I encounter a pdf, I have to copy the link, and paste it in Opera, in order to open it... Am I totally blond and beyond, or what?? I have the same problem on both my Imacs and my MacBook Pro. :-(
Please help- it´s really starting to bug me!
    Best regards,

Have you installed Adobe Reader? If so, disable all AdobePDFViewer plugin files resident in /Library/Internet Plug-ins, restart, and see if that fixes the issue.

  • PDF Links Won't Open in Safari 3.1.2

Whenever I click on a PDF link in Safari, I just get a blank gray page with a spinner. PDFs use to open with no problem. I did update to Adobe CS3 last week - don't know if that's part of the problem. I have plenty of memory and disk space. Any ideas?

Do you have Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat Pro installed? If so, that is the problem.
You need to quit Safari, start the applicable program(s) you have, go to Preferences > Internet and uncheck the box where it says "Display PDF in browser using:". Then go to Users/username/Library/Internet Plug-Ins and remove the Adobe PDF plugin. Restart Safari and try view a PDF in the browser.

  • Pdf won't open in safari

    Hi,
Since Mountain Lion I have a problem with safari. I hoped that upgrading to Mavericks would help, but it didn't.
I cannot open pdfs within Safari on my iMac.
I already saw other threads that helped many people with solutions but for me these doen't help.
I already deleted the adobe plug ins from the library and there are no other plugins for pdf in this folder. In Safari from the menu "installed plug ins" I only see the WebKit built in and a plugin for Speed Download concerning the pdf files.
    I use OSX 10.9.0
    Safari 7.0
    Acrobat Reader 11.0.04
    I also have Glims installed.
Does anybody have a clue what I can do.
    Thank you for your support.

The plugin is where I said it was. You're looking in the wrong place. Let's try again.
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin
A Finder window will open with that item selected. Delete it, then quit and relaunch Safari.

  • PDF won't view in safari

    Hi
When I try to open or view PDF files on the web with Safari the page wont load. This is a big problem for me as I am a student. any Ideas
    Thanks

We were having the same issues at my work. My IT staff and I figured out that Safari must have been having difficulties communicating with the PDF program.
PDFs would load fine in all other internet browsers on the Mac (Firefox, IE, Netscape) without problems. It was definitely a Safari-related issue.
You might want to try what Klaus has suggested.
Or, of that doesn't work for any reason, you can try the steps below (which worked here for us -- we are currently on Safari 3.0):
    1. Remove your Adobe Acrobat Reader program from your machine. Find its folder in the Applications folder and delete it.
    2. Go to adobe.com and download their latest Acrobat Reader program. Install. When asked if you want to make it your default PDF viewer, tell it YES.
    3. Shut down your Safari and try again.
PDFs should load fine after this fix.

  • PDF file won't open after saving it from the web.  get error message file is damaged.

My PDF files won't open after saving them to Docs from the web.  I get error message file is damaged. Can someone help me correct this problem on Mac Air w Mountain Lion?

I wonder if the image is being embedded somehow and there is not enough scratch disk space to render the file. Just a hunch. Check your hardrive to see how much free space is available. Also, check your RAM and see if you can upgrade ( install more, install much more ) to max out as much RAM as possible. At a minimum, check for fragmentation and do a "Correct Permissions" via Apple's Disk Utility.
But, weird things start happening when a font becomes corrupt. Not that one is, but it may be in your best interest to acquire a font management utility like Font Agent PRO ( if you don't have one already ). A good font management program can detect and disable corrupt fonts.
CS1 and OSX10.4 should be fairly compatable with the 7500, but you may have gone as far as you can go. Think about upgrading to a G4 or a G5. I believe the 7500 was pre G3 ( which I think is the minimum requirements for CS1 ).

  • 10.4.7--PDF links won't work

Since installing the 10.4.7 update, links to PDF files won't open. The url appears in the appropriate place, but the page stays blank.
    Ideas, please?

Yes to both; I installed the Adobe update in the hope that this would solve the problem, but to no avail.
The PDFs download normally with Firefox, BTW. But, unlike many, I greatly prefer Safari, so I'm anxious for this to be fixed. Thanks for your replies.

  • Media Encoder CC  won't render Magic Bullet Denoiser II

    Hello there,
i've got the following Problem: I am having Premiere CC and used the Red Giant Plug-In Denoiser II on my last project, when i import this project to the Media Encoder and select Quicktime for output, the Media Encoder won't render the clip with this Plug-In. i always get the original files out, without the denoiser. Original footage from in premiere is 2,5k CinemaDNG RAW from the Black Magic Cinema Camera.
    thx

I feel like there was a recent update to the RG plugins (inside of the last 30 or so days.) Are they up to date?

  • Pictures won't load in Safari, or any other browser

I have an intermittent problem where internet pictures won't load. This seems to happen mostly on social networking or picture intensive sites. I've particularly had trouble with myspace, livejournal, facebook, flickr, okcupid, etc., but it is not limited to those sites. Sometimes pics won't load in Safari but will load in firefox. Sometimes the other way around. Sometimes neither of those browsers will work, and neither will opera, explorer, etc. It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm connected by airport or ethernet. I Know it is not my internet connection because I have a PC on the same network that never has this problem. When I travel with my macbook, the problem comes with me.
I am currently running 10.5.2 on a 2 GHZ macbook. Previously, I had this exact same problem on a 550 MHZ Titanium Powerbook G4 running 10.4. I used to think it was just my old slow computer, but when I upgraded computers I transferred all my files and settings with the migration assistant, and the problem seems to have followed.
    Things I have tried:
    1. Making a new user account. I added a new account but did not delete my old one or do a clean install. This did not work.
    2. Using a new DNS server. No dice.
    Any suggestions?

Is the iPhone using your Mac to connect?
See if the Mac has any Proxies set...
10.5/10.6 instructions, System Preferences>choose interface>Advanced>Proxies Tab, make sure none are set, like for  HTTPS.

  • How do I open a pdf on a web page in Safari without Acrobat Reader?

At the moment I have removed Acrobat Reader 10.3.1 because it conflicts with Safari. Preview is a perfectly fine pdf reader (and with lots of very nice features) but I don't see how I can make Preview open a pdf from a web page until it has been downloaded to file. And I have found at least one site that will not download to file before opening.

Right-click in the PDF when it's displayed in Safari and select Open with Preview from the popup menu. Depending on how the PDF is embedded in the web page, this may not be possible.

  • Timeline won't render in Premiere Elements 12 (and music video editing advice)

I have a section of video I'm editing that won't render. I've read some similar threads but still have a question about how I can edit the clips to 'force' a render.
I'm running PE 12 on a Core i3 laptop running Windows 8, so not a huge amount of processing power. I don't have an orange line above the timeline over these clips and I understand PE has decided that it's already giving me the best possible preview quality and doesn't need to render this section. However, it's four quick edits in time to some music and when I preview it back my computer clearly can't process the video and audio fast enough because I get very jerky video so I can't verify that the cuts are perfectly aligned to the drum beats.
I've been exporting the whole four minutes just to review about five seconds of video in the middle to make sure it's synched, and this is getting really frustrating as I'm having to make frame by frame adjustments to improve the sync.
Is there anything I can do to each clip, like adjust an image setting, to force PE to give me an orange line and want to render this section?
Just as an aside to anyone who edits music video type clips - if you're making, say, four quick cuts to four drum beats in a bar, do you find the audio/visual sync works best if the cut is on the frame the drum beat attack starts on, or does it seem more natural if it's one or two frames after the initial attack so it's 'mid drum beat'? I'm tending to find just after the initial attack looks/sounds better for me - but maybe that's something to do with the delay in my PC processing the frame!
    Thanks for any advice,
    Chris.

    Chris
Please excuse the questions, but I did not want to take anything for granted...are you sure that you are looking above the Timeline content for the render indicator line? Assuming that you are OK with that.....
Are the gray tabs of the Work Area Bar placed so that they span the entire content of the Timeline, including this five second content which you say cannot be rendered. Remember rendering does not fix problems, rather it is a preview that helps you to realize that a problem exists sooner than later. Consequently, please confirm if an orange line persists over that five second content even if you press the Render key above the Timeline.
Have you expanded the Timeline content to the maximum with the Zoom Out Zoom In Slider above the Timeline get the best look at the content on the Timeline in contrast to get the best possible preview in the Edit area monitor?
Have you gone to Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and set the Audio Display Format to Milliseconds if you are involved in audio edits?
Have you been nudging audio in sync with video using shortcuts, such as...
As you hold down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard, tap the left or right arrow key once (one tap = 1 frame nudge)
As you hold down the Shift+Alt keys of the computer main keyboard, tap the left or right arrow key once (one tap = 5 frames nudge)
I would suggest that exploration and experimentation are the best tools with which to work to achieve a specific effect for your specific
    situation.
Please review and then let us know if any of the above targets your questions about your workflow.
    Thank you.
