PDF Scrolling in Safari

Pdfs scroll very badly in Safari. It is jerky, very sensitive, too fast. This has come up before in the Communities, but the solutions I've found either don't work or aren't relevant after OSX updates. In preview scrolling is well behaved.  Any update solutions?
I am using a Magic Mouse on an iMac running OSX 10.9.1,  Safari Version 7.0.1 (9537.73.11).
Same problem on a MBP (same setup).
Thanks

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and check the box marked
Allow Plug-ins
Then click
Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • Safari 6 Slow PDF Scroll and Behavior !!!!

    ! Hi !
I've just upgraded from Lion to ML and noticed something wierd.  If I open a pdf link in Safari 6, and the embedded PDF viewer starts, safari becomes Slow scrolling the PDF and sometimes Stops for 2 pr 3 seconds.
Is Anyone having the same problem?
    Can someone help me?
    Best Regards,
    Stejimenez

Just adding my $.02 here as well, Safari Version 6.0 (8536.25) seems buggy, for example, right now none of my keyboard shortcuts work, changing tabs, back, or the mouse gestures like back or scrolling do not work.
    for clairfication I'm on a Macbook Pro 17 OS X 10.8 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3.
I use the following key commands in chrome and used to use them in Safari before Mountain Lion upgrade:
⌘ ←  to go back (doesn't work in Safari 6.0)
⌘⌥← (or ⌘⌥→) to switch tabs (doesn't work in Safari 6.0)
I use the following gestures in chrome and used to use them in Safari before Mountain Lion upgrade:
two-finger vertical swipe to scroll (doesn't work in Safari 6.0)
three-finger horzontal swipe to the left to go back (doesn't work in Safari 6.0)
Through further testing I think it's site specific, gestures do not work while on stackoverflow or facebook, but do work on w3cschools and wordpress.org -- huh.

  • Can't open PDF files in safari

I have a problem opening PDF files in safari
50% of the time I get a error message:
"could not launch acrobat." then safari quits,
and the other 50% of the time:
it safari does noting for about half a minute and then quits,
it's not a problem with acrobat, because it does work in Fx and Chrome
anyone knows what's wrong and, especially, how to solve it?

There's a couple things you can try to view pdf files in Safari.
Install Acrobat Reader 9 and it will ask if you Acrobat Reader to view pdf's. Close Safari, check yes and re-open. If AR9 is already installed, go to prefs/internet and and check yes in the box for 'display pdf in browser using......'.
Alternatively, if Acrobat is opening the pdf file in Safari, and you don't like it (which I didn't), go HD/library/internet plugins and throw away the 'AdobePDFviewer' plugin, and restart Safari. I believe the Quicktime plugin then handles the pdf.
You may also need to check the mime types in Quicktime. Open System Preferences/Quicktime/Advanced and open the Mime Settings button. Scroll to 'images' and check the box for pdf's.
    Hope this helps.

  • Opening PDF Files in Safari

How do I open a PDF File inside Safari? All I get is a dark grey screen. I know adobe doesn't support the 64bit version of Safari. Is there another option?
    Thanks!

    Same problem here.
From that link above I get:
    +(A) View a PDF File With Safari+
+1 Go to a Web page that displays a PDF link.+
+2 Click on the link. Safari will open up the PDF file into your Safari window.+
+3 View the contents of the PDF file by scrolling down the page.+
    +(B) Download a PDF File+
+1 Open up Safari and go to a Web page that offers a link to a PDF file.+
+2 Hold down the 'Control' button and click on the PDF link in the Web page (or right-click if you have the right kind of mouse).+
+3 Choose the option 'Download Linked File' from the pull down menu that appears. This will download the file directly to your desktop.+
    +(C) Open a PDF File in Preview+
+1 Open up a PDF file in your browser window.+
+2 Hold down the 'Control' button and click anywhere on the PDF document in the Safari window.+
+3 Choose the option 'Open File with Preview.app' from the pull down menu.+
A - doesn't work. I get a grey screen. Sometimes it asks which prog I want to use and then have to navigate to Reader. But, unlike Windows, it never remembers that choice!
B - it often doesn't download a thing. And the rest of that workaround is a ridiculous thing to have to do every time you want to view a .pdf file!
    C - oh please...

  • Pdf scrolling possible in schueber.it plugin ?

When I open a pdf file in Safari using the schueber.it plugin, i can't use the two-finger scrolling like on a webpage. However, Camino with the same plugin provides that feature. So, anyone else with luck in Safari ?

.. then use another application (I can't remember the name) to add the fields ..
    That would be Acrobat Pro.
Nothing ID can do for you here. You still create the PDF with a layout package, and add form fields (which are a PDF feature, not a layout thing) with Acrobat. Fortunately, Acrobat has a nearly magical Form Field wizard that'll help you through that process as painless as possible.

  • How to view PDF files in Safari 5.1?

Every time I try to view a PDF file in Safari 5.1.1 (double clicking or using the contextual menu)i, it downloads the file instead. Is there a fix for this?
Adobe tells me that their plugin will not work with Safari 5.1 (with Lion or Snow Leopard) and suggests that I revert to Safari 5.0/Leopard.
    A.

    Go to /Library/Internet Plug-Ins.
Move the PDF Browser Plug-In to the Trash.
Restart your Mac. Try viewing a PDF in Safari.

  • Can not open PDF's in Safari

    Hi All:
I know this has been asked and answered so many time that I am sorry to post again. However, I have read many of the prior posts, tired the fixes, and still the problem persists. All of a sudden, without any erxplanation I know of, PDF links do not open within Safari, as in the past, but instead revert to the Downloads and open in Preview.
    MacBook Pro OS: 10.6.8
    Safari: 5.1.7
I have two other accounts set up and they both open PDF links within Safari.
I have downloaded Adobe Reader again, checked my plugins. I can’t locate any Adobe plugins on either my home account or hard drive, restarted, etc.
If possible, can someone try and offer assistance. It's one of those things which is bugging me and have been struggling with for the past three hours.
    thank you.

    Hi Linc:
You and Carolyn seem to tbe the go to  people for this issue.
When I pull up the plug0ins from the Help Menu, I get an entire page. I've tried copying it below.
What really confuses me is that it works fine in my other accounts and I can't determine what is different in this account.

I am trying to open PDF files from safari, but when I click on them they open in a separate window and the information is encrypted. Any ideas on how to get them to open them in Adobe? Any help please!

The pdf is loading as html code. If you save it, it will download as :

    Dear everyone
I need to configure Acrobat to display PDF files in Safari, but I have a lot of troubles to do it.
I read a european commission document explaining that
    http://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/data/support/sep_usermanual.pdf
If Safari does not display pdf forms in the browser window, uninstall all older versions of Adobe Reader and download the most recent one. First close Safari and then install Reader. Launch Safari and you ought to be able to open the pdf files inside the Safari window. If you install Adobe Reader 10.1.x without first closing Safari, Safari will not display the pdf file inside its browser window until it is re-launched. For further help, please see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/troubleshoot-safari-plug-acrobat-x.html
I have OX S yosemite, I unistalled adobe acrobat, I closed safary and I installed the new version of adobe acrobat
but when I open a web page that I need to allow me to display and modify PDF files it is not working.
I checked the following web page
    Troubleshoot Safari plug-in | Acrobat X, Reader X
    that is recommending the following:
The AdobePDFViewer plug-in is used to display PDF files in Safari using Acrobat and Reader.
This plug-in is installed as part of the Acrobat X or Reader X installation. The location of this plug-in is:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin
but after the new installation with this folder is completely empty and I am still
    unable to open these pdf.
Does anybody knows anything else I can do?
    Best regards

  • How to stop Acrobat trying to open PDFs in a Safari window?

I have CS3 and when I try to look at a page with a PDF in Safari, it want to start to load I assume a acrobat reader in the safari window.
Before I had CS3 it of course it just used preview in the Safari window.
I have tried to search for a PDF plug in Safari, and I cant find one on the drive. But if you check plugins in Safari from the help menu it does say using Acrobat.
What do I need to remove to stop it?

    Hi
If it's greyed out, either the plug-in is missing, the preference file is possibly corrupt, or this is another example of how Adobe expresses its version of "creativity" on the Mac platform.
Tongue-in-cheek aside, I don't have CS3, so I can only speculate here. Other than the possible missing plug-in, or preference file corruption, I wonder if installing Adobe Reader frees up the greyed area via Reader's preference file?

  • Why Acrobat Reader doesn't open pdf-files from Safari?

I'm new Mac user and cannot find answer why I cannot open pdf-files directly from Safari. My Macbook OS X 10.9.3 and Safari is 7.0.4. Only way to open pdf-files is to download the content first and then open it. If I try to open it directly Acrobat says "Before proceeding you must first launch Adobe Acrobat and accept the end user license agreement". I have downloaded Acrobat Reader several times already and cannot understand what I'm doing wrong.

  • What has happened to the pdf toolbar in Safari 5.1.2?

I'm using Safari 5.1.2 with OS X Lion.
Usually when I open a pdf page in Safari and move the mouse pointer to the bottom of the Safari window, the pdf toolbar shows options like zooming, open in Preview.app or save to downloads folder, but this function appears to have been deleted. I used this feature all the time. Is it gone? Why?
