PDF settings question

I have been using Acrobat Standard v 8 to print letters out of Word.  My company logo - a gray scale, round logo - is a small jpg file inserted into header of the the Word doc (2003 or 2010).  When viewed on screen, the pdf output displays a fractured outside circle of the logo unless it is magnified quite large.  The pdf  prints out perfectly fine.  I tried upping the pdf settings in the Word output printer settings to "high quality output" and moved the dpi to the max 4000.  Still no good.  I am reluctant to start messing around with the more advanced graphics settings without some expert guidance.  Thanks for any tips.

Increasing the DPI is probably the wrong way to go. You are limited to how well Acrobat fits the pixels of the graphic to the screen. I use 300dpi by default (many folks use 600 dpi), partically because of problems that come along with the higher resolution (the factory default is 1200 dpi). The problem you may be having is more likely a result of not having selected the display preference for smooth lines and fonts. This was introduced for LCD displays which are the norm now. Give the display change a try and see if that does the job. You might also try backing off the display resolution you had set.
Another thing to consider is the use of the Press or Print job settings that embed all of the fonts. That is sometimes a problem for folks if the fonts are not embedded and the embedding is require if you do the archive.

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/acrobat/pro/using/WSb2f1a50375cd48d3-1f36d19412ada208ceb-7fff. html

Whether I save the custom settings to the "Users/[username]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings" from the PDF preferences or use Distiller to modify the settings and try to save (running distiller as administrator), I am unable to load a joboptions file.

  • How do I adjust the PDF settings on my mac?

I am having major problems learning to use my mac.
I have docs that I have edited in Word for Mac.
In windows, I used to be able to easily press Print, PDF, then choose the level of PDF I wanted.
Now. I hit print, PDF, then Save PDF As, etc.
    Result:
    1. Tells me "The borders of Section 1 are outside the printable boundaries. Do you want to continue"
I have gone back and done everything I can think of, but it still will not include a slither of the bottom portion of each page of the completed PDF. Seriously ***? Why not at least prompt me on how to fix this.
    2. The resulting PDF is 14.5 MG.  The original Word doc was weighing in at 2.5. Why is it making my doc bigger?? Despite continual searching, I can not find how I adjust the PDF settings to make it a light, emailable PDF.  If I choose Send PDF as email, the result is the same.  A big 14 MG file. This is driving me insane.
I can not now use my mac to do the most simple, yet urgently necessary task I must often do, which is create a doc, pdf it and email it.

  • Generate PDF Settings Disabled

    Hello,
I’m using RH9 on a Windows 7 64 bit machine which has Word 2010.  In addition Adobe Acrobat 9.5.2 is installed.
I’m trying to create a pdf file using the printed documentation in RoboHelp HTML.  I check off Generate Adobe PDF in the settings but PDF Settings is disabled (greyed out) and a pdf file does not get created.  I am able to create a Word file.
I can see an Adobe PDF printer installed in Printer and Devices.  I can see it and also create a pdf of a page if I choose the Adobe PDF printer from File | Print Design…  I can also generate a pdf from Review | Create PDF for Review…
However, PDF output is disabled in File | Generate and in the properties of Printed Documentation.
I have seen some other posts about similar problems but have not been able to get it to work.
Is there a way to enable pdf generation using Printed Documentation?
    Thanks
    John

You are somewhat between the devil and the deep blue sea.
I think the issue is that Acrobat 9 is not compatible with Rh9. You need to install the PDF add-on (an option when you install RoboHelp) but if you do, it will likely wipe Acrobat.
    See Item 1 at http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/rh10/using_rh10.htm
I see you are on Rh9 but I think it is the same issue. Perhaps you can check with Adobe first.

  • Unknown error - (PARM), .pdf settings and Illustrator problems

I am using Illustrator CS3, and recently I no longer had choices for .pdf settings when saving from Illustrator as a .pdf. The only setting is "Custom" and I can't scroll to another choice. As I understand it, if I load .pdf settings in Illustrator they are available in all Adobe applications (very possibly wrong about that), but when I choose Edit: Adobe  PDF Presets, I get an error message: "The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error. (PARM)". Also when I try to save an .eps file as an AI document, I get the message "An unknown error has occurred."
I have thrown away my preferences to no avail, and am afraid I am going to have to reload Illustrator CS3, which I downloaded last year and do not have the disks for, I which I am having a very hard time trying to download again. (This part I guess I have to call about).
I usually work in Quark, but recently worked in some files in InDesign, and that's when this started, I think. Perhaps a coincidence. Many thanks in advance for any help.

    AM,
Okay, so sorry. But you and Wade are official, right? Can you help point me
in the right direction for getting replacement disks for my legally
purchased software Or getting download help so that I might re-download?
We are rather unofficial natives here. You should contact Adobe Customer Support about downloading.
You should be able to get rid of the error if you Move the folder, but it is still worth having the backup, even if you upgrade.

No, there isn't. The way you're using the file is not recommended. You
should use a review tracker to avoid getting in the way of one another.

  • Some options couldn't be displayed in "Adobe PDF Settings" tab

I am using Acrobat x pro's PDF Printer, and want to deselect some options in the "Adobe PDF Settings" tab within "Adobe PDF printing preferences", but several options couldn't be display. they are
Rely On System Fonts Only; Do Not Use Document Fonts
Delete Log Files For Successful Jobs
Ask To Replace Existing PDF File
It is right with Acrobat 9.4 pro, but it is not normal with Arobat 9.4.3 or Acrobat x. How can i fix this problem?
os: Windows Server 2003 standard SP2 simplified chinese version

I believe you can set these preferences within the Distiller application.
    No you can't.
What I want is to create postscript files(.eps) and embed the fonts in
them by selecting "print to file" of PDF Printer, so I don't know
whether it works to set options in Distiller.
If you're only looking to create a PS file you can use one of the Postscript-compatible drivers that come with Windows, and set them to print to file.

  • Clarification Regarding Adobe PDF Settings

    Hi Folks,
I have a doubt regarding printer settings. I have developed a application using VC++, My application creates a new printer and it copies the default "Adobe PDF settings" of Adobe printer.
I want to change the adobe PDF Settings of my applications's printer say Eg: "View Adobe PDF Results".
Initially "View Adobe PDF Results" is in checked status in "Adobe PDF Printer" when it copies to my application's printer i need "View Adobe PDF Results" to be in unchecked status.
I have tried with Devmode2 in printer settings to make that particular field as "1" but it not working
where to change the value exactly?
How to change the UI with my own values?
    Regards,
    Nethaji.

I've seen a Microsoft article somewhere which says that
DevModes2 is for 16-bit app compatibility only
DevModePerUser seems to do the trick.
Using fairly low-level analysis, I found the "View PDF Results" was a byte at offset (decimal) 1136 (assuming beginning byte starts at 0).
So under key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\DevModePerUser  value Adobe PDF has a REG_BINARY contains a byte at the above offset which has a value of
00 = View PDF Results is OFF
01 = View PDF Results is ON
I guess the same key could be applied in HKEY_USERS\(dot)Default\...... and HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18 (LocalSystem account) for services which use Adobe PDF.
    Hope this helps.
    Best Regards

  • Cannot save Adobe PDF Settings File error

I'm using Acrobat X Pro with Windows 8. I've downloaded a .joboptions file to add to Distiller. I select Settings > Add Adobe PDF settings, browse to the file's location, select the file, and click Open.
Distiller says, "Cannot save Adobe PDF Settings File."
In the Start menu, I right-clicked Adobe Acrobat X Pro and selected Properties > Compatibility > Run this program as Administrator. It didn't help. Suggestions welcome.

I downloaded it from the linked website, and installed it successfully in Distiller 10. I don't know of a "Repair" utility for Distiller, so maybe you should uninstall and install Acrobat X in order to reinstall Distiller 10.

  • PDF Settings button disabled

Trying to created Printed Documentation in RH9, but the "PDF Settings" button is disabled on the Print Document General - Printed Documentation window (I removed the client info)
I can't figure out why I can't access this button. Anyone else run into this?

You've put me on the right track, Peter. When I first ran setup.exe in the "Adobe PDF Creation Add-On 10" folder, there was this message:
This application cannot be installed on this operating system. Setup will now terminate. Please refer to the minimum
         system requirements at http://www.adobe.com/go/acrobat_system_reqs.
I then installed Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista and ran setup.exe again:
Adobe PDF Creation Add-On X cannot be installed on its own. Please initiate the installation through the product which shipped
         Adobe PDF Creation Add-On X
I then uninstalled and reinstalled RoboHelp 9 (trial download) again. During the installation process, I could see that the PDF Add-on was being installed.
And, indeed, the Adobe PDF printer driver is now visible in Control Panel > Printers and the "PDF Settings" button is finally enabled.
Many thanks for your help, Peter !!!

  • Help! How do I remove PDF Settings??

    Hi Folks,
I need some quick help please. We've removed the default PDF settings (such as: Smallest File Size, Press Quality, PDF/X, etc.) in order to use only our custom settings for output (this is so our users don't get confused and use the wrong settings).
Removing the defaults from these two places:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Adobe PDF\Settings
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat 7.0\Distillr\Settings
works for about 3 months, then mysteriously some kind of auto-run installer asks to re-install the settings triggered by I don't know what. Our users always click yes, thus re-installing all the defaults again, and switching our default PDF setting back to "Standard".
Ack! How do I turn this auto-intall off, or disable it?
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Zak

    Hi Bill,
Thanks, but that's not an option. If the default settings are there, someone will use them, and cause a problem in our company. My boss wants there to be no other settings, and I agree.
Why doe they auto-reinstall after I delete them? they don't seems to be necessary for creating PDFs. I certainly can make a PDF without having any defaults intalled.
How do I remove them permanently? Anyone??
    Zak

  • How do I create a palette with my User Defined PDF settings?

Hello chaps and chapettes. I'm trying to use Adobe Configurator 2.0 to create a panel that has my User Defined PDF settings on it. I've found the Adobe PDF presets dropdown (which is the drop down menu where my presets would also show in InDesign) but the same menu doesn't show the User presets anywhere in Configurator.
I've found the .joboptions files in Distiller but no idea how to link it in?
I'm quite the noob so a step-by-step guide would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Distiller - Adding Adobe PDF Settings

I have created postscript files using InDesign to output to pdf format using Distiller. I have created a file with the pdf settings as required by my service provider but when I try to use the "Add Adobe PDF Settings" in Distiller I'm getting the message "Cannot save Adobe PDF settings file: C:\" followed by the location where the file is stored and "Please contact your local systems administrator."
I am the local systems administrator so I don't understand why am not allowed to add the pdf settings I've created to the list available for use in Distiller. Can anyone provide suggestions for a fix?
    Thank you in advance.

    Geo
I created the new job options from within Distiller by editing one of the standard job options files and saving it using a different name. I made sure to save the new job options file in the same folder where the standard options are saved. When I chose "add Adobe PDF settings" I navigate to that folder and select the new file but when I click "open" I get the message referenced above.
    Aandi
I also tried creating a new file by navigating to the folder where the default files are located through Windows Explorer. I opened one of the existing joboptions files, edited it and saved it using a different file name but I get the same message when I try to add that file in Distiller.

  • Lulu Publishing & Adobe PDF Settings

How do I run an existing PDF through Lulu's Adobe PDF Settings so it complies with their publishing standards?
I downloaded their Adobe PDF Settings file:
    http://connect.lulu.com/t5/Interior-Formatting/PDF-Creation-Settings-How-can-I-be-sure-my- PDF-will-print/ta-p/33681
(see Lulu Job Options at bottom)
I opened Adobe Distiller & added the Lulu Settings to the Distiller list.
    Now what?
(I asked them but I have to wait 2-4 biz days)

You can run an existing pdf file through it by re-printing it. I did it and now Lulu accepted it in their publishing wizard.
I understand now what the Distiller is and how to access the settings in the print window.
    Thanks for the help!

  • PDF Settings are defaulting to Standard

We have a system that when we select PDF settings and choose Press Quality, it always reverts to Standard. The resulting PDF file is not in Press Quality, but in Standard.
We have never seen this before. Is there some master setting that is keeping it from using the Press Quality Setting?
We have tried exporting the file to an .inx file and re-opening it, but that does not solve the problem. It happens on all files, not just some.
    Thanks,
    David

i am using the indesign cs4 and i exported the file for prepress (a magazine) in pdf press quality. when the print office analyzed it, they told me there was a problem with my images. it seemed that all the parts made of gradients (including the images) were low resolutioned during the pdf procces even if in pdf on the screen u couldnt notice it. When the image was printed it came out like dotted.
then i did a test, i exported the same file with cs3 and it didn't have this problem while its size was bigger.
this makes me turn again at cs3. so is there any option to convert into pdf files without loosing quality with indesign cs4??
