PDF / SWF reader on portal

Experts,
I'm looking for a way to embed a PDF and / or SWF reader in the portal. I'm looking for the functionality like Adobe Flashpaper is offering. I want to show some newsmagazines in the portal with the possibility to navigate through the pages, like flipping the pages.
When I just link to the pdf file the client needs to have Acrobat Reader installed. Besides that, Acrobat Reader normally has only the vertical navigation functionality, no "page flip".
Any help on this?
Regards,
Edwin van der Palen

Are you referring to Apple's iCloud service?

  • Indesign Loses Text Gradient After Export To PDF SWF

I have some Indesign files from a client and everytime I export from indesign to pdf and then convert to a swf, it removes the text gradient and adds black instead. Images attached for reference.
    <---PDF
    <---SWF
I've tried numerous export options. Is there something in particular that I'm supposed to be flattening?
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!

Hi DesPro_7, Thank you! Your answer was very helpful, and it seems to solve one of my problems, which is the same as what Franklinsdictionary describes.
I have a design using gradients in text, including a gradient effect on a rule below, used as a banner behind my text. I'm losing the gradient when the PDF is converted to SWF, and while we're working on a way to export to SWF directly from InDesign, our current workflow is cropping and optimizing a printer PDF to convert to SWF.
Before InDesign CS5, we had little trouble with transparencies, but this became an issue on our projects using CS5 or above.
Part of the optimizing process includes flattening transparencies, but text with gradients doesn't seem to flatten, nor do my banners created using rule below behind the text.
Any idea why this seems to be an issue with text? Any insight might help!

  • Error after Integrating of Xcelsius SWF into Enterprise Portal

    Hi all,
I integrated Xcelsius SWF file into portal using Business Objects Integration Kit - iView Template. I can see dashboard in Portal. Its working fine. I have Refresh Button in the Dashboard.  If I refresh the dashboard , it shows cannot access External Data. Failed to get the document information(LO26315).
How can I resolve? Help me in this regard.
I am using BOE 3.1 and LO 3.1.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Hemalatha J

With a Live Office connection, you would typically use the URL iView and the opendocument URL to integrate the dashboard into the Enterprise Portal. There are existing posts on this forum about opendocument and Xcelsius dashboards.
Obviously you need to make sure the dashboard refreshes fine outside of the portal, for instance from Infoview.
Then, you need to look at the cross domain constraints : have both Infoview and Enterprise Portal in the same domain or use crossdomain.xml. They are lots of posts on this forum about that too.

  • Can't open pdf for Reader 9.0 and above on iPad2

    Hi,
Would greatly appreciate the advice of the experts here.
My iPad2 can view most pdf documents, but when the pdf requires Reader 9.0 and above, it can't be viewed in the Reader I've installed (which is the latest version on iTunes). Here are the warning note and error message:
    Warning note:

    Hi SGckc,
This document is almost certainly a dynamic XFA form. Unfortunately, our mobile Reader does not support displaying or filling such forms. The application that produces this form embeds this message into the document so that non-supportive viewers (like ours) will display this "error" page when the document opens. I do realize that this is confusing and I would like to add some additional detection to our Reader for this case. However, we've avoided doing this for fear of confusing users even further. Your feedback helps though. Hopefully we'll find a way to detect this case and present a better message to the user like: This form is not supported by the mobile version of the Adobe Reader. Please open and fill it on the non-mobile version of the Adobe Reader for Windows, Linux or Mac OSX.
    Thank you for contacting us!

  • Error while opening pdf in reader in windows 8:Can't open this file. There's a problem with file format

I have a problem with a pdf file which does not open with reader in windows 8 but it opens properly with adobe pdf reader. All other pdf can be opened in reader. But when i open a pdf(see this link for pdf for which i got error http://incometaxsoft.com/temp/Form.pdf)
it gives error as "Can't open this file. There's a problem with file format".
The same file opens properly in adobe pdf reader. You can check the pdf file which i have mentioned in the link above. But the reader which comes with windows 8 can open some other pdf in the same PC.What may be the error causing this??

This has turned out to be an enormous issue for me as I sell PDF files as ebooks. I have done a fair amount of investigating this for my system.
My files have to be compatible not just across readers but across operating systems.
To date, I have over 200 PDFs that have functioned flawlessly across Mac, PC (Windows 7 and below), Android, iPhone/iPad, Linux.
I personally test my PDFs using a variety of readers and PDF editors including
    PDF XChange (my favorite)
Foxit (runner up for me and I recommend for most people)
    Adobe (the bloated monster)
Nitro 9 (great for moving graphical elements around)
    ABBYY
And the Nuance PDF Create toolsets
Those are off the top of my head. There are a bunch on Android that I test with too.
I am running the Windows 10 Pro Tech Preview and I have this same problem so I know it isn't fixed yet in any kind of pre-release way (-sigh-)
Here is what I've learned for my situation
The PDFs I created using NUANCE'S PDF CREATE PROFESSIONAL VERSION 8
all fail using the built-in Windows 8/10 PDF reader.
When I look at the PDF properties for these Nuance created files, the underlying engine used to write them is called "ImageToPDF". Using ABBYY it indicates their own engine as does everyone else that I've tried. It is easy for you to check to see
what created your PDF by doing a "Control D" (look at the document properties). Perhaps there's a common engine causing issues.
If I use the exact same source files to create a PDF using any of my other tools I have no issues. I checked the PDF versions made by the tools and they are all set to 1.5.
A customer mentioned being able to convert them in a way they worked by saving them without having to do any kind of extraction, but I have not been able to duplicate that. Perhaps he did a "print" which seems like it could work.
In summary, the workaround everyone is talking about, using an alternate reader, of course works. But not everyone wants to change.
The culprit I have found is my Nuance PDF Creation tools that are using the ImageToPDF engine.
I hope it gets FIXED as I really don't want to have to regenerate all of my PDF files.

  • How to allow multiple-session changes to fields in a PDF using Reader 7

    Good morning
We used Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2 to create a seminar registration form that people can download from our website.
The idea is they fill it in and email it back as an attachment.
There are some browser plug-in issues - e.g. in Internet Explorer I can fill in the form and save it to my PC, and the PDF created on my PC contains the data I entered. If I do the same thing in Firefox, the saved file is empty (the data isn't saved).
But the real problem is, if I open the PDF in Reader 9 (at work) I can fill in the form, save, re-open and make changes.
With Reader 7.0 (at home), if I enter data and save and re-open, I get a message as follows:
"The document contained certain rights to enable special features in Adobe
Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and these rights
are no longer valid. Please contact the author of the original version of this
    document."
...meaning, with Reader 7.0 I only get one chance to fill in the form.
Is there a way of creating the PDF that allow users with earlier versions of Reader to have more than one crack at it?
e.g. would saving the file for Reader version 7 solve the issue?
    thanks in advance
PS: I didn't do the form, not sure how it's done, and I don't have Reader 7 where I am now.

    CtDave wrote:
Reader enable the form then users of Adobe Reader will be able to fill in and save.
    Be well...
Shouldn't one use Acrobat to enable the form?

I am a first-time iPad owner/user. I bought a relative's original iPad. I want to leave the apps on it and add my own pdfs to read. My itunes account is really for my iPod. iTunes message says that if I "Sync" the iPad will be erase, and become like my iPods. If I make a new iTunes account, would the apps be erased when I tried to use it?
How can I just get my files onto this iPad, and still have the apps that my relative left there for me?
    Thank you.

iPads sync to 1 computer only.
All media and apps are tied to the Apple ID that purchased them.
Without your relatives ID and password, you cannot update any of the Apps.
I am pretty certain he is also violating Apples terms of service by giving you the apps.

  • Can't open libHaru-generated PDF with Reader, other readers work.

Our application uses libHaru to export PDF images.  These PDFs can be opened using PDFlite on Windows, Preview on Mac and some other readers.  However, I have tried several versions of Adobe Reader on both platforms and the files fail to open with the message: "There was an error processing a page.  There was a problem reading this document (14)."   So, it seams that Adobe Reader believes that there is problem with this file.  However, from my very limited understanding of PDF structure, I have no idea what might be wrong, so I don't know how to fix it.  The file is written unencrypted.  It is about as simple a PDF as we can generate - a red-filled rectangle.  I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or help.

  • Captivate 3: Open PDF in Reader not Browser

    Hi,
I finally got a hold of Captivate at work, only to be saddled with a somewhat older version 3... So sorry for dredging up old software...
I'm trying to open a local PDF in reader instead of in a browser and I'm just not JS savvy enough to come up with a solution, or understand how to trouble shoot the apparent solutions I've found on the Internet when they don't work. My project has to run as a standalone on a very limited system in a public workshop environment (no network or Internet access etc. hence trying to keep the user out of the browser.)
Trying to get the PDF form to save to a local drive and with a time-stamp is another issue...
...But first, does anyone have a beginners solution to getting the PDF open in Reader?
    Thanks.

    Welcome to our community
I stand to be corrected on this but I don't believe you have a choice. As I understand it, whether the PDF opens in the standalone reader or in the browser is dependent upon how it has been configured for each installation. That means each PC is likely to be different.
I might suggest you ask this question over in the Acrobat forums to confirm. I might think the question you would want to ask is this: I'm linking to a PDF from a Web Page. Can I force it to open in the reader application instead of the browser?

Please do post back here and advise what you learned!

  • Security question about opening PDFs in Reader as opposed to Standard or Professional

Our ITC wants us to open all downloaded PDFs in Acrobat Reader 9 as opposed to Acrobat 7.0 Standard. We currently have both. We download a lot of PDFs and frequently need to Reduce File Size or extract pages, etc. I am hoping to upgrade my Acrobat 7.0 Standard to Professional 9.
Is there a valid security reason to always open first in Reader? Based on what I have read Acrobat Reader 9 and Professional 9 both had security risks and it is my understanding that a patch has been released today.
Is there a security risk still for Acrobat Professional 9 and is there a security risk for Acrobat Standard 7.0? Does requiring us to download, save and open PDFs in Reader 9 first make sense from a security standpoint?
Thanks very much for any input.

I don't remember any claims that Reader was safer than Acrobat. I use Acrobat exclusively and Adobe recommends against installing both due to conflicts (they use a lot of the same files). The biggest factor to be careful about is to not open any attachments or applications that may be built in. These can be put in the PDF and both Acrobat and Reader open such tools. I would tend to question the basis for the IT folks decision, particularly based on the Adobe recommendation and problems that it creates. At least that is my opinion.

  • Static PDFs loosing reader extended rights after saving

    Hi,
    Technical information:
LiveCycle 7.0 (which came with Acrobat Professional)
    ARES 7.0
    Reader 7.0.0, 7.0.1 and 7.0.2
    Windows 2000
PDF Static file type (as we are not dynamically adding/removing document objects)
    Scenario:
PDF contains javascript to change the background and border colour of form fields (e.g. node.fillColor = '255,255,170' changed to '192,192,192') to denote enabled/disabled fields.
PDFs are reader extended, so, user should be able to enter and save data on the documents multiple times.
    Problem:
Reader extension rights of PDFs were lost. For example, in Reader, open document, update/enter data, save, and close. Do this multiple times and make sure one of the form fields background colour changes. When the document is re-opened its reader extension privileges are lost and user is no longer able to update/enter data on the document.
This worked with our pilot forms (using AcroForm and ARES 6.0)
    ADOBE Explanation:
The underlying XFA document is changed when the form field's background property was changed, hence, it is no longer a static form and its reader extended rights has changed.
    Resolution:
PDF's file type changed from Static to Dynamic. Some logically driven functions will have to be changed/duplicated (e.g. calling enabling/disabling function(s) from the documents' docReady event).
Have to use Reader 7.0.2 to be able to open, update, save, and close document multiple times without loosing reader extended rights.
    Hope this helps others
    Regards
    Jen

Is there any limitation when you apply reader extension rights to the Dynamic PDF form
FOr static forms , I was able to submit the form in XDP format with PDF embedded in it.
THe same thing is not working for Dynamic PDF forms
