  • Pdf sync across devices does not work

is anyone experiencing problems with syncing PDF files across devices? My PDFs are not the same across the 3 devices I use.

So I managed to solve this Problem.
First: Be patient in itunes, as it takes some amount of time for changes to show up there. (after 10s it should be there - I also closed the applications quite often.)
Second make a backup of your calendars in the calendar app - you should have a file with a icbu-ending that contains your data. It's most likely you won't lose data.)
do a filesystemrepair on the basic level - reboot and hold cmd + s to boot into single user mode and type in fsck -fy and wait for your mac to finish the filesystem repairs (if there were any errors to be corrected.)
Reboot and do a parameter reset hold down cmd + option + p + r and wait for the second startup sound.
Turn on iCloud-sync for my calendar within OS X (Mountain Lion 10.8)
Turn on iCloud-sync on my iPad (iOS 5.1.1)
Turn iCloud-sync off on both devices and swipe both calendars. (On my iPad it went through right away - only birthdays from Contacts left. - On the Calendar-App in OS X I had leftovers.)
Checked my Calendar-app and deleted all leftovers and closed Calendar. - I repeted this step a few times until iTunes would only show me one last calendar named "Calendar")
I confirmed that i was close by creating a new test-calendar in the calendar-App named test which showed up in iTunes (Hurra!)
I restored my calendars with the import-function in the calendar-app.
    I cleaned up duplicate Google-Webcals.
I synced the calendar with iTunes AND replaced the entries on my iPad.
I synced with my iPhone AND replaced the entries there as well.
I did a last sync with my idevices.
Poooh. Thanks half a day later I'm back to normal. Calendars showing up again on my mac and my iDevices.

  • Pdf sync after restore...

I am trying to sync my pdfs after an itunes restore.
When I check "Sync" at books tab I get the message that the ipad is synced with another library and it will be erased.
If I coninue will all stuff be erased or just ibooks app data (whick is empty anyway).
Its a fresh restore after ios update from 4x to 5.1.1 ( its an ipad1).
    Thanks.

Also I am trying to retrieve the list of some pdf files I didnt backup.
For these I only have the itunes backup folder.
Is purchases.plist stored in the itunes backup?
What about ibooks.plist (actually is this plist still used, and if yes, where is it located in ios fs?)

  • Ibooks and pdf sync

Will ibooks sync a pdf I save on the iPad or iPhone to iBooks on my Mac?
Not a purchase throught he store?

If you connect your iPad or iPhone to your Mac and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases then they should copy over (Transfer Purchases should copy PDFs and epubs that are in the iBooks app on the device, not just actual ibooks) - in iBooks on your Mac you might then need to to do File > Move Books From iTunes to move them over to it.

  • PDFs no longer work with iTunes and sync to iBooks

First off, the "Books" tab in the iPad/iPhone sync panel is woefully light. There need to be options to de/select all, organize by more than title/author, etc. That's a UI issue, not a bug, but worth mentioning.
However, I'm finding that PDF syncing to iOS devices is now broken alltogether. (Yes, it used to work for me)
When the Media Kind of the PDFs are set to "Book", they show up in the "Books" section of iTunes as expected, as well as the default list of available books for syncing in the iPad/iPhone Book sync panel. Oddly, they do not show in the list when "PDFs only" is selected from the pulldown list, and most importantly, they do NOT sync to iBooks on my iPad/iPhone.
(When the Media Kind of the PDFs is set to "Music", they do not show up in any lists.)

Me TOO: Since I updated iTunes to Version 8.1 I am unable to sync my Nano Generation 4. It gives an error message 'iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close'. I have been to the Apple Store twice, first time they restored my iPod and said it would be OK - it wasn't. Then they gave me a new iPod and said it would be OK - it wasn't. I don't think its the iPod!! I believe it is Version 8.1 as this issue only once I upgraded to the latest version.
I have removed and reinstalled iTunes and even tried to download an earlier version. Nothing works...
I am now left with a brand new iPod that I am unable to use!!!

I have a PC desktop and an iPad.  I have a large library of PDF documents on my desktop that I would like to sync with my iPad.  I would like to be able to download new PDF's and make edits on existing PDF's on either device and have those edits and new PDFs synced to the other device.  I would also like to have my library available on the iPad even if there isn't a wifi connection (i.e., not on the cloud).  Is that possible.  I don't mind if I have to purchase a separate product or a product upgrade ect.

You can't use an external hard drive like you would with a computer.
You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)
When you first connect the USB flash drive, you will only see thumbnails of the pics on the iPad; you have to import the pic file to see the full size. With your large library of pics, you will have to do this repeateably and then delete pics so you don't exceed your memory capacity.

  • HT204365 PDF's will not sync.

I Transfered everything to new IPhone but can't get the PDF's in IBooks to copy over.

My PDFs used to sync perfectly (I think before Apple changed the system and involved iBooks)...
Now all kinds of erratic behaviour - latest problem is that my PDFs synced but into wrong collection on iPhone.

  • HT5826 how to sync pdf file between iOS and mac

I tried to sync pdf files stored in iBook on my iPad with the iBook on my iMac, but not all the docuemnts are viewable in iBook on iMac and viceversa.
    Which is the reason?
    Please let me know
    Thanks
    Luca

I suspect that you haven't synced your iPad with your Mac. iBooks does not "push" new additions to its library automatically, like iCloud does; you must sync your iPad, either with a USB cable, or over WiFi, to have the PDFs sync. Make sure the PDFs are selected in iTunes too.

  • How to sync pdf in ibooks

    Hello,
This should be simple, but somehow it doesnt work for me: When copying pdf in ibooks, and organising them into collections, the pdfs are not synced between my different apple devices. The collections are synced, but only the titles, without the pdfs in it!
What am I doing wrong or is there a way to enable pdf syncing in ibooks between different devices?
    Thanks a lot
    Christian

PDF's won't sync, only purchases from the store will do that.

  • Can I sync iBook PDFs between devices via cloud

I have iPad 2 and iPhone 4s. Both ios5. I have many PDFs in iBook.  Is there a way to keep the PDFs synced between the two through the cloud?
I assume I can do this in iTunes on the PC, but I'd like them to sync up automatically.  When I add a doc on the iPhone I'd like it to show up on the iPad.
    These are not purchased docs.
    Any way to do this?

    +1
I'm having the same problem.  I purposefully have syncing turned off in iTunes and have everything syncing through iCloud.  Books (free or otherwise) purchased through the iBook store sync between iPhone, iPad, etc. just fine -- but pdfs aren't doing this.
Interestingly, if I manually download the same pdf to both devices, it DOES keep track of where I left off.  i.e. I start reading a pdf on the iPad and it opens to the same page when I look at it on the iPhone...

  • Aperture and Sync

I have read some of the posts but they don't seem to work. I just bought a 16 G iPad and am trying to sync my photos. For example, I have some pics called Twins. ( my new twin girls). There are 300 pics of them. When I sync, only three show up on the iPad. The three that show up are scans from the ultra sounds not camera generated pictures. This also happens when I use my iWeb account when setting up a web page using photos from Aperture. Other picture lists work fine and some don't. I tried moving the scanned pics to a different list but then I get 0 on the twins lists.
The reason I bought this iPad was basically for the pics of my twins. It makes beautiful slide shows but unfortunately not of my new arrivals.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    Rob

    Hi Rob,
    Congrats on your twins!
Might be an image format issue.
See page 48 of the iPad User Guide available here. http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPad_UserGuide.pdf
    "Syncing Photos with Your Computer
*iPad supports standard photo formats such as JPEG, TIFF, GIF, and PNG.* You use iTunes
to sync photos to iPad. When syncing photos to iPad, iTunes automatically creates a
size optimized for iPad, if necessary. See “Syncing with iTunes” on page 28.

This also happens when I use my iWeb account when setting up a web page using photos from Aperture.
Try posting in the iWeb Forum for help with that.

  • Pdfs moved in file structure

So i updated my OS to mavericks because my brother said it was ok, even after i had read some poor reviews in the app store. My issue is that after the update happened and i opened ibooks my os has seemingly w/o asking first, took all epubs and moved them into some hidden folder, renamed them, and deleted the old versions, and even did this with some pdf books i had. is there any way to turn this functionality off? i just want to have my epubs/pdfs back where they were with the names they used to be

sberman, many people are unhappy with what the new iBooks has done. We were happy with our books being in the iTunes Library, especially those of us who store their books and music on external drives or NAS, and controlling book/pdf syncing via iTunes.
In order to use iBooks, it wants the PDFs and epubs brought onto the local disk which is completely unacceptable for a lot of us. Also, the renaming of epubs is then forcing a reliance upon the iBooks database and UI to know which book is which. All in all, not nice.

  • Remove "old" PDFs from iTunes: iBook Duplicates

    Hi everyone,
I did my researcher and tinkered with it, but I can't find out how to fix this. I guess now PDFs sync through iTunes from iBooks to iOS devices. Well, I had several PDFs from the pre-Mavericks era in iTunes ("iTunes Media" >"Books" folder).
Well I imported my PDFs into iBooks so that I could start adding new and managing them, but now all my devices have duplicates showing in iTunes (in the books tab when I select a device) and it tries to sync the old and new. I deleted the Books folder from iTunes Media, but it still attempts to sync those books and I get an error "can find file" when I sync, but most annoying of all is that on the books tab there is duplicates of all the PDFs that [I]were[I] in the old "books" folder and now in iBooks.
How can I get iTunes to delete and "forget" the old PDFs without restoring my device?

    Hey Jac151,
I also had the same problem...and heres the only solution I found. Take a look at this website: http://thetechgears.com/how-to-completely-reset-itunes-11-playlist-and-library-a nd-start-fresh/
It will reset your itunes library, and you will have to scan for media files to import all your stuff again (songs & movies). For mobile apps, your need to go to icloud to download them again. Its a huge long process, but it was the only way that would reset the way it viewed my pdfs in iBooks. Good luck!

  • Chasing arrow near pdf

    Hi,
I think I have a problem with iTunes (latest version) and PDF sync with iPad 2.
If I rename a pdf in itunes, and then sync, the file is NOT updated in ibooks on the ipad, and if I browse the ipad contents from itunes, I see "chasing arrows" near these pdf files (but no activity!).
Is there any workaround except deleting everything and restoring?

    Hi William,
It's a real shame that this issue isn't going to be resolved soon.
For some of our work, we're planning to Reviewer to create the PMI and issue to be read as pdf.
The lack of arrow heads is not a job-stopper for us, but it's the first thing people notice!
'Spoiling the ship for a halfpenny of tar' is a phrase that springs to mind (although I guess the software cost to include the arrow heads in the conversion will cost more than a halfpenny!).
    cheers,
    Ian

  • Launching rsynced file

Have just been experinenting with rsyncing MYOB data files via ssh.
Got the rsync happening but on the receiving drive when I launch the file the application (MYOB ) doesn't recognise the file and launches to its open file dialog.
    PDFs sync fine.
Is there a parameter I'm missing in rsync ? I'm using -avzP -e
    Kind Regards
    Eric

    Hi Foilpan
    Thank you...Gold stars.
I had tried -E but stuck it in place of my -e which affected the ssh not the rsync.
tacked it onto rsyncs paramters and away we went. Interestingly in verbose it reports two files as being synced. The missing resource I suspect.
Re make command. I thought that might be the case. I have the dev tools installed but on the staff mac minis I just run a basic SOE up. I'm assuming that placing the binary in usr/local/bin did the job.
So good to have this running. I can script it now and run regular updates since MYOB have never really got their act together on a multi user version that works and have abandoned all attempts.
    Kind Regards
    Eric
