PDF text editable with Acrobat, Get it to InDesign?

I recently suffered the loss of my external hard drive.  I messed up big time.  I only have a pdf of my portfolio.  I need to do some updates and I noticed a few typos is there a way to to edit and add text? When I edit it in Acrobat the font is darker, because the opacity is altered on the original text. So the result is the new text really standing out.  Not great to highlight the addition of commas...
Is there any hope? Or am I doomed?

Place it in Indesign. If it's editable, great, if not, cover up the errors and make new elements to patch in.

  • PDF Documents compatible with Acrobat Reader 5.0

Which version (Standard, Pro or Ext Pro) of Adobe Acrobat 9.0  family should I buy to create PDF documents compatible with Acrobat Reader 5.0 ????
Is it possible to create PDF files from HTML and navigate through the links ????
    Thank you.

    Thank you for your answer.
Related to my first question (compatibility with Acrobat Reader 5.0), how should I save the PDF created ????  Saving the PDF in Acrobat Pro 9.0 with standard save option makes the document not readable by Acrobat Reader 5.0.
Should I save the document as PDF/A, PDF/X or any other subset ?????  If so, I'm not sure if they are included in the Standard.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Does only Adobre Reader "reads" the fields of a PDF when created with Acrobat?

I created a PDF with several fields and exported it.
Then I tried to open it with Firefox and the fields didn't appear.
But it works OK with Adobe Acrobat.
Does only Adobre Reader "reads" the fields of a PDF when created with Acrobat?

Adobe software reads form fields. The rules for how to do form fields are a part of the PDF standard (a book available to anyone) but some companies ignore it and others do half a job. To be safe, use only Adobe Reader. And beware of browsers that ignore Adobe Reader even if you have it.

  • Exporting PDF to Word with Acrobat 8 - Does this work?

Has anyone had any success with a decent export-to-Word using Acrobat 8 (from CS3)?
Acrobat 7 is worthless for this. I suspect the woeful results have much to do with how the PDF was made. If it came from InDesign or Illustrator, and has layers, that will no doubt flummox wonky old Word.
Or, is it the wonky "export to Word" function that's wonky? I see there is also "Export to RTF" which is much the same file format as .doc. You get exactly the same crazy results.
Here at my job, they have determined the best way to get a decent Word doc out of what we're publishing is to export each individual text box from InDesign as "RTF". Then open word and wrangle all the bits.
This is time consuming and senseless - certainly the technology exists to convert PDFs to Word cleanly and perfectly.
Or ... is Adobe just telling us, by quietly setting us up to fail, that we shouldn't be using Word at all? So they're not going to bother to make this work?
Sadly, at my gig, we need to do this. Our clients are dinosaurs, and the average T-Rex is deathly afraid of Acrobat Reader and PDFs.

< Frankly, I don't really give a lot of thought to employers who refuse PDFs for graphic design positions. It's like asking me to retouch a photo using MacPaint.>
A resume is a document, not a design sample. A lot of employers do not want "designed" resumes at all. They want simple searchable text resumes. Even using special formatting features in Word can mess up their processes. HR departments could care less how pretty it is, all they want is data. You'll need to impress the design manager at the interview, after HR has passed it on. Even the hiring manager may find a highly designed resume to be annoying and difficult to read.
Of course if that's not where you want to work, that's up to you, but you might be turning down excellent design positions by insisting they accept things your way instead of doing things their way! ;-)

  • Yosemite crippled PDF text annotation with Preview.

In previous versions of preview, you used to be able to select 'textbox' markup tool and one-click create textboxes wherever you want on a pdf. Now, with the new Yosemite, selecting 'text' markup tool  creating a textbox in the middle of the screen, not where-ever you click. This cripples the productivity of annotating lecture slides during a lecture. I don't want my text box to always appear right in the middle of the page- I want to click to place it.
Also, why is it vertically center justified- who, EVER, used vertically center justified text rather than vertically top justified text?
    Are there anyways around this?

The link below provides instructions for annotating a pdf in Yosemite Preview, and additional links at the bottom of this page provide instructions for several other pdf editing capabilities:
Select and copy text in a PDF
Fill out and sign PDF forms
Add, delete, or move pages in a PDF
    Crop or rotate a PDF

  • Word Doc Header Text Disappearing with Acrobat plugin

    Hi,
I have a Word document with a header containing a graphic and text.  When I use the Acrobat plug-in to create a PDF, the text does not display in the PDF, only the graphic.  The graphic is a banner with text over it.
    I have tried
Putting the text in as normal header text, within a text box, and within a table.
Sending the graphic to back and the text to front in Word.
The Print to PDF feature creates the header perfectly with the text over the graphic.  However that feature does not allow me to create hyperlinks in the PDF for my table of contents, so is not the solution to my problem.  (And honestly is just making me more crazy knowing it CAN work!)
An earlier version of this document did not have the same problem (I created a PDF from it several months ago, but recently updated the document - but not the header).  Now, when I open the January version of the doc and create a PDF, the header is missing the text.
To my knowledge, I have not changed any settings in the Acrobat Plug-in Preferences or updated Word or the Acrobat plug-in since January.
Does anyone have any insight into why this might happen?
    Thanks,
    Jane

I was having the same issue on  a large document, and deleting the objects wasn't an option. I discovered that unchecking Enable Accessibility and Reflow with tagged Adobe PDF on the Settings tab of the Acrobat PDFMaker Preferences menu solved the problem. My text boxes with fill color now show both the color and the text. (I'm running Word 2010 and Acrobat 11 Pro.)
I'm not sure I fully understand the functionality of the option I unchecked, but it does tag the document in the conversion process, which I prefer. But adding tags something that is easy to do once the document is created. If this is the best workaround, I'll take it, though it seems to be a bug in the Acrobat plug-in, since this didn't happen with the same document with the same settings previously. (I even tested on a Word document I have made no changes to and had created a PDF earlier. Sure enough, I recreated the behavior.)

  • Missing words creating PDF with Acrobat 7 (newly installed InDesign CS5)

Since a few days I have some curiosity creating PDF files!
Randomly the PDF output is missing whole words in the document but having spares in the right tracking for them in the document.
It occurs that the missing words are subject to another font however not all words in this font are missing in the document.
Also my printer tell's me if he's going to print the PDF (in this case a serial letter with pre-stamped addresses) his computer is breaking down completely and also printing hieroglyphs.
This document was printed from MS Word 2003 with "Adobe PDF" as printer.
I also use FreePDFXP, though the same error comes up.
In addition I tried several settings for the PDF with no effect in the outcome.
I am still working with Acrobat 7 (from CS2 suite) under WinXP Professional SP3 and hadn't any problems before installing my InDesign CS5 upgrade a few days ago.
I only can assume that the problem is InDesign CS5 but cannot prove it.
Anyone an idea on how to solve the problem?!
I am really annoyed about this since for the pre-stamped letters I already paid money to the mail service and the need to be in the mail today - otherwise I am loosing several 100 Euros to the paper-bin).

    Thanks for your feedback.
However I checked all the settings in the joboptions. All fonts are to be embedded (100%) and I also actively selected the fonts to be transferred.
I am using TheSans from LucasFonts as Open Type.
For my document I have SemiLight as standard style and Bold for accentuation.
While the bold style will be printed in "bold only" lines, it is not printed in lines/paragraphs where also the SemiLight style is used.
When I change color of the words in bold, the effect inverts and only the bold style words are displayed but not the SemiLight text!
I have a second laptop with the same system and software configuration (Win XP Professional SP3; Acrobat 7), where the same document runs smoothly.
That's why I assume, that it must be the Indesign CS5 upgrade causing trouble (it's the only new addition to the first laptop).
Unfortunately Adobe has no answer here also.
The only solution would be to adopt my documents for this effect and follow the logic of the machine instead of my mind...
As we do so often since invention of computers...

  • PDF text editing

How can I remove underscore from existing text when replacing pdf text?

That's not quite true. If you have Acrobat Pro XI and the font used is
editable you can easily remove the underscore from the text using the Edit
Text & Images tool. Simply select the underscored text and then click the
underline button under "Format" on the right.

  • Opening .pdf web documents with Acrobat XI Standard

After installing Acrobat XI, when I click the hyperlink "view" for .pdf statements in either of my two brokerage company accounts, or click on a hyperlink to open a .pdf document in a web document, the .pdf gets downloaded but not opened.  So I have to view .pdf documents from my "Downloads" folder, rather than having them simply open in a new page or tab when I click on them.  (The new tab either quickly disappears or stays open, but is blank.  Only the Download location works to open the .pdf file.)  I don't know whether this is an Adobe issue with Acrobat XI or something else causing my computer not to open the .pdf files.  I am running Acrobat XI Standard in the Windows Vista Home Premium OS on a Gateway GT5678 PC.

Many thanks for the quick response, Bill. On your hunch that the browser
might make a difference,  I tried clicking on the same sites' .pdf files in
Chrome and IE, rather than my normal Firefox browser. They opened on-screen
without a problem.  Looks like I may have a Java plugin problem in Firefox,
rather than an AA XI issue.  Also looks like Windows Vista supports AA XI
    without a problem.

  • Trying to create a text item with a scroll bar in Indesign 5.5

Is there a simple way to create a scrollable text article in Indesign 5.5? It will later be exported to a SWF as a mini-flash web portfolio.
    I would appreciate any help.
    I'm new to Indesign.

Do you mean a text box people can type in (for a Web form
entry) or one for displaying your content?
If the first, then you use the textarea tag and scrollbars
appear when the user types more lines that you specify. See the
    textarea

If the second, then that's usually done in Flash, but can be

  • Gray becomes green when a Adobe 8.1.0 PDF is printed with Acrobat 9 Pro ...?

    Hello,
when the PDF file which was created with Adobe 8.1 is printed with Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro the gray is as it should be.
If the same file is printed to the same printer (same settings) with Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro on another Workstation in the same office the gray becomes kind of green.
I noticed the grayscale Option in the Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro was set to Dot Gain 20% instead of Gray Gamma 2.2, so i changed it but the gray still gets printed as a green.
I really would appreciate any help!

    Martha:
Acrobat 9 installation is fraught with problems. All four writers who tried to install it at one customer location had problems getting the A'9 to work properly after installation -- and the problems were all slightly different.
And so too were the responses given by Adobe support. In one case A'Support recommended running a cleanup tool, in one case it insisted that the program should install with the same serial number as the Tech Comm Suite that putatively includes A'9, and in another case it simply "punted" and gave the I.T. folks a new, separate serial number to circumvent the otherwise unresolvable installation problems.
Apparently we can add sending people with A'9 problems to the FrameMaker forum to that list...
    Cheers & hope this helps,
    Riley

  • Landscape pages in Word revert to portrait in PDF when converted with Acrobat 9.

My work group is using the PDF-T-Maker plugin to convert Word docs to PDF through Acrobat 9 Pro Extended. Lately, all the landscape pages have reverted to portrait in the conversion, but only for me. Everyone else in my group is  getting correct layout when they run the same process on the same docs. Today, I completely uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat, then installed the updates (I'm on v.  9.3.1), but I've still got the same issue. I've checked the settings in Acrobat, Distiller, the PDF printer, and T-Maker, and I  think they're correct. Shots of the Distiller and T-Maker settings are below. Any ideas about what's going on?

Looks like you have A4 pages. I would copy the PDF and then rotate the landscape pages (or portrait) individually (use the tools, not the view rotation) and then do the save to DOC or DOCX. That might do what you want. I would have expected it to notice the orientation, but I guess not. You did not mention the version of Acrobat. If you have not done the updates, you may want to do those first. Your issue may have been address with the updates.

  • Support for PDF form editing in Acrobat Pro XI and futire versions?

Will Adobe Professional continue to support the creation and editing of PDF forms after Forms Central? Can I import my Forms-Central PDF forms into Acrobat XI? What are the plans for future versions of Acrobat Pro - any cancellations planned for forms-features?

    >. I understand that this LifeCycle Reader Extensions allows for such a result
    That's correct.
    >but I have not clue how to add this funtionality to my already created PDF?!?
LiveCycle Reader Extensions is a product. You buy it. Note that the
price is "on application" and varies with your company's needs, but is
typically either tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars. This is to
offset the "lost sales" of Acrobat which people would otherwise have
    to buy to save forms.
    > I have downloaded the trial version Adobe LifeCycle Designer 7.1 (which appears to have full functionality for only 60 days)in hopes to just add this capability
There are many products with LiveCycle in the name from Adobe. That's
    a different one.
