PDF text pages in iPhoto books

I'm not sure that this is a problem. I just want reassurance before I click the ORDER BOOK button and buy the iPhoto book I have created.
I have imported PDF pages of text into the book, as I was able to get more control over the text layout that way. However, when I proof a PDF-text page, it looks more blurry and pixellated than standard, typed-on-the-page text, as if the resolution is not quite so high. It is perfectly legible, just a shade less sharp.
Is this likely to be a resolution matter with my printer, or will the text be marginally more blurry in the printed book's PDF pages, too? If blurry is the answer, is there anything I can do before ordering the book to get the text looking just as sharp on the PDF pages as on the non-PDF, direct-to-page, text?
Many thanks in advance.

In PS under Edit->Color Settings Working Spaces set Grayscale to Dot Gain 20% and set the RGB menu to sRGB IEC61966-2.1. This is for future uses.
Now open each file in PS CS2 from withing iPhoto, go to the Image->Mode menu and select RGB. Save the changes, Command+S, and that's it. The photo will then appear normally in iPhoto.
Here's how to use Photoshop from within iPhoto:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
If you ever do any scanning of B/W photos always scan as color.

How can I change the text in an Iphoto book I'm trying to create from Spanish to English??

In the Creative Cloud Application you can change in Preferences the App language. Then you can download and install additional the other language.
With Photoshop you can now go to Preferences > User Interface and switch between all installed and available languages.

Aperture can't do anything with PDF files (apart from render the first page into an image file).
But you can add a text page to one of your Aperture book layouts very easily:
    1. Add a new page.
    2. Delete any existing photo and metadata boxes.
    3. Add text boxes as needed.

  • How do you write (large) texts in an iPhoto book?

I am making an Iphoto book and want some of the pages to be dedicated to large texts. The only problem is that when I press the text box and start writing, I can't actually see what I am writing. Then if I click away I can see the text I have written. If I click the box again, and start writing again (without being able to see anything written), I write from the beginning, not from where I finished the previous writing. Plus, I can't delete the text if I make a mistake.

If the test library worked at it should with the book text then you need to repair your original library. Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1 if needed.

  • Printing the PDF file of your iPhoto book

I am having a problem printing my saved PDF file. It comes out like the image was dragged across the page diagonally. I can print the file from Preview ok. Any ideas as to what is going on? Other PDF files - non iPhoto- print fine. Do I need yo worry about this for my book purchase as I understand it is via a PDF file?

    Hi Lady Jane K,
Just experienced the very same problem, printing a PDF file created from iPhoto and viewed and printed from Adobe Reader 7.0.8.
Then I opened the PDF file from the Preview application and the printing now looks much better!
It seems that we have to print from the Preview app.
Did you print from Adobe Reader when having the problem?

  • I hit vertical text in my iPhoto Book and now I can't change it back, help!!

I am creating an iPhoto Book, and wanted some vertical text, so I highlighted my text and selected "vertical". It didn't go vertical, but now any time I highlight any text I can't see it, and I can't change the setting back, nor can I find any help anywhere on this topic. Please help!!

This may have helped iTunes (it can see the iPhoto library - not sure if it could before, hadn't tested it).  iMovie still doesn't see the library though.  Instead, it sees a library on the internal disk with nothing in it -- there's actually no library there.  iMovie shows the external disk, but does not show an iPhoto library on it.
    Thanks for your reply!

  • How do I find the 'invisible' pdf file of the iphoto book?

    Hi!
Under Panther, there was a technique for finding the pdf file that iPhoto created of the book that was sent to be printed. Since I last tried this technique, I upgraded both machine and system. Now the technique doesn't work. At least I can't find the right pdf file, anywhere.
Has Apple changed how it creates the iphoto books? Is there a new way of naming the resulting pdf files? I'd like to check the file before ordering the book.
    Thanks!

    Try this way:
How to Find the iPhoto Generated PDF File:
1 - Start the ordering process and stop after the book has been assembled.
2 - Since Spotlight cannot find and display invisible files it is difficult to locate the iPhoto generated pdf file. I use the application Kilometre, which does show invisible files, to locate and copy the PDF file to the desktop. You can also use a 3rd party application like Cocktail or TinkerTool to make all invisible file visible for this purpose but don't forget to make them invisible again after you're done.
3 - The file will be located in your HD/private/var/tmp/folders.501/TemporaryItems/iPhoto folder. You can then Option-drag it to the desktop to get a copy of it.
4 - Preview the PDF file and then, if satisfactory, you can continue with the ordering process.
Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

  • Finding Hidden PDF files created by iPhoto/Book

early last year there was a discussion concerning the hidden high res pdf files created by Book in iPhoto. I've searched for it with no luck. I want to use the pages I create in Book for Quicktime Slideshows, as I did then. Is this still possible with iPhoto 6 and if so does anyone know where they are hidden now? I did right click on the book and save a pdf of the book but the res does not seem very high.

It's been a while since you guys were on this topic, but here's my 2 cents.
Wanting to see a PDF of my book to check on some text wrap issues, I did click "buy now" last night and cancelled as soon as the book was done assembling and iPhoto started the upload. Didn't receive an e-mail thanking me for my order, so I figured things were fine.
This morning, I discovered a "pending transaction" to Apple on my bank account, and I am currently waiting to see if it will actually go through or not. When calling Apple Customer service, they told me my credit card was probably "pinged" because the order was started, but the charge may "fall off" because the upload was aborted. If I wanted to know for sure, I had to e-mail iPhoto support (calling wasn't possible), and could expect a response within 48 hrs. Well, within that time frame I will be able to see for myself what happens with that charge, but in the meantime the amount is deducted from my balance. So for anyone out there wondering what happens when you click "buy now," there you go.
The good news is, I did get the desired PDF file. I compared it with the file that "File>Print" generates and the only differences I see in a quick comparison are:
    - File>Print does not include the blank pages (inside covers and back page), so I end up with 55 pages instead of 58, and the file size is slightly smaller (46.6MB compared to 47.2MB)
    - File>Print's PDF shows 792x612 dimensions (under "get info"), compared to Buy Now's 797.76001 x 617.76001. I have no idea what that is about. Maybe a bleed or something?
    Hope this helps someone.

  • How do you change the color of the text in an iPhoto book?

I am creating a photo book and the text seems to be gray. How can I change it to another color?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Select the text in the book and type Command+T. That will bring up the font pane where you can click on the T box with the color square in it. Click on the color square to bring up the color wheel and select the text color you want. You can use it to change other font attributes as well.

  • Difficulty editing text in iPhoto book project.  I add a page layout with text, but can't edit the text box., Difficulty editing text in iPhoto book project.  I add a page layout with text, but can't edit the text box.

I'm am having difficulty editing text in the iphoto book project.  I have a text box that is pre-populated with text.  I can edit the text once, then if I need to change something, it won't let me delete anything, only add to it.  Anyone else having this problem?
    Thanks!

You should be able to double click in the text box and add or delete text. First  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If that doesn't help launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos, create a book  and check to see if the same problem persists. Post back with the results.

  • The best PDF choice for sending pages to iPhoto?

For years I used InDesign (CS3) to design pages for iPhoto books. I simply used the "Save as PDF for iPhoto" choice in the InDesign print dialog box and, presto, the pages appeared in my iPhoto library, ready for insertion. However, when I switched to Snow Leopard, new security features disabled the PDF choices in the InDesign print dialog box. Adobe's workaround is to export the InDesign page as a PDF to the desktop, open the PDF up using Apple's Preview, and send the PDF to iPhoto from there. Works like a charm. However, when I export the page out of InDesign to the desktop, the Export Adobe PDF dialog box offers me several choices of PDF presets and here is where I get confused. The best two choices appear to be "High Quality Print" (supposedly for desktop inkjet printers) or "Press Quality." When I compare them on the screen, the "HIgh Quality Print" PDF looks superior--my black and white images have snappier contrast and rich whites and blacks. However, the "Press Quality" PDF, while flatter, retains more information in the shadows and highlights and, who knows, maybe Apple's printing presses favor this for a superior outcome. Anyway, calls to Apple yielded contradictory recommendations. Anyone have any experience or insight as to which PDF setting would be best? Thank you.

I use goodreader, which is fairly good, and alows for folder creation.
In my quick, unscientific test, just now with a 60+ page pdf with lots of graphics in it, if you spend more than a second or two on a single page, the next one displays right away. If you try to swipe through a bunch in a row, really fast, you get the checkerboard pattern until the new page loads.
AS you are looking at sheet music, this would work as you would definately be staying on a single page for a 1/2 minute or more (dpeending on the tempo of course).
I would still google for sheet music apps that might be more of what your looking for. A coworker (thats left for the weekend already) has sheet music on his ipad and I can ask on Monday what he prefers.
    Till then
