PDF, TIFF, JPG, what should I format it as?

Ok. I am a student and I just picked up my books for the coming year. Wow, are they heavy.
This may sound like a big undertaking, but I was thinking, why not scan all of the pages I will need into my computer, so I can leave the book at school? (I'll ask my teachers what chapters we will need).
1. How would I go about doing thisS? Should I use a digital camera or should I scan each page in?
2. What shoud I format them as? PNG? How would I go about doing this? Keep in mind I would like to keep each chapter together and easily switch pages.
3. Anything else I'm forgetting?
I really appreciate your help. I know it may seem like quite a question, but I really do want to do this. Thanks!

DigiCam would probably be faster than scanning, since there's little wait between pictures and flipping the pages will be much easier. The downside of course is quality and readability unless you put the camera on a tripod at fixed focus.
For better results, though it will be substantially slower and more involved, particularly if you're going to be doing a lot of pages, you could scan the files. If you wanted to be able to search the text, save as PDF and run each page through OCR software. Otherwise, you could save as .jpg (or perhaps .png) which will usually be smaller.
Note: An OCRed pdf will be much smaller than a non-OCRed pdf because the data is text, rather than graphic, but the OCR process also adds to the processing time of each page.
In keeping chapters together, you can create multi-page pdfs or, if you choose to use an image format, name the files sequentially and file into folders for each book and chapter.

If you're going to use it only with Macs, use Mac OS Extended (Journaled). It's the fastest filesystem to use on Macs.
If you're going to use it with PCs and Macs, use exFAT or FAT. I recommend exFAT because it hasn't got limitations as FAT and it's faster, but you need Windows XP Service Pack 3 or later to use it on PCs

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

I am new into the Apple Community. I have a camcorder known as the JVC GZ-HD40 US and I currently am trying to use iMovie 2009 to edit my movies. With my camcorder, I have the choice to use two different video formats: AVCHD or Mpeg2. All my videos are shot in the AVCHD (HD) file format. This camcorder also has a 120 G Hard Drive built into it. When I plug in the camcorder through USB to my MacPro, the Hard Drive of the camcorder shows up as a icon on the desktop. Many of my video clips are at least thirty minutes in length, inside the camcorder. When I try to import in iMovie my video files, it only imports around ten minutes of the video and skips to the end of the clip. I would greatly prefer to use my MacPro desktop to edit movies instead of my Windows 7 computer which seems to work fine. Is there a solution to this problem? Would the new iMovie 2011 application solve this problem? I also have the Final Cut Express to work with, and also, can't get it to work. What should I try doing?

I have the exact same problem. I've just been to Thailand with my girlfriend, and we recorded a lot of stuff with my brand new Sony HD camcorder. And whenever the we ran out of camcorder memory we just emptied everything onto my HP laptop using the supplied Sony software, which produced m2ts files. When we got home, I realized that my Mac Pro/iMovie09 was not able to import this format. What a huge disappointment! Especially considering the fact that I just bought my mac back in March (my first mac ever) only for video editing and music composing (no problems with music composing, however!).
Well, I needed a solution, so last week I just bought the Voltaic HD converting software (35$), and it works great. No problems. Only thing is that my Mac Pro (quad intel core) had to work 24 hours a day for four straight days/nights in order to finish the converting job - resulting in 434 GB worth of mov-files. This is no problem as such, and the quality is great. BUT it seems rather stupid that this converting has to take place. If I use Sony Vegas on my PC, it works out of the box with my original m2ts-files. And I would really appreciate if Apple would implement a simple import function of m2ts-files in their software - one that would (if necessary) automatically convert the files to mov. Or even better: would work natively with the m2ts-files.

like most of the programs quit's unexpectedly. some programs does not work on it. like adobe cs5 is not working. everytime time when i do click on adobe cs 5 icon it shows a message "To open “Adobe Photoshop CS5,” you need to install a Java SE 6 runtime, but you are not connected to the Internet.To install a Java SE 6 runtime later, open “Adobe Photoshop CS5” again" while i always remain connected on the net.

it sounds like a fualty installation of Lion, this may happen from time to time.
The best thing to do in this situation is to reinstall Lion. You will not loose anything doing this, but you should always keep back ups of your information.

basically hold Cmd+R on boot..
first go to disk utility, verify and repair your disks and permissions. Exit out of Disk utility and then go directly to "reinstall Lion"
choose that and let it reinstall.
Adobe CS6 does need Java to run.
To play your movies you might need to get an application called VLC. VLC is a free app and will play most videos and music files you throw into it.

Try to b boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down). If you can you can select Disk Utility to erase the hard drive and then reinstall Mavericks.

Recently, I thought I had graduated from final cut express and final cut express HD when . I decided to install final cut pro. Perhaps a wishfull thinking!
I have a power book g4 v 10.4.8, processor 1.5 ghz sdram with internal memory of 80 storage disk and 1 gb ddr sdram. I also have an external LaCie with a 200 storage capacity.
In the process of installing final cut pro, I stupidly changed the name of the media file. Maybe this action caused all my clips, video and audio, files go offline. The options given to me by the Reconnect Files Table , to get my files back, are : Single Search Location and Search.
I tried and tried both with no success. I would be grateful to any ones who might be able to help me to recover my clips without going through the pain of recapturing them from the tape. There are several tapes to be recaptured.
Now, for those of you who may have the patience, please read more below to see what I have gone through.
When I try to get to the files, I get the first warning: “The file of this project is from an earlier version. Would like to update this project?” And then it continues: “Note, once saved, this file cannot be opened by previous version. To avoid overwriting the original project file , you can choose Save Project As from the File Menue when the project updating is complete”. (It was at this point where I changed the files names formatted by the previous versions).
When I say Yes, another box appears: Update Project. It reads as follows:
“This project contains one or more sequences which this version of Final Cut Pro can render with Motion Tap (i.e. scalable, rotation, etc). Please choose a scalable quality (“fastest” recommended is the quality level 4.5. New Quality checked inside the little Box are: Best. Normal Fastest or linear." I choose Normal. The unchecked little Box reads: "Remove existing files ( this action is not undoable, it says”.
(By the way, in my project no sequences, have been set up as yet; they are all clips inside the bins with red slash in all clips).
When I press OK, “Offline Clips” Box opens and says the following:
“Some of the media of your project references either changed, moved, or gone away. You can either Reconnect these files, or Continue with them being Offline”. Below this it continues:
“Forget files.” Below that there is an unchecked box which says: “Media Files 69 Offline”.
When I press Connect instead of Continue, the Reconnect Files Box opens with 69 Offline files. In this Reconnect Files Box there are two sections’
The first section has a little unchecked Skip Files Box and another little checked Box which reads: “Search Single Location”.
When I open it, two paths are given to recover my files:
My name>LaCie> Final Cut Document>Folder>Gray files which cannot be revealed, and which I cannot open. I go on and onl ike a checken without a head in a circle without being able to get to the files off Offline.
I have the same problem with the second path: My name>Macintosh HD>FCP 5>gray files.
What should I do more to get my clip files back in the FCP format without being stuck to Offline files for ever?

If you use Windows program to partition the Hard Drive, the Apple partition gets destroyed.
Windows does not understand it is a guest on your Mac, and throws garabge wherever it pleases.

It's not that you can't format it because you have no backup, it's because you'll lose everything when you do. Lesson learned. Always have a backup.

similar to what is happening to me....the difference is, after restoring itunes detect ipod and ask to restore again and again....
I know it may look kinda stupid but: just leave the ipod there for about 2 minutes, that's about the time my itunes is taking to detect my ipod...if it doesn't work, try connecting ur ipod to other computer with itunes (no need to sync, just to check if itunes will recognize) to check if the problem is with the ipod or with the itunes and/or computer.

You cannot print to PDF on Mac as Adobe PDF printer is not available.
You can save the file as Adobe pdf though.

Make sure Readr is closed. Go to the Applications form, look for the Adobe Reader icon, double click on it, and follow the lead. Restart Reader when finished.

After erase, there is a matter of choosing a correct Partition Map, then format the HDD.
With a PowerPC (G3/G4/G5) usually that would be the Apple Partition Map, since the
architecture is different than later Intel-based Macs, who require a 'GUID' scheme.
The next choice for the PPC-based iBook, would be to use HFS+ (journaled) for
the format type; especially with a computer that can run OS X. Older models
that can dual-boot OS X and Mac OS 9.2.2 should use this format, too.
The choice is within the Disk Utility selection(s) when booted from the Install-restore
DVD, with Installer's drop-down menus; to choose to use other features instead of
running just the Installer itself.
