"Adobe" is a company. If you mean "Adobe Reader" then you can't (at least not easily). You need Adobe Acrobat for that.

  • Existing PDF into Extendable fillable form

I have an existing PDF with fillable fields.  Now I need to make some of these fillable fields extendable.  I have learned that I need to open these existing PDF's into LiveCycle and create SubForms and make them Flowable.  Which then loses most of the formatting the existing PDF has.   In essence,  am I just recreating the PDF since I lose most of the formatting due to making the subforms and the page flowable for the extending of form fields to work???  This has been extremely frustrating.  Any information is appreciated.

You can still achieve this with out reformatting the PDF. Setting up the Page to be Flowed is the last change you do. Before that you need to wrap all the fields into "Positioned" subformed based on their alignment.
Your heirarchy might looks like this after the changes.
    Page1 (Flowed)
Subform 1     (Positioned) Holds Static Fields
Subform 2     (Flowed) Holds Expandable Fields
Subform 3     (Positioned) Holds Static Fields
Subform 4     (Positioned) Holds Static Fields
Subform 5     (Flowed) Holds Expandable Fields
Subform 6     (Positioned) Holds Static Fields

  • When editing a PDF document with fillable forms, I get an unhandled exception error when scrolling past the first page

The first error is "An unhandled Win32 exception occurred in Acrobat.exe [4644]"
A debug window comes up after this and I open Visual Studio (not my area of expertise), and a couple more messages come up that may be helpful.
Unhandled exception at 0x625628db in Acrobat.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000044.
    Then
[Frames below may be incorrect and/or missing, no symbols loaded for AcroForm.api]
This is on Windows 7, running Acrobat Pro version 9.5.5
No new updates are available either.
Any ideas where to start? This happens with a couple of documents, but not all that are being edited.

I am also getting the same error for fill-able PDFs. Were you able to find an answer/solution for this problem?
I am using Acrobat X Pro on Windows 7

  • Generating PDF report as fillable form

    Dear All,
I was wondering if the following is possible:
I want BI Publisher to generate a PDF file, where some fields have been populated from our datasource, and others can still be filled in by the user in as fields.
Is this possible using BI Publisher?
    Edited by: user597377 on Jan 21, 2010 4:59 AM

    Hi,
I have a similar complication here. There seem to be problems in
the report builder that calculate wrong coordinaces, sizes, etc.
For example if I insert an image and resize it in a report, the
PDF output is really nice. But the RTF file is a complete
nonsense. Nether the size, not the position of the image is
    correct :((
I am looking for solutions, but I have no idea about these
    problems.
On the other hand I cannot embed a font in a PDF. Finally I
cannot use any of the mechanisms for generating web reports -
the PDFs have no cyrillic characters, the RTFs cannot display
images correctly. The HTML/HTMLCSS are not solution for
paging/controlling the printing output... Any ideas for help?
    Thanks.

  • Issue while changing fields in a fillable form PDF (Acrobat 10.1.4 Pro)

    Good Afternoon!
This is my first time posting here, so forgive me if this is in the wrong place.
I am an IT technician trying to support a user who is trying to change a PDF into a fillable form using Acrobat 10.1.4.  She is trying to use the wizard as shown in the image below:
When she uses this function, Acrobat goes through and automatically detects all possible fields and creates them for her.  Below is an image of the result:
What she is trying to do is change some of the field types - specifically, she wants to change the box next to "Adult/non-college request" to a check box.  She right clicks on this field to change it, and when she does, Acrobat simply closes.  No error comes up, and she is not given the option to save the document - when she opens it again, it is an ordinary PDF.  In addition, if she creates the form, and then only tries to save the form (without trying to change the fields), Acrobat again simply closes itself.  However, she is able to manually create fillable fields if she does not use the wizard at all, and the document functions normally.
Any help with this issue would be most appreciated.

    Save early and often.
I would save the result right after the wizard has made its errors.
One needs to delete the form field and then manually add the correct type of field. If you want that check box and the next to be mutually exclusive, one gives them the same name and sets the export value for each check box to a unique value.
I edit forms by opening the "Tools => Forms => Edit fields".
How to create editable PDF form fields
I do not like the wizards and create forms by adding all form fields manually according to my planned form design.

  • PDF printing out background placeholder text in fillable forms

I'm trying to print out a PDF which has fillable form fields. The Date of Birth text field has a faint grey placeholder text dd/mm/yyyy. Everytime those fields are filled in, the dd/mm/yyyy will also print out in the background. Is this an option that can be turned off or is it something to do with how the form was made?

    Hi Daniel O'Toole,
Please help with the below listed information for further assistance on this.
    1) Version of Acrobat/ Reader being used.
    2) Os being used
    3) Please attach a sample file to test.

  • PDF Fillable Forms: Is Pro Required to save results?

I am working on a project for a doctor who processes about 50 forms each day. He emails the forms in PDF format to his clients, who then print them out then sent the to the doctor by fax or via snail mail.
He then has to pay his assistant to type in all the fields into Word so the results may be saved digitally on his Intranet.
I would like to find a way to save him time, money and trees.
My idea is to create the forms in PDF format as fillable forms. His clients could fill them out on their computers, attach a digital signature and then email him the results.
Would Adobe Acrobat Pro be required for his clients to save the completed form with a digital signature then email the completed forms? Are there any reasons why using fillable forms for this is a bad idea?

    >Would Adobe Acrobat Pro be required for his clients to save the completed form with a digital signature then email the completed forms?
No. They can use Acrobat Standard as well. There is a way (using Pro) to enable the forms for Reader users so they can save them afterward.
    > Are there any reasons why using fillable forms for this is a bad idea?
If they plan on having the form filled out and saved in Reader (after enabling it) there is a 500 use limit. It's basically not a good option for business use. Unfortunately, to enable it for anything higher than the 500 use limit requires a very expensive server side option.

  • Damsel In Distress: Embedding Sound Clips in Fillable Forms

I embedded sounds (WAV files) in my professional 7.0 pdf with both the sound tool and the button tool. I also customized these with my own icon (JPG and PNG images). PROBLEM: once I open my pdf as a fillable form to add comment boxes, all the sound clips disappear, both icons and sounds. QUESTION: how can I embed sounds in my fillable forms? Thank you!

Thank you, but without LiveCycle Designer where does Acrobat allow me to create a fillable form that my user can submit data back to me via email. Again, I am embedding my sound files in Acrobat, but once I select the Advance Menu|Forms|Make Form Fillable in Adobe Designer, it automatically opens LiveCycle Designer and my embedded sound files disappear. Any other suggestions are welcomed!

  • Receive "Damaged File" error when trying to open a fillable form from website

When our users try to access a fillable form they now receive the attached error message. The file is not damaged however. I can send the form viai e mail and it works fine. Any ideas?

    Hello,
The PDF is a fillable form that was created in Adobe LiveCycle. It is a rather large file (1800 kb). It lives (was uploaded) on our internal website, which is WordPress. It is accessed as a link. It worked just fine until yesterday. We did come up with a temporary solution, which is to have the form reside on a public drive, and then I linked to it from our web page. The form will open in IE, but not through Chrome or FireFox. Chrome asks for plug in updates. Our company does support Chrome and IE, but the majority of our users use IE.

  • Fillable form fields for an Employee Performance Review ?

So i've designed our Employee Perfomance Review in InDesign, exported the PDF and created form fields in Acrobat 9. The goal is to have a PDF that contains fillable form fields for our yearly reviews that can be filled out, saved, and re-opened and edited again in Adobe Reader. They will need to be edited by several people from different computers.
The problem i'm running into is this: Each employee will have at least two supervisors contributing to their reviews. So, this form needs to be able to be edited by one person and saved, then forwarded to the next person who would in turn add their comments. The second reviewer would then save their information, send it back to the first reviewer, who would finalize the document, save it digitally and print it out so we would have a hard copy.
The main goal is to have a document that can be passed back and forth and remain editable.
I can use the Distribute Form option in Acrobat, but this information needs to be accessable by the completer of the form and HR only, and not myself. Using Distribute form would require HR to purchase a version of Acrobat to distribute the forms and access the information...either that or they would have to use my computer to distribute the form and recieve responses. This still doesn't solve my main problem. From everything I have seen, the distributed forms can only be submitted, and not saved or passed around.
If the PDF is sent out as an attachment, it can be filled out and printed to PDF to save it digitally, but it can't be edited again in Reader.
I'm looking for a way to utilize Acrobat for this, and not resort to using Word or some other program. The reason we upgraded to Acrobat 9 in the first place was because we thought it would make this process work. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    aaardvrk

Thanks. It looks like we're covered under 15.12.3(b) since this document will only be distributed to about 10 supervisors. I interpret this to mean that we can use this document as many times as we like as long as the total number of Users (supervisors) doesn't exceed 500.
"For any unique Extended Documnent, you may either (a)... ; or (b) Deploy such Extended Document to no more than five hundred (500) unique recipients without limits on the number of times you may extract information from such Extended Document returned to you filled-in by such Recipients."
    Thanks again.

  • How do I NOT allow a PDF Fillable form I've created to be saved?

I just got XI Pro ... I've never had a pro version before.  A co-worker who has used pro for ages (but has an older version) showed me how to make it so that a PDF filled form could be saved by another user.  However, in the version I have it seems that the ability for another user to save a PDF filled form is automatic ... I can't figure out how to shut it off.
Our PDF fillable forms will be on our website, but we DO NOT WANT a user to be able to save the filled or the blank form.  Looking for a PRINT-ONLY option once it's been filled out.
    Anyone have any ideas??
    Thanks!

This was recent;y discussed here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5881211
There was a major change made with Reader 11 that allows it to save filled-in forms, add all sorts of comments/markups, and some other things without the document needing to be Reader-enabled, unlike all previous versions. This is what you're noticing. So the best you can do is attempt to clear the fields when the document is saved and/or when it's opened.

  • Acrobat Pro XI - I can't seem to be able to edit font sizes in a PDF Fillable Form

I have a PDF fillable Form which I wish to complete except for a few fields that need to be completed each time the form is submitted, and save it with those static fields completed and signed with an image of my signature.
Sometimes the font seems to auto change it's size to fit in the field it is intended for, other times it is either too small to read or too large to fit in the box and be readable.  I've chosen the arrow tool and the menu choice Edit; Edit Text and Images, and they don't really seem to do anything.
One part of the form has two fields for phone numbers (Business and Home) and the Business entry is always too tiny to read, while the Home field is OK.
Aside from that, there are also two boxes with drop down menus which say Select with an arrow next to them, and one of them for example has choices of Male and Female.  If I select one, later when the form is printed, the gender choice is overprinting on the word Select, making it hard to read.

Thanks for explaining that.  I wish I had "Locked" all the fields before I started then, since I did get somehow get a couple of them rearranged by accident and it took some (not a lot) of work to get them back in the proper order.
For the present file, which I am not adding captions to, how would I set the "read only' property?  I looked around in the Tools area and the only thing that looked possible that I found was Protection; Restrict Editing but I didn't go farther yet because it wanted me to set a password before proceeding.
Is it possible to make individual fields "Read Only" rather than the whole document?
As for the signatures, what I did is sign on a piece of paper, scan that into a JPG file, and then choose "Sign" from the top menu bar between the Tools and Comment choices:
This allowed me to drag the image of my signature to the line on the form where I am supposed to sign it, and place it there.  Then when I save the form with that signature on it, if I open it again and go to Forms Edit, I get a message that the form contains no Form Fields, and asks it I want Acrobat to detect fields for me.  If I choose yes, it then detects fields that were not previously filled in, but not the fields in which I had placed default entries before saving it.
I see where you mean about Signature on the left pane, but if I open that after loading a PDF that I signed using the above procedure, it detects no signature.  So the "Digital Signature" you mention must not be the image of the signature like I am using.  So if I want to  make the image of my signature into a "Digital Signature" that can be verified, do I have to go to some third party paid procedure like Verisign or EchoSign or something or can I somehow self certify the image of my signature?
I notice, as a side issue, that if I upload the blank unmodified PDF Form to Acrobat.com, it lets me fill it out and saves the file with a "form" extension, and they have a menu choice to Sign, but if you choose that you just get a box in which it expects you to draw your signature with your finger or a stylus I guess, but the result doesn't look much like my signature, and then if you save it to the computer, it does save it as a PDF file, but if you try to print it, the printed document is blank, so that is kind of useless.
    Thanks for your continued help!

  • How do I send a PDF fillable form from Adobe Reader Acrobat?

I just installed Adobe Reader in my iPad to send a fillable form but as I sent it out the form is received blank by the recipient.  How do I save the PDF fillable form and send it out with the filled out information.  I am able to save it in Acrobat but for some reason I send the form but the recipient receives it blank.  What can I do?  Thank you for your help.

Your recipient needs to use Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat to reliably view a filled form. Chances are they are using a third-party, substandard PDF reader like Apple Preview. Adobe Reader is a free download; if necessary, you could provide them a link from the Adobe website.

  • Prepopulating PDF Fillable Forms with data from XML files

How can I get a PDF fillable form to open pre-populated with data from an XML file automatically? I've been using Adobe Standard 9.0 and am willing to upgrade in a modest fashion if necessary. I am aware of the Navigation method > Forms > Manage Form Data > Import Data. This works fine, however, my users are not smart enough to do tis much clicking and selecting. Is there an automated way to have this XML data merged into the PDF file on the fly. These files will reside on an internal local area network and will be operated on local PC's that will probably have Acrobat Reader ONLY. I have been told that the only way to accomplish this is through Java Scripting. I would prefer to do this the 'old fashioned' way of command line switches, but that does not appear to be an option. Does anyone have a sample Javascript that would accomplish what I am trying to achieve. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Sharon
    The easiest way is:
    - Open your PDF form within Acrobat
    - From the File menu, import the XML form data into the form
    - From the File menu, use Save As... to save the file with a new name.
The new PDF will be identical to the original one, but will have the data embedded in it. Voila.
If you want the same form to pre-populate with different XML files depending on the circumstances, or if you're generating the XML on the fly, then things get more complicated. (And more expensive.) As your consultant said, LiveCycle Forms is one option, but it is expensive (actually even more than 10K). There are other options, including Cold Fusion, custom servlets, etc.
