I need to convert PDF to Excel, however, columns and tabs make many merged cells and many blank columns. In addition to not separate the columns correctly, I see many not separate lines together in the same cell. I'm even thinking that Adobe Acrobat Pro DC has limitations. There is no way to define what points in columns to force break column? Nor create many columns that are useless? How does text to column in Excel, fixed size when we import text, and define where the breaks have columns?

PDF does not contain columns, rows, formats, styles, or other aspects of word processing or spreadsheet file formats.
This is because PDF is decidedly not a word processing or spreadsheet file format or something "like" one of those.
(see ISO 32000 for what PDF "is")
What can optimize the export of PDF page content is to start with a well-formed tagged PDF (ISO 14289-1, PDF/UA-1 compliant).
Without that export is what it is and one performs whatever content cleanup is needed using the native application for the export file (MS Word or Excel).

I have tried to convert the pdf to Word instead but same difficulty with numbers: look like numbers but not usable for calculations

Excel has a 'text to numbers' function, I would use that.

  • Text getting cut off when printing to PDF from Excel

    Hello,
I've seen a lot related to this subject but nothing that shows a real solution.
Using Excel 2003-sp3 and Adobe Acrobat v.9 Standard, the right half of the last character in the string gets cut off. It prints from excel fine.
It's not always the text that is the right-most on the page either. An affected PDF file is attached - note the cut off "S" on the last line (NET ASSETS OF GOVERNMENTAL ACTIVITIES).
         Any assistance is appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Hey! On excel I want to count how many time a text come back in the spreadshit (sum) thx, hey! On excel I want to count how many time a text come back in the spreadshit (sum) thx

    Excel:
line of cellule with 3 different text. I want to count have many time a text come in the line... Thx for helping me, it is for my job!!

Hopefully I am understanding your question.
A typical way to count how many times a word appears in a line of text in a cell is to substitute spaces for the word, one less space than the length of the word. Example:
A1 has the string "brown red brown green"
    A2 =LEN(A1) - LEN(SUBSTITUTE(A1,"brown","    "))
"brown" has five letters so there are four spaces in the substitution text)
If you want to do several cells at once, counting the total number of times the word appears, concatenate the cells with a space between them
A1 and A2 have text in them
    A3 =LEN(A1&" "&A2) - LEN(SUBSTITUTE(A1&" "&A2,"brown","    "))

  • Adobe Acrobat X does not convert pdf to Excel with floating columns!

I have a Macbook Pro, running 10.6.8, using Acrobat X Pro.  I have tried all Adobe suggestions for converting credit card statement saved as Adobe pdf to Excel.  None of the recommended solutions separate the data into columns.  It places all data, separated by spaces, into ONE column. Adobe should fix this if it is going to claim that the product converts to Excel, and for $300+ it should!

    Hello,
you may scan using any ICA-Compliant software (e.g HP Scan, Image Capture, Read Iris, etc) and then launch the file using Adobe Acrobat.
As you mentioned Adobe require TWAIN Drivers, however the HP software only provide ICA Drivers.
As you may find listed within the scanning specification below, Twain drivers are only provided for Windows OS:

  • Export pdf to excel

Is anyone having issues with exporting to excel?  I am trying out the trial version Acrobat 10 X pro and I cannot get the pdf to export to excel with all the tables in tact .  Some of the tables convert to excel fine where others do not. My PDF is 45 pages and in table format, there is also text out side the tables. Any help would be appreciated.   Thanks

It is possible to export from PDF to Excel, with the format still intact, using Cogniview's software suite PDF2XL.  It allows you to define the PDF to XLS conversion layout.  You can preview, edit rows and cells, and determine the format of exported data.  Multiple page conversion is a good feature in this software, and you can also edit and convert the text outside the tables.
Open your image file  -  mark the table  - convert the table to Excel.  It is that simple.

  • Trouble converting PDF to Excel

I'm trying to convert this delimited PDF to an excel (or some other delimited format). Using Adobe Acrobat 9, I attempt to save it and copy it as Excel but it gives the error message "BAD PDF; error in processing fonts. [348]".  How can I save as an excel?

The PDF is not a Tagged PDF, so export will not provide an output that requires low-effort cleanup.
The PDF producer was Crystal Reports, not Excel - so, the data comes from some database application.
    Consequently, no "file" to share.
Now, if this Crystal Reports PDF was not a "Bad PDF" due to use of unsupported Type2 font then you could try making the Tagged by use of Advance > Accessibility > Add Tags to Document (using Acrobat Pro).
If the PDF were Standards compliant, even not tagged, you could play with the following:
Save the PDF to your local machine.
With Acrobat Professional or better -
Use the Select Tool to select content.
Hover the mouse cursor over some highlighted content. Look for a change in the cursor icon.
(arrow head pointed up and left with a page sheet below and to the right)
Now, right click for the context menu.
    Choices:
Copy | Copy as Table | Save as Table | Open Table in Spreadsheet | Select All Text | Deselect All Text
Or, File > Select All (Ctrl+A, Command+A) the hover the mouse.
The output will actually be a csv file but a spreadsheet app will open it.
Based on what is/is not selected what is present for column headings can be (to some extent) manipulated.
But, again, a well-formed Tagged PDF would permit rather clean transfer of data from the PDF to Excel.
You could try Save As to a *.txt file and manually delimit the data.

  • PDF and Excel output cell spacing issues

    Hi all..
I have a report and template whose output should be both in PDF and Excel.
Lets say I have two tables in out put one below other. (Table1 and table 2 below it..)
Table 1 has 5 columns and table 2 has 30 columns.
In PDF since it is difficult and ugly to show 30 columns, I made font as 6( very small font)
PDF output looks fine. But, when I open the reort in excel..its all messed up and ugly.
Table 1 column widths are very much uneven. lI noticed that table1, table 2 coulmns width are same...
For my Requirement, they must have seperate widths.. Also..when I open the report in Excel, I still get in font size 6 which is ugly
I want table1 column width and table 2 column width in Excel as seperate..
    How do I achieve this.

    Vetsrini wrote:
    you can do that too..
two set of tables, one for each output. and use the Microsoft word font properties.
    else
    add something like this
    <fo:block font-size="14pt" font-family="verdana" color="red">
    Your test or your field
    </fo:block>Srini, this worked!
My font differences in Pdf and Excel has been eliminated now.
But however I have one more problem as I stated in my first post.
When I exported into Excel, My column width of first table is dependant on the other making my report look uneven.
I am providing the screen shots.
Look how Rate column of first table is very huge as it took the colmun width of table2 (Decription column)

  • Are trails of the PDF to Excel converter available?

I have a PDF file consisting of several hundred pages that I must match to existing county government records. The data source we subscribe to, allows us to copy and use the information as we need it. Doing it one record at a time is totally impractical. I can do the comparisons in minutes by pasting the data into an Excel spreadsheet.
The PDF page consist of text box fields that are not evenly aligned, thus gridding the rows and columns is more problamatic.
I work for a local government agency, and have to involve our "IT" department. The $80 dollars for the PDF to Excel converter is within our budget, but we have to know if the application is suited to this type of page.
Can I send a page from the file to get an opinion, or perhaps use a trial version of the converter if available?
I have to hope this is falling on friendly ears.....Is there help?

This is a online conversion service.

    thanks

There are apps that support multiple document formats e.g. GoodReader 4 supports (read-only) PDFs, text files, images, and word and excel documents - from their help pages on their website, http://www.goodreader.com/gr-man-view-other.html :
For file types that are not covered by our own advanced viewing engines, we use standard built-in viewing engine, which should be familiar to you from your Safari application experience. When you open any file in Safari, you activate the same viewing engine that we use for the following file types: Microsoft Office files - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML files and Safariwebarchives, iWork files - Pages, Numbers, Keynote.
Please note that the built-in viewer doesn't support very large MS Office files. If your MS Office file crashes built-in viewing engine, we suggest to convert it to a PDF file. PDF files of huge sizes are easily handled by GoodReader using our own advanced viewing engine.
That app also allows you to create folders within it, so you can have separate folders for your areas.

    Hi DirTech,
Are both of these dates in the same Excel file? If they're in different files, are you choosing the same language for OCR (optical character recognition)?
If they are in the same PDF file, how was that PDF file created? Was it created from a third-party application (rather than an Adobe application)? If it was created by a third-party application, it could be that it wasn't written to spec, and that's why you're seeing some oddities in the PDF > Excel conversion.  (See Will Adobe ExportPDF convert both text and form... | Adobe Community.)
    Best,
    Sara
