PDF to JPEG/TIFF book printing...

Where are the folders supposed to be after you've selected the Save PDF to Folder as JPEG or TIFF? I've run this action a few times and I never get a Save dialog or folder that Spotlight can find. So, I guess this is not actually working here...? Anybody else having this trouble?
Thanks!

When you select that PDF option, you should notice after the "processing page: <n>" dialog goes away that there is an Automator workflow running if you watch your menu bar. At some point, you'll get a popup window titled "Move Finder Items" offering you a choice of locations, a "replace existing files" checkbox, and cancel/continue buttons. That's where you tell it where to put the files.
To anticipate the next question you'll have once you have this working, which is "how do I get higher than 200 dpi resolution?", go to Library/PDF Services, open the appropriate workflow file you find there in Automator, and change the slider to 300 dpi and save it. You could build yourself some 300 dpi equivalents and save them in the same directory, suitably named, and have the menu populated automatically.
The question I had after that was "but why does it still look like crap?" and I haven't found the answer to that one yet. I found that no matter the color management, blackpoint correction, etc. settings I fiddled with, I couldn't get a page image of a single image to print nearly as nicely either as a converted file (JPG) or straight from Aperture (PDF) as if I just selected that image in the library and printed it. I have profiled my display and printer, and do get acceptable results printing from the library. It is hard to summon enthusiasm for the idea of forking out the money for a printed book if what I've gotten from proofing is what I'm going to get!

  • Unable to export from the Book Module in LR-4.4 to Blurb, PDF and JPEG

I have made a book in the book module and was really looking forward to send it to Blurb for printing. I push the "Send book to Blurb... " button but nothing happens. I have tried to export to PDF and JPEG aswell, but nothing. I am Connected to internet, I have an account at Blurb but no reaction. Are there any settings I have missed or are there any bugs that prevents me from exporting? Do Blurb ship to Norway or is that the problem? Please help!!!

When you click on <Send Book to Blurb> a dialog should come up that asks for your ID and password for your Blurb account. I don't know if Blurb ships to Norway - you probably can find out at the Blurb website. But I don't think that this is the problem here since you also cannot export a PDF or JPGs.
I don't know of any specifics why this is not possible for you but it's worth trying to replace the Preference File.
This file can go "funny" and is then responsible for all kinds of strange behavior of Lr. The remedy is replacing the Preference File.
BTW: Re-installing Lr or updating / upgrading Lr does not replace the Preference File since it is designed to "survive" upgrades.

  • Tracking placed files (jpeg,tiff,word,PDF,excel)

It was recommended to ask this here vs bridge - not much luck in bridge. The situation: i have multiple sources sending a variety of files (jpeg, tiff, word,PDF,and excel). As the book is designed many of them will be placed. As long as the sources update with the same name im good. However, they will inevitably send me batches of files containing new files - how can I track what has been placed and what hasn't. I will have multiple folders to organize the chaos. One thing bridge helped with: keyword. I can quite easily assign a placed keyword in bridge, filter using that word and im done. Except for word and excel - metadata doesn't take. Someone explained this to me.
The sources are out of country, so i have to track this. Bridge takes care of 90%. Perhaps someone has dealt with this. Again, if someone adds a new photo without calling it out, keyword work. Its the Microsoft documents that get tricky. In advance, i appreciate our time.

Start by creating an Item type of OLE container. Set the following properties:
    - OLE Tenant Types: Embedded
    - Database Item: Yes
Make that item the last item in the block.
Create a push button such as 'Insert Document' with similar code:

    Thank you

Yes i do use LR4.3 .Idid upgrade to L4 from L3 , only because the book feature,to switch from blurb to PDF. I do use mostly my own images or combination of photo montage, but sometimes color backgrounds or lightroom graphics.
I just reinstalled all my backgrounds and it seems like to work now.No explaination of what went wron (or what is wrong) as i am used to lightroom .May the fact that i am tweeking the layout (using the print layout) or the padding feature quite a bit but that's what the software is supposed to do.

Here is an article from Adobe:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/exporting-publishing-pdf.html
Export an open document to PDF for printing
    Choose File > Export.
Specify a name and location for the file.
For Save As Type (Windows) or Format (Mac OS), choose Adobe PDF (Print), and then click Save.
When you select the Adobe PDF (Print) option, you cannot include interactive elements in the PDF. To export an interactive document to PDF, see Create interactive documents for PDF.
    Do one of the following:
To use a predefined set of job options, choose a preset from the Adobe PDF Preset menu.To create a PDF/X file, either choose a PDF/X preset from the Adobe PDF Preset menu, or choose a predefined PDF/X format from the Standard menu.To customize options, select a category from the list on the left and then set the options.
For Compatibility, choose the lowest PDF version necessary to open the files you create.
Click Export (Windows) or Save (Mac OS).
To reset options to the default, in the Export Adobe PDF dialog box, hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) and click Reset. (The Cancel button changes to Reset.)

  • Is there any way to embed the pdf file in the book created in iBooks Author to make it available to be downloaded or sent to email? So that the user can print it out.

Is there any way to embed the pdf file in the book created in iBooks Author to make it available to be downloaded or sent to email?
I'm making the book for children and there is one chapter providing coloring pages. So I wish to attach pdf files that allow users to download it at the end of chapter so that  they can print it out. Been searching through discussion, I've found some advice about taking screen snapshot page-by-page > then send the pics from photo album to email. However, I'm wondering if there's a way that make the process easier.

Warehouse that PDF on your own server, then link to it from your book.

  • Writing XMP to multiple file formats (PDF, JPEG,  TIFF, etc)

    Hi,
I am developing a server-side component that embeds XMP data into a file (of various formats) and then provides these files for client download.
I have been using the XMP toolkit for generating the metadata, however i now have the problem of getting this metadata into the relevant file. I could always develop this myself but it seems like a huge amount of work. So to make my life easier, does anyone know of any toolkits (from adobe or otherwise) that support writing XMP data into different file formats (PDF, JPEG, TIFF, AIFF, MPEG etc) ??
I am developing in Java so I would prefer Java libraries, however I can always use JNI calls to C/C++ (as i have with the XMP toolkit).
Any help would be very appreciated.
    Regards,
    Jude

    Greetings,
I think we should standardize some information, I know for a fack, that I will support adding XMP metadata in the HDF, RIFF, IFF and OLE file formats. If you have any specific suggestions on the chunk information or signature information that I should use, let me know?
For my part, I was thinking of adding RIFF,IFF chunks with the name \ xmp in those file formats. For OLE, maybe an added stream with the xmp name (in UTF-16).
    Comments welcome everyone!

  • HT5071 Can I create a book using the IBooks Author word processing software, save it as a PDF, then have it professionally printed by an offset press to sale in brick and mortar stores? If so, is this procedure free me from any IBooks restrictions?

It's your content, under your control.
If you output as an .ibooks file, and you want to sell it, the store is the only outlet, otherwise, you can do as you wish.

  • PDF/X1a with a logo containing a colorized grayscale tiff not printing properly

I have a 3 color logo: black, PMS 200U, and PMS 1955U. The logo was built in Illustrator and I have placed grayscale tiff ontop of it. The grayscale tiff is a stipple (dots) effect that I colorized to PMS 1955U in Illustrator, masked it out on top of the logo, and set it to multiply. Within Illustrator, the separations look good and it prints fine when printing directly out of illustrator.
The problem is when I export it to a PDF/x1a and try to print it, it doesn't print properly. Printing from acrobat, it only previews and prints the PMS 1955U stipple and black. The flat PMS 200U under the tiff doesn't print. I've tried bitmapping the photoshop file and making the stipple monochromatic and still doesn't seem to work when exporting to a PDF and printing.
Funny thing is, when I do the whole process for the CMYK logo (not PMS), it all prints out fine as a PDF/x1a.
Any ideas on how to get the logo to export and print properly?
    Any help is much appreciated!!

Press quality uses PDF version 1.4 which supports transparency while PDF/X-1a uses PDF version 1.3 which requires transparency to be flattened.
For your issue, try enable Overprint Preview in Acrobat preferences and see you are getting the expected results, use Output Preview panel in Acrobat to turn off individual plate to see if your missing PMS 200U is listed and flat color appears.
If the above does not works please send me the files to reproduce this issue at my end, i will send my email in private message to you.

  • Converting PDF files to Tiff's or JPEG's

Whish Adobe software do i have to download in order to convert Photo's that are PDF's into Tiffs? Is it Adobe 9?

    1. No cost method - Maximise the picture on your screen and hit 'Print Screen'. Paste it into Paint and save as a TIFF/JPG etc...
    2. If you use Acrobat, choose File>Save as Image>TIFF,JPG/PNG etc... It will produce an elementary image file for each PDF page in better quality than printing the screen. However, if you have more than one image per page, they will all appear on the same image file along with text and everything else displayed on the page.

  • JPEGs in offset printing?

I'm working on a book in InDesign CS4 that has ~200 images in it. Will print offset. Most images have been supplied as jpeg scans (of printed matter, like posters and letters), and digital photos provided as jpegs as well. Historically I would convert all jpegs into a cmyk tiff file, resave, and replace individually into ID before delivering art to the printer. I know it depends on the printer and their RIP/workflow, but don't want to wish I had done it "my old way" if there is a quality trade off.
Question: do I need to convert all jpegs to cmyk tiffs and replace each image in ID, or can most current RIPS handle that process (the RGB to CMYK conversion)?
I'm going to supply my native files to the printer for their PDF workflow.
    Thanks

Your specific questions cannot be answered by any of us here. You've got to work this out with your printer; you need a “meeting of the minds” in terms of what the printer wants and what you deliver even if such a workflow is not up to modern standards.
In the general case, though, we (at Adobe) would recommend a workflow in which content is kept at the highest level of abstraction as late as possible in the workflow, possibly all the way to the RIP. Assuming a reasonably modern native PDF RIP (such as one powered by the Adobe PDF Print Engine technology), you should leave your RGB JPEG images as-is and place them directly in your InDesign document - no color conversions, no resampling! Given that they are already in JPEG format, it buys you nothing to convert them to TIFF and changing to some CMYK color space (which one?) only ties the hands of your printer in terms of which target device is used and the flexibility to change the device. And even if the printer wants (doesn't really “need” CMYK), such conversions can be requested to occur when either printing or exporting PDF; that conversion capability in InDesign is no worse that what you would do manually in Photoshop. Same issue is true with transparency flattening.

  • How do you create a mixed media disc? I would like to include a slideshow/movie as well as include a .pdf of a photo book on the same disc?

How do you create a mixed media disc? I would like to include a slideshow/movie as well as include a .pdf of a photo book on the same disc. I would like the movie to play on any DVD player.

Do you want the pdf available to view or just for copying from the disk to a computer for viewing.
To view a PDF you can do a Print ➙ PDF ➙ Save PDF to iPhoto which will create a jpg of each page of the pdf and save it to iPhoto.  From there you can send the PDF jpegs to iDVD to make a slideshow of the pages.  It's the same principle as used in this tutorial: 06 - Creating an iDVD Slideshow From an iPhoto Book.
If you don't have the Safe to iPhoto workflow in your HD/Library/PDF Services folder you can download it from  Toad's Cellar.

  • IPhoto Book Print - Rejected

    Sirs
Could you please help me with an issue that I currently have with iPhoto.
As a Christmas Present for my 6 year old daughter, I have created an iPhoto book of our recent trip to EuroDisney. I completed the book and purchased it via the Apple Store in iPhoto.
However, I have today received an email stating as follows:
    To Our Valued Apple Customer:
It appears that when your order was submitted to Apple, an error caused the
image file to be unreadable or unprintable. As a result, Apple is unable to
process your order and you will not be charged. We recommend the following
      before submitting your order:
      1. Update your software.
      2. Restart your computer.
      3. Make sure all applications are closed.
      4. Open iPhoto or Aperture.
      5. While all other applications are closed, preview your print product as a
      PDF.
      6. Resubmit your order.
While previewing and resubmitting your order, make sure all other applications
are closed. For instructions on how to update your software, refer to:
Mac OS X - Updating your software
      <http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1338>
I have checked the version of my MacBook - it is OS X 10.7 and I have checked the version of my iPhoto - it is 9.1.5. When selecting purchase in iPhoto, it is stating that I need to upgrade to 9.2.3. However, when I attempt to check for new updates in iPhoto itself, it is stating that my version is the latest version. Furthermore, checking for software updates via the Apple logo does not bring up any update for iPhoto nor does any updates in my Application Store.
It seems as if I require an update but there are no ways in which I can update this.
Could someone please advise / assist as I desperately want to get this book printed.
    Many Thanks
    Paul

If you update your system to 10.7.5 with the OS X Lion Update 10.7.5 (Client Combo) and OS X Lion 10.7.5 Supplemental Update updaters you can update your iPhoto version all the way to 9.4.2 thru the updaters availailable here: Apple - Support - Downloads-iPhoto 9.
But that's no guarantee that will fix the problem. If the problem image appears OK in a PDF preview of the book it should, as Larry pointed out, print out OK.  If it doesn't look OK in the PDF preview file export it out of iPhoto, open in Preview and export as a new, JPEG file.  Import it back into iPhoto, add to the book and replace the problem file with the newly created one.  Then create a new PDF file of the book and check that photo.

  • Problems creating PDF from JPEGs.

I am using Acrobat Standard 6.0.5. I am having trouble creating a PDF from certain JPEGs. I created these JPEGs using a scanner and Photoshop Elements 5, saving them as 8-bit grayscale at 300dpi. When I create a PDF from these JPEGs in Acrobat, I get a blank, 1 inch x 1 inch image. I've tried zooming in and out and the image is still blank. The funny thing is that I can extract the JPEGs from the newly created PDF, so they are somehow present; I just can't see them.
    Some other data points:
    1. I can create a PDF from JPEGs from my digital camera. These are 180 dpi, 24-bit color, but otherwise I don't see any notable differences.
    2. I've tried converting the problematic JPEGs to 24-bit color. That made no difference.
    3. I've tried converting the problematic JPEGs to JPEG2000. That *did* make a difference -- I can create a PDF from them just fine.
    4. I can open the problematic JPEGs in Photoshop Elements and *print* them to PDF. That works just fine.
There's obviously something about these files that Acrobat doesn't like, or else some configuration setting in Acrobat that needs to be adjusted, but I can't figure out what it is.
    Thanks in advance!

JPegs are often problems. You might try saving to TIFF instead, the standard for scanners.
