PDF to Keynote?

I have a 35 page pdf file that looks like it was originally a Powerpoint presentation.
Is ther an easy way to convert a pdf file to Keynote?

you cant convert PDF to a Keynote.
options are:
use the Keynote as a presentation itself by using full screen mode in Acrobat reader
if the security settings in the PDF allow, you may be able to copy and paste single pages, images or text into Keynote.

exporting a PDF from keynote without losing hyperlinks
anyone have any ideas why it doesn't export the hyperlinks to the PDF?
i only have PDF reader on my machine, not the full PDF creator

Or, better than that, export the PDF from InDesign as PDF/X-4!
By default, Acrobat and Reader use overprint preview when displaying PDF/X-4 files. Plus you have the benefit of full color management and not having transparency ruined by premature flattening.
One other note. Other than for the fairly common practice of overprinting black text over colors to avoid halo effects due to registration, one should be exceptionally careful in using overprint. Trapping, the other good, justifiable use for overprint is really best performed by the RIP. Most modern RIPs provide for automatic trapping. Overprint should absolutely not be used as a “poor man's transparency,” especially in conjuction with spot colors. With the advent of real transparency in the Adobe imaging model and hence in Illustrator, InDesign, and PDF, there is no good reason to use overprint hacks anymore to simulate transparency.

  • Is there Windows application to convert PDF to Keynote format?

I want to convert power point files so they can be viewed on the ipad.  There are Mac pdf to Keynote converters avaialble, but I want to be able to convert my power points on my PC to key note format and then email or itune sync them to my ipad for use in Keynote on the iPad.
    Any suggestions?

You can use any office suite or reader software that you want to read Powerpoint files. There is no conversion necessary.
If you just want to present a Powerpoint, you may want to use Goodreader or Readdledocs. (I use and like Goodreader.)
If you want to edit Powerpoint, the choices become more complex.
Quickoffice Connect Mobile Suite has a less full-featured word processor, but can supposedly edit Powerpoint (particularly graphics) rather well.
Documents to Go is known for its Intact technology meaning even if it can't allow you to edit something, it stays in the document. Pages, Keynote, and Numbers now have similar things, and the Apple options have excellent feature support.

  • Handy app: PDF to Keynote

Here's a very handy tool I've just run across, and I haven't seen mentioned here: PDF to Keynote. Like the name says, it will take a PDF document, and put each page on a separate slide in a new Keynote presentation. You can set various parameters for the resulting presentation (slide size, background, PDF page size).
This app is one good (and free) solution for the problem of wanting multiple pages of a PDF on slides (or just wanting a single page that is not the first page).

Hey that´s really a great app. Just saved me a lot of work! Thnak You for pointing it!

  • HT3697 Is there a simple way to create a borderless PDF from Keynote.

Is there a simple way to create a "borderless" PDF using Keynote slides?
When I create a PDF, each slide appears separately with a border around it.
I am a relatively new keynote and mac user.
I am using Keynote version 6.2

    I got the same result.
I'm trying to create what looks like a single document that viewers can scroll through.
I done quite a bit of checking and it seems that Keynote used to give you the ability to crop the PDF which, if I understand what they are talking about, would make it look like one big document and not a series of slides.
I read about using terminal commands (?) which are way beyond my skill level.
Also, I could buy Adobe Acrobat which, from what I've read, would also work. I'm not fond of making that investment.
    Right now, I'm stuck!
I need to create a "long form sales letter" and I'm starting to think that I'm using the wrong program.
Thank you very much for your help and any other suggestions you might have.

  • HT4636 Can you open a PDF in Keynote for iPad?

I am a designer using InDesign.  I'd like to export my presentation to PDF and then open on my iPad using Keynote. Doable?

Are you in Safari and you want to copy them to iBooks, or you in a different app ? Assuming that you are using Safari, then if I open a PDF on my first gen iPad in Safari and tap on it, I then get a pop-up bar at the top of it with the 'Open In' options.

  • Exporting as PDF from Keynote type problem

    Hi,
I'm trying to export a Keynote presentation as a PDF for a client leave-behind, and the PDF is not showing all fonts correctly. Some slides have simple text boxes that Adobe Reader and Acrobat render as complete gibberish. Other screens have Numbers spreadsheets that I exported successfully as PDFs (that render fine separately), but when the PDF is dropped into a keynote slide and then exported again as a PDF of the whole presentation, they turn into an unreadable mess.
I have seen error messages upon opening the PDF in Acrobat like this:
'Cannot extract the embedded font 'DKUXBZ+MyriadPro-It'. Some characters may not display or print correctly.'
But I don't know what 'DKUXBZ+' means. My Myrad Pro works fine in all my other applications.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    D

I would guess that you have upgraded to Mac OS X 10.6.7. If so there is a bug which affects PostScript OpenType fonts like Myriad Pro Italic.
You can read about the problem here:
    http://www.tidbits.com/article/12078
The solution is to use a different (non-OpenType) font or revert to 10.6.6.

  • How can I export more than 6 slides to a page as a PDF in Keynote?

I need to export the slides in my Keynote presentation as a PDF so it can be printed and handed out for the participants to take notes with. It appears that the maximum number of slides per page I can export is (6) and even with that number, the slides are printed very small in a vertical row on the left side of the page. I need to print more slides per page and would like them spaced across the entire page with a small amount of space for notes. Is this possible?
    Thank you,
    Mark Maio

    Welcome to the forums!
You may want to use the hugely-helpful-but-little-known Layout options in the Print dialog to format the printed handouts as you want them, rather than using Keynote's Handout options. First, in the Print dialog, use the dropdown menu to go to the usual Keynote options, and choose Individual Slides, or Slides with Notes. These options will usually produce one slide per page. Now, use the same dropdown menu to go to the Layout options. Here, you can specify how many pages are printed on a single sheet of paper, and how they are arranged on that sheet. (You may need to also play with the page orientation in the Page Setup dialog to get the final effect you want.)

  • Export pdf borderless keynote 6.0

I use keynote to create graphics for latex. In keynote '09 I could simply export them as PDF borderless.
Keynote 6.0 seems to always put this annoying black border around the exported PDF. Is there a way to export without this border?
(The hint to use the print functionality is worthless to me here as it does not export the slide in its dimensions but on a printable sheet which requires manual trimming later which I want to prevent.)

Thanks for the hint to pdfcrop (e.g. part of texlive, needs X11)!
    Running
    pdfcrop --margins "-1 -1 -1 -1" input.pdf output.pdf
removes the border. So this is a workaround that might be faster than opening and exporting in keynote '09.
As I have many graphics and I change them frequently the border remains annoying and should be removable in the program.
For those wanting to see the 1px border, you can enter:
    pdfcrop --margins "5 5 5 5" input.pdf output.pdf
and you will see the annoying black border...
So I agree with techfips and encourage you to:

  • Font issues exporting PDF in Keynote 6.5

Is anyone else experience font issues exporting PDF's in Keynote 6.5?
My entire team has been having issues specifically exporting the font Merriweather. It's been fine in the presentation itself, but in the PDF - it's spaced out aggressively and the font weight/type/size is always wrong.
It's been a real hassle, as our brand body copy font is Merriweather and we've never had a problem with it.

The conversion issue seems to be tied to OTF fonts. Converting Merriweather to TTF, deleting OTF versions from Font Book, and/or System Font Folder worked for us. Clearing font cache and restarting can further flush out any legacy conflicts.

  • Transform pdf in keynote or ppt

Hi. I often see slideshows on the web, which you can download as a pdf. Is there a way probably using automator to transform this pdf presentations in keynote presentation. It is clear to me that does ones will not be editible, however if a workflow would just make a keynote slide out of every pdf slide (page) , that would be a great timesaver

Well, it's possible to convert the pages of a PDF into images with the Automator action "Render PDF Pages as Images". And it's possible to add images to an already opened Keynote presentation with "Create Image Slide". If you don't have a presentation opened already, you could use "Make New Keynote Presentation". Since you always have to have at least one slide in a presentation, a new presentation starts with a blank slide. After the images are added as slides, you can use "Delete Slide" to delete that first slide. I'm using iWork '08 and so the presentation actions are from that version.
I don't know what is inside your PDFs, so I'm going to assume they contain text documents. Often, text documents are laid out in a PDF to print on paper. The width and height of a PDF document that is 8.5 x 11.0 inches turns out to be 612 x 792 pixels. PDFs are defined with 72 points per inch and in this case the points get converted to pixels when making images with the Automator action. If you have a different size PDF document (use the inspector panel in the Preview app), you can multiple the size in inches by 72 to get the pixel size for the images that will be returned.
Here's a workflow I threw together just now that works for me:
    1. *Make New Keynote Presentation* - I left the default theme set to White and I set the width to 612 and the height to 792. If Keynote isn't already open, this action will cause it to be opened. This action must come before the PDF, otherwise the created presentation is passed on to the next actions instead of the PDF. If you save this workflow as an application, you might want to choose the Options button on this action and select "Show this action when the workflow runs" so you can set the size each time.
    2. *Get Selected Finder Items* - I chose this action so I could select a PDF in the Finder and then run the workflow. This works great if you save the workflow as an application and then place it in the Finder's toolbar. In case you're wondering, this action ignores the input from the previous action.
    3. *Render PDF Pages as Images* - For testing, I left it set to the defaults: RGB, JPEG, 200 dpi, compression midway. This will be what you change if you want better clarity or different formats for some reason. This may take a long time. The more pages and the larger they, the longer this will take, of course.
    4. *Create Image Slide* - I left this set to the defaults. Not really sure what the settings do, so you'll need to play with that to find out yourself. Keep in mind this will add the slides to the frontmost presentation open in Keynote, so it's probably a good idea to leave Keynote alone until the workflow is done. This also takes a long time, seems to be slightly longer than rendering the images. So, the more slides to add, the more time it'll take.
    5. *Delete Slide* - This is to remove the first slide in the new presentation created with the first action in this workflow. You can't delete a slide if it's the only slide, so it's done after the other slides have been added. However, you might want to keep the slide and create an intro for the images.
And that's it. I tested it by selecting a PDF file in the Finder and returning to Automator to run the workflow. I also saved the workflow as an application and then put it in the Finder toolbar (shows up as an Automator icon), then I tested that by selecting a PDF file and then clicking on the Automator icon in the Finder's toolbar. Works for me both ways. Keep in mind you'd want to select only one PDF because multiple PDFs would be combined into one Keynote presentation.
You may want to add another action or two. You could add "Save Keynote Presentation" at the end which will save the frontmost presentation, and choose the Options button on the action and select "Show this action when the workflow runs" so you can name it whatever you want each time you run it. Then, if you don't expect you'd be using this several times in a row, you could add the action "Quit Application" and select Keynote so it'll be closed afterwards. Since Keynote creates a new presentation on its own each time it is opened, you'll probably want to deselect the checkbox that prompts you save any unsaved documents so it'll close immediately.
Also, Keynote doesn't seem to offer an option to not create a new presentation. It does however have a preference setting for the default theme instead of having a theme chooser appear. Setting that will prevent Keynote from bouncing in the Dock trying to get your attention to select a theme for a presentation you aren't going to use. Not that it matters, because you can just ignore since it'll stop bouncing once Automator creates another presentation in front of it.
The only reason I didn't make use of the new presentation created by Keynote when it's first opened is so the workflow would work as expected even when Keynote was already opened with other presentations. Having the first action create a new presentation ensures any presentations already opened in Keynote won't be modified. Of course, if you expect to be in that situation, you probably also don't want to add the action for quitting Keynote.

  • Downsizing pdfs in Keynote

When I drag pdfs into the slide frame they are oversized and not reduced to fit the frame in either axis even though I have the automatic downsampling preference on.
And with jpegs, if they're oversized vertically they're only resized to fit the horizontal frame dimension and then I still have to manually make them smaller to fit in the vertical axis.
    Any thoughts?

1     create a new master slide
2     inspector > master slide appearance - tick the object or media placeholder
3     size and position the place holder for the proportions you want; use square, view or portrait placeholders as        needed on separate master slides for convenience
4     add new slides and apply the master slide with the place holder, to the slides
5     drag and drop images and PDF files anywhere on the place holder and they will fill correctly

  • Pdf created with Mathematica 9 misses font in Preview and Keynote

    Dear all,
I have installed a new font called 'Arev Sans' in Regular, Italic and Bold face. It works fine in Keynote and Mathematica and all other programs so far. Now I did an Export of a plot in mathematica and tried to look at the created pdf with Preview. It turns out, that only the Italic and Bold fonts of Arev Sans are shown in the correct way. The Regular face is substituted by another font. Unfortunately this is the same if I try to include the plot in Keynote, which is bad because I want to use the Arev font in my presentation... However, if I open the pdf with Acrobat Readrer the fonts are ok.
Does anyone have a suggestion what to do? Would be great!

I did as you suggested and there are no errors after the valdiation with Font Book.
Yes Regular is listed against Arev.
Actually, the font works in Keynote and also in Mathematica. The problem occurs just when I do the Export from Mathematica and include the created pdf into Keynote (or likewise open it with Preview). It seems to me that there is an issue with the font coming from Mac Os...

  • Hyperlinks not working in PDf created from Keynote '08

When I produce a pdf from File > Print in Keynote '08, the hyperlinks do not work in the pdf. I have tried all the various pdf settings (even the ones that export hyperlinks) and no luck, the links are not working in the pdf. If I invoke the File > Export > PDf command in Keynote, the hyperlinks do work, but Export does not provide as much flexibility in PDF creation that File > Print does, thus my need to go to File > Print.
    Any suggestion?

Are you sure that you really entered a link when you created an Hyperlink?
The described one is the one which is used by default by every iWork's components.
We must enter the true one by ourselves.

  • How do I keep the original background color in a Keynote presentation after PDF?

My Keynote presentations have a grey background. But when I convert to PDF, it turns to black. Help?

    Hi jvtennis,
What are you using to convert your file to PDF? Are you using Acrobat or "printing" to PDF from Keynote?
Regardless, one thing to check is that you have Show Large Images selected in the Page Display settings in Acrobat or Reader.
