Pdf to Word conversion problems

I just tried to convert a pdf (in Italian) to Word.  What came out was a page of senseless symbols.  I tried converting to doc, docx, and rtf, and nothing worked.  What to do?

Some PDF files aren't convertible. Here's a simple test. Select some text on a page, and copy it, paste it into Word (or whatever).
Do you get good italian words, or the same sort of junk?

  • Maintaining Links in a PDF to Word Conversion

Is it possible to convert a PDF to Word using Acroabt X Pro so that all of the links in the PDF will work in the Word file?  The PDF was created from FrameMaker 9 files and contains many internal cross references. When I perform the conversion, the layout of the Word file looks great, but none of the links work.

    Not possible.

    Hi,
ExportPDF is not a downloadable software. It is an online web service user to convert PDF to other formats.
Kindly refer to below mentioned article and let me know if that helps.

  • Problem with missing column text - PDF to Word conversion

I just bought Acrobat Standard X and have a serious deadline to meet.  Problem is I converted a PDF with newspaper style columns to Word XP (2003) version and the first column of two will not budge with the right hand margin.  The text is there when prompted but some of the endings to words are being hidden.  I have tried putting an 'equal column width' command and it still doesn't work.  I have selected individual paragraphs to try and stretch out the margin to justify with the previous page alignment (which appears ideal) and it still will not do as I want.  On the ruler line, there is a blue gap between the columns and I can't get rid of it.  So, the first column insists on staying narrower than it should be and if I stretch it out to align with the other pages, it loses words I have typed until it reverts back to its original width.  Any ideas would be most welcome. This is a right pain in the butt. Thanks.

Alas your expectation is not reflective of what the application is capable of.
Acrobat's OCR has no concept of "styles". Nor does OCR provide Tagged content. As Acrobat's OCR does not incorporate a "zone" approach to character recognition the manual tagging of OCR output is non-trivial (and yes you'd have to do it manually).
Having the PDF content exported to Word you'll more quickly arrive at your "destination" by manual application of the desired core Word headings / styles. Now if *all* paper documents were the same type layout / format / etc it might be possible for a Word developer to script something to apply headings / styles programmatically.
    Be well....

  • PDF to Word Document problem

First time user on Acrobat 9 Pro and am trying to convert a PDF document (I'm not the author) to a Word document.
Once a word document I want to be able to edit or e-mail to a 3rd party to edit.
Each time I have attempted "save as" or export the following message appears and the document is saved as a picture (thus cannot be edited in word).
"Acrobat was able to make this document accessible but found the following oddities:
Some difficult pages were encountered requiring all graphics on those pages to be labeled as figures [1]."
Does this mean there is no way that the document can be converted to word and then edited or am I doing something wrong?
If anyone can advise I would be grateful.  Thanks

It sounds like you might just want to consider putting the scan or image save (if possible) in the header of a WORD document set at exact zero spacing and at the top of the page and with the image below the line. This should show the image on the rest of the page and you could then just type in WORD to your heart's content. In any case, the original form will likely have to be used in the final since most folks would not accept a made up form, particularly if they have secured it. The WORD trick is one I used to use to fill out a monthly form and have a record of what I had completed. I haven't done it for many years, but is a useful trick.
Just to demonstrate the point, I have put the first page of the IRS f1040 into a WORD file. The security on the form allowed for it to be saved as a TIFF and I just put the TIFF into the header of a DOC file. I changed the TIFF to be behind the text, and aligned at 0,0 of the margin (actually you might want to set your default margins first and then go from there, since a change of the margins will move the graphic). I then set the paragraph spacing in the header to exactly 1pt (you might be able to adjust this up, but might have to compensate for the TIFF alignment). You then go back to the document and type to your heart's content. The text should show on top of the graphic. You can do this with any graphic and it is a trick that few folks are aware of except for power users. I ran into it many years ago with a different word processor and found I had to set the paragraph to exact to make it work. With the WORD feature of having the graphic behind the text this may not be necessary.
I have posted it (at least for a few days) at http://wadavis.ece.vt.edu/f1040Sample.doc. I think this may meet your need. In the end, you likely will need to come back to the original for and fill in the full data for the folks that made the form. If you can not save as a graphic, then you will have to scan. If it is in black&white, you might try either B&W or grayscale to save space. In my example I did not bother with the conversion to B&W and the form page is 985kB. In B&W it is 158kB. Grayscale is about 2 times larger. That would have made my sample file a lot nicer to work with. In any case, this idea takes a bit of time, but can be effective. If you have a multi-page form, then you would add a section break to a new page and repeat the process using a different header (a bit confusing in WORD, but is easy to do once you figure out the correct choice). Good luck.

  • Save As PDF from Word - margin problems

    Hello,
I have a 4"x6" doc in Word with zero margins that I'd like to save as a PDF. When I try to save as a PDF a margin appears. How do I get rid of that margin?
    Thanks!

I think a picture would be helpful. Use the "camera" icon in the editor to show what you're getting.
After you create the PDF file from Word, what are the dimensions of the PDF? If you move your cursor in Acrobat to the bottom left of the PDF, it will display the PDF dimensions.

  • PDF to Word conversion

I have tried to convert the PDF file to word doc and docx but have received the following message both times: File failed to be converted using Adobe ExportPDF online.
Ok, so now what can I do?

    Hi TricoreManagement,
Sorry to hear you're having trouble! Are you having this issue with all files or just one?  If it's just one file, could you open the file in Adobe Reader and choose File > Document Properties.  Then share what it says next to the 'Application' and 'PDF Producer' lines.
    Thanks,

  • PDF to Word 2003 problem

I am running Acrobat 9 and Word 2003.  I want to export the .pdf file as a .doc file.  This has worked in the past, but currently doesn't.  I open the <file.pdf> file and then click export --> word.  The document initialized but the OCR doesn't run.  When I open the <file.doc>, it looks like an image.with the little box around it.  I also tried exporting to <file.rtf> and to <file.txt> with the same result.  What am I doing wrong here?

You have to run OCR in Acrobat first, then export. OCR is not typically run as part of the save as process unless I have missed something in the new versions.

  • Converting a PDF to Word- Conversion Failure

Everytime I try and convert a PDF from Reader and/or wwwcloud.acrobat.com it keeps coming back with a conversion failure?
    Any Help?

    Hi rusell1234,
Does the error occur with a specific PDF file, or with any file that you try to convert? Can you tell us a bit more about the file(s) that you're converting--how many pages, what sort of content it has (text/graphics/fonts).
For starters, please clear the browser cache and try again, or try converting from a different web browser. And, make sure that Reader is up-to-date by choosing Help > Check for Updates.
Please let us know how it goes.
    Best,

  • I signed up for pdf to word conversion in December and paid a yearly subscription. Not working?

Today when I go to convert a pdf (haven't done one in a long while) it keeps sending me to the subscription page.  I can't figure this out.    What am I missing here.  I should have several months left.  Where is the account info?

I decided to put it away last night and start fresh this morning with a fresh mind, as I had logged in, loaded into the cloud, etc. as I was prompted to do at every new screen.  This morning I took a new direction and  I logged in at Adobe.com, found my account management info (which I couldn't figure out how to access last night).  It appears that you don't have any services associated with my account at all, and that the version I was using was a free service?  However I have a record of paying Adobe $29.95 on December 9th.  What exactly did I pay for if I do not have any services in my account?  Below is the transaction from my visa.  Can you look into this for me, or should I go through the account management help service?

  • Edit document that was converted from PDF to Word Doc.

How do I edit a document that I converted from a PDF to a word document????? When I open my now "Word Document" it does not allow me to edit the text.

Bill, The PDF came from a scanning of a Word document, but my office did not produce the PDF and I don't know exactly how the original Word document was scanned, whether OCR was engaged at that stage, etc., but the select tool in Adobe Reader leads to the cross-hairs on the PDF. We are working without AA, and I was trying to convert the PDF back to an editable Word document through ExportPDF, with which I thought I had had some success in the past in similar circumstances (converting an image PDF back to an editable Word document). With this document, the conversion back to Word through ExportPDF has led to an uneditable Word document with text in image frames whether OCR is on or off in the PDF to Word conversion effort... and if there is a way to remove the frames in Word, but keep the text, I haven't "re"figured it out yet. For instance, triple clicking doesn't seem to do anything.
On this particular document, we've gone back to the old fashioned way of retyping the page that has the error in it ... and sticking it back in the document. (It also would have been smarter timewise for me in this case to have spent more time on tracking down the preceding Word document.)
Was I missing something in the conversion process from scanned image PDF to Word document with edit capabilities? Thanks!
    Dave
