PDF tool bar used to open Reader.

the pdf tool bar at the bottom of the screen used to let me open the current screen in Adobe Reader.  after the latest update, it now opens the file in Preview.
is there a way to change this back so that it opens in Reader?

When you have a lot of tabs open, Firefox stops showing the "x" on each tab. I think that was done so you could see more of the title. You still can close a tab by right-clicking it and choosing Close tab, or by pressing Ctrl+w to close it.
Is that the "x" you meant or is it a different one?

Also, Firefox crashes frequently. Is there a fix for this also?

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox 3.6 that prevents new tabs from being opened.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
    * Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
    * Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons
For the second issue, the [[Firefox crashes]] support article may help.

I am not sure what your problem is, can you give more details.
One possibility is you may be in full screen mode, for details on fixing that see the [[menu bar is missing]] article.
If you are missing various toolbar items, see the [[back and forward or other toolbar items are missing]] article.
If your problem is something else please give more details.

  • PDF Tool Bar Not Working in Safari

    Hi all:
I'm running Safari 5.1.3, Lion 10.7.3 on an iMac.
About a month ago (prior to upgrading to the latest OS yesterday), I noticed that on certain web sites, I am unable to save PDFs after they open up in a new Safari browser window.
This happens most often at Chase Bank.
On almost every other site, when I click on a PDF link, it opens in a new windown, and then if I hover my cursor at the bottom, a pop-up tool bar appears that allows me to save the PDF, which I can then view in Preview.
Unfortunately, this feature doesn't seem to work with Chase Bank anymore.
Is it a problem on their end?
    Are there any known solutions?
(I really enjoy having a clean machine, and don't want to install any third-party plug-ins like Adobe Acrobat.)
    Thanks for any help.

It looks to be an issue (one of many) with Chase's website.
Their site opens up statement documents in some sort specialized window that prevents the normal PDF view from initiating.
You can confirm this by choosing File >> Save As... from the Safari menus. You'll see that Safari wants you to save it as a "web archive" which means it is not detecting it as a PDF.
But there is an easy workaround:
If you right-click on the document when it appears, you can choose to open the PDF in a new window/tab, which will bring up the usual PDF controls, or you can choose to save the PDF directly to your Mac.

  • Hiding navigation panes (side bar) using metadata or reader setting?

    Hi all,
    as the title already mentioned,
I'm trying to get a pdf file generated using JasperReport displayed in the reader (within web browser) without the side bar/Nav. pane.
At first I thought that should be done from the reader configuraton/setting, but then I found out that that's not completely correct.
I can indeed hide the sidebar by using the parameter navpanes=0 as part of the URL. But this works only for version 6.* upwards(?).
Now, I have in my hand 2 pdf files which I opened using the same reader (ver. 8). And one file is being shown with and the other without the sidebar.
Can anyone please help me with any hints/idea?
ps: I attached screenshots from both of the files. The one with sidebar has also darker grey background (which I think is normal) and the other one without has a lighter gray background
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Brody

I wonder if anyone can tell me easily how to make the submenu's under the horizontal menu bar also appear horizontally?

  • Pdf tool bar in MS Word can not be removed

    Hi,
I have upgraded Acrobat Reader to 6.0 Standard, now I have the "pdfmaker" tool bar in MS Word in addition to the "Adobe pdf" item in the menu bar. When I delete the tool bar, it will appear again when the next word file is started. Deleting it in "normal.dot" did not help either. Any clue would be welcome, as I do not want to waste screen height with redundant information

    Hi Aandi,
My Acrobat is a single copy, aquired trough our IT service provider EDS. The info box accessed via the help button shows the following:
    Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard, Version 6.0.0 19.05.2003

  • Possible to overwrite a pdf when in use or open a pdf without holding/locking the file for update

Possible to overwrite a pdf when in use OR alternative open a pdf without holding/locking the file
We frequently generate pdf files from our 3D program and would like to know if it's possible to either open a pdf file in a way that it doesn't get locked or hold up so the pdf can be updated even when opened or in use.
Most programs e.g. ultra edit & notepad will let go the file when you opened and hence the file can be updated or over written even when in use.
If any guru can help, would be highly appreciated

    Hi Abbas,
It's not possible to overwrite a pdf when it is already in use by a different program or user. The file then opens up in Read Only mode.
You can make a copy of the file and then apply those changes later in the original file. That's the only possible solution.

  • Creating PDF tool bar in Autocad Architecture 2009

How do I get the Adobe tool bar and pulldown menus on my Architecture 2009 screen. When we were running ADT 2005 and then loaded Adobe 8 Prof. the pulldown menus and Adobe tool bars appeared on the screen. Now that we have upgraded to Archit. 2009 I cannot get them to show up. I've tried menuload in Archt. but Adobe tool bars are not there, I've done a repair install on Adobe and still no luck. I can create pdfs thru the plot command but the tool bar is so much more convenient. Thank you.

Thank you very much for this link. Architecture 2009 runs on Autocad 2007, which is compatible, but there must be something in Arch. that prevents it because we just cannot get the pdf maker button to appear. Our Autocad support folks don't know either. I don't know why it is so difficult to get an answer to this we can't be the only ones trying to do this.

  • Hide tool bars using Mozilla.cfg file

I am looking to hide all tool bars in Firefox. Lock it down...
I want to load it into a Mozilla.cfg file but can't fine them in About:config file.
Can some one point me to the right names?

    Why?
The appearance or non-appearance of toolbars is not stored as a preference, but instead is stored in the localstore.rdf file, which is specific to a profile. I don't know whether there is a locking mechanism for that.
Much of Firefox is amenable to modification using style rules in userChrome.css. These files also are specific to a profile, but might be another route to consider.
If you search for kiosk extensions, you may find some more tools and guidance.

    Look at this comprehensive trouble shooting document;

I suggest that you start with SMC and PRAM resets.
    Then  a Safe Boot.

  • Tool bars too small to read

I just downloaded adobe creative suites cs6 and my illustrator and photoshop's tool bars are very small. I can read them but they are not at normal settings. I installed the 64-bit version so i do not know if that has anything to do with it becuase i am running windows 8.1 on a mac book 13" with retina display. Has anyone had this problem before? The programs are working just fine so I just want to make the viewing tabs larger since I am working on a small screen.

No way. The Windows versions of CS6 do not support high-DPI displays. Only the Mac versions of Photoshop and Illustrator du support Retina by ways of respective updates in CS6. You will have to lower your screen resolution.

  • I have a theme, that shows more of it self, the more tool bars I have open so in an older version I added many blank tool bars, how can I do this?

Had to reinstall OS and everything on it including fire fox, but nothing looks the same.
I think I was using version 28, I had like six blank tool bars, and now with the customize feature I don't know how to get them back.
I'm also missing the large Icons for Home, back forward like I had in 28, and I can't find a refresh button anywhere that isn't a part of my address bar.
Is there any way to fix all this?

The Classic Theme Restorer add-on provides most features you're looking for.
    * [[How to make the new Firefox look like the old Firefox]]
With Classic Theme Restorer, you can only have one additional toolbar though. You could use a user style to enlarge the last toolbar instead. For example, if the last toolbar is the Bookmarks Toolbar:
    # Install Stylish and restart Firefox when prompted.
    # Click the ≡ Menu Button and choose Add-ons.
    # In the Add-ons Manager, click User Styles on the left.
    # Click the Write New Style button at the top. Paste the following in the text box, give the style a name, then click the Save button.
    <pre><nowiki>
    @namespace url(http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul);
    #PersonalToolbar { padding-bottom: 100px !important; }
    </nowiki></pre>
If you don't want to install an add-on, you can use the ''userChrome.css'' file instead, but I don't recommend it.
