How do I limit the file type for others to download when uploading a PDF?

MarcD_harborfreight, If your question is about restricting a specific file type from downloading, then the answer will be No. You cannot restrict a particular type of file but you can restrict that particular pdf file by unchecking the "Allow file download" option while sharing it with others.

Acrobat isn't available with a server license. You might like to look into PitStop Server.

However, also check whatever font you are using to ensure its license includes embedding. I don't think that (license) is an issue because the catalog itself displays fine--however I could also have the used font(s) on my local system and that would still display fine.
If regenerating it with fully embedded fonts results in the same problem, I would contact the people responsible for the conversion and see how they pull the product description data from the flash/PDF. It just seems to me that it is their issue because they are pulling data and formatting it in the search results in perhaps a different font.

PDF Uploaded to website user can't read

So here is the issue, used MS Word to create a PDF, uploaded to my website for customer to download.
Works great on my computer with latest version of Adobe Reader, others no such luck.
Get all ?????? or simply won't load or print.

In a background activity step you do it. And if the path has to be given by the user then identify the path in a background step and
send that to a method where you want to upload.
If you want to go ahead using portal, the link that process through a Webdynpro application and upload it.

While uploading file to document library, the file type doesn’t affect the time to upload the document to SharePoint.
Some other reasons will affect the time to upload the document to SharePoint, such as the size of document , the network speed and the performance of the Server when uploading the document.

PDF upload problems

When I try and publish my Adobe Muse site as a temp site in Adobe Business Catalyst, it always gets hung up on my pdf I have as a linked file on my site.

When it gets to the pdf, it takes 30 seconds before it gives me the error. Also, I don’t know if this means anything
but I also get the following messege before it will let me publish:
This Adobe Business Catalyst site you are publishing to has changed.
Would you like to review and merge the changes before publishing.
It gives me an option to Publish or Review. I have been selecting review and it then syncs of some files and
gives my the option to publish again, which I then publish.
It had always hung for this long and givin me an error.
May mean nothing, just thought I would let you know.
Also, I am on a PC –Windows 7 professional
I'm wondering, should I upload the entire site without the PDF, then upload just the PDF by itself?

PDF Upload using Upload UI in WD ABAP take infinite time

I am trying to upload a PDF file in my WD ABAP Application. I have created a WD View like this .
I have created a File upload UI and an Interactive Form .
My Context structure looks like this .
CONTEXT
-> PDF_DATASOURCE
-> NAME
-> PDFSOURCE ( Type XSTRING )
-> FILECONENT ( Type XSTRING )
I have bound pdf_datasource and pdfsource to my interactive form and file content to file upload UI.
When I upload any file and then transfer the data from filecontent to pdfcontent on action of a button Upload PDF.
data content type xstring.
wd_context->get_attribute( exporting name = 'FILECONTENT' importing value = content ).
wd_context->set_attribute( name = 'PDFSOURCE' value = content ).
When This Action is executed it page take infinite time to transfer the content .
Please let me if I am missing any thing to transfer the uploaded file content to PDF content and show the form in the view .

PDF upload in field

Hi everybody,
I do have the following problem:
I want to create a PDF-File with placeholders (fields??), so that a User is able to upload another PDF that is then shown at the palceholder. Afterwards that "updated" PDF should be saved as a PDF that is not editable. Is this possible?

You certainly can't place a PDF file within a page of another PDF file in the same way you can place one in Word, for example; but with Acrobat you can insert pages from one file in between the pages of another.

Word Count/PDF uploads

I am very new to LiveCycle Designer. A form has been was previously created and I need to add additional items. Currently, I need to add a word count to a text field. Does anyone have a script that they are currently using for the word count? Also, can you create and option where the form will allow an upload anything other than a jpeg to the form (like a word.doc or pdf)?

You should ask these questions in the LiveCycle Designer forum. This one is for forms created in Acrobat (Acroforms).
But I'll take a stab at the upload question here. If you mean that you want to allow the user to attach a file to the PDF, then there are two ways if it needs to work with Reader. The first involves Reader-enabling the form with LiveCycle Reader Extensions, which has the option of adding the file attachments usage right. This usage right cannot be added when enabling the document with Acrobat. If the form is a static XFA, as opposed to dynamic, then if you enable the document so that commenting is allowed, then users can attach files as comments.

PDF Upload and Downloads in Muse designed BC websites

This shouldn't be as difficult as it is in the otherwise intuitive Muse interface. I want to upload a PDF to my BC hosted Muse designed website and make it linked and available for use. But the FTP upload process isn't working. Help?

Never did connect with FTP. But was able to load my PDF directly thru Muse software upload once I found thru another post that you could hyperlink to a file that was not an HTML page in the hyperlink dropdown menu. Only after finding that the
"link to file" option was supposed to be there did I scroll down my full list of already crafted html files for the site and see the option "link to file" at the bottom. It was easy from there. In a software update I would suggest reserving space at the bottom of the hyperlink dropbox such that the "link to file" option is always visible no matter how many recent links or other html pages are already done or recently used..
Thankfully direct FTP is not yet needed by me - I am a former GoLive user and never had trouble with FTP uploads there - I think the problem is in the handshaking with the Adobe site.
Thanks for the response though, and keep tweaking the Muse. Good little program.

PDF uploaded into webdynpro application successfully, but unable to open it

Dear colleagues,
We have developed a webdynpro appllication in which there is a functionality to add attachments from our local file to the WD applicaiton and save it. Now the error is that we are able to upload the attachmnets successfully and save it, but when we try to view the file which we upload from the WD application, it gives error message and we are unable to view it. For example, I have PDF form which was uploaded successfully into the WD application and save it. Later when I try to open the PDF form to view it(from the WD application), the adobe reader is opened, but gives error message 'There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired' and we could not view the contents of the file. Please help me in this regard.
Note: The PDF file has no errors before uploading into the WD application. Similar kind of error is shown for other file formats also - like *.docx, *.xlsx, *.pdf, *.docm, *.ppt, *.pptx etc.
Please suggest us how to overcome this error.

Hi Vijay,
are you using business document service to upload the file? There are BAPIs available to save and read the business documents. we used the same concept in our WDA to save and read the attachements to equipment master ie use can see the attachment in IE03 created via WD application and from another WDA, user can read it.

I am trying to upload a PDF file and send to the external Mail Id . Mail has been send correctly but at the time of viewing the attachment PDF reader gives the following message
There was an error opening the document . The file is damaged and could not be repaired.
Fbs GUI_UPLOAD is used .
