• Supported pdf versions and mouse over problem for Xcelsius 2008 SP3

Hi,
Have below queries regarding Xcelsuis 2008 SP3.
(1) Encountered last character truncation problem for the x-axis and y-axis labels when viewed using adobe reader versions higher than 9.0.0. Viewing the pdf doc using adobe reader v9.0.0 has no label truncation problem. Preview in Xcesius is also ok.
(a) Y-axis label - eg. No. of students. The last char [s] is truncated when exported to pdf.
(b) X-axis label u2013 when labels are oriented vertically, they are very close to the x-axis. The last char is truncated.
Please advise what is the supported pdf versions for Xcelsius 2008?
Any workaround to overcome the truncation problem?
(2) Mouseover in charts. When the series name has < symbol, Xcelsius truncates the remaining text that's after the < symbol.
Is this a limitation that < symbol cannot be used? Any workarond for this? Any document to reference on the limitations of Xcelsius? e.g. If series name is '>1 and <=2', mouse over desc becomes '>1 and '.
Thanks and Regards.

Hi ,,There are a lot of developments in SP3 version. But some loopholes which I caughtu2026
1. The value button/spinner is no longer supporting a cell having some formula. Also the time it is taking to load data which depends on value button/spinner as a result of change in it, is comparably very high as compared to earlier version.
2. Still there is no component like pre-load animation. So it is difficult to know weather the tool is running or not when one selects an option in some selector.
3. One still finds it difficult to work with a large range of data/complex spread sheet in xcelsius as it crashes while exporting.
4. Export to excel still needs Tomcat Web server,Java help. It is not simplified.

• Versioning and parallel development streams for worldwide SAP roll-out

Hi SDN folks,
My customer is in the process of a worldwide roll-out of SAP. They have a transport environment for ECC that looks like this:
D  -
>    QA  -
>  R   -
>   P
We have SAP Charm installed and running in solution manager - to manage the creation of transports in the D system.
The problem we are facing is how to manage parallel development changes and configuration changes.
For example - if we have developers working on a change that is in test in the QA environment - and we hit a production emergency in P - we then need to make an emergency change to the P version (which would only be available in P and R) - and transport this change through to P - in the process - overwriting the changes that our developers are working on in the D and QA environments.
We also have the issue of objects for multiple countries being developed and configured in parallel - and so there will be version conflicts up the to the QA system as well.
Is there any kind of solution for the management of parallel development streams - and versioning - for all custom code / development objects and for configuration changes(other than introducing a second development system)?
Is there any kind of 3rd party product for SAP that helps to solve this issue?
Currently we are considering development freezes, manually renaming objects with versioning identifiers (will only work for some objects), manual backups of versions. - none of these seem to be a tidy universal solution, is there one?
Any help / directions you can offer will be appreciated,
many thanks,
Julian

Hi Julian,
Thanks for the clarification!
Managing production support and new development after go live is always a challenge. It can be addressed in many ways, but it is most important to create a set of rules and stick to the procedure. If you do not want a "second" landscape, you are going to have objects "overwritten" in the D and Q systems when you need to make a production fix -- as you must revert the object in D to the P version to make the fix. Even with a second landscape, objects will have to be merged somehow when a fix is promoted to production.
As I said above, what you can do is have your developers save their current development in released transports before making the production fix. This saves a version that must be merged with the fix, anyway. That is:
Object A is the produciton version and must be fixed.
Object A' is the current development version (unfinished) and is saved into a released transport request.
In D, Object A' is reverted to the A version and corrected for the production error, creating object A'' that is promoted to production.
Object A' and A'' are manually "merged" into A''' as the new current development version.
Yes, objects are overwritten with this method. However, you can always retrieve what has been overwritten since it has been saved in a released transport.
Another option is to bypass Q for production fixes. I.e. D -> R -> P. However, this invalidates the objects in Q until the merged version is created in D and transported to Q.
In any method you choose to do this -- dual development landscapes or not -- discipline and managment are a must.
Best Regards,
Matt

Can you provide the URL to the problematic instructions?
The JDBC URL should probably be: jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:XE
And one more thing - your JDeveloper is installed in a directory that has a space in its name (Program Files) - this may cause problems so reinstall it in a new directory without a space in the path.

• Why are web developer tools not available on Firefox for Android?

I do some freelance web design. I just replaced my laptop with a tablet last year (Samsung Galaxy 10.5 S). I want to do web development on it - I work from a terminal doing Ruby on Rails and web development all the time. It would be awesome to have the F12 developer tools handy in Firefox for Android, but sadly I've waited for a while and there is no indication they will ever appear.
Do NOT suggest using a remote debugger - I'm not testing the layout of pages on my tablet, I want to be able to profile, view source (without an add-on) and such. I have seen this exact question marked closed by suggesting remote debugging, and I fail to see how telling me to use my tablet next to a laptop or desktop is a solution. Telling me to carry a second device means I don't need the tablet at all, when my intention is to ONLY use the tablet.
My tablet has a huge screen resolution and a powerful processor - more powerful than some laptops? Why is Firefox for Android neutered? I would understand disabling it by default to help those with less powerful devices, but why remove something that would add a competitive edge to your product, and is already integrated in desktop Firefox and has been for years? I prefer Firefox, but if Chrome adds web developer tools for Android first, I'll switch to Chrome.
There are people today using a tablet as their sole computing device. Please do not relegate us to a second-class Firefox experience!
Thanks,
Ryan

• Correct root XML node for adf-settings.xml?

I'm finding contradictory documentation for what the root XML node of the adf-settings.xml file should be:
1) Frank & Lynn's Oracle Fusion Dev Guide on pg93: <adf-settings>
2) Fusion Dev Guide Example 21-2: <adf-config>
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/web.1111/b31974/adf_lifecycle.htm#CHDHCBGF
3) Fusion Web Guide Example A-6: <adf-settings>
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/web.1111/b31973/ap_config.htm#BABCBJAB
From my own testing only #2 appears to work as follows:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<adf-config xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/config">
<adfc-controller-config xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/controller/config">
<lifecycle>
<phase-listener>
<listener-id>MyAdfListener</listener-id>
<class>waosr.common.view.MyAdfListener</class>
</phase-listener>
</lifecycle>
</adfc-controller-config>
</adf-config>...though it seems contradictory that the root node of the adf-settings.xml file is adf-config. Am I doing something wrong or is this intended?
With thanks,
CM.
PS. JDev 11.1.1.2.0

Chris,
I can confirm that
<adf-config xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/config">
<adfc-controller-config xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/controller/config">
xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/controller/config">
<lifecycle>
<phase-listener>
<listener-id>AdfInteractiveAppListener</listener-id>
<class>adf.interactiv.view.AdfInteractiveAppListener</class>
</phase-listener>
</lifecycle>
</adfc-controller-config>
</adf-config>
works. I did re-run the sample I wrote for the book and that worked by then - and now needs the change. I need a bit to follow up on whether the book and the web developer guide are wrong or if the ADF framework has it wrong. I can't believe that it got documented wrong two time - so there either has been a format change later on, or there is an issue with the current implementation.

• Looking for ADF detailed API and Components Docs

Hi Gurus! I am trying some hands on with the tutorial application (http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/ADF_tutorial_1013/index.htm) with JDeveloper 10.1.33.
For developing new ADF application, I was trying to find ADF related documentation, but I was only able to find the documentation for ADF 11G (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/adf/index.html). This page does not have any API doc, or component details.
Now my question is, if I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3.3, which version of ADF I am using? For that version, where do I get complete documentation - ADF API docs, ADF Ui components docs etc.
Suppose, in the tutorial application, classes like
oracle.binding.BindingContainer, oracle.jbo.uicli.binding.JUCtrlValueBindingRef etc. are used. Where do I find complete API reference doc.
Also where can I find ADF UI components(PanelPage, PanelBox etc.) detailed docs and their usages.
Also, please point me to any other useful ADF related documentation/tutorial, if you know.
Thanks

For most of the pages on the JDev site you'll find a link to older product versions toward the end of the page.
For example on the ADF Faces page there is a link at the end titled: Oracle ADF Faces Components 10.1.3 Information
Which will take you here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/adf/adffaces/adffaces1013.html
Where you can find the tag and API doc for ADF Faces.
There is indeed a little problem with getting to the ADF Developer Guide for 10.1.3 in an easy way.
In any case the book is here:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B25947_01/toc.htm

• Are Oracle going to build a Webutil library for ADF ?

Hi,
We have a customer who has a forms app that uses Webutil to interact with many things such as the registry, DLL's etc.
One obstacle we have in trying to sell a rewrite in ADF to them is the lack of Webutil-type functionality in ADF. If Oracle developed a Webutil library for ADF we would be able to sell the product much easier.
Do any of you Oracle guys know if it is on the cards ?
cheers
Edited by: Dom Klein on Nov 2, 2009 11:29 AM

Hi,
Would you explain what "Forms is already on the page" mean? Thanks.
This means that if you want to integrate Forms with ADF and Forms is embedded as an Applet on an ADF page
BTW: There should be a mechanism that would allow ADF to have trusted access to client machines.
ADF has nothing to do with this. In general HTML based content cannot access the client desktop except for file uploads for security reasons. If browser vendors could agree on a standard that allows signed JavaScript to perform trusted client access then this could be solved. However, signed JavaScript is only supported by Netscape browsers and is not available anywhere else. In Java Applets, like Forms uses it, the Applet sources are signed - as there is a standard for this - allowing Java to access the client.
Webutil was a significant breakthrough for Forms.
Yes. It is a corner stone that bridged the functionality gap between client server and web based forms
I'm currently slogging through various ADF tutorials. the documentation is ALL OVER THE PLACE. I'm struggling with trying to find a way gain access to the current application instance that would give me access to active view objects. The ADF documentation is PAINFULLY opaque on this issue for this newbie.
Forms had 2 developer guides to the time we printed manuals (a basic introduction and an advanced manual). Adding the Graphics guide and the Reports guise, all in all the documentation was provided in 4 books. ADF and the related technologies are way more complex for a beginner, but once understood also more powerful than Forms. The main documentation - surprise surpise - is provided in 4 books. The ADF developer guide, the Web developer guide, the desktop integration guide and the mobile development guide. As a beginner, the first two guides is what you need - start with the ADF developer guide.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/dev.htm
Related documentation, which is runtime specific, is then provided in the FMW documentation

Do anyone know where I can find an Admin/Developer guide for Webtools 2007? It has been almost impossible to set up webtools without any guide to explain how to start.

Hello Russ,
Are you simply trying to skin the site, or are you developing custom ASP.NET controls?
For a quick way to get started with skinning the site (building a theme) take a look at this thread/webex:

• Can I move web developer tools out of the sub-menu and back into 'tools'?

I'm sure there are many who like this new sub menu for web developer, but for me it's a waste of time. Is there an option to allow me to move the contents of "Tools->Web developer" back into tools? It would save me time and, I might actually start liking a firefox vision other than 3.6.. Thanks

Hi Crewman06, you wrote:
''the extension suggested does not allow for the kind of change to the menu structure that I'm looking for.''
The extension's UI doesn't let you dive into submenus, but you can "hack" the extension's RDF data file. For example, to move the Web Console to the bottom of the Tools menu, you can insert a new <NC> item for it, e.g., as the first <NC> item in the file menuedit.rdf:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<RDF:RDF xmlns:NC="http://home.netscape.com/NC-rdf#"
xmlns:RDF="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#">
<NC:Menuitem RDF:about="http://home.netscape.com/NC-rdf#webConsole"
NC:Visibility="visible"
NC:Name="Web Console" />
Then you can edit the listing in the file for the Tools menu by adding it to the bottom:
<RDF:Seq RDF:about="NC:menu_ToolsPopup">
''{lines omitted}''
<RDF:li RDF:resource="http://home.netscape.com/NC-rdf#webConsole"/>
</RDF:Seq>
That's a pain, but at least it's an option if you want to use it.
For reference, here are some of the others -- the id and name you will need to create the NC entries:
#menu_devToolbar = Developer Toolbar
#menu_pageinspect = Inspect
#menu_responsiveUI = Responsive Design View
#menu_debugger = Debugger
#menu_remoteDebugger = Remote Debugger
#menu_ChromeDebugger = Browser Debugger
#menu_scratchpad = Scratchpad
#menu_styleeditor = Style Editor
#menu_pageSource = Page Source
#javascriptConsole = Error Console
