    Hi All,

  • Supported pdf versions and mouse over problem for Xcelsius 2008 SP3

    Hi,
Have below queries regarding Xcelsuis 2008 SP3.
    (1) Encountered last character truncation problem for the x-axis and y-axis labels when viewed using adobe reader versions higher than 9.0.0. Viewing the pdf doc using adobe reader v9.0.0 has no label truncation problem.  Preview in Xcesius is also ok.
    (a) Y-axis label - eg. No. of students. The last char [s] is truncated when exported to pdf.
    (b) X-axis label u2013 when labels are oriented vertically, they are very close to the x-axis. The last char is truncated.
Please advise what is the supported pdf versions for Xcelsius 2008?
Any workaround to overcome the truncation problem?
    (2) Mouseover in charts. When the series name has < symbol, Xcelsius truncates the remaining text that's after the < symbol.
Is this a limitation that < symbol cannot be used? Any workarond for this? Any document to reference on the limitations of Xcelsius? e.g. If series name is '>1 and <=2', mouse over desc becomes '>1 and '.
    Thanks and Regards.

Hi ,,There are a lot of developments in SP3 version. But some loopholes which I caughtu2026
    1. The value button/spinner is no longer supporting a cell having some formula. Also the time it is taking to load data which depends on value button/spinner as a result of change in it, is comparably very high as compared to earlier version.
    2. Still there is no component like pre-load animation. So it is difficult to know weather the tool is running or not when one selects an option in some selector.
    3. One still finds it difficult to work with a large range of data/complex spread sheet in xcelsius as it crashes while exporting.
    4. Export to excel still needs Tomcat Web server,Java help. It is not simplified.

  • PDDocSaveWithParams does not change PDF version from 1.8 (Acrobat 9, Acrobat X) to 1.4

    Dear all,
this post seems similar to this discussion:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/1160826#1160826
    but it is not.
Our customers prepare documents to be presented at regulatory  authorities, and it is required that these documents have PDF Version  1.4, are linearized, etc. In a plug-in we change the document properties accordingly. This used to work fine with Acrobat versions from 6 to 9. Then came Acrobat X.
We detected the problem with a document created with Acrobat PDFMaker 10.0 for Word: a very simple 1-page 3-lines document with no Acrobat X features.
When using Acrobat X, after calling PDDocSaveWithParams, the PDF version was not changed as required. (We check this calling PDDocGetVersion from the plugin after saving.)
Doing the same conversion with Acrobat 9 seemed to be OK: PDDocGetVersion reported PDF Version 1.4.
But when opening the converted document in Acrobat X, it still reported "PDF Version: 1.7 Extension Level 8 (Acrobat X.x)".
Opening it in a text editor showed that the header was "%PDF-1.4", but it still had "<</Extensions<</ADBE<</BaseVersion/1.7/ExtensionLevel 8>>>>..."
With Acrobat 8 and below, the version could not be downgraded, but this was reported correctly.
Downgrading the version directly via the "Optimize" function of Acrobat X worked.
I could not test Acrobat 9, since I have no Professional version available.
In Acrobat 8 Prof, I saw the message "This file appears to use a new format that this version of Acrobat does not support.", and the "Optimize" function was disabled.
Now I have the following questions:
    (1) Is it a known problem that PDDocSaveWithParams does not downgrade the version with Acrobat X ?
    (2) Is it a known problem that PDDocSaveWithParams does not downgrade correctly with Acrobat 9 ?
    (3) Is it a known problem that Acrobat9 wrongly reports the PDF Version of the document, in this case ?
    (4) Why is downgrading (or optimizing) disabled for Acrobat 8 and below ?
    Thank you !

Remember that as of PDF 1.4, the version number in the PDF header can be overridden via a /Version key in the /Catalog dictionary.  In addition, the presence of an /Extension dictionary (ISO 32000-1) will also override the header version.
The header version is JUST A HINT - it is NOT a guarantee of any sort.
Based on both of the above, neither of your "bugs" are bugs.
Acrobat 9 (and I assume X as well) are reporting correctly. If you have a PDF that you believe IS being reported incorrectly, please post!
If the Extensions dict is present, the Save command will NOT override it since it takes precedence.

  • Why does Preview save as PDF version 1.3 instead of version 1.7 sometimes?

I've noticed something very strange in Mountain Lion when saving a downloaded PDF in Preview.  If I download a PDF to my downloads folder and open it in Preview and get info it says it's PDF version 1.7 and it's about 400 kb . If I then "save as" to my folder it saves it as PDF version 1.3 in a much smaller file save  82 kb.
Why is this happening when I use "save as" rather than just dragging and dropping it from my downloads folder to another folder where it keeps it as version 1.7 and 400 kb ?
Why would Preview save it as version 1.3 instead of the latest version of PDF - very odd?
    Thanks

    Lance000 wrote:
Etresoft - that doesn't seem right - are you sure that Mac's only option is to save a PDF v. 1.3 when there are PDFs that are already at v. 1.7?
I was sure, but I was wrong. Upon closer inspection, the "%PDF-1.3" you see in the PDF isn't the whole story. The actual version can be specified elsewhere. It seems Mavericks actually generates PDF version 1.4. Of course, that's not much difference, is it?
Generally, I think Apple is aiming for cross-platform support with the widest audience instead of all the advanced features that Adobe wants to throw in. Apple views PDF as legacy print technology. If you need more than what Apple provides, you can always buy Acrobat.
Here is an old marketing flyer from Adobe showing how much more you would get with Acrobat. It is from the Tiger era but you can see there is a whole lot that isn't implemented. But if you bought Acrobat, you would be in the position Apple doesn't want. You would create and send people PDF 1.7 files and they wouldn't be able to read them. What do you do? Tell them to buy Acrobat? It is a common theme here in Apple Support Communities whenever a new OS version arrives. People everywhere suddenly can't print, read PDFs, or do just about anything PDF related. That is because they had previously download Acrobat and it breaks with each OS update.

  • PDF version 1.5/Acrobat 6.0

    Hello folks,
There is an interesting new feature in pdf 1.5 which is the possibility to capture both the full layout of a scanned document AND its OCR'ed version (the text of the document).
This is a very interesting feature for Document Management solutions but in my current installed version (9.2.0.4), it is not working (as documented) as the latest supported pdf version is 1.4.
In the documentation of the 10g release, it seems that 1.5 pdf are supported. And there does not seem to be restrictions about this feature.
Before planning a migration to 10g with my customer, I would like to know if someone has already succeeded in indexing such a pdf (mixed image (of the text) and OCR'ed text). If yes, in which exact version of the database?
    Thank you in advance
    Daniel

    Hi,
What is your requirement for doing the OCR using Adobe? If you use the INSO_FILTER (AUTO_FILTER in later releases), Oracle Text is able to index the text without going through the mess of extracting/storing the text separate from the file. So, if your reason for using the OCR feature is so that the doc can be indexed, it can actually be indexed without separating text from PDF (the filter actually does this). See:
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/text.102/b14218/afilsupt.htm#CCREF1300
You don't have to do anything fancy for this:
    1) create your table and insert the data/pdf
    2) create your preferences and index (be sure to specify the filter parameter) on the column where you are storing the pdf (can be blob or bfile...no problem)
    3) search
Was there another reason for wanting to Adobe's OCR feature, or did this cover it for you?
    Thanks,
    Ron

  • WLC: which software-version support SHA2 certificates for Web Authentification and Web Management ?

    Hello,
I tried to install new SHA2 3th-Party certificates on our WLCs. There are old WiSM1-Boards and 2504 to support our old 1230 Access Points, running 7.0.251.2, which didn't install it, although the config manual for 7.6 and 8.0 say that SHA2 certificates are supported since 7.0.250.0. When I tried to install the SHA2-certificates I get the message "File transfer failed" an the log says:
    *TransferTask: Dec 12 13:22:14.394: #UPDATE-3-CERT_INST_FAIL: updcode.c:1869 Failed to install Webauth certificate. rc = 1
*TransferTask: Dec 12 13:22:14.394: #SSHPM-3-KEYED_PEM_DECODE_FAILED: sshpmcert.c:4085 Cannot PEM decode private key
I tried to install the same certificates on our WiSM2-Boards, running 7.4.121.0 and I failed too. The same certificates could be installed on a 2504 running 8.0.100 without any problems.
In all 3 cases I tried to install unchained certificates for web management and Level 3 chained certificates  for web authentication. I used the following guides to get the certificates (e.g. taken from the config manual 8.0.100):
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/4400-series-wireless-lan-controllers/109597-csr-chained-certificates-wlc-00.html
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless-mobility/wlan-security/70584-csr-wlc-00.pdf
Which software versions support SHA2 certificates and which didn't ? Is the a list for it ?
    Regards

    Hello,
I solved the problem. First I used a Debian Linux system with Openssl 1.0.1. After I searched the internet using one of the log messages above I found sites which mentioned to use Openssl 0.9.x. So I tried a productive and security fixes Debian Linux System running Openssl 0.9.8 and I succeeded. The wlcs accepted the certificate files and used it after a reboot. The Web GUI still shows a SHA1 Fingerprint, but the certificate signature Algorithm is SHA2:
    Signature Algorithm: sha256WithRSAEncryption
When you check the openssl.org homepage Openssl 0.9.8 is still one of the actual version of openssl and is still available and fixed. But the Openssl Roadmap says:
"We don't want to have to maintain too many branches. This is likely to include a timescale for the EOL of version 0.9.8"
I don't know the differences between certificates made with openssl 0.9.8 and 1.0.1. Is there anybody who can explain it to me ?

  • PDF/VT Support in InDesign CS 5.5

Is there PDF/VT export in InDesign now that CS 5.5 is out? Is there a similar upgrade to InDesign Server? Is there a good resource for the differences between PDF and PDF/VT?
    Thanks,
    Bob

First, let's differentiate between PDF/X-4:2008 and PDF/X-4:2010. In terms of the ISO standards, PDF/X-4:2010 replaces (not supplements) the PDF/X-4:2008 standard. The PDF/X-4:2010 standard loosens some restrictions on how one can express layers in PDF/X-4 and allows layers to be expressed the same way they are in InDesign documents (and for that matter, Illustrator files). There were also some clarifications and corrections applied to the actual text of the standard. There are no physical differences in how PDF/X-4:2008 and how PDF/X-4:2010 files are “marked.” And the good news is that all valid PDF/X-4:2008 files are valid PDF/X-4:2010 files. However, vice versa is not true! This isn't a problem since there is no such thing as PDF/X-4:2008 in terms of the ISO standard.
In terms of what you see in InDesign 7.5, all PDF/X-4 files, despite what the joboptions claim, are actually PDF/X-4:2010 and will allow for layers. InDesign no longer restricts the PDF to PDF 1.4 (again, regardless of what the joboptions say), and allows for JPEG2000 image compression and automatically applies much higher compression to the non-image sections of the PDF file. In the next major release of InDesign, I think you'll see that the joboptions are properly labelled in terms of PDF/X-4:2010 support and there won't be PDF/X-4:2008 joboptions at all.
Secondly, the relationship of PDF/X-5:2010 to PDF/X-5:2008 is exactly the same as PDF/X-4:2010 to PDF/X-5:2008. The PDF/X-5:2010 standard totally replaces the PDF/X-5:2008 standard and provides the same “upgrades” and PDF/X-4:2010 provides for PDF/X-4:2008.
However, I know of no way that you can directly export PDF/X-5 files from InDesign. The PDF/X-5:2010 support is only for the SDK to allow creation of PDF/VT-2 files.
Third, per my original response, the PDF/VT support (both PDF/VT-1 - fully self-contained PDF/VT - and PDF/VT-2 - using PDF/X-5 for external PDF objects known as Reference XObjects) is only available in the SDK.
And finally, in terms of marketing bullet points, I'm just a dumb engineer here and not even part of the InDesign organization. But yes, they don't tell the whole story. I don't think they intentionally wrote this one to mislead, but most likely, those who wrote the marketing collateral probably didn't quite understand any of this at all.
Note that for Illustrator and Photoshop in CS5, the PDF/X-4 that is output has not changed, i.e. it is restricted to the features of PDF/X-4:2008. Hopefully this will be fixed for the next full versions of those programs (i.e., not a commitment). Also note that Acrobat X Pro fully supports PDF/X-4:2010 and PDF/X-5:2010. The preflight support in Acrobat 9 Pro will fail any PDF/X-4:2010 file that has layers per the relaxed rules of PDF/X-4:2010.
All versions of RIPs and printers from our OEM partners using the Adobe PDF Print Engine should be capable of supporting PDF/X-4:2010 and PDF/X-5:2010 (assuming that the OEM has enabled PDF/X-4 and PDF/X-5 support). Full support for PDF/VT-1 and PDF/VT-2 which are based on PDF/X-4:2010 and PDF/X-5:2010 is available via the Adobe PDF Print Engine 2.5 now beginning to appear in our OEMs' products.
    Clear as mud now?

I'm looking for a pdf version of the NI-DAQ 6.9.1 Function Reference, is there one available? All I can find so far is the online help. thanks!

    Hi,
I've got a feeling that the latest version of NI-DAQ FRM in .pdf format is 6.6 (file 321645e.pdf on the software / hardware PDF support library CDs).
The Start->Program->National Instruments->Ni-daq->NI-DAQ Help is all there is, but it does contain all the relevant information.
If you could find a program to convert a help file into a .pdf, you'll need to e-mail [email protected]

  • Preview PDF Specification Support

I am a developer working on a PDF writing tool for a different platform and am having some compatibility troubles with PDFs generated by the tool and read in Preview.app. They function correctly in other PDF readers, but not in Preview. Specifically, I've been unable to get PDF Actions and ObjStm objects to render (The exact same PDF renders fine in other readers).
Does anyone know what version of the PDF specification Preview.app (or the OS X PDF libraries) supports? Is there support for ObjStm or PDF actions in the OS X PDF libs?
I wasn't sure if this is the right place to ask, since this is a dev question. I figured since it's not related to OS X development, I'd try here first though.
    Thanks!

The best place for dev questions is probably the dev forums:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=727
I understand the OS X pdf function does 1.3 normally and 1.4 if there is transparency.
In my experience Preview is definitely not a complete substitute for Adobe Reader.

  • How to reduce the pdf version & how to remove all the pre-delivered field from a pdf file.

    Hi Team,
    1) Please help me to reduce the version of a pdf file which is v1.7 as my BI Publisher support only pdf version  upto Version1.5.
2)This pdf file 1.7 contains some pre-delivered fields, i want to remove all the pre-delivered fields. Please suggest.
    PFA link:-

Please guide to remove the pre-delivered fields from this pdf & how to reduce the version.

A lot depends on what you want to do with the file. The encryption has limited most options on the form. If you are wanting to simply post a view of the form, then you might try a screen capture. Of course there is always the question of what you want to do with the form and any legal aspects related to that use. Other than answering potential legal questions of your use, we might be able to help more if we were aware of the desired use. At the moment, the screen capture is my only suggestion. There may be other work arounds, but probably not appropriate for discussion on this forum.
If you are wanting the form for publication as an example in some document, I would strongly suggest you contact the gov't agency and discuss your intent and try to get a version you can use with their approval. Overall, that is the cleanest way to do whatever you are after for a legit purpose. Even a graphic version should have the permission of the government agency.

  • Help files of CS5 in PDF versions

    Hi,
I'm looking for the Help files in "PDF" versions for Creative Suite in French and not the "HTML". The technician at my school does not no where to get them. Is there anybody who can help me with that?
It doesn't seem's to be on the Adobe's Web Site anymore?

  • Preserving PDF version after Save during "Extend Features in Reader"

    Hi,
I'm using Acrobat Pro 9 and I'm attempting to make a fillable form that needs to be compatible with Acrobat 5 (PDF v1.4) . I can make the form, but when I extend features in reader, the copy it saves is PDF v1.6 (Acrobat 7). Is there any way to maintain the PDF version when doing this, or is this not possible with V1.4 PDFs?
    Thanks.

"Reader enabling" was introduced with version 1.5 (Acrobat 6).
