PDF viewer for MBP

I'm looking for a good PDF viewer for my MBP, any recommendations?  Preferably freeware.  The current one I'm using doesn't display PDF files properly in the browser.

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear. I'm actually looking for a plug-in to allow me to view PDF files when using Firefox.  I had one installed earlier but somehow it doesn't allow me to preview PDF contents in Firefox any more.  Anything to recommend?
Did you review Firefox's pdf plug-ins?  https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=pdf&cat=all

  • PDF viewer for Firefox?

Does anyone know how to view pdf files from the firefox browser? I downloaded the pdf viewer and it works with safari, but I usually use firefox.....
    Thanks

moscowotters, the extension you referred to doesn't work as advertised on the Mac version of Firefox: it brings up the dialog as expected, but if you choose "Open PDF," the PDF still launches Adobe Reader or Preview, rather than opening the PDF in the browser.
Sadly, PDF viewing in the browser appears to be limited to Safari for the time being.

  • Default pdf viewer for Digital Booklet

I have Adobe Reader 8.0 on my computer as my default viewer for Acrobat documents. I also have Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional installed, which I use to create pdfs. When I click on a digital booklet in iTunes, it opens with 6.0 with an error message. When I click on it in windows explorer, it opens in 8.0. Is there any way to change the iTunes configuration so it will open booklets with Reader 8.0?
    thanks

Depends on where you are getting the PDF from. If it's sent as an attachment in an email then Mail will open it; if it's on a website then Safari will open it. You can also download Apple's iBooks app for free which will open PDFs

  • Why no PDF viewer for Firefox4 for Mac?

I used to use the PDF viewing plug-in with Firefox 3.X but it seems there is no similar plug-in available for 4.X. Am I missing something? I tried downloading OpenIT, but it was truly awful. Why is Firefox so far behind on such a basic yet essential capability? I am about to either revert to 3.X or replace Firefox with Safari.

  • PDF viewer for Firefox 4.0b7

I know that the Firefox PDF Plugin for Mac OS still doesn't work for the newer versions of 4.0b. I want to know if this problem bothered anyone enough so that they went and found a workaround of some sort till the PDF plugin does come out. Also the Google Docs reader doesn't do me any good so that suggestion would probably be useless.
Before the update to 4.0b7, I was running a patched version of the PDF Plugin but the patched version broke, as expected.
Also as a side note, video playing is broken in the new update.

Nah, I have a PDF printer installed for that. I am trying to view PDFs without downloading the file to my computer. Firefox had a plugin for that for the previous betas and I wanted to check if there are any workarounds or if there is a patched version available somewhere.

  • Reinstate Preview as PDF viewer for Safari

I am trying to get Preview to work as the default PDF viewer in Safari. I have deleted the Adobe Reader and Silverlight plug-ins from Library/Internet Plug-ins. I selected Preview as the default app for PDFs (all instances) in the info pane of a PDF. I restarted Safari and rebooted the Mac. Now it seems that Safari has no ability to view a PDF inline; it immediately downloads any PDF I click on and opens it with Preview.
I looked for a way to reinstall Safari, although I'm not sure that is a solution, but did not find a Safari download on the Apple website. Do I need a plug-in or should the functionality be built into the browser?
How do I get a PDF file to display as a web page in Safari using Preview?
    Thanks -
**OS X 10.10 Yosemite on a Macbook Pro Retina 13"

    HI,
Right or control click a PDF file on your hard drive. Then click: Get Info
In the Get Info window click the pop up menu where you see: Open with.
Select Preview. If Preview isn't available from the list click: Other
Navigate to the Preview app and select it then click the Change All button.

  • PDF viewer for Mate that allows creating bookmarks?

I'm trying the Mate's document viewer Atril, but I can't see any way to make a bookmark so I can get back to a page while browsing a 1000+ page PDF. I know Okular can do it, but even with all the power in the world who wants to install all those extra KDE libs just for one app? Are there any options for Mate?

Hmmm... Yeah I saw Zathura and she looked nice (considering she likes only fingers)... I guess I'll have to try her out because having no bookmarks while browsing 1000 pages is probably a scenario worse than commanding Zathura.

  • PDF viewer for large files

    Hello,
i want to view a very large PDF file (~1GB, ~500 pages). The viewers i tested (okular, evince, xpdf) are slow: if i browse through the document one page loads a specific time and is displayed. If i switch to the next page i have to wait again.
Is there a viewer that loads the rest of the document while i read the first pages to scroll through the document without waiting after a while?

    Thanks so long.
acroread renders the pages very fast. That's what i want - but it's proprietary:/
For the moment it's ok but i'd like to have a free alternative to acroread that shows the pages as quick as acroread or preloads more than 1 page.
lucke wrote:Perhaps, just perhaps it'd work better if you copied it to tmpfs and read from there?
    I've tried it: no improvement.
Edit: tried Sumatra: an improvement compared to Okular etc. Thanks.

  • Add a PDF viewer for any device view instead of download

It is silly for us to be downloading PDFs. Add a web viewer, it's close to free! https://www.accusoft.com/products/accusoft-cloud-services/acs-document-viewing/

I have been experiencing serious issues with the pdf reader on the playbook.. the fact that its completely featureless (no search, no bookmarks, no highlighting) is almost minor compared to not being able to open pdf attachments in many cases. I'm not sure if it has to do with the encoding of the pdfs that I sometimes receive via e-mail, but they open fine on the laptop running adobe as well... I find it outrageous that a "business-class" tablet can not handle full and unlimited viewing/editing of the most commonly used document formats (this includes how remarkably featureless the docs-to-go software are). What do you do when you have your tablet with you and receive an e-mail but cant read the attachment pdf?
Is there any hope that the adobe reader is being developed, and an upgrade is in the works?
BTW I really like the PB, but these huge lacking features are causing more and more frustration as I attempt to use the device on a daily basis for the purpose that it should have.. only to find I can not Instead of android player, basic office functionality should be fixed. I read the ipad is getting an MS office suite next year?... pfff

  • Pdf viewer for playbook

    Hello folks,
I picked up a PB in the hopes of being able to read pdf docs on the go - that was the motivating factor.
The Adobe PDF reader included is terrible.
I tried a PDF document on an ACER 7" tablet and it opened as I expected - but on the PB - the rendering of the PDF is terrible, the PDF is blurry.
Are there any PDF readers that I can download - I am willing to pay.
    Thanks,
