PDF viewer - PREVIEW - in lion is worse / blurry when looking at my old pdfs that looked clear in SL

why do the pdfs that used to look clear in preview with SL now look blurrry when viewing them in preview on lion?

I add to the topo of Matt some other features that turned worse.
The preview is an application that has to be "all times ready to use"
However, any time you close a preview, the application closes down. And, each new preview (re-)starts the application. This is extremely time consuming.
Also, I don't understand why the "save as" feature has disapeared.

Where is "save as" or how to change file type in Preview in Lion? I used to use Preview to change quickly change a lot of PNGs to either JPEGs or PDFs but with the introduction of versions auto save etc there no "save as" in the File menu. Any suggestions how to get this functionality back or how to get around it within OS X (no Photoshop etc)?

Just wasted 15 minutes looking for that.  What's wrong with Save As?

Can anyone tell me how to turn off the message preview in Lion email so that I only have the person's name and the subject line of the email, not the text body.
    thank you for your help.

    First goto preferences
then click on viewing in the top bar
then where it says list preview click the drop down then click none

  • In two page view preview shows the first page on its own

In two page view preview shows the first page on its own. I have recently downloaded an ebook which has image based tutorials and the pages are in such a way that pages 3 and 4 should be seen next to each other. Preview seems to want to have pages 1 on its own therefore making this rather difficult. Any help on resolving this issue would be appreciated.

Try selecting the first page, and then from the "Edit" menu select "insert blank page". This should put a blank page at the beginning of the document, shifting all pages down one and putting them in the order you want for your display.

  • Preview problems: PDFs that the computer had read as English are now read as gibberish

I download a PDF, and I open it with Preview on my Mac or GoodReader on my iPad (all synced with SugarSync): initially it's text; I can search for text in the PDF, I can highlight text and copy it, and all is well.
Then, I make annotations, maybe once, maybe a few times. Suddenly some PDFs, while still looking the same to me, are no longer "read" as English text by the iMac/iPad: when I search for a term that's obviously on the page in front of me, it's not found. If I highlight text from the PDF and copy it, the copying doesn't work - sometimes it's gibberish, sometimes it's just blank. Note that it's not read as a picture - I can still highlight words and phrases - but the computer/iPad doesn't recognize those phrases. "Eric" for some reason has become I7CK;BH$:;B7DO. To me, it's still totally readable - it's just that the computer doesn't copy/read it as English.
    Has anyone had similar issues?
I've tried using PDFPen to "re-OCR" the document, but it won't let me do that, I suppose because the computer still reads the file as text - just not English text. I haven't yet figured out where in my workflow this is happening - the different steps are I suppose annotating in Preview (on the iMac), annotating in GoodReader (on the iPad), and syncing with SugarSync. At the moment I think it's editing with Preview first that somehow renders the file non-English, but I'm not sure of that at all - nor do I know if this is happening after one time annotating, or more.
I almost always make duplicates of PDFs (princially academic articles) before annotating, so I can usually go back to original clean PDFs, but it's more than a little annoying that all the previously-English annotations are suddenly unreadable.
This thread from the archive ...
Copy and paste from PDF in Preview results in gibberish
... seems to be related, but doesn't seem to have any real solutions, unfortunately.
Two things I'm mainly concerned with: (1) stopping it from happening again; (2) taking the now-gibberish annotated PDFs "backwards" so they become English again.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

First, please find a window based PC with iPod updater pre-installed, connect your iPod with it and click Restore, please note it really does not matter it can complete the process or not. Wait for 5 minutes and reconnect it with your Mac (may be you need to put it in disk mode). Do the following
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”

  • How to work with Preview in Lion (autosave, etc)

Just installed Lion and am tweaking and adjusting.
Run headlong into Autosave/Versioning with Preview.  Was very used to using preview to quickly look at and play with adjustments to images (but used Photoshop for heavy lifting).  Most of the time, I discarded any adjustments that I made in Preview (i.e. I didn't save them).
Was surprised that Lion autosaves anything that I do to an image in Preview.  So, how does one work in this environment.  Avoid Preview?  Always do the extra step of reverting to an older image before closing Preview (is it obvious which version to revert to?)?  Something else?  I don't see a way to turn autosave off.  On first blush, this seems like a Misfeature.  Not just for Preview, but for many things.  Is no longer safe to just play because all changes are being saved.
I hope that I'm missing something that can bring back a more explicit workflow.
I also noticed that Preview is really sucking up memory.  I opened a couple of images (small ones, < 1MB).  After playing for a while, the Preview app used almost all of the available 10GB of memory on my system (the system became really sluggish).  Is this a side effect of versioning?  I quit and restarted Preview and it freed up memory.

Wondering how general the above advice is.  Only for preview, or all programs?  Time will tell on how well this feature works; certainly different as compared to other OS's that I might use during the day.
In this case, I only opned a couple of small photos and made a handful of changes.  So, I don't know where all the memory went.  I'll be watchful.
I've now unchecked "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps".  But, note that this doesn't affect audosaving.
Feels like initial startup of apps (incl. preview) is a bit sluggish under Lion.  Perhaps due to checking saved state (a guess).
Apple isn't shy about changing things!

  • Is Quick View (preview of file contents under search results) supported in SharePoint 2013 Foundation?

We recently deployed SharePoint 2013 Foundation but can't make Quick View (seeing the contents of a file when you hover the mouse cursor over it) work in the search results.
All Site Collection/Site Features are turned on.  Not sure what else to do.
Does anyone have this feature working in SharePoint 2013 Foundation?
    Thank you!

    Hi Charlie,
To view the Preview of the Search Results you need to Install/Configure Office Web Apps Server in your farm.

  • Borders in Pages for Mac look blurry when I export to pdf

Borders in Pages for Mac look blurry when I export to pdf. How can I make a pdf or JPEG retain the sharp edges and smooth shadows when I export?

The ColorSync filters control the conversion between color spaces of files on the Mac and are used when you export or print to pdf.
The ColorSync Utility is inside the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder.
    see Alternate ColorSync PDF filters.

  • View/preview giant .psb files

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knew of a good way or an alternative browser maybe to view/preview giant sized .psb files?
I am now working on files from 5 - 20 GB each, 30 - 50,000 pixels, and am stuck using Bridge to go thru them, which takes forever to create thumbnails, and is often unreliable, as every now and then Bridge will just refuse to create a thumbnail for a certain image or 2 and drives me crazy.
Any suggestions? Am currently using CS3.
Yes I know this is an older version, I just wish there was a more efficient way to preview large files. PS obviously generates a flattened image preview every time u save, but the previews Bridge uses are fairly low res to my eye, yet it still takes ridiculously long to load each one, which I dont understand if during the save that preview image should be 'in' the file anyway.
There's got to be a better way to work with giant files.
Any tricks you power users know maybe?
    thanks!

Not as far as I know, Noel.  If I recall correctly, a single installer runs, without offering any options.
I have both the Ardfry codec and the FastPictureViewer Codec Pack installed.  I have yet to figure out how to tell which one of the two PSD codecs is in play when I am viewing PSD previews, nor how to specify which of the two codecs I want the system to use.  I am not experiencing any problems with the two PSD codecs installed though, so they appear to play nicely together.
On a side note, Ardfry provides a free plug-in for Directory Opus which adds support for their codec, enabling viewing and thumbnail generation of PSD/PSB within that excellent file explorer.

  • Live View Preview is only available with...

When I select preview 'server' from the Browser Lab panel in Dreamweaver I get this message:
"Live View Preview is only available with BrowserLab Local/Network preview option, please select the Local/Network preview option."

    Hi Mattdwm,
Yes this behavior is 100% correct, and what you observed about it only working if you toggle Live View off is what the error message was trying to tell you.
I'll try to explain - in Dreamweaver's Live View mode you can interact with your page "freeze" the javascript in intermediate states. The information about those states is only contained on the local machine. So if you were to perform a server preview from DW while in Live View, the page would only be in the base/default state in the screenshot captured by BrowserLab. So the only way BrowserLab can get the properly get the info about the intermediate state you've navigated to is if you choose the Local/Network preview option.
I suppose we could have implemented things so that it would not show you that message if you haven't done any interactions with your page in Live View, but I think that would actually be more confusing, as it would sometimes work and sometimes not work. And even if we could automatically switch over to Local/Network mode for BrowserLab while you're in DW's Live View mode, we probably wouldn't because we want that to be a choice made explicitly by our users.
Thanks for your interest in BrowserLab, I hope this helps,
    Mark

  • Hello I am having problems viewing areas of a pdf...it's a form fillable pdf that someone else has completed and saved..I'm able to view all but the areas that have been filled in.. any info would help

Hello I am having problems viewing areas of a pdf...it's a form fillable pdf that someone else has completed and saved..I'm able to view all but the areas that have been filled in.. any info would help

Hi Bob, I just tried your suggestion, but the interactive PDF is in spreads by default, no way to change the setting. When I choose to view by single page in Acrobat, it displays a single spread.
When I choose to view by spreads, it displays 4 pages, two spreads. That's the topic of this whole discussion, I believe. I do own CS 6 at home, however my employer supplied me with CS 5.5. And I have very little, if any, influence on purchasing.
So, I have no good way to make an interactive PDF (with differing recto/verso headers and footers), that is accessible and shows the correct header/footer. It's either single pages (with one header/footer), or recto/verso headers/footers but PDF only as a spread, as well as I can tell.
Unless you know something else I can do...
    Best, Marilyn

  • Image looks great in PS- when I go to print it looks grainy in printer preview dialog box and prints blurry. Why?

Image looks great in PS- when I go to print, it looks grainy in printer preview dialog box and prints blurry.  Why is this happening?

PS CC, Yosemite, Epson 3880 (called espson to make sure it wasn't something with that), saved as a tiff/psdjpg- all files behave the same way.  When I open the raw file- and only crop the image- it behaves this way now- with grain and blur when printing.  No other files do this in the same shoot.  I worked on this image- could something have gotten corrupted along the way such that now even opening the raw file creates this problem.  SInce upgrading my computer -  a window pops up when I open PS that says I need to update my graphics card?? for 3D- I'm not using 3D- so I don't know if that means anything.  I have to leave for about an hour- but greatly appreciate any feedback. I will be in touch. Thank you.

  • Pictures imported are blurry when viewing as slideshow

Hello everyone, I am new to this this business and am trying to create a picture slide show but am running into the problem of the picture which I have imported and added to the slide show being fuzzy when I view it on my laptop. Here are the specifics and what I have already tried. Thank you all in advance.
    1. Have Adobe premiere elements 3
    2. Pictures originally scanned in at 200 dpi, have also placed same picture at 400 and 800 dpi scan into slide show for comparison
    3. Picture in question is a 3x5 and I have not touched any settings and have left them at defaults
    4. Picture is in good condition and is in jpeg format
    neubs

    Thank you Paul, Steve.
Ok. I just checked my size in terms of pixels, at.....
    200 dpi= 680 x 1010
    300 dpi= 1020 x 1546
With that said, I am assuming that the higher the dpi count, the bigger the size (pixel wise). Could it be a issue of the picture being used "being too big" and PE is automatically converting it to what the preset optimum dimensions are? As a result, making the pictures blurry?
-In terms of resizing, how should I go about doing that? I have Photoshop Elements 5, would that be a good program to adjust the size to about 1000 x 750 pixels?
-When you say render and "hitting enter," when and where do I do that: when I am doing with the slideshow and I export, or how/when do I render and what is the procedure?
-The slideshow will be shown on a projector. What is the best method with the quality of the show in mind to show it....Direct link from laptop, AVI, DVD?
Again, a big thank you to everyone in advance.

I am new at Captivate 8 and I have created a learning project using an existing power point presentation.  I have added a button that will allow my students to view a video on the subject.  When I run the project in Preview the button works but when I publish it, it stops working.

I added an Interactions button and in the Actions on Success I open an URL or file. I have placed the video on our web server.   In the URL I point to our web server "http://www.wmabhs.org/Media/Add Client 3rd Party Coverage.mp4".  If I run this from any browser it works.  So what do you think I have done wrong?
