PDF vs WMV Slide Shows

This is a follow up to a previous submission.
I have three separate slide shows to prepare.  They contain 235, 385 and 470 images respectively.  Prior to making a slide show I disable Power Settings from Control Panel.  I have a Windows 7 operating system and Adobe Elements 9.  I make *.pdf shows at largest setting (sharpest image) with no difficulty and complete the transfer well under 30 minutes.
When making a  *.wmv (largest resolution) slide show, I am successful with the 235 (24:06 minutes) and the 385 (38:48 minute) image shows.  However, when attempting one with 470 (49:06 minute) images, the 49:06 time scale is shown but the last image number appearing is about 330 at a time of 33 - 35 minutes.  When splitting up this show into two parts and attempting to recombine in Media Center I have similar experience. When transfers takes more than 30 minutes, my screen turns black and upon moving the mouse, the Window 7 WelcomeScreen appears. The Adobe transfer screen reappears when I Log On from the Windows 7 Welcome.
When the screen goes black, does the appearance of Windows 7 Welcome interfere with image transfer since it seems the last image transferred is about the time the screen goes black?  This occurs when making a slide show from Adobe Elements 9 or Windows Media Center despite Power Settings disabled.  Is there a way to disable the W7 Welcome Screen during an image transfer and would doing so correct the problem?  Or is there just to many slides in this show or the show itself may have become corrupted?

I send them out as email attachments
I just did a few more tests with friends and most of them can open them ...!!!???
So-I was a bit hasty ... but still:
why is the security default Properties> Secvurity> "Everyone" gone and replaced with " Authenticated User" ...?
Does this have any implications of clients ability to open?
Are thet new features to prevent theft / manipulation etc?
Thanks

  • How can I display an animated graphic in a PDF file or slide show?

I have a simple animated graphic comprising eight layers in a PSD file created in Photoshop. Can I create a version of this which can be included in a PDF file or a slideshow. I do not want to display it on the web. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I'm confused now. Just how would an animated GIF be different from an animated PSD (if there IS such a thing). Sounds like your best bet would be to use the PSD to make an SWF and inport THAT to the PDF, because you can use an SWF in a PDF and it will play.

  • I have a photo PDF slide show in an email. How do I get the photos into my camera roll on iPad ?

I have a photo slide show PDF file in an email. How to I transfer the photos in my camera roll on my iPad?

Well I guess you can press cmd + shift + 3 to take a picture of your whole screen or cmd + shift + 4 to take a picture of a selected area, that will create a file called "screen shot yyyy-mm-dd at hh:mm:ss.jpg" on your desktop then you just select those files and drag them into iPhoto.

  • Photoshop Elements 6 - PDF slide show won't run when email is opened

I have created a slide show in Photoshop Elements 6 as a PDF file and sent it to myself as a trial run. Although I have selected the 'loop' option the show does not run automatically when the email attachement is opened as I believe it should. Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks.

It comes to something when I have to answer my own question!  However I have to admit I did have a little help from an earlier question which was thrown up by a search I did! It seems that when a PDF show is emailed and the recipient is asked whether the show should be opened in full screen or not; the answer should be 'yes' in order for the show to start automatically.
If the recipient answers 'no' the show stays stuck on the first slide. Hope this help anyone else who may have the same problem.

  • How do I convert a power point document to a pdf where it will show the notes for each slide?

How do I convert a power point document to a pdf where it will show the notes for each slide?

To get the 'handout view' with a slide and the speaker notes on the same page, you have to save the PDF file directly from PowerPoint (the later versions of Microsoft Office can make PDF files without the help of Acrobat).

  • Wmv to be play on a mac question; MS Photostory3 slide show usability

There was a woman who posted this note... and before I could answer, somebody set the note to "answered" so I couldn't reply. It was certainly not answered. The text was:
My son's school has started using Microsoft's Photostory3 to convert school event images into slide shows. As Photostory3 apparently uses an Image codec, Flip4Mac can't run the resulting wmv file. Craig on the Telestream forum says, 'Nothing on the Mac can play Image or Screen codec.' I can't see another save option on the staff member's pc that would allow any other save format. Does anyone know if there is an easy (and free?) software they could use that would be cross platform?
My answer is: It's true you cannot play a wmv file on a mac. A workaround is to use a free converter to convert it to a usable format, for example a Quicktime movie which has the extension .mov
One such converter is called FLV CRUNCH. google for it and give it a try. Good Luck!
    N

If the person has an up to date system, they probably have the flip4mac plug-in, which allows macs to play most WMV files. Older macs may or may not have WMP. If they don't have it, I'm not sure you can still download it-Microsoft has stopped issuing it and recommends flip4mac instead. You will aslo find a fairly substantial number of mac folks who will not do Windows media under any circumstances whatsoever, I'm afraid.
All macs can play QT files, but again, if you want to use H264, the person would need to have a fairly recent version of QT installed.
A potential problem is that macs last a long time, so there are still many people using the old OS 9 operating system from 8 or nine years ago, and apple stopped issuing updates for that system a long time ago. Also, there are some WMV codecs that have never been released for anything but windows.

  • Pdf for slide shows

When I create a slideshow in Photoshop Elements .pdf is my preferred file format  to save the show.
One of the nice features of .pdf for slide shows is the 'fade out /fade in' transition between slides, which has been functioning on my laptop, even if slide changing was set to manual.
I recently downloaded Acrobat Reader for iPAD. Although slide changing was no problem the 'fade out /fade in' effect was gone. Is there any way I could get it back?

No transitions and multimedia on Adobe Reader for iOS.

  • How to avoid letterboxing & pillars in output of slide show as wmv movie in Premiere El 10?

I have created a slide show with both stills (using pan and zoom) and videos. Both in the Preview monitor in Premiere and in the exported movie I get letterboxes and pillars (black lines top and bottom, and on the sides). I know there is a lot going oh here, but here are a few relevant details.
    Premiere 10 - (64-bit)
    Running Win 7 Home Premium
Still images have various aspect ratios, but mostly I tried to keep to 1000x750 pixels for 4:3 aspect ratio
    Videos are 320x240
Output is to WMV (720p HD movie) - this is the only choice for a WMV movie and I cannot find ANY output that matches the 320x240 format of the videos.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
This is my first post in the forum. I did search the previous discussions, as I'm sure this has been discussed befor, but found nothing.
Please forgive if I'm in the wrong poace or any other stuff like that.
    Thank you

Thank you both for your replies - very helpful.
This was/is an attempt to put together a demo for a project, to be shown on a computer. - by someone who obviously did not know what he was doing, namely, me.
Can you tell it was my first attempt?
Yes, the preset was DV 48kHz, which is apparently 4:3, right?
The tiny video is what I was given to work with (from VideoBlocks) Maybe not a good idea to even try. The still images were various sizes and I resized them to 1000x750, on a recommendation from someone on how to get good 4:3 resolution. So that was not such a good idea either.
Since then, I have tried a couple of experiments.
BUT, I just tried a new video with images resized in Photoshop to 1280x720, with the preset at DV widescreen and output at 720p HD. Hey - it is almost a success. The letterboxes and pillars are negligible - about 1/8 of an inch.  Thank you both so much.
So would you insist on higher quality video to work with?  I have until next Wednesday. Lots of time. Sounds like there is not much hope for using the 320x240 video.
Thanks very much for your suggestions and patience.

  • Keyboard shortcuts for PDF slide show?

After creating a slide show in Photoshop elements 12, I saved it in PDF form. When I let it run, Pictures only come on full screen. I can navigate slides with keyboard  forward and back, but not stop or freeze a picture. Is there any Key or combination for "Pause" ?  Is the show controlled by Windows (Vista) or by Acrobat Reader or even by Photoshop?
    Thanks for answers,
    Platonman

    In adobe reader:
See if left clicking and holding pauses the advance.
Then release the mouse button to resume the slideshow.

  • How do you create a slide show to a wmv vile?

I use photoshop Elements 7 I have created several slideshows of my granddaughters wedding, I would like to save them as wmv shows on a DVD but I get a message that the wmv file wasn't created. help did not help solve my questions.

1 -- I am concerned that you received the "wmv file not created message" when Outputing your slide show 1.  I suggest that we try to understand why it failed.
1a-- Did you see any other error or warning messages after you started the slide show output process ? And approximately how long did the Output command run before you saw the error message?
1b-- what format are the photo files that you are using in the slide show? Are they jpegs or are they Canon RAW format or TIFFs or PSD?
1c-- In your previous response you said that your drive is an external hard drive with139 GB used and 158 GB free, so I conclude that your photo files are on an external hard drive. However, the amount of free space on your system internal drive (probably your C drive) is also relevant when making a slide show output: it can cause failures when creating WMV output. So please post the size and space available on your C drive.
2 -- Since you also have the laptop with Windows 7, I agree with 99jon that you can probably use it to make the DVD video format and burn a DVD disc that can be played on TV.
Potentially the simplest process will be to make the WMV files from PSE 7 and then transfer each of those WMV files to that laptop and then use those WMV files as input to Windows 7 DVD Maker.   However we first need to solve your current problem of making the WMV files from PSE 7.

  • Export indesign slide show as swf/pdf

    Hello,
I try to export a slide-show containing buttons and flv-movies as pdf and as swf.
    SWF-export:
In the exported swf file when viewed with the Firefox browser (Flash Player 16 installed) the movies disappear when I try to play them. However everything else including the buttons do work fine. The same problem I have with other browsers (Internet Explorer, Opera) as well as the “Standalone Flash Player” and the freely available “SWF Player 2.6”. Only when I play the swf-file with “Adobe Flash Player 11.2 r202” (outside the browser) the movies are streamed when clicked on. However here the movie frame has not the correct size and is moved to the upper left corner.
    PDF-export:
When exporting the same indesign file as PDF and viewed via Adobe Acrobat Pro (Version 10.1.13) the buttons to switch to previous or next page do work fine. Also the movies are streamed when clicked on. However now the buttons to switch to next or previous status of multistate objects do not work.
    System specifications: Indesign CS6, 64bit, Windows 7
    Thank you for any suggestion,
    Finn

  • Audio in PDF slide show doesn't play. What can I do ?

I created a PDF slide show with MP3 audio (from Elements Organizer version 10.0). The PDF doesn't play the audio. What can I do ?

    Hello Andaleeb,
thank you for getting back to me.
The slide show works fine, including sound, from within Organizer. It
also works fine when I export it as a video. Just PDF isn't working.
In the meantime, from various contributions in the forum, I gather that,
unfortunately, the Organizer (just like Lightroom) simply does not
support adding music to PDF slide shows. Apparently, there is a way to
do that using Acrobat Pro (only costs 640 Euros).
You may consider my question answered.

    Thomas

  • Elements 4 Slide Show PDF File Size

My a 36-slide show with music ends up as a 6.76 MB PDF file. Are there techniques for reducing the file size?
My attempts have had mystifying results. I fould that 2 of the original images were multi-megabyte BMP files, so I replaced them one-by-one with much smaller JPGs, and made PDFs after each step. (Miraculously, when I edited the original photos, the edits automatically flowed down into the slide show images.)
When I made the replacements and created new PDFs, the size didn't shrink accordingly. It appears that Elements makes its own JPGs from the photos in the slide show, so the size of the original doesn't matter.
But replacing the first big file with a smaller one slightly INCREASED the size of the PDF, from 6.76 MB to 6.79. Replacing the second one increased it again from 6.79 to 6.80. Small changes, but mysterious.
BTW, taking out the music (built-in looping audio from Elements) reduced the file size from 6.76 to 5.87 MB.
Are there other ways to reduce the size of the PDF file?

Yep, I know this is user-to-user. I've gotten very good answers here, too.
I experimented with the "slide resolution" (or whatever the name of it is). There wasn't much difference in file size between 800x600 and 1024x768, and I couldn't see much difference on the screen. Fonts seemed less jazzy with 1024x768, but it wasn't night and day.
File size ballooned when I went to the next higher resolution. I think the visual quality improved, too, but I can't be sure.
Looks like the higer resolution settings might be good if one distributed the slide show on CD.

  • PE9- Saving slide shows - always stops working at 94% of .wmv file

I have a 40 minute slide show with music. When I output to .wmv file, PE9 always stops working at 94% of download, whether I use the maximum or the high resolution settings. I have a powerful computer with all the bells and whistles. I'm disapointed that E9 does not perform as advertised. Any solutions or comments beyong what's in the release notes? Any fix for this soon? Thanks to all.

Most probably Premiere Elements is causing the rotation you are experiencing
That is because the recent versions of Premiere Elements do not recognize the rotation indicator set in a photo file.  However the Photoshop Elements Organizer does recognize a photo orientation indicator set within the photo file when displaying thumbnails and displaying the photo file.
At this point for this slide show,
it might be simplest to initiate an edit in Photoshop Elements of each of the portrait orinetation photo files that are in this slide show -- so that the pixels within the photo file itself can be rotated and saved as a new photo file. .
    In the future,
-- it would probably be simpler to multiple select thumbnails in the Organizer and rotate those photo thumbnails (once 90 degrees  and then a second time back in the opposite direction 90 degrees).
-- most cameras that set rotation indicators in a photo file also have an option not to set that indicator which then usually results in portrait orientation photos displaying sideways in the Elements Organizer until you rotate them yourself. (to me this is a second choice approach but it is a possibility)
