Pdf will not display in safari

the pdf file will not open on safari

Hi Carolyn,
I am experiencing the same symptoms as gaijindragonslayer described above, and my Internet Plug-ins folder is empty. I would like to have Preview as my default pdf reader, but am unable to view a pdf in Safari at all right now -- I have to download the pdf and then open it with Preview separately in order to view it.
What else might cause this?
Thanks for your help.

  • PDF will not display in an IE browser window

    I have the following setup:
    Windows Vista Business w/ SP2
    Internet Explorer 8 (8.0.6001.18813)
    Adobe Reader 9 (9.1.3)
When accessing a PDF document using IE8, the PDF will not display in an IE browser window.  Instead, the PDF opens in a new Adobe Reader window.
When accessing the same PDF in Firefox or Chrome, the PDF appears in the browser window.
I have tried repairing Adobe Reader using the Help>Repair Adobe Reader Installation menu, both by running Adobe Reader as an admin and not.  I have confirmed that Adobe Reader "Internet" preference "Display PDF in Browser" option is enabled (checked).  I have enabled/disabled this preference without affect.  The PDF document is always opened in it's own Adobe Reader window.
I have tested this using different PDF documents served up by different servers.  The result is the same.  The PDF document is always opened in it's own Adobe Reader window.
How can I get the PDF to open in an IE8 browser window?
I look forward to any suggestions offered.

  • Pdf is not displayed in safari

How can I see a pdf in safari? the links don't open the pdf-files.

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

    hi:
i tried the basic "hello world" thing in html in textedit, and the same thing happened: it showed the html but not the webpage. i also dragged the .html file over to the safari icon in the dock with the same results.
i don't have a good answer as to why html written in textedit is doing this. maybe its the way textedit handles the underlying stuff, like ms word.
or it could be the way safari and ie parse file written in textedit.
go to http://www.barebones.com/ and download textwrangler. it's free, and html coded in textwrangler acts right in safari.

  • Pdf will not display correctly on iPhone or iPad

I put together a monthly newsletter that is 20 to 30 pages long every month for my club using iWorks Pages. The newsletter contains graphics and text on every page, a mixture of jpgs & png files all in rgb as this is meant to be viewed and not printed. I then use Acrobat 9 to "optimize" and "reduce file size" to make the file more portable. The file displays fine on my iMac and my Mac Book Pro but when I try viewing the pdf file on my iPhone or iPad, the majority of the graphics disappear. Most of the text is viewable but no other content can be seen. Does anyone know a program or another work around I'm not using that would make the graphics show up?
Here is a link to my last newsletter if you would care to play with the file.

  • Site will not display in safari

    Hi There,
This URL quite often doesn't load in Safari: www.svelte.net.nz - if it does load, click a link from the navigation and the next page will be blank.
However, if you click and drag, you see a grey frame that can be dragged, and once you let go, the page loads.
This site loads every time in Firefox & Opera for Mac and PC and IE 6 & IE 7 for PC.
All the ISP URL cloaking code seems to be valid (http://validator.w3.org/) but there is a page error (iWeb) according to the W3 validator. Here is the error:
This page is not Valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional!
Below are the results of checking this document for XML well-formedness and validity.
Error Line 85 column 29: required attribute "action" not specified.
    <form id="search"></form>
The attribute given above is required for an element that you've used, but you have omitted it. For instance, in most HTML and XHTML document types the "type" attribute is required on the "script" element and the "alt" attribute is required for the "img" element.
Typical values for type are type="text/css" for <style> and type="text/javascript" for <script>.
I've rung Apple in Australia and although they experience the same issue, they're practically useless when it comes to suggesting a fix. This is an extremely frustrating issue where Mac users cannot view our site.
The amount of crap we receive from PC users is annoying. They suggest a change to the switch ads where although Mac is cool and funky, he's actually an idiot who can't read or write.
Could someone please point me in the right direction or help me fix this issue? I've been waiting since November hoping for a Safari update fix.

    Ben --
Your site opens fine (albeit a little slower than usual)
in both Safari & Camino here.
Have you done all these yet?
Do these & report back, OK ?
    1. Empty your cache & History settings via the Safari menu
    2. Trash your Icons Folder:
    HD>Users>Home>YourName>Library>Safari -->Icons
Restart Safari and a new folder will be automatically regenerated.
(This folder saves favicons of all the sites you visit. Needs cleaning periodically -- or you can change that file's preferences to "Read Only"
rather than "Read & Write." This will keep it from growing in size.)
    3. Launch Font Book and check all fonts for duplicates. A duplicated font will have a bullet beside the font family and you can resolve duplicates by selecting the font and at the menu bar, go to Edit > Resolve Duplicates.
Do this for each font with a bullet next to it.
    If you're still having problems:
    4. Shut down your computer . . . unplug the computer, modem, and router, if you have one. Let everything sit for 2-3 minutes. Plug everything back in, start up your modem & router, then restart your computer.
    5. Run YASU -- It's free, and will clean up old caches, etc.
Click below for more info & to download.

    Hope this helps

  • Pdf will not display

My FF browser recently updated to v. 36.0.4
Up until that update, I had no problems with previewing PDF's in my browser. After the update, i have lost that functionality. When I click on a live link in a web page, nothing more happens.
i have the adobe acrobat plugin (v.11); it is up to date. my adobe acrobat (v.11) and adobe reader (v.11) are also up to date.

Version XI (11.0.10) is the most up to date version of Firefox. In order to make sure it is still selected as the default Reader:
In order to change the default reader for PDF files (to not open PDF files with Firefox's internal PDF reader), follow these steps:
#Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and click Options (Preferences for Linux and Mac).
#In the Options (Preferences for Linux and Mac) window, select the ''Applications'' panel.
#In the ''Search'' field, type ''PDF''. You should find ''Portable Document Format (PDF)''.
#On the right hand side you should find an ''Action'' column. Use that to select your favorite PDF reader. In order to view PDF files in Firefox, choose ''Preview in Firefox''.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Newly added pdfs will not display after generating primarly layout

RoboHelp X5. I'm replacing pdf files for a Help project
that's been in place for over a year. From the user's perspective
the files are accessed via a link when accessing Help. I removed
the link (a link to, let's say example.pdf rev A). I recreated the
link by pointing to the new pdf (example.pdf rev B). All my pdfs
are on my local drive under C:\Program Files\RoboHelp
Office\RoboHTML\<project name>. After updating the pdfs and
subsequently deleting the old pdfs several baggage files showed the
red X. I deleted these baggage files b/c they represented the old
files. After generating the primary layout none of the re-created
links worked. Only the links I didn't touch work. The working links
are also the only files that have a representation in the baggages
file folder. I tried adding baggage files but it doesn't work. My
    PC is WXP SP2 w/Office 2007. I uninstalled RoboHelp (I didn't touch
the registries). Reloaded RoboHelp and noticed that Office 2007
wasn't listed. So I went to another PC that's never had RoboHelp
and runs WXP SP2 w/Office 2000. The installation went fine however
the same problem occurs. Also on either PC I can run the unused
files report which lists all the files I need (the ones I just
added). But I don't know how to make an unused file, used.

thanks. I actually followed those same steps yesterday (for
adding a baggage file). I was able to get the file to appear in the
baggage folder but after compiling, when I click on the link,
nothing happens. Whereas before I'd get the "cannot display
    webpage" error.

  • Adobe Reader Will Not Display Large PDFs

When using the Adobe Reader app on PlayBook it will not display some PDFs. It seems that it will not display PDFs that are too large.
Some files that might be too large do not display while smaller files do display in the app. The too large range could be in the 12 MB region where the good range could be 6 MB or less.
I tried to submit feedback to BlackBerry on this issue but it returned my email saying it could not process my request. I am hoping that they read it here.
Here is a link to a page with both readable and unreadable files:
    http://www.bossus.com/backstage/product_manuals/?group=2
A readable PDF is the owner's manual for the RV-3. A unreadable PDF is the owner's manual for the RC-3.

That looks like a perfectly good PDF, but since it's trying to open in Microsoft Word, that means your file association for .pdf files is incorrect.  You should change it to point to Adobe Reader instead of Word.

After updating to 4.0, PDF files will not display in the browser window as before. All I get is blank screen. Everything works fine in IE9. I have updated all the plug-ins, including Adobe Acrobat. Also have enable Display PDF in browser in Acrobat Reader.

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.
You can use these steps to check if images are blocked:
    * Open the web page that has the images missing in a browser tab.
    * Click the website favicon ([[Site Identity Button]]) on the left end of the location bar.
    * Click the "More Information" button to open the "Page Info" window with the Security tab selected (also accessible via "Tools > Page Info").
    * Go to the <i>Media</i> tab of the "Tools > Page Info" window.
    * Select the first image link and scroll down through the list with the Down arrow key.
    * If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.
