.pdf with no security settings won't place in InDesign

A received .pdf file with no security settings will not place in InDesign.  I receive a "This PDF document was saved with security settings which prevents its pages from being placed."  Even when I save it as a new .pdf with no security settings, it won't place.  I'm currently using Acrobat Pro X.  Please advise.  Thanks!

It could be you need to restore your InDesign preferences. Follow these directions:

This is a lap top. Yesterday nor today we could not display firefox and that is how I would normally logon to the computer. Firefox kept coming up and saying it could not display page. Today I uninstalled firfox and tryed to re-install, now a box comes up and says my security settings won't allow it.

Make sure that you do not run the file directly, but save the file to the Desktop and start the installation via a double-click.<br />
You may need to unlock the file via the right-click context menu: Properties > Security

  • How to create a pdf document with specific security settings

    Hallo,
in Adobe Acrobat you can set security settings which make documents unprintable, unchangeable etc.
What I want to do is: I want to set these security settings by creating the pdf-document, because I do not want to open every document and change the security settings. Is this possible at all???
    Thank you for help
    Elisabeth

How are you creating the documents? If using Adobe PDF printer, use the security options in Adobe PDF printer settings. If using PDFMakers (Acrobat buttons inside Office applications, open the Preferences menu item and set security there)

  • Security settings won't let JavaScript even open a document?

Yes, I know this question has been covered a hundred times or more in this forum.  I'm also very sorry for adding to the list of people who don't understand it, but…  Well, I don't understand it.
I'm very familiar with JavaScript and ExtendScript.  I've got it enabled in my copy of Acrobat X Pro and can seem to execute simple commands in the JavaScript Debugger Console, like "3 + 4".  However, when I try to do something that seems trivial, like opening a document thusly:
    var document = app.openDoc("/Volumes/g/ ArtDept/Product Templates/ ProofCover/proof_cover.pdf");
The debugger console gives me the error that has plagued so many thousands of Acrobat scripters:
NotAllowedError: Security settings prevent access to this property or method.
    App.openDoc:1:Console undefined:Exec
So, can anyone please explain to me, in plain English, what this error means and, more importantly, how I can bypass it.  I do not want to run a folder-level script, since, from what I've read, those are executed upon launching Acrobat.  Great for adding menu items to Acrobt, but not for what I need.  Instead, I want this code to be called from an InDesign script to automate a simple task in Acrobat.
Can anyone please walk me through what I need to do to get this simple 'openDoc' task performed?  Or, at least, point me to a resource that can walk me through it?

    @Gilad D, you are a genius.
I'm still relatively new to Macs and their file structure, so this one made me facepalm a bit.  It turns out that the filename I had going on ("/Volumes/g/ ArtDept/Product Templates/ ProofCover/proof_cover.pdf") was too much.  I had to remove the first level, making the result: ("/g/ ArtDept/Product Templates/ ProofCover/proof_cover.pdf").  When done this way, the script works perfectly.  I shall definitely remember that "this.path" property for future reference!
In fact, it even works in the Javascript console.  In further fact, it even does so without the need for a folder-level script.  But that's not a concern at the moment.  The bottom line is that I have at least been able to get Acrobat to open a file, replace a page, then do a Save As command, then close the file.  Thanks for all of the help; I'm now off to write a new post to ask about my current problem, which is much more complicated.

  • How can I get a downloaded application to run when security settings won't allow it?

I am trying to run an application today that I downloaded from Safari. I run this every single business day by control - clicking to open it in Finder. Today it won't allow me to open it all because of my security settings. When I temporarily remove my security settings it still will not let me open it. How can I run an application every time, when I want to run it, regardless of my security settings?
I am using Safari, Mavericks, and MacBook Pro.

Your control is allowing the app to run or not. I'm not sure what other type of control you could possibly mean since any app, once running, does whatever it does; you can't control any app past that point.
If you prefer not to disable the settings in the System Preferences, then right click on the app and choose Open. That will allow that app to run while still leaving the basic security feature on. You only need to do this once. The app will be assumed as trusted after that.

  • Scripting 'Save PSD as PDF with password security' and 'Open PDF with password security' issue.

    Hi!
I'm now building an extension for Photoshop. The script (jsx) should save the active document as Photoshop PDF secured with a password. The PW is the same all the time and is set in the script. Then the script is to open the PDF with that same password. I need all this to protect the PDF from opening by a user, so that only the script has access to the file.
I've googled a lot. I've seen a similar topic on this community dated as 2012. It's not answered. With an only comment saying that saving with a password seems to be possible via GUI and not via a script.
    Has anything changed since 2012?
P.S. Illustrator .documentPassword and .requireDocumentPassword don't work in PS and ScriptListener still gives nothing :-/

    ScriptListener still gives nothing
Which probably means the task is (still) not possible to achieve with Photoshop Scripting.
Both Photoshop DOM and AM seem to have weaknesses/omissions that I would consider more relevant but if you regard the issue as crucial you may want to post a Feature Request over at

  • My Win7 Ultimate will not allow LR4 to download.Note:Current security settings won't allow.

My Win7 Ultimate will not allow LR4 to download. Message is"current security settings do not allow file to be downloaded". I have shut down all antivirus programs...still no luck. ?What to do?

More detail about your scenario is needed:
Windows 7 doesn’t download anything, itself.  If you are using a browser to download and it is a browser security message then poke around in the browser settinsg to see if you can see a setting to enable or disable to allow downloads.  If you are in a managed network environment it is possible that the downloads are disabled by a group policy that cannot be overridden by the normal user and you’d have to take up your issue with your supervisor or network administration personnel.
Assuming you’re using Internet Explorer, you might also just try another browser, like Firefox or Chrome available that might have more relaxed security settings.
The source of the message should be somewhat obvious and whatever is issuing the message is the thing to tweak the settings of.  This really isn’t a Windows Security forum so don’t expect anyone to give you click-by-click instructions for each browser type and version.

  • Security settings won't let me paste into a form - WHY?

So... I'm filling out a form, but when I get to the Zip COde, I'm suddenly told "Your browser security settings don't permit the automatic execution of paste operations. Please use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+V instead".
In the first place, I ''had'' used Ctrl+V. And certainly I never set up my seurity this way, so I think it's a bug in version 3.6.17 - what gives?

  • Problem with N5800 secure web, won't download emai...

    Hi,
I just thought I would share my experiences as I couldn't find any comments on this. I brought a Red stripped Nokia 5800 from Virgin and although I could get the email (Mail for exchange) to sync over wifi, it wouldn't do so over GPRS. Plus voice mail hold down the 1 key wouldn't work and hotmail would not load in the browser. The solution I found was to go to Applications > Downloads > Mail for exchange update 2.0.9.158 (or something similar) and now it all works perfectly.
Apparently it was something to do with the secure data packets which they have fixed in this update.
    Good luck.

The update didin't fully work, I've since found its a problem with t mobile (including virgin) phones. See:
    http://www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/showthread.php?t=77526
To fix this problem on the Nokia 5800 do the following, but make sure you note your settings before doing so just incase you need to restore:
    Settings > Connecting > Destinations > wap services > Options > Edit > Options > Advance settings.
Delete the proxy server setting and the proxy port address.
    All should then be well.

  • Problem with SQL Security Settings

I've run into an odd problem since moving to ColdFusion 8
Enterprise Edition. Any text string submitted to an action page
through a form will return an error ("Executing the SQL statement
is not allowed.") if it contains text that conforms to a disallowed
SQL command. For example, I've turned off the "create" as an
allowed SQL statement in my datasources. If I submit a form that
includes the following text, "Go back to the beginning of the
document; create a title," I get the error message. This occurs in
richtext form fields as well as in standard input form fields. If I
turn off the security setting so that "create" is an allowed SQL
command, the error goes away and (fortunately) no table is created.
It appears that ColdFusion is checking for the presence of
illegal commands even in text strings that are delimited by single
quotes in a query -- and even when those text strings wouldn't
actually do anything to a database.
Has anyone else run into this? Am I missing a setting on my
Administrator? Or am I missing something obvious? I'm not pleased
about the options I have at this point -- turning off some of my
security settings or allowing errors to occur and telling people
not to use semicolons as a workaround.
Thanks for any help you might offer.

Are you using <cfqueryparam...> tags? It sounds like
    you are directly
passing the form text into the SQL statement. If this is what
    you are
doing, then you are probably getting the expected, safest
    results. If
you do not use the <cfqueryparam...> tag to tell
    ColdFusion and your
database that this is a bound parameter then it is possible
    that the
text is expected to contain SQL code and it will be parsed as
    such.
To give clearer advice it would be helpful to see an example
    of your code.

  • How to "Ink Markup" a PDF when Security Settings won't Allow it?

I am an onsite computer tech support person and have been asked to solve a problem that is outside my expertise, and would appreciate any help I can find here.
The Doctor's office recieves electronic faxes from pharmacies that require the doctor's signature before being electronically faxed back, approving the medication or whatever.  Sometimes the faxes come in as .jpg files, and the doctor can use Windows Paint to "sign" a scribble in the image and send it back to the pharmacy.  But sometimes the electronic faxes come in as PDF files, and we hare having a lot of trouble figuring out how to quickly open Adobe Reader (either X or 9.2.0), make a scribble, save the image and shoot it back to the pharmacy, quickly.
I've been doing some research and while the tool "Documents>Sign>Apply Ink Signature" exists, it is non-functional.  In each case, the PDF files "Securities" settings does not allow for "Signing", so my theory is that there is some property in the document that prevents Adobe Reader from allowing a scribble to be made on the file.  I have been able to get Foxit Reader to do this, and this could be a workaround solution, but all the staff are familiar with Adobe Reader, no one has ever used Foxit before, I'm reluctant to add yet another software into their work environment, particularly if Adobe Reader has the ability to do what we want.
Am I correct, that the properties are the problem?  Can these be changed in order to allow the scribble?  Is this a global (computer) setting, or are they going to have to do this on a document-by-document basis.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    George,
Again I thank you for your detailed and informative response.  I think the office in general would prefer to stay with what they know (Adobe), but the idea of having only one workstation capable of manually configuring the documents would make the whole process too cumbersome.  Do you happen to know if there is a "corporate" license, where the office could purchase the ability to use say, 5 installations of Adobe Acrobat?  And if so, what that might cost?
It's true that FoxIt allows you to do this with unsecured documents, and that it's free. But it too would be unable to work with documents that have security restrictions that prevent commenting.
This is the thing.  The documents I was unable to "sign" using Adobe Reader had some kind of "security restrictions" as the Properties said specifically that "signing" was "not allowed", yet Foxit had no issue with this, so I am wondering if the impediments to editting these documents are something that is some kind of default behavior by Adobe Reader, as they were not created by Adobe, yet when they arrive in PDF form, Adobe assumes they cannot be "signed".  I think it's a "you can't, unless the document says you can" type of situation, but only for Adobe.  I don't think Foxit is playing by Adobe's rules.
While the office may have different types of PDF's coming in & out for various reasons, there is only one class of PDFs that need a manual "signature".  The "old way" of doing it was to print the PDF to paper, sign the paper, then scan the paper back to electronic format and then send it off via (internet-based) FAX.  Very cumbersome.
These documents are electronically generated; there is no "author" per se.  No one is delibarately setting any kind of Security Setting to allow or prohibit "signing".  It just now occured to me that finding out how these documents come to us in this condition is worth pursuing, because it may be a simple matter of changing the way these faxes are recieved to have them come in as editable JPG files, rather than Security-encumbered PDF's.  I just spend some time troubleshooting a driver issue for a Scanner, and found out you can choose it's output to be BMP, JPG, etc... so I am wondering if there is the ability to alter how an incoming FAX is outputted.
Again I think you for your time and expertise,
    J. Quick

  • PDFs with password security will not open on Blackberry tablet

I'm  a designer, pretty clued with everything Mac based. I put password security on PDFs sent out to clients to restrict editing, theft of images, maps, high resolution printing etc.
However, they won't open on Blackberry tablets, if they do, they show as blank, grey pages. The same PDFs without secuity will open. Client tells me he is using up to date Adobe Reader. To be clear, I do not create a password requirement for opening the PDFs, just to restrict editing etc.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I've had this same exact problem quite often ever since the update to version 7.6.2.9 on Windows Vista Home Premium. The only solution I have found is to go into Task Manager and find the two I-Tunes processes that are running and END those two processes. I don't know what other problems doing this could cause and it is VERY annoying! It might be a good idea to reboot after fixing it. I hope this gets fixed soon.
