I have ePub documents that won't open using iBooks, how can i get them formatted so that I can use them

You could try downloading a program called Calibre.  It is very good at converting files between formats.  I use it all the time to convert PDF's from work to read on iTunes when I don't want to have to keep zooming in and out to read the actual text.
I know that iBooks will read PDF's but they can get pretty squashed down some times. Especially if the original font was small to begin with.  So I run them through Calibre and then email them to my phone and open them in iBooks.

  • PDF won't open in iBooks

PDF won't open in iBooks  open appears open for a second then disappears.

I just updated to the latest update 4.3.2 and it works fine! Apparently something in the 4.3.1 update caused it to not work.

  • Using 10.6.8, internet pdf documents not opening using Adobe Reader; how is this corrected?

Using 10.6.8, internet pdf documents not opening using Adobe Reader; how is this corrected?  I've tried changing "sharing and permissions" to "read and write" as suggested on other help sites, but this did not correct the problem.

I had the same problem---contacted Adobe and their service rep helped me by
    A.   Deleting  Adobe Reader from my iMac's Applications in Finder
    B.   Downloading Google Chrome browser and then
    C.   Downloading the latest Adobe Reader for Mac 10.6.8 in Google Chrome--it works
Adobe acknowledges problem with the latest Snow Leopard update 10.6.8 and with this work around, I can open PDF's using the Google Chrome Browser.
Is this the ideal solution---NO.  Safari is my main browser. I now have to use a separate browser for PDF's.
Am I happy to be able to open PDF's---YES
You can't believe the time I spent to solve this problem before calling Adobe for help. My Apple Care policy expired a month ago . As I use Photoshop Elements, I was not charged by Adobe for their help on the telephone.

  • SOME pdfs won't open...

    Dear all,
My problem is kind of odd as you can see in the title...
So some pdfs won't open neither in web browsers (Chrome, Firefox and Safari) nor in Preview. The odd part is that some do open normally both in browsers and Preview.
I deleted the AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin but it doesn't solve the problem.
Anyone has an idea about what can be wrong?
    Thanks for your help,

  • PDF Won't open for my colleagues from Mavericks.

Hey everyone I have a pretty interesting issue that I have contacted Adobe and Apple about but to no avail...
    ISSUE
PDF's won't open when I send them via email (all email clients) on OS X Mavericks, but will open when I send them via PC (all email clients), flash drives or any other means.
Note: Will open on every other platform; OX Mountain Lion, PC, and all email clients not using Mavericks. I have sent out these PDF's for months now (before upgrading to Mavericks) and never had this problem.
    WHAT I'M SEEING
The file is 155kb but when emailing from Mavericks it says 0 bytes.
"Acrobat could not open "file name" because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded). To create an Adobe PDF document, go to the source application. Then print the document to Adobe PDF."
    ENVIRONMENT
Adobe Reader (Not sure what versions my colleagues have)
Tested on Both Windows xp/vista/7/8 and OS X all versions
    STEPS TAKEN THAT HAVEN'T WORKED
    Resaved the file.
Stored it in a different location.
Sent from different email clients on Mavericks
    Rebooted and tried again
    Updated everything
    Uninstall/reinstall
If anyone has any idea on how to identify a fix for the issues, I would greatly appreciate your help.  The problem with the idea that the files are corrupt, is that there I have tested out every possible way to prove the file is curropted and to no avail.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Well I found out the update I reinstalled Safari from(the latest combo update) wasn't working because it was installing an incomplete copy of the application. My friend sent me his copy of Safari and it worked again so my issue is solved. It had to have been user-specific because Safari still worked for other users but in the process of removing my user's Safari related things I probably went too far and that's why I messed it up further. Copying his Safari into my apps folder(and fixing the accounts in its privileges) has solved my problems for that.

  • When I scan in color the PDF won't open.

When I scan a document in 24-bit color or in True Gray with either Adobe Reader 10.1.4 or 11.0.4 It gives me an error message saying I don't have permission to write to that folder. This happens no matter what folder I try to write to. It does create a file of the pdf scan but the file won't open; the error message says the file is damaged.
However if I scan in B&W or in Gray with Error Diffusion everything works fine.
This problem appeared suddently with no apparent cause.

You may want to talk to whomever makes your scanning software. You don't "scan" with Adobe Reader. You simply use it to open files after the fact and it sounds like the scanner software is corrupting the files.

  • Embedded PDF won't open in IOS 7

For months i create EPUB books with embedded PDF files. This way i created product documentation with a french and Dutch extended information file. So when a customer calls i could easily give advise for my products. This worked with a charm till IOS 6.1 and Ibooks.
After my boss updated his iPad to IOS 7 in stead of opening the embedded PDF files iBooks opens a screen with weird text just like would happen as you open a pdf file with notepad....
Is the reason that there were changes in linking to open embedded files.
JPG files open as in the past using an embedded picture viewer i think...
Can there something be done so iBooks will use an internal PDF reader and read the pdf without opening it leaving ibooks which takes to much time.
Thanks in advance for the help
    Danny

The plugin is where I said it was. You're looking in the wrong place. Let's try again.
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin
A Finder window will open with that item selected. Delete it, then quit and relaunch Safari.

  • Pdf won't open in safari

    Hi,
Since Mountain Lion I have a problem with safari. I hoped that upgrading to Mavericks would help, but it didn't.
I cannot open pdfs within Safari on my iMac.
I already saw other threads that helped many people with solutions but for me these doen't help.
I already deleted the adobe plug ins from the library and there are no other plugins for pdf in this folder. In Safari from the menu "installed plug ins" I only see the WebKit built in and a plugin for Speed Download concerning the pdf files.
    I use OSX 10.9.0
    Safari 7.0
    Acrobat Reader 11.0.04
    I also have Glims installed.
Does anybody have a clue what I can do.
    Thank you for your support.

  • PDF won't open in FireFox/IE on XP SP3 if Rdr9.3x and Acrobat 6.06

I've been fighting this for a few days.  The platform is a windows XP SP3 domain client with Acrobat 6.0.6 and Acrobat Reader 9.  (The platform was recently re-installed from scratch owing to malware infestation and is now "pristine".)
I discovered that if I install Acrobat Reader 8 PRIOR to installing Reader 9, PDF files will open in the browser windows.  BUT, if Reader 8 is NOT installed prior to Reader 9, the PDF file won't open and a commonly reported error message occurs.
FireFox shows that when the viable installation sequence (as above) is followed, the Adobe Acrobat Plugins installed include support for mime types: pdf, vnd.adobe.pdfxml, vnd.adobe.x-mars, vnd.fdf, vnd.adobe.xfdf, vnd.adobe.xdp+xml, and vnd.adobe.xfd+xml.  If Reader 8 is NOT installed prior to Reader 9, only the pdf mime type.
The PDFs that were the immediate cause of all this trouble were PDF forms with blanks to fill-in -- if that makes a difference.
    The symptoms are reproducible.
Also, if you have Reader 9 installed and are experiencing this problem, simply uninstall it, install Reader 8, then install Reader 9.  The required MIME type support seems to be supplied by the Reader 8 installation and stays around when Reader 9 is installed.
    Hope this helps some folks.

  • Certain PDFs won't open in IE

I'm having a strange issue with PDF files and IE 6-8 on Windows XP.  My company has a website that can be used to create invoices and receipts for members and display that invoice or receipt on the screen.  When I try to do this from one specific computer, I see a second IE window flash up for a split second, and where I should normally see the invoice or receipt in either IE or Acrobat itself, the screen just disappears.
I've rolled back IE 8 to 7 and then 6, the issue stays through all versions.  The issue is not related to checking or unchecking the "Open PDF in Browser" option in Acrobat's settings, I can toggle that setting all day and get the same issue on this site, but if I went to a regular PDF link the PDF file will open in the appropriate location based on what is selected.  The issue is isolated to just IE, there isn't any problem using Firefox or Chrome from the same system.
When I talked to my coworker about how the PDF file is being delivered, from the server it is being pushed as a memory stream, which the way that he explained to me is that the PDF is never a file on the server, it is just in memory and pushed to the workstation that is requesting the invoice or receipt.  Out of 100 computers in the building with the exact same configuration, this is the only one experiencing this issue.
As I have said, I have rolled back all versions of IE, I have uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat X, even going through the manual uninstallation process to make sure that any previous versions of Acrobat were removed from files and registry keys, have verified that this problem is happening for any user account on the system not just the primary user, and have done pretty much everything that I can think of shy of reimaging the system to try to resolve this issue.  Is there anything else that I can try to do before resorting to reimaging as a resolution?  Thanks

  • PDFs won't open directly from emails

Using Mac OS X 10.6.6, running Acrobat 9 Pro 9.4.1.
I have associated the PDF file format with Acrobat, using the Get Info menu, but cannot open PDFs directly from internet, emails, or by double-clicking on a PDF on my computer.
In order to open a PDF, I have to first save the PDF and then open it in Acrobat from the File > Open menu.
If anyone has a suggestion, I'd greatly appreciate it.

The version of system X for Mac really doesn't Matter. If you use any web Browser from Mozilla. SeaMonkey, FireFox, Camino and any Browser that uses the Gecko web engine, that normal.
Safari, iCab, and others that use Webkit take advantage of the included Adobe PDFviewer Plugin. PDF's except some types are shown directly. There are some types no matter how you have browser is set, will always be download first, before viewing the PDF.
I've sent bug report, after Bug report, after Bug report to Adobe to fix this byt after trying since the days X.2.8  I Guess it is falling on deaf ears. Or perhaps the developers just don't know how.
    Chrome handles PDF's differently.
There is a Plugin for Gecko based Browsers, that has been partially broken with AcrobatX on Forms with buttons that use a Graphic overlay. They don't work only the button without the graphic shows up.
Adobe has changed the way Graphics are inserted totally in AcrobatX, its almost impossible to insert a Graphic.  In Acrobat 9 its as easy as falling off a log. You inserted Graphic the overlay the button over top.
The plugin that still works (except partially broken in AcrobaxtX) is called PDFBrowser Plugin by Shubert of Germany. It even works with Webkit Browsers. But not IE.

  • CS5 won't open using CONT+H in PSE8

For some reason CS5 won't open with the Cont+H hot key in PSE8 but will load if using the menu drop down...any ideas how to fix this?

It's normally ctrl+E to edit in an external program; at least from Lightroom to CS5
First you must set up the external editor in preferences.

  • Iweb 2.0.3 won't open using OSX 10.4.11

Hi there, have had a look at a few forum postings but most appear to be from last year so thought i'd start a fresh one.
I recently updated my version of iWeb to 2.0.3. I'm using OSX10.4.11 on both a MBP and a G4. My problem is the program won't open.
I had tried deleting a plist file in the preferences folder as suggested in previous forums, but this hasn't made any difference except now I can't see the site I was working on. I have on my screen at the top the iweb options, file, edit etc but am unable to select any of these.
When I press the mouse cursor to select it turns into a spinning ball of death, round and round it goes....I haven't moved the site folder or anything like that, all I have done is update the software as suggested and now have this problem. Any useful advice would be appreciated as I rang support but my care plan ended 2 weeks ago, so it will cost $50...
    Cheers,

First delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and see if iWeb will launch. If it does ignore the following.
If deleting the preference file doesn't help, copy the Domain.sites2 file from your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb file to the Shared file on the Mac. Log into another account (create one if you don't have a second account), move the Domain.sites 2 file from the Shared account to the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder for that account and launch iWeb.
Download and run BatChmod on the Domain.sites package with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name in the owner section and Staff in the group section. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. This is to insure the ownership and permissions are changed to the new account.
If iWeb opens and runs as it should you can publish from that account. You'll have to go into the System preferences to the .Mac section and put in the correct information for the account, i.e name, password, etc.
If iWeb works in the other account there could be a preference file other than iWeb's in your primary account that's causing the problem. To determine if that's the case try the following:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences in Leopard
1 - Create a folder titled "Preferences A" on the Desktop.
2 - Open the working Preferences folder, HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences, and move the contents to the Preferences A folder on the Desktop.
3 - Make a duplicate copy of the Preferences A folder on the Desktop as a precautionary backup.
4 - With the working Preferences folder empty run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed.
5 - If the problem is fixed:
A - open the working Preferences folder (HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences).
B - Open the Preferences A folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here.
6 - If the problem is NOT fixed, empty the working Preferencess folder and move the contents of the Preferences folder on the desktop back into it.
