PDF won't print properly - some letters squeezed together

Using a Mac and Reader 9 and two different laser printers (Canon and Brother). PDF won’t print text properly. Some letters are jammed / squeezed together. Last week I used Mac’s Preview Program / App to bypass the PDF print menu to get it to print the PDF properly but no luck today. How to fix?

Printing as an image fixed the letter-jamming thing, thanks Michael. A new problem though.
This is a 16 page booklet printed on 8.5x11. Each page is set at 5.5x8.5. I have made two PDF files:
1) 16 individual pages 5.5x8.5 in portrait mode and
2) 8 pages 8.5x11 in landscape mode with one page of the booklet on each half of the page (properly formatted to create a 16 page booklet).
The problem in using either one of these files are these:
1) When I use the 16 individual page file and make a booklet under the print menu, it shrinks the combined pages to less than 8.5x11.
2) When I try to print the 8 page file of an already formatted booklet, the image is the right size but the back of each sheet is printed upside-down.
How do I fix either one of these problems, preferably both? All suggestions welcome.

  • PDFs won't print (Lion and HP laserjet 1300)

I just upgraded to Lion and pdfs won't print. It doesn't appear to be the printer driver, because the printer works with others apps. Any suggestions? It's an HP Laserjet 1300. Yes, it's old, but still works, well, sometimes. just not with pdfs.

    Hi Andreais,
I found some useful tips on the HP forum as well. Maybe it is helpful in your case as well: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Mac-Printing-and-Scanning/HPDesignjet-130NR-no-long er-prints-PDF-properly/m-p/768507/highlight/true#M18877

  • InDesign doc exported to PDF won't print

I'm experiencing issues with an exported PDF from InDesign. More specifically, when I export the InDesign doc to a PDF and try to print, I don't have any issues, nor does anyone else in my office, however some of the people that I'm sending the document to are experiencing trouble printing it. They get to 44% flattened and then the printing process slows down, and then once it reaches 50% they get a pop-up window saying that the document can't print and the whole thing stops. They can print the first page by just selecting that page, however the second page cannot be printed this way. I have re-exported the PDF several times and these folks having the issues have cleared their browser cache, re-downloaded the document, saved it to their desktop before opening, and tried renaming the document as well.
What's going on here, and what can I do or tell them to do to fix this?
Also, updating their Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat does not solve the problem.

Hi, I was just wondering if you got the problem resolved. I'm asking because we are experiencing kind of the same issue in our office. Our Marketing Manager is using Adobe InDesign and exports her documents to PDF. These PDFs won't print in any of our printers in the office. It spools and then gets stuck and it actually makes our HP Coloured Laser Printer throw an error (error 79) and we'll have to restart the printer due to this error. We can print other documents and other PDFs in the printer so we know it's not a printer driver issue. In fact, we have isolated the problem to only PDFs exported from InDesign. Even if we create a blank document from InDesign and export it to PDF it still won't print. Really odd. We would appreciate if you could share your solution if you were able to fix the issue. Thanks!!

  • Adobe PDF won't print non-working time colour in MS Project

Adobe PDF won't print the colour chosen for non-working times in MS Project.  I have tried changing the colour, changing the style, moving non-working time in front of tasks and have fiddled with the printer properties, all to no avail.  It ignores whatever style I have for non-working time and makes a blank space, although it will take gridline changes . . . . please help!

Thank you for providing the suggestion and the Cleanup tools, however they did not help.
I ran each version of the cleanup tool, and for each I had it clean up Reader and Acrobat (i.e. 4 separate cleanup operations).  I then rebooted the machine, and installed Reader 11.0.3.
Still had the same behavior:  Reader will not print.  I tried printing to a second printer (that is attached via USB)...and it did not work either.  I also tried printing to a Cute PDF Writer print driver...and that did not work either.  In each case, no print data made it to the Windows print queue (as demonstrated by watching the queue while printing.)  No error was raised, but no print data was transmitted.
I then uninstalled Reader 11.0.3, rebooted, and re-installed Reader 9:  printing works fine now.
There is definitely something in Reader 10 and Reader 11 that breaks printing in some environments.    (As you alluded to...I have seen a number of postings online about printing problems in Reader.)
    More details about my environment:
    Windows 7 Professional N (Version 6.1, Build 7601: Service Pack 1)
    VMWare virtual machine
Two virtual CPUs (each: Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67 GHz, 2673 Mhz, 1 core, 1 Logicial Processor)
    Hardware Abstraction Layer:  6.1.7601.17514
RAM:  3096 (allocated to virtual machine)
    Bridged networking
    VMware host:
    Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit 6.1.7601, Service Pack 1
    18 Gig RAM
    Intel Core i7 CPU 920 @2.67 GHz
    VMWare Workstation 9.0.2 build-1031769
(but problem existed on older version of VMWare Workstation 7.x as well)

  • PDFs won't print on new HP printer

I recently added a HP CM1415fnw printer in my office and I cannot print any PDF documents. Word and Excel print fine. Why?

Happily, Windows 7 is in and everything seems to work fine. I have to
navigate around my desktop a bit differently, but everything seems to be
compatible. I especially have to work now with printing Word docs to PDF.
    I'll get there...

  • HELP! Images won't print properly!

    Hello,
I am trying to print an InDesign CS4 document but when I convert it to a pdf and print it some of the images have lines through them and are half transparent. The rest are fine. I did not create this document so I am unsure of what process the individual photographs have gone through. I have checked preflight and it says no errors and has a green button.
I cannot print directly from InDesign CS4 as it gives an error message on the printer..."can't create PictWPSDoc from `/private/var/spool/cups/d00062-001'.ERROR during execution of pictwpsto".
Ideally I would like to solve both these issues but to be able to print the document either way would be great!
Any help is much appreciated as I am getting desperate!

It's do with your printer more than anything else, probably can't handle the file. Hard to know without knowing what printer you have?
You printer (if a desktop out of the shop one) won't have very hi-res anyway, usually around 150 - 200 dpi.
So you could probably print it as a bitmap and not see any difference in picture quality.
Hold on there, Eugene. Printers today output in the range of 600 - 1200 DPI, but tend to use screen frequencies in the range of 100 LPI which means an image resolution at print size in the 150 to 200 PPI range is usually adequate.
    DaraClare2,
I'm curious how this looks on screen with overprint preview turned on. Also, what version of ID are you using, and what formats are the images used?
And expensive printers, especially from Xerox, are not immune to some quirks.

  • I can't print a pdf, don't print the black letters, there is a lot of buttons like space navy ship of NASA

1.- You gringos, NOT ALL THE WORLD IS THE GARBAGE USA, we need forums in various language, out side, there is a WORLD WITH MANY OTHER COUNTRIES, THAT SPEAK A LOT OF DIFERENT LANGUAGES.
2.- Why I can't find a simple thing: PRINT IN WHITE AND BLACK... Is that a great thing to ask?
We don't want a lot of options to print, we don't want print in colors, grays, combinations, etc... WE ONLY WANT ONE BUTTON: "PRINT"
3.- It's very dificult to find the correcto combination, because you offer a lot of buttons and options...
4.- I have 4 hours trying to print a simple pdf document... and I can't because NO PRINT THE BLACK LETTERS...
5.- How can I to do, for a simple print of a document pdf.
6.- You turned the printing in a trip to the moon, with a lot of buttons, options, combinations... ALL IN ENGLISH, IS VERY INSANE...
7.- I'm very angry... now I understand to OSAMA BIN LADEN... I DON'T SUPORT THEY, BUT I WISH YOU GRINGOS WILL CHANGE YOUR BRAIN.

I get the answer, I found the solution:
1.- At first time, I offer my apologyzes for my offensive words against americans, and people of adobe reader.
You are not gringos, You are Americans.
USA is not Garbage, is a great country.
I found a page of adobe in Spanish, and yes, there is in many other languages pages of adobe reader.
My PDF is in spanish, thanks american people for create invents, and pages in many languages.
I'm really sorry for september 11, it was unfair, inhuman, a tragedy. Never again the war, we love peace.
2.- I was very angry, because I lost money, because I can't finish my work, because I can't print the PDF document.
    3.- The solution was:
Step 1: down the most recent version of adobe reader.
Step 2: Choose the option "advanced", and then choose the option: "print like an image".
    YA encontré la solución...
    Paso 1.-

  • My applet won't print properly

I wrote an applet that draws a line graph based on parameters I feed it through <PARAM> tags. Those tages are written dynamically with Cold Fusion. It works perfectly, but what good is a graph if you can't have a copy of it? When I try to print the page with the applet running in it, nothing comes out. My computer is running Win98, IE 6.0 and proper printer drivers. The funny thing is I am able to print some of the demo applets that come with the JDK, but my own applet will not print. It can be printed from other computers around my office. I thought maybe it was IE 6 acting up so I tried Netscape 4.7, 6.0, and Opera 6.0 none of them can print my applet from my computer. I'm just worried that someone out there will have the same problem as me.
The way I'm drawing the graphs is by overloading the default paint method of the applet. Like I said, it works fine on some computers, and a variety of web browsers, exept IE 6. I looked at the source code of the sample applets that WERE ABLE to print on my computer, I realized they extended the Canvas class, overloaded its paint method, then added the canvas to the applet's panel. I tried to mimic that with my applet and still no luck. I compile the sample applet and mimic the html sample page and then it won't print anymore. Any thoughts on what is going on?

To print an applet in action make a
    SCREENSHOT!
The online game players always do this to save screens.
On WIN 98 it is: STRG+PAUSE I guess.
Copy the screenshot to e.g. paint.exe and print.
    Hope this helps.

  • Acrobat X PDF Won't Print

I installed Acrobat X the other day.
Today, I tried printing a PDF document, but it won't print.
When I click OK, I get an error message that reads: document cannot print, then another message that reads no pages were selected.
If I click on printer, and select print from there, nothing happens.

pleasure: if you open the file in Acrobat Pro and save as, that sometimes does the trick as well. (if it does then its a better solution)

  • PDF won't print beyond a certain page.

I have sent a 52 page pdf to a client created in Adobe InDesign. They have tried printing it, and it won't print beyond page 23, on multiple printers. I am able to print all pages at home, so I don't know if the problem is somewhere in the pdf's setup, or the clients printers. Has anyone run into this issue before? Thank you for any suggestions.

'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * Open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
Please report back with your report.

  • PDF won't print out

I have windows 7 and adobe xi. I can't print out a pdf. It won't go to the printer. I tried downloading it and then opening but still won't print.

No error messages; just wont go to the printer?
Try 'Print as Image' (Advanced button on Print panel).

  • SwordfishExpress won't print properly

My old standby SwordfishExpress (an app used to print post office shipping labels) was working fine under 10.5 but the print quality is terrible with snow leopard. I tried both an Epson and a Canon printer with updated drivers. It prints out so fuzzy that the bar code can't be read at the post office. Any ideas on how to make it work again? thanks

I guess one workaround is to use SwordfishExpress on my old laptop which still has 10.5 on it, which I did today, but I'd sure like to find a way to get SwordfishExpress to print properly in Snow Leopard.

  • PDFs Won't Print

I can't print PDFs to my Brother printer. I get the error message /usr/libexed/cups/filter/pstoraster failed. Please help! I am running OSX 10.6.8.

I can print everything but pdf files. I have had this problem with an older Brother printer (model MFC 7840W) but I didn't deal with it because I had an old OKI color printer that I was using as my primary printer and it had no problems. The OKI died last week and we got a new Brother MFC-9970CDW. Now I can't print pdfs to either printer.
My default for opening PDFs is Acrobat 9 Pro v 9.4.6. I also use this to modify PDF files and to create forms so changing to Preview or another way of opening the files is not a good option.
I know other people are having this issue but I have not been able to find a good solution in any of the threads I have read online.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Excel doc created on PC, edited on my Mac, sent back to PC won't print properly.  Do I have to buy Microsoft office for Mac?

I have to complete their Excel form, send back, they add to it, they want to print it and say it won't print as I see it.  I don't want to buy Microsoft office for Mac just for this... any ideas?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
A couple of ideas... when you exported the document did you check "do compatibility check" for Word? If not that's probably it. Other solutions: - OpenOffice, or NeoOffice play well with MS Word. Either of them are free downloads.
