PDFMaker rasterizes a Vector EMF file

Greetings!
I use PDFMaker add-in of Adobe Acrobat Pro (11.0.10) with Word 2013 to PDF a document, which contains a vector EMF file.
After conversion I see that original vector image is rasterized completely. If I either save the same source Word document As PDF in Word or print it via Adobe PDF printer the EMF vector image stays vector in result PDF. If you want I can share the EMF file that causes the issue.
I am forced to use PDFMaker as I need to convert Word bookmarks to PDF as well.
What can cause this behavior and how can I try fixing it?
Thank you for the prompt reply.

Dear Sukrit,
I have sent you an e-mail message, where attached two files causing the issue, as well as DOCX that you might want to convert to PDF using PDFMaker of Adobe Acobat Pro (11.0.10).
Please let me know results of the investigation.

  • How do you prevent Acrobat PDFMaker from rasterizing vector graphics?

I am using the "Create PDF" button (provided by the Acrobat PDFMaker in Acrobat X) to create a PDF from a Microsoft Word 2010 document.
This works fine, except that vector graphics in the Word document appear in the resulting PDF as raster graphics. (That is, when I zoom in, document text outside the graphics appears smooth, but the graphics are blocky; and text inside the graphics that should be retained as text - it's not converted to curves - is just pixels.)
The original artwork for the vector graphics is in CorelDRAW X6 (sorry, Adobe!).
I have exported the following files from the original vector drawing in CorelDRAW:
    - EPS (with TIFF preview)
    - Windows metafile (.wmf)
    - Enhanced metafile (.emf)
I can insert any of these files into Word okay (Insert > Picture), but the resulting PDF always contains a rasterized (bitmapped) version of the vector graphic ("line art").
From memory, this didn't use to happen in my previous working environment (Acrobat 8 Pro with Word 2003, using artwork exported from CorelDRAW 12).
How do you prevent Acrobat X PDFMaker from rasterizing vector graphics? Or is Word 2010 (or CorelDRAW X6) somehow to "blame" here?

    Transparency Flattening is being invoked.
From the Create PDF button, select Properties, what is your setting for Default Settings? Select High Quality Print

  • Problem in converting Word Document into PDF after inserting EMF file

    Hi
I have VB 6.0 program, which automatically inserts an EMF file in to MS-Word and converts it in to Post Script file and finally to PDF.
But the Size of the generated PDF file is too large i.e., 8MB
If am inserting an .PNG file in MS-Word and conveting it in to Post Script and finally in to PDF, the size of PDF file is somewhere around 330KB.
I am using Acrobat Distiller 6.0 for this conversion
Can any one let me how I can reduce the file size of PDF, if I insert an EMF file.
    Thanks in Advance
    Vijay Kumar

Saying a WMF file does not mean much. It could be a bitmap with 2400dpi or a vector graphic. WMF and EMF are wrappers that can include both. You may be best to open the WMF in PhotoShop or Illustrator and see if you can get a consistent size, possibly doing a copy and paste to WORD.

  • Automatically rasterize all vector drawings (minus texts) in the PDF

    Hi
I looked at the Adobe Acrobat documentation and also inside FAQs of this forum for did not find this specific information. If I missed anything, please just tell me
I have a PDF containing lot's of vector drawing made in Illustrator. The PDF was generated from Adobe InDesign. So the PDF is a mix of texts and vector drawings.
I want to send this PDF document in web, but, for some legal purposed, these vector drawings should all be rasterized. For sure I can open each .AI original document, rasterize all the content, then relink to the InDesign Document (so the exported PDF is text and all as raster images).
But, as I'm referring to 100 pages PDF, containing, at minimum, 150 vector drawings, this takes a long time to open each artwork in Illustrator and manually generate a rasterized copy to use in the final PDF.
So the question is: Is there any way (in Acrobat or any plug-in, app...) to open a PDF document, then automatically rasterize all vector drawings (minus texts) in a specific resolution? For example, rasterize all to 150 pixels per inch.
Using Acrobat DC in Windows 8.1 OS.
    Thank you very much
    Gustavo.

    Hi Aandi
    Thank you for the answe!!!
Do you see any workaround I could try? Or the way is to really open each .AI file in Illustrator, then rasterize manually?
    Best Regards
    Gustavo.

  • Emf file- gray lines

    Hi Everyone,
i have some graphics *.*emf files from Matlab. when i use graphic on MS Word there is no problem it looks like an orginalm forms but when i convert word file to Pdf with Adobe Pdr Writer, add some gray lines on my graphic (pictures are below). how i can solve this problem, Thanks

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
It is a mapping of Microsoft graphics primitives into a file.
we are using bitmap.save function of microsoft .net framework to save to a .emf format.
Since it uses  bitmap basically, the saved file may not contain vector graphics.
My question is whether Illustrator supports to import/open this type of files?
    Regards,
    VP

  • Import .emf files to PS CS6X

Is there an import plugin to read .emf files directly into PS CS6X on PC?  I have very large that I'd like to rasterize in PS.  Now what I have to do is load to MSPaint and output as .bmp but have no control of the dpi so output is not as good as it could be.
I have older version of Illustrator and will not import the .emf files.
    Thanks,
    RONC

I looked up .emf perhaps you could do better with ADCSee http://filext.com/file-extension/EMF then with MSPaint...

  • Is it possible to export Vector Smart Objects as vector SVG files from Photoshop CC 2014?

I have Vector Smart Objects copied from Illustrator and pasted into Photoshop. I would like to export them as vector SVG files (using Generator or Extract Assets). I can add the .svg extension to the layer and actually export an SVG just fine. The problem is any SVG I have exported have all been raster images. It defeats the purpose of having that as an option as far as I'm concerned.
I remember watching and listening to keynotes and other speakers at Adobe MAX 2014 who said it was so powerful and amazing to create SVG files from Photoshop. If we're still exporting raster SVG files from Photoshop...that's not very impressive or exciting--especially since this era of modern web development benefits greatly from using vector SVG files.
I understand that Shape Layers can be exported as vector SVG files but that seems very limiting. I also realize that users can create some impressive vectors in Photoshop, but that is not optimal. Illustrator is a better tool for creating vectors and I normally use Photoshop and Illustrator side-by-side. I know that vector SVG files can be exported from Illustrator but that isn't as user friendly and convenient as utilizing Photoshop > Generator > Reflow.
My idea was to create my assets in Illustrator, paste them into Photoshop as Vector Smart Objects, set up my layout, and then use the Generator/Reflow method or Extract Assets to get a new web design started.
Maybe I misunderstood what the speakers at Adobe MAX had said. Perhaps it's just user error and I'm just missing something simple (it happens).
Photoshop CC 2014 notes the following under Help > System Info:
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 2014.2.2 20141204.r.310 2014/12/04:23:59:59 CL 994532  x64

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for your time.

Not quite the same, but have a look at the new Libraries feature that came with 2014.2.2  I just tried it, and dragging a vector object into a library I created in Photoshop, was there in Illustrator.  This happens without having to close and reopen Illustrator.  Just use the drop down at the top of the Libraries panel (in Illustrator) to find your custom, or job specific library.

  • Using a Vector Art File as a matte for an image collage

II have a vector art file of a paw print.  I would like to use it with a variety of photos to create a collage.  I have the image files selected and the vector art file sized, but what I can't figure out is how to have the images seen ONLY inside each toe/pad of the paw print.  Once the file is completed, I would like to be able to flow text around the paw prints so I don't want the entire art board area to be white as this would effect my text wrap properties. Any and all suggestions are welcome!

I developed a Photo Collage Toolkit for Photoshop.  I feel its very easy to create PSD templates that can be populated with images.
    Photo Collage Toolkit
Photoshop scripting is powerful and I believe this package demonstrates this video showing a 5 image collage PSD template being populates with images:
The package includes four simple rules to follow when making Photo Collage Template PSD files so they will be compatible with my Photoshop scripts.
Size the photo collage templates for the print size you want - width, height and print DPI resolution.
Photo collage templates must have a Photoshop background layer. The contents of this layer can be anything.
Photo collage templates must have alpha channels named "Image 1", "Image 2", ... "Image n".
Photo collage templates layers above the background layers must provide transparent areas to let the images that will be placed below them show through.
There are twelve scripts in this package they provide the following functions:
TestCollageTemplate.jsx - Used to test a Photo Collage Template while you are making it with Photoshop.
CollageTemplateBuilder.jsx - Can build Templates compatible with this toolkit's scripts.
LayerToAlphaChan.jsx - Used to convert a Prototype Image Layer stack into a template document.
InteractivePopulateCollage.jsx - Used to interactively populate Any Photo Collage template. Offers most user control inserting pictures and text.
ReplaceCollageImage.jsx - use to replace a populated collage image Smart Object layer with an other image correctly resized and positioned.
ChangeTextSize.jsx - This script can be used to change Image stamps text size when the size used by the populating did not work well.
PopulateCollageTemplate.jsx - Used to Automatically populate a Photo Collage template and leave the populated copy open in Photoshop.
BatchOneImageCollage.jsx - Used to Automatically Batch Populate Collage templates that only have one image inserted. The Collage or Image may be stamped with text.
BatchMultiImageCollage.jsx - Used to Automatically Batch Populate Any Photo Collage template with images in a source image folder. Easier to use than the interactive script. Saved collages can be tweaked.
BatchPicturePackage.jsx - Used to Automatically Batch Populate Any Photo Collage template with an image in a source image folder
PasteImageRoll.jsx - Paste Images into a document to be print on roll paper.
PCTpreferences.jsx - Edit This File to Customize Collage Populating scripts default setting and add your own Layer styles.

  • Rasterization of complex postscript-file crashes in 64-bit Photoshop CS5

Rasterization of complex PS-file crashes in 64-bit Photoshop CS5
I have a variety of complex postscript files that were created in Adobe InDesign CS3 and CS5 through "print to postscript file". I try to rasterize these files in Photoshop CS5 (64 bit on Macintosh) and it crashes Photoshop even before the dialog box comes where one has to specify the dpi for rasterizing. If I use Photoshop CS3 or Photoshop CS5 with 32 Bit opening, it does not crash; and in this case I can rasterize a 100cm x 160cm format with 300 dpi.
If I reduce the complexity to near triviality it works with the 64 bit version.
A major reason why I bought CS5 was because I thought that with the 64 bit version I can handle rasterization of large files better: there are a few minor artifacts created by rasterization in Photoshop 32 bit version which are presumably due to some memory problems; I thought the 64 bit version can solve it. But now it turns out that the 64 bit version cannot handle complex files at all.
If I use Distiller to convert the postscript-File into a pdf file, then the 64-bit version does the rasterization, but there are some reasons why I prefer the rasterization directly from the postscript file.
Is that a bug of the 64 version?
    V.S.

I did a lot of testing in the meantime since we have often the task to printout large charts with complex content on plotters of medium size printing companies who need tiffs since they cannot handle pdfs with complex contents.
It turns out that for large charts with complex content the method to export from Indesign to pdf with PDF/X-1a profile and subsequent rasterization in photoshop to create the tiffs sometimes produces a few minor artifacts; mainly very thin white lines that you see in the printout. Also it is not good if your file contains graphics for which PDF/X-1a profile sometimes does not yield the desired high quality. (In addition the pdf file has a lot of display artifacts visible on screen but not manifesting in the rasterized photoshop file.)
The use of the "High Quality Print" profile (instead of PDF/X-1a profile) makes it worse since sometimes semi-transparent objects are printed as 100 percent solid. The solution in this case is to change the Acrobat 5 compatibility of the "High Quality Print" profile to Acrobat 4 compatibility, this solves the semi-transparent problem, I don't understand why, but it does.
On Macintosh one can print to pdf (instead of export to pdf), this solves all problems with artifacts as far as I can judge; however  "print to pdf" has PDF/X-1a profile and I don't see any direct way how to change it to "High Quality Print" profile. Presumably I would have to locate somewhere in the Library > Adobe Application Support > Adobe (on Mac) the presets for "print to pdf" and change it if possible.
The easiest way on Macintosh that gives no artifacts is for large charts with complex content to "print to postscript" (with Adobe PDF 9.0 PPD), then use distiller with any suitable profile, like "PDF/X-1a-2001" profile or "High Quality Print" profile, to produce a pdf. This pdf looks fine on screen and simultaneously when rasterized with Photoshop (for example the 64 bit version of CS5) gives you a good photoshop file.
You may be right that the workflow
Indesign > print to postscript > pdf via distiller > rasterize to photoshop file
is outdated for simple and medium complex projects, but for those really complex large charts this is the only viable way to my knowledge; I also know that some of my colleagues use this sometimes for complex projects when export to pdf creates artifacts.

  • EMF files have no preview in Bridge CS6

    Sorry I can't help, but…
Common file?  I've been using computers in the course of my work since the 1960s, and I had to do a Google search to figure out what an "EMF file" is.  Just saying…
Remember that Bridge began as nothing more than Photoshop's Image File Browser.  It has been somewhat adapted (or is it just "adopted"?) for the totally artificial "suite" concept.
Inconsistency between or among applications in the artificial "suites" should come as no surprise.
The "suite" concept is a fabrication of Adobe marketing and bean-counting types.  The engineering teams are totally independent of each other, they are not only in different buildings but in different cities and states of the American Union, even in different countries.
The fact that they have little if any communication among them is highlighted by requests occasionally made in these forums by top Adobe engineers to let the other teams know when there are problems in one application that impact our workflow in another one.

  • WMF/EMF Files Illustrator CS4

I truly hope this helps someone else out!
After much frustration, I have finally solved the problems I was having with:
    A.      Viewing  WMF/EMF files on a Windows Vista pc.
    B.      Manipulating WMF/EMF files in Illustrator CS4.
    Viewing WMF/EMF Files:
    Download IrfanView (Freeware)
During the install, associate WMF/EMF files with IrfanView.
Launch program, select FILE, Select Thumbnails and navigate to folder containing target files.
    Manipulate WMF/EMF files in Illustrator:
Select Options, Select Properties/Settings, Select Miscellaneous
    Under “Set external editors”
Click Browse, navigate to the Illustrator exe file and select it
    Click ok
    From the thumbnail viewer window
Right Click on the target image
Go down to “Open with external editor”
Select Illustrator from the fly out
Illustrator launches and the image is available for manipulation.
    Cheers

So the comuter is only for running a script in Illustrator nothing else except it happens in photoshop as well, speaking with forked tongue.
Let m make a suggestion, create a new user account log into that user account aand without loading fonts etc try an open a file in Illustrator or Photoshop.
    Leave the fonts as default.
I would say it is a question of a possible conflict or corruption with fonts or plug ins and or the font cache files.
Also the possibility that you are using the stat up disk as the scratch disk instead of another drive true a mca mini only has one drive but a fast external drive of RAID 0 might serve better.
And there may be some dirctories on yu drive that do not have read write privileges when they should so Repair the Permissions as well.

  • Reading emf files

I'm needing to read an emf file or inputstream into a buffered image and haven't found any library that can do this correctly. Does anyone have any suggestions of a library that can handle this format? I know Aspose can do it, but it's not an option for my project. The emf is an embedded object in a power point doc and I need to be able to read it into a buffered image or render image. Balik seems to work with wmf's but cannot find anything that will work with emf. I've tried creating a hack using the apache image loader by writing the object to a file, which opens in windows paint, but could not get the apache image loader to read it. Failed on the getImageInfo call of the preloader step. this code worked on gif and tif files so I don't believe its the code. Any help would be appreciated.

    Peter,
If you haven't changed the model, then the XMI instance documents will
    be compatible.

  • EMF file opens as blank

I am trying to open an emf file in Illustrator, but it just appears as a blank page.  I tried some emf files that I created a few years ago, and they open fine.  But the new ones that I made are not appearing.  What am I doing wrong?

    Hi Mike,
Thanks for your quick response!  Admittedly, I am not using Illustrator for it's full capacity, so I'm definitely a novice.  But, again, I'm just a little bit perplexed as to why some of the emf files appear with no problem, and the ones I'm working with now are not appearing.  Here is a bit more detail:
The emf files are created in MatLab (they are graphs for research).  I save them as an emf file from that program.  However, that program is relatively crude, so I need to make some adjustments to make them look better, which is what I have used Illustrator for in the past.  I can open these files with other programs (paint, photo viewer, etc), but when I try to open them with Illustrator, I just see a plain white box.  Again, when I open emf files that I made a few years ago (using the same techniques), there is no probelm -- the figure appears and I can edit it.
When I save the figures in another format (e.g., if I convert to a pdf), the picture appears, but some of the quality is lost.  The lines become a bit fuzzy and less defined.
I have not tried to insert into Word first, then open in Illustrator, so I will try that next.  What is the porper way to do this?  I know how to insert the image, but should I then just save as a .docx, then open that in Illustrator?  Let me know, and I'll give it a shot.

  • Raster image (psd) into Vector - huge file!

Quick question, I have an psd image (photo) that I converted in illustrator to a vector (via Live trace, then Expand, then Merge).  Problem is the file is HUGE now.  Am I missing a step here?  I thought a vector would convert it to a scalable, easy to work with file.
FYI - the original image is a movie admission ticket in greyscale - 9" x 7" at 300 dpi (in photoshop)
    Please help!
    Thank you ~ Chemol

First - let's not confuse file size with dimension.  Scalable vectors saved in native .ai extension and even .eps extension will be the same file size no matter what the dimension, because of the amount of artwork you have in your board.  More complex settings used in AI's trace feature will cause simple small rasters to become vector"zillas" in this case.  If your raster is flat artwork(simple shapes w/o shading, complex tones or multi-tone artwork)you shouldn't have a problem.  If your raster is like a photo from a camera or photo of anything really, Color 6/16, Photo Lo/Hi Fidelity are going to cause your vector's file size to skyrocket.  I would recommend tracing it by hand using the pen tool - that way you'd get only what you need out of the raster and everything else you can get rid of.
    Hope that helps.
I just got finished working on converting a raster bumper sticker into a vector logo that will be digitized and embroidered on a school uniform shirt - the complicated part was the logo was of a shield that used a dot patter fade from reflex blue to white, while having white flat shapes of school stuff in it...my file before editing the raster/vector all down to the "used logo" ended up being 5 mb in size...when I was done, the file was 1.3 mb in size - which is still big for a 1.5" patch logo going on a school uniform shirt, so I know your pain.  Some children's people...lol
