PDFs have strange, blurry streaks

When I try to save a pages document as a pdf (from the print menu--> save as pdf) they end up looking really, really strange. On my computer, everthing looks fine, but when I send them to a friend or open them on a pc to print, the text is warped and too blurry to read and there are big black streaks running across the page. I have never seen anything like it. I've been looking around but haven't been able to find any place this has been asked.
Any help would be much appreciated.
thanks,
charles

The answer does not give actionable information for the person who is asking.
Here is the answer: PostScript and Encapsulated PostScript do not support device-independent programmed transparency operators - at all.
PDF lower than version 1.4 (Acrobat 5) does not support device-independent programmed transparency operators - at all.
If you as author, or if your audience, see artifacts then your first step is to determine which version of PDF was used by the PDF creator and which version of PDF is supported by the PDF consumer (reader).
If the PDF creator wrote version 1.4 or higher and the PDF consumer only reads PDF 1.3 and lower, then your first step is to open the same PDF 1.4 in a PDF consumer that supports PDF 1.4 or higher.
This is not to say that there are no problems with device-independent transparency operators in software that writes PDF, but the first place to look for an answer to the problem of artifacts is in the PDF version supported by the PDF consumer.

These "streaks" appear to be area of too high frequency scanning; they can be cleared by scrolling up and/or down.

hello, maybe that's an issue with hardware acceleration - please try [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL|updating your graphics driver]], or in case this doesn't solve the issue or there is no new version available at the moment, disable hardware acceleration in the firefox ''menu [[Image:New Fx Menu]] > options > advanced > general''.

  • PSE7 on Win 8.1 runs, but on some tools have strange, linear pointers

PSE7 on Win 8.1 runs, but on some tools (like Crop, Zoom, Eye dropper - the other are normal, with usuall arrow) have strange linear pointers. Maybe the problem is HD screen, not Win 8.1? Any ideas, any help, please?
I changed my computer for a new one, with 1920x1080 HD screen. Some time ago I tried PSE 11 free trial, but I did not like it, but PSE 7 I love. Anything I can do to run it on HD screen, Win 8.1.
    Thanx

Right click on your desktop and select Screen Resolution.
Then on the next screen click on Make text and other items larger or smaller
In the next screen try a setting of Smaller-100% (default)
If that makes everything too small try setting a Custom Sizing Option and use 125% or 149%

I can't imagine any worse workflow than converting to JPEG to edit text, then back to PDF. Text in a PDF is a vector thing, smooth at all resolutions. And JPEG is made for photos. EVERY conversion to JPEG and back loses quality but how much loss there is will vary.
If you must go to an image format, try PNG.

  • Jpgs opened in Preview have strange distortions

Hi. I am trying to import some jpgs from a DVD into my iPhoto library (iPhoto 6 (6.0.6). I get the "Unreadable File" error message others have reported. When I open the images in Preview (Preview 3.0.9) the images have strange pixelated distortions. If I save them from Preview, I can import them into the iPhoto library, but the pixelations remain.
    Troubleshooting things I have tried:
    1. Booting in safe mode - opening another jpg (no problem). Restarting normally and trying to open image from DVD in Preview - same pixelation problem.
    2. Opening images from DVD on another computer. The DVD would not open at all on a Windows machine - just hung. Opened FINE on another mac (iMac, with same OS, iPhoto and Preview versions - but it had Photoshop, which I do not.)
So, it appears there is a combatibility problem? What do I do now?
I wanted to attach a screenshot of what the images look like when I open them, but am not sure how to do that....

Posted an example on a webpage:
    http://home.uchicago.edu/~jltaylor/imghelp/index2.html
Burning a new DVD might be a possibility, but a little tricky. Its a public computer, so depending on how long it would take to burn the images (there are 199 of them) it could be possible. But I wonder if I would need to save them in a different format or with a different naming scheme - there are some special characters in the titles - since I can open them normally on the other computer?
I even tried importing into iPhoto on the other machine directly from the DVD with no problem. My machine is unable to read them without saving them from Preview first.

  • Transfering Drawings From FreeHand to pdf- Lines are Blurry

I am working on a catalog. I've drawn up everything in freehand but when I pull them into my pdf they looked blurry. The drawings look fine in freehand, however. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

You could check your Acrobat Preferences > Smoothing. If the lines are still vectors you may want to uncheck smoothing for line art.
That said, I'm sure you're also concerned about how your clients view the catalog. You might want to use heavier lines, or an other method of section division such as color blocks, that will view nicely on other computers.

  • I have a faded streak down middle of page when copying, scanning, faxing only

When I copy or scan a document the copy or scanned page comes out with a faded streak verically down the middle of the page.  the faded area is approx 2 3/4 inches wide.  I can print from the computer fine, no streak appears on the printed copy.  This only happens in copy, scan and probably faxing.  I've done all troubleshooting for scanning, faxing and copying for this type of all in one printer.  Any suggestions.

  • Illustrator pdfs have missing elements

This file was created in Illustrator CS5 and a pdf was saved. Left viewed in preview  - right in Acrobat X. When other folks view this it is ok. I have deinstalled and reinstalled and still have the same results. I also tried rebuilding the document. Coping the art into a new document. Everything is vector too. This is really strange. Any suggestions?
I just was able to fix it in Illustrator by going to the apearance pallet and changing the opacity to knock out group. What is causing this problem?
I noticed this same problem in a proof I recieved from a vendor yesterday as well. I double checked it by opening in Illustrator - which always views fine, and preview.

I realize what preview is for I was just Illustrating a point, Nothing is hidden and nothing is overprinted and it most definitely is not on a non print layer. The fix I found was on the opacity that Illustrator is applying itself. Nothing has been done. I even redrew the red box, made a new layer put it on that. Had it in front of the other graphics and it also disappeared and nothing showed up but the dieline.

  • Strange screen streaks / smudges: disappear when I wipe, but then come back

My 13" macbook pro display has a strange glass issue. There are horizontal streaks across the screen that look like somebody wiped dirty water across the screen and let it dry. They can only be seen when there is light directly on the screen, or overhead light. If there is no direct light, it isn't visible from any angle.
The strange thing is that when I use a micro cloth to try to wipe them away, it looks like they disappear but then, within a few minutes, the streaks will reappear. I thought that it may be something on the other side of the glass, but then why would it look like they disappear? As I said, when I look at the screen from below or above under indirect light, the surface look 100% perfect -- it's just when there is direct light or overhead light that the ugliness is visible.
Any thoughts on what this could be? I know I need to take it in, but would like to understand what this is...
    Thanks!

I have this issue as well with my MacBook Pro. I'm going to do more testing but I had dirty water looking blotches across the screen. I wiped them off and it looked perfect with the cloth. This morning they're back. You can only see it when the light is right and the screen is dark. I was thinking that because my office is about 68 degrees that the laptop heats up and when I shut the lid it cools down and condensates. Just a thought its not humid in the room and I don't have any windows.

  • I Start a New am so frustrated with problems syncing photos on my iPad. I choose which files to sync but get deleted photos in my albums, my photos are in the wrong albums and the weirdest of all- I now have strange graphics and Facebook photos in albums!

I have spent several hours trying to find a solution to the following problems. After syncing my IPad with ITunes, I end up with photos that I previously deleted in my albums, duplicate photos, albums that have wrong pictures in them and weirdest of all, strange graphics and Facebook photos that are not even mine. Right now I hate this thing!
I have scanned the support forums, Googled it, deleted several photo caches, spent days editing my photo files, checked the specific folders I wanted to sync and it seems like it's not syncing, just adding the same photos and strange crap that it already had on it. Oh please help me!
    Thanks!

OK....I'm stumped.  The message you are seeing is typically there to protect someone from syncing with a different computer/iTunes account.  Is there any way anyone else has used your iPad and possibly connected it to their computer?

  • Can a pdf have problems when created with multiple PDF versions?

In our everyday workflow, we have PDFs created from different versions.  Our main files are created as PDF v1.5, but then we might import pages created from another software that is v1.3, then we might scan and add a page that is created as v1.6.  Has anyone noticed any issues with files created this way?  I am troubleshooting some problem files and wonder if this could be contributing.
    Thanks.

Could possibly be an issue, but it likely depends on the features used. The major problem would be going from later versions to prior versions in terms of the version you open everything in. If you are using the latest version for the editing, I would not see why there would be a problem. Earlier versions of Acrobat may have problems with PDFs saved in later versions, but that can typically be fixed with Reduce File Size or the PDF Optimizer.
