PDFs keep trying to open in ColorSync

Sorry if this has been posted before (I did search though!)
I download a lot of PDFs and usually when I double-click on them, they open in Preview. So far so good. But suddenly, they keep trying to open in ColorSync Utility (which I don't want).
I have tried doing "open with", Preview and "always open with" but it doesn't stick. I've also tried right-click (forgive the windowsism), "get info", open with, change all...but this doesn't stick either.
The next pdf I try to open goes into colorsync again and its really irritating.
Any advice?

Hi,
Many (most) Jabber servers including GoogleTalk and Facebook use SSL to login to the servers.
In Messages > Preferences > Accounts > Jabber account > Server settings
The default port for SSL logins is port 5223 (it changes automatically when you click SSL).
You cannot change this Pane unless logged out of the server.
Most servers will not accept a login on the non SSL (port 5222) although it would appear you are at least being asked.
If the Account Info tab says the Account is Enabled then untick this to Log out.
Then go back to the Server Setting tab and turn on SSL

I've just updated OS to 10.10.1 and Finder keeps trying to open and then closes every 2 seconds with the message Finder is not Available. If Safari is opened full window it immediately closes and will only work with window smaller than maximum.

Down loaded muse, but keeps trying to open old beta

I downloaded the muse program but my previous sites when I try to open them up and work on them it keeps trying to open them up in the old discontinued beta program, how do I fix this. I tried uninstalling but it can't find the correct path. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the clouds program and this still doesn't fix the problem. Please help.

ITunes 9 with WIndows 7 - keeps trying to open iTunes

I have recently installed ITunes on my 64-bit Windows 7 PC. I have several users set-up as my family use it as the main PC. My son has recently bought an iPOD Touch.
today, my son has logged on and is running iTunes but I am also logged on.
On my account - I have not tried to open iTunes and it is not in my Start menu but it is trying to launch and I keep getting an error message saying that "You can not open the application "ITunes" because another user has it open."
Why doesn't iTunes support multiple users anyway?
Why does it try and load without me asking it to and how do I stop it?

I have the exact same problem. I use a laptop with three user accounts. Two of the accounts have iTunes. However, to switch between users I MUST completely logout of one account else iTunes opens on the other account and I get the Windows failure sound (ding) every 2 minutes from the other account as iTunes tries to unsuccessfully open in that account.
This is really annoying and I have decided to stop buying iTunes songs until fixed because Windows Media Player doesn't do that. Unfortunately, I have invested a few bucks in some iTunes music that I guess will stay in storage until this is fixed.

Text Edit Character Pallette keeps trying to open

Yesterday I was using Text Edit and I clicked on Edit > Special Characters.
The Special Characters dialog window tried to open but failed. Ever since, the window continuosly attempts to launch at intemitent intervels.
Even after quitting Text Edit and re-starting my computer, the window keeps attempting to launch, blocking whatever I'm doing for a moment each time.
Can anyome offer any advice?
Here's my theories which may be wrong -
Theory 1: The Special Character window is searching vainly for an Apple font that I've turned off

I tried your suggestions and they worked! First I dug into "/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/com.apple.CharPaletteServer.plist". I dragged it onto the desktop. Almost immediately, the Character Palette appeared, including characters. I clicked on it's options a couple of times and then my computer froze.
Then I restarted the computer, holding down the "Shift" key. The Special Character Panel stopped trying to pop up.
I did not do anything about fonts, but I think you are also right about that. At the time that the problem started, I had copied some data out of craigslist and I forgot to hold Command/Option/Shift when I pasted it into TextEdit.
I started getting warning messages about two fonts being loaded at the same time. An old Arial font from a graphic design job I did two years ago seemed to be loading.
I have deleted that font from Extensis Suitcase and Font Book as far as I can tell, and I have even deleted the font itself from my client folder, but it keeps coming back from the dead when I forget small stuff like holding Command/Option/Shift. I will have to mosey to the font forum to try to figure it out.

Adobe ideas not syncing keeps trying to open illustrator CC 2014

Hi I have got adobe ideas and it has been working fine. I bought a pressure sensitive stylus so have been using it again but I cannot for the life of me sync. I have read and re read all the info on these forums and there is no answer, I have uninstalled, signed in signed out etc but nothing has worked. One this that is strange it Illustrator CC 2014 is trying to open, I never knew I had this as I am using Illustrator CC. When I try and sync the CC 2014 trys to open and then quits with an error message saying reopen, ignore or report. I have looked in my CC on my mac and I can see CC2014 and it says up to date. Very annoying and frustrating I pay for the service and I have just bought an expensive stylus and now I can't get any files to upload in CC. I have updated a plug in in my CC which was for touch apps. Please help

Hi I just thought I would post on here what I have been doing since last night and all this morning!
I have solved the problem and this is how I did it;
I checked to see if Creative Cloud was working while syncing with Adobe Sketch app which I downloaded. It did work so I knew this was not the problem but ti took a bit of the for the file to appear in Creative Cloud folder.
Then I thought there must be a problem with Illustrator because I had Illustrator CC (2014) showing in my CC and not my desk top. Every time I tried to send anything to Illustrator CC (2014) from Adobe ideas, it kept trying to open and then crash. I found a good solution by following the instructions of the following help website from Adobe CC desktop lists applications as "Up to Date" when not installed I was having this problem and found the uninstaller of illustrator CC (2014) on my mac and uninstalled it. I also got rid of a file they tell you to get rid of. I signed out of CC and then signed back in and I saw Illustrator CC (2104) was ready to install again. I did this and waited ages as you do and I have just gone into Adobe ideas, sent a file to Illustrator and to my surprised has opened Illustrator CC (2104) without crashing and there is my file. Firefox PDF links - Trying to Open in Pages

Hi all,
I have a bit of a hiccup in that every time I attempt to click on a PDF link in Firefox 3.6.3 to open the file in Preview, the system attempts to open it with pages and I receive the following error message:
The document “PhotoVideo_Solicitation1449-1.pdf” couldn’t be opened. In a Pages Error window. The file automatically downloads and I can open it fine from there, but I'd like to be able to open it in Preview directly. I've gone into the OS settings to make sure Preview is default for PDF (it is). I've also made sure that PDF's in Firefox Preferences are set to open in Preview (it is).
Thanks if anyone can offer advice, solutions etc. This brings me back to my Windows days, of which I NEVER want to return!!!

Sounds like your "helper applications" have got muddled.
In Firefox:
+Menu > Firefox > Preferences > Content > File Types > Configure how Firefox handles certain types of files > Manage… > PDF > Open With > Change Action… > Open them with this application: > Browse to Preview in your Applications folder > OK+

Firefox keeps trying to open a php via Opera but...

I have Firefox 3.6.11 on my Macbook using OSX 10.5.8 Leopard. I try to open a php file and it tries to open via Opera (?). I would like to use Preview or Quicktime as the default but it won't let me change and save in preferences. Ugh

Also make sure that you do not have the home page set to a site that starts a download automatically.

Not able to open Acrobat 9 PDF when trying to open the pdf inside 4 sublevels of windows

We are using
mAVDoc = new Acrobat.AcroAVDocClass();
mAVDoc.OpenInWindowEx(mPath, this.Handle.ToInt32(), 1, 1, 0, 1, 2, 0, 0, 0);
to open the pdf. This working fine when we try to open in a windows form but it is failing when we try to open in inside 4 subsections of windows.
Also note that this was working fine with Adobe 7. Can you please help me with this

Why does adobe reader keep trying to open my XPI files?

Recently when trying to download a .xpi file I accidentally clicked on adobe reader instead of the program I wanted to use to open it, and now it repeatedly tries to use adobe reader to open it no matter what I do, I've looked everywhere and I can't change this. Could you please inform me on how to change what I use to open a file?

You can install such an locally saved extension in Firefox by dragging the file in a Firefox tab or use "Firefox/File > Open File" to install the extension.
There is usually no need to open an xpi file directly.

Ical alarm keeps trying to open file from old location

I have an iCal alarm to open an accounts file each day.
I moved the file to another folder,
and selected the new location iniCal.
It always gives me this:
Could not open file because 'Old/Path/to/File' could not be found.
When I look at the alarm section in the iCal event, there is a list of files.
When I choose the file (with the same file name) in the NEW folder, this list of files doesnt seem to update.
Is there of forcing iCal to open my new file path?
or a way of taking the OLD file out of this list?

I just found how to removed the old files from my list
in the terminal I type:
open library/preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist
and then delete the entries under PersistentMenu
Would still love to hear a more user friendly way to do this.
And a way to just get iCal to open the new file path, or how best to report this bug to apple

Bridge keeps trying to open photoshop cs4 and not cc2014

I uninstalled my old Photoshop CS4 after CC 2014 was installed and bridge keeps looking for it. I cannot find the setting in ACR or Bridge to tell it where the CC 2014 executable is, instead. Am on a Windows 7 PC.

It could also be your file associations in bridge cc are set to photoshop cs2.

When someone sends me a word/excel doc via email attachment it try's to open with it. I want it to open how it used to but cant find a setting can anyone help please?
