PDFs not being visable

I have a pc in the office that is still operating on Windows XP. The computer cannot pull up PDFs at all. It just shows up as a blank screen. We have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest software on this computer several times, but this does not fix the problem.
Any suggestions?

Argh - once again, I find my solution right after posting this. Left out one modification to the SWIG script, now it runs in 29 seconds vs C 16 seconds, I can live with that.

HT204365 PDF not being synched devices

Unfortunately updating the Distiller settings did not help. PDFs are still printing to .tmp files periodically. It isn't just from Word either; I've also noticed that it happens with PDFs as well. For example, when viewing a 50+ page PDF document online I chose to print one of the pages from the middle as an Adobe PDF, and it notified me that my .tmp file was created.
By the way, I haven't been changing printer properties from within an application; I change them from the Devices and Printers menu.
I've been able to locate where the .tmp files are being sent:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp
This is frustrating. It seems to be happening despite all settings to the contrary. I just can't figure it out. I'm reluctant to delete the printer and try to re-add it, because I don't have administrator priveleges on this computer (it's my work computer). I wish I could give you guys more information.

PDF Not Being Created

When I create a PDF (from Indesign), it asks me for a filename goes through the creation process and quite often creates nothing. In these cases, if the file already exists (from last creation) it will delete it too. Sometimes it takes half a dozen attempts before the PDF will be created.
Not every time though. 80% of the time it will create the PDF with no problem. Other times, many attempts are required. InDesign files are on the network, but it doesn't seem to make a difference whether I create the PDF on the network or on my desktop.
Anyone have a clue why this is happening?

If the booklet finish size is to be 8.5" x 11" then the document size should be 11" x 17" plus whatever bleed you may have. I prefer 1/8" for bleed on all for sides increasing the document by 1/4" total = 11.25" x 17.25". I then add 1/16" crop marks if necessary for the bleed. Now the page layout can be tricky if it is an 8 page booklet then it would be as follows. on the right hand page put page 1 and on the left hand page put page 8. Always in this instance the booklet page numbers will = 9 or one more than the total page count. On the next spread page 2 will go on the left and page 7 will go on the right. Rinse and repeat til allpages are copied over. Now export to pdf . Print the document to the printer choosing short edge binding.

URLs are not being recognized inside PDF

URL links inside a PDF that I've created in InDesign CS5 are not being recognized.
I have email and website URLs embedded inside a PDF that was created in InDesign. These links are being recognized and I can click on them in Chrome, Opera, IE or Safari on the Mac. Eg, hovering over the mailto or http URLs the cursor turns to a hand and the links are clickable. Firefox is the only browser that does not recognize ANY links in the PDF. The cursor doesn't change to a hand instead it just remains as the standard text insertion cursor. The links are not clickable.

Current Firefox versions have enabled a built-in PDF Viewer that doesn't have all features that other PDF readers like the Adobe Reader have or may not function properly otherwise.
You can change the action for Portable Document Format (PDF) from Preview in Firefox to use another application like the Adobe Reader or set to Always Ask in "Firefox > Options/Preferences > Applications".
You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable the build-in PDF viewer.

You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu if you want to display PDF documents in Firefox with another application (i.e. not the built-in PDF Viewer).

PDF Export Options not being Shown

Need to export to pdf again. Last export was for only 6 pages, as a test. Now want to export the entire document. However, only 6 pages are created in the export. No options to revise the pages, are presented.
The iD app is acting strangely, in that many other options are not being shown. Also, on loading a document, there are notes about hyphenation and missing LILO. Beginning to believe I need to reinstall.
Pleae advise best course of action at this point.

Adobe reader Form PDF renderered in Internet Explorer not being read by JAWS

I'm checking the accessibility of my web application in case of XFA forms generated from Lifecycle Server ES. The standalone version of the PDF forms gets easily read by JAWS but when the same PDF is embedded in a web application JAWS does not read at at all. A sample which is not being in a web application is

If you want to open the PDF in the browser you have to explicitely set the content type to "application/pdf", if you use "application/octet-stream" you'll always get the download box and when you choose to open from this box the reader will be used because the reader is configured to open PDF documents in the windows filetypes settings.

We were unable to see the REVENUE column values in the report. We were able to see the values while creating layout, but unable to see the values in report. Report is not having any filters or parameters. This is build on two tables. Revenue in one table and details in another table.

Just noticed that, able to see column values in HTML, pdf views but unable to see in interactive view.
While creating the layout checked in Interactive view, at that time able to get column values, but in the report column values are not being displayed in interactive view.
But in HTML, list option , Repeating Section is not working, so have to see in interactive view only.
I can say, in Interactive vew Aggregate functions are not working properly. We need tro use Repeating Section and List option in report. so we need interactive view only.

The reason you're getting the repeat is because your site name is wilgenroos.nl and the first page of your site is wilgenroos.
The standard URL for domain names that are forwarded with the CNAME method is:
http://www.domain_name.com/site_name/page_name.html.
You can change the site and page names in iWeb to give you something more informative about the site and page.
If you're publishing to a 3rd party server and want to get rid of the site name in the url and only have
http://www.domian_name.com/page_name.html
do the following:
publish the site to a folder on your hard drive (already done)
use Cyberduck to upload just the contents of your site folder to the root folder of your account on the server.
You should delete the old site folder and files that are currently there beforehand.

PDF not displaying properly in Acrotbat

I'm having an issue with a document I have created in Photoshop not displaying properly when opened in Acrobat. It is a brochure for my work, that I have worked on and printed many times. When I open it in Acrobat after creating the PDF, gaps appear and other elements are shifted out of place. When viewing it in Photoshop, those gaps are not there, even when I zoom in very close. When we open the file on other computers with Acrobat, the gaps are still there. To test the PDF further, I downloaded some free PDF viewers off the net and the document looks the way it was created, the way it should be. I don't know how to fix it and certainly don't want the gaps appearing when it goes to print. Any ideas on how to fix this? I've never previously had this problem. Thank you in advance for your help.

Without access to the files it's impossible for us to help. Acrobat will be displaying the PDF "correctly", but why the page contents are shifted is anyone's guess.
When you save as "Photoshop PDF" and choose the "Preserve Photoshop Editing Capabilities" option, it embeds a copy of the PSD file into the PDF and will open that whenever you try to open the PDF in Photoshop, which is why you don't get the import dialog. Photoshop never even reads the PDF page contents. Turn off that option, save to PDF again, and then open it in Photoshop - you'll see the true PDF page being imported as a graphic, and it'll match what Acrobat is displaying.

PDFs not updating in CS6

Hello-
We recently upgraded from CS4 to CS6. Several artists since then have informed me that their PDFs are not being updated if they make a change and then overwrite the existing PDF. Basically, we make changes to an ad in ID (it happened in Quark 8 before we switched to ID as well, however), and then export a PDF as a proof. If a change comes in, that change is made to the ID file, and then re-exported as a PDF. We keep only the most recent copy of the proof, so the new PDF proof is supposed to overwrite the existing one. Instead, the PDF reflects the original ad rather than the changes.
I wasn't sure where to post this. Again, it has only happened since we upgraded to CS6, and it doesn't seem to be dependent upon the layout program. I've noticed the problem when opening the file in Acrobat, but it of course shows the same issue if it is shown in preview, or just with a thumbnail view. I haven't noticed it on my machine, which is running Mountain Lion (though I admittedly don't make many PDFs myself), but I have seen it on machines running Snow Leopard and Lion.

Now that Ithink about it some more there's another major change from CS4 to CS6 that could be tripping you up. PDF export became a background task in CS5 so you no longer need to wait for it to complete before you can return to work. However, that means there's a period of time during which the old PDF is still there, or in which a 0 byte placeholder file is created, and if you move too fast that might acount for the dicrepancy. Trying to access the file before completion also has negative consequnces, I think.
You can see the progress of the export, sort of, by looking at the little icon that appears up in the menu bar (it's a set of samll horizontal lines that scroll), or you can open the background tasks panel and get a real progress bar, but the easiest way to know if your file was successfully exported is to check the box in the export dialog to open it when it's done.

Crystal Reports Excel Export Issue - page footer not being displayed

We recently converted all Crystal Reports from Visual Studio 2003 to Visual Studio 2005 sp1, .NET 2.0, Crystal Reports for .NET. I have the latest merge modules from business objects. All reports & footers worked fine in VS2003 ... but now when I export to PortableDocumentFormat (PDF) or WordForWindows (DOC) the page footers appear correctly. But, when I export to Excel (XLS) like the code below, the page footers do not appear. We need to place a disclaimer at the bottom of every page of an exported excel document. I checked the print preview, and I tested printing the document ... the the footer is not being utilized properly by the Crystal Reports export.

fyi - if i hadn't mentioned it, problem occurs in all our environments (developer workstation, development server, testing server, production server, etc.)
on my development workstation i found the file 3 times

Mail with image and PDF not displaying correctly on Outlook

OS X Mountain Lion, Mail 6.1 (everything up to date)
Emails with mixed image and PDF attachments send from my MacBoox Pro are not being displayed correctly when received on Outlook. It is not an Outlook problem.
Multiple inline images - ok
I compose an email, rich text format, insert severnal inline images, send to colleage on Windows 7 using Outlook, all received ok. He sees the message with inline images.
Multiple inline images and PDF - not ok
I compose a similar email with multiple inline images, but attach a PDF. This time all of the attachments (images and PDF) appear at the end of the message when viewed in Outlook.
Gmail browser comparison
I repeat the above from a Gmail account via Safari and I can make an email with inline images and PDF attachments and it works.
Any thoughts, tips, bug reports, etc appreciated.

My problem was solved by installing Attachment Tamer.
It could also have been solved by emailing from Gmail directly.
The guys I work with use Outlook and were suprised to see this behaviour.
It's only basic OS X email that has a problem.
I wholeheartedly agree that the standard for emails are not conducive for rich layout control.
But - when my email just has images I had no problems. Take for example the email notifications we're getting from this thread - there are images and layout etc and work fine.
The key feature from Attachment Tamer hints at the problem (and its solution):
send images embedded in HTML layout and safely mix embedded images with other attachments;
