PDFs Not Opening in IE 10

Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 with IE 10
Reader 11.0.05
Opening local PDFs works fine.  Browsing to a web PDF (http or ftp) and opening it works fine.  Accessing an FTP site in Windows Explorer and double-clicking a PDF does not work.  When double-clicking the PDF in Windows Explorer, it will launch IE and reference a copy of the PDF from Temporary Internet Files.  IE opens, the Reader plug-in appears to load (the gray background appears), but the file never opens.  Browsing to the temporary internet files to view the file referenced shows a PDF with a size of 0 KB.  All of this works perfectly in IE 9, but is broken in IE 10.  Has anyone else seen this before and does anyone know of a fix?

The experiences where I've seen this so far are on 32-bit machines.  On our 64-bit machines, we run 32-bit IE by default.

  • Why will PDF not open from email?

    I recently modified my Adobe Reader 9.1 (with instructions from the bank) to be able to electronically sign documents.
    Since then I can not open any PDF documents from email.  I went back and reversed the changes I made. I uninstalled Adobe and reinstalled it. No luck.
    I have to save the documents and open them from Windows Explorer.
    Any Ideas?

    A fast workaround for PDF problem (See my original post)
    In Firefox:
    Open Tools > Options > Under Main tab click Save files to > click Browse
    Scroll up or down to find where you want it to go (I put mine under Documents because it's the easiest to find).
    Click New folder and label it something you will quickly recognize.
    Now when you click on a PDF attachment it will automatically be sent to that file and you can double click or open
    it in Adobe Reader
               ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    (Note) If I use Internet Explorer (I have not used IE in years) I can open PDF's from Hotmail with out a problem.
    I like Firefox better so I will continue to use the quick workaround until somebody finds a fix.
    If you use IE, here are the instructions for saving PDF files.
    Click
    to open Windows Mail.
    Open a message that contains an attachment by double-clicking it
    in the message list.
    In the message window, click the File menu,
    and then click Save Attachments.
    Select the folder where you want to save the attachments.
    By default,
    Windows Mail saves attachments in your
    Documents folder. If you want to save the attachments to a different folder,
    click Browse, and then select a folder.
    Select the attachments that you want to save, and then click Save.
  • Specific PDF not opening in Adobe Reader on Lumia ...
    I get an error message on a Lumia 625 when trying to open a downloaded pdf (88Mb) in Adobe Reader Vers 10.4.3.
    I have more than 3Gb free space. The file seems to be successfully downloaded & joins the list of all PDF documents in the Adobe Reader app. All other PDFs DO open OK. Just not this one.
    The message reads “The document path is not valid” & phone screen shows “Loading...” but fails to actually open anything
    What does this mean & how do I fix it? Thankyou in advance...
    Thankyou. The Central Question over this Lumia 625 inability to open a specific pdf (by Lonely Planet) remains:-I could uninstall this Adobe Reader app but think this is not the problem as this app does indeed open all other pdf's on my phone successfully, e.g. the Lonely Planet Invoice!
    On the other hand, this particular downloaded & installed pdf can be read on my home PC, my Macbook & my IpodTouch so I can't attribute fault to the filename.
    The basic Troubleshoot step of a "soft reset"  is NOT described in the Lumia 625 User Guide & I'm pessimistic this arbitrary step will bear fruit. I have come to the conclusion that no matter what I do, this Lumia model using the MIcrosoft OS has a system flaw that is unable to read the file (a file that other devices & another OS can read) & I will not waste time with ad hoc actions such as resets as this is not a hobby for me.
    The pdf in question (88Mb, Lumia free space is >3Gb)  is a travel guide I'd like to use on my next trip & this Lumia 625 is proving not worthy of coming with me. I am disappointed at the lack of "Customer Support" shown by the Nokia Company & I hope this is relayed as some "friendly feedback". Thank you for your own assistance, though.
    I invite correction if this assessment is mistaken.
  • PDF not opening at 100%
    Hi,
    I've created a multi-page PDF with bookmarks and hyperlinks.  The initial view settings are set at 100% magnification.  I've also secured this document so that it can't be saved, printed, copied, etc.  It is residing on a secure website.  So far, I have three users who claim that it's not opening at 100% (there are over 300 users).  I've double and triple checked the properties and cannot find any difference between this document and other documents created the same way that DO open at 100% magnification.
    Any suggestions?  Could it be a Reader version issue (the users are not acrobat users)?
    I'd appreciate any and all suggestions.
    Thank you!
    Could be that their personal settings aren't set a "default". They can set their preferences for PDF's to open at whatever they want.
    Basically worthless settings if they are using a third party PDF viewer (I know you didn't ask, just saying...)
  • PDF not opening in IE 10 when linked from robohelp 8
    It will be really great if you could help me with my query. I am using Robohelp 8. I have created a topic page and linked a pdf file to it as a bagge file so that when one clicks the topic in the TOC, the pdf file opens. When I generate the output, the pdf is opening in IE 8, 9. However, the pdf is not opening in IE 10. Please suggest a solution.
    Sounds like a security setting, check if it’s working with FireFox or Chrome
  • PDF not opening for ESS PZ11 Pay Stubs in ECC 5.0
    We are in the process of converting from 4.6C to ECC 5.0.  We use a few of the ESS applications including heavily-customized PZ11 to let our employees view their pay stubs.  In ECC 5.0, the first time the Acrobat pay stub appears, it displays a very small, collapsed Acrobat with no trace of the pay stub showing.  If you click on the Acrobat Print icon, it will print your pay stub.  So Acrobat is not empty but it is collapsed.
    If you click on one of the lines of the table view above the acrobat portion of the window listing pay periods, then the corresponding pay stub for that period appears full-blown in Acrobat.
    When I do View Source for 4.6C and 5.0, the code is totally different, so I cannot pinpoint where the problem lies.  Has anyone run into this problem, or have you encounted this collapsed Acrobat in any SAP web application?
    Hi Janice,
    Check the Internet settings for Adobe in Preferences also some versions of Adobe are known to cause problems like not opening the PDFs etc.
  • Pdf not opening with Safari
    Safari will not open pdf files.  I have 8.1.3 and this is still an issue on my phone and tablet.  It will not allow to open Safari files in iBooks either.  This is a problem on my phone, tablet, and friends and families tablets, so I know this must be a common problem.  Is there a solution?
    I have no problem opening PDFs in Safari or iBooks on my iPad 2 iOS 8.1.3.  What exactly happens when you load a PDF page in Safari?  Perhaps you could post a link to the page you're trying to open?
    can you open this page:
  • Pdfs not opening in my browser
    After reviewing other questions, the added information here is that the pdfs do open or open incorrectly in my browser.
    Opening some pdfs unsuccessfully.  Get message "An error occurred while rendering the page."   Under more info, says pdf malformed, which is not true.  Or if it opens, it does not print like it should.
    I am using mac OS X 10.7.4, Adobe 10.1.3, Firefox 12.0, Brother MFC-495CW.  Any help will be appreciated.
    Right click on the PDF in your browser and select Save Link As to download the PDF file locally. Then,
    1.       In your web browser, choose File > Open (or Open File).
    2.       (Windows only) From the Files Of Type menu, choose All Files.
    3.       Click Browse.
    4.       Select the PDF you have saved previously, and then click Open to open the PDF. If Acrobat or Adobe Reader displays the file but doesn't display it on the web, the web server has a problem serving the PDF file. Contact the webmaster of the site from which you downloaded the PDF file.
  • PDFs Not Openning in Search Results?
    RH 8 on Windows XP Professional, publishing project to an Apache server
    We just upgraded to RH 8, and I love that PDF documents show up in the search results now.  However, if I click on a PDF in the results, I get a message saying that it's not found.
    I have a baggage file for all of the PDFs that I'm referring to, and the PDFs do open when linked from other pages or if entering their URLs in the address bar.  All I can think of is normally when I link to PDFs, I open them in a new window. Whereas, this search function is trying to open them in the main project window.  I don't think this should make a difference, but I thought I would mention it just in case.
    Please let me know if you have any suggestions for fixing this.
    Hi Betsy
    Sorry, no bright suggestions for fixing it or working around it. At least not yet.
    So this begs the question of why am I posting, huh?
    Well, it's to encourage you to consider reporting this to Adobe as a potential bug!
  • I want Safari to download PDFs, not open them in the browser
    The subject line pretty much sums it up Whenever I try to download a PDF it opens it up in Safari instead.
    If I open Safari > Preferences > General I can see that the box for "+Open 'safe' files after downloading+" is checked. It also says "Save Downloaded Files to" - and "Downloads" is selected.
    Is there anything that I'm missing? In Firefox if I click on a link for a PDF file then it opens straight away. I've searched the archives on this forum and don't seem to be coming up with anything that works for me.
    Thanks for your help!
    Thanks
    Is there a way to have this set as the default? My brain is to weary to remember to do this every time
  • Pdf not opening with _blank in Safari Mac, opens fine in Firefox, IE7
    We have pdf's ('secured' using Acrobat Pro, on a password protected site) that open fine, using _blank, in IE7 Win and also download fine with Firefox - but will only give a blank page in Safari Mac (generally latest versions of the browsers).  We have tried now on two Macs and one PC (each in a different location, not that that matters).
    Would most appreciate your insights.  We need to get this up.  (Have searched the forums extensively, not found discussion of this.)
    Much thanks,
    Safari 4, has a pdf viewer built-in, and this may cause a conflict with your code (or any old pdf viewers you have installed). You could try searching the apple developers web site for more info at -
  • PDF not opening in Adobe Reader using openWithDefaultApplication
    Hello all,
    I'm having a huge problem.
    I've developed an application that opens pdf files from the desktop using openWithDefaultApplication().
    It works great on my development PC which has Acrobat Pro.
    The files open in Acrobat Pro flawlessly.
    It DOES NOT work on other PCs that only have Adobe Reader.
    Someone please help!!
    Does anyone know why my application won't open pdf files using Adobe Reader?
    All tested PCs are running Windows 7 and Air 4.0.
    I've tried with both Adobe Reader X and XI.
    Thank you in advance,
    Mr12.
    Update:
    My stupidity.  Changed a path and still had the old folder on development computers so all appeared fine.  That was the issue.
