PDFs not updating in CS6

We recently upgraded from CS4 to CS6. Several artists since then have informed me that their PDFs are not being updated if they make a change and then overwrite the existing PDF. Basically, we make changes to an ad in ID (it happened in Quark 8 before we switched to ID as well, however), and then export a PDF as a proof. If a change comes in, that change is made to the ID file, and then re-exported as a PDF. We keep only the most recent copy of the proof, so the new PDF proof is supposed to overwrite the existing one. Instead, the PDF reflects the original ad rather than the changes.
I wasn't sure where to post this. Again, it has only happened since we upgraded to CS6, and it doesn't seem to be dependent upon the layout program. I've noticed the problem when opening the file in Acrobat, but it of course shows the same issue if it is shown in preview, or just with a thumbnail view. I haven't noticed it on my machine, which is running Mountain Lion (though I admittedly don't make many PDFs myself), but I have seen it on machines running Snow Leopard and Lion.

Now that Ithink about it some more there's another major change from CS4 to CS6 that could be tripping you up. PDF export became a background task in CS5 so you no longer need to wait for it to complete before you can return to work. However, that means there's a period of time during which the old PDF is still there, or in which a 0 byte placeholder file is created, and if you move too fast that might acount for the dicrepancy. Trying to access the file before completion also has negative consequnces, I think.
You can see the progress of the export, sort of, by looking at the little icon that appears up in the menu bar (it's a set of samll horizontal lines that scroll), or you can open the background tasks panel and get a real progress bar, but the easiest way to know if your file was successfully exported is to check the box in the export dialog to open it when it's done.

ISSUE: Seems to have arisen right after I upgraded my Mac OS from Tiger to Mountain Lion. Not sure if there's a connection, however. I just did the latest update for CS6, so don't know if the prior version of InDesign led to the problem either (it was CS6 but I hadn't done an update for awhile).
Issue: I created an InDesign page and then generated a press quality PDF for a commercial printer, who put it thru a RIP and then printed it. My submitted PDF looked just fine, no issues that I could see. However, on two occasions the pages printed with things missing…..in one case a header at the top and part (not all) of a block of text in the other. On the second occasion, two bits of text within two separate text blocks were missing. This NEVER occurred before, ever. BUT….this has happened since upgrading to Mountain Lion OS and before updating CS6 to the 8.0.2 version I now have.
My printer said "In Design sometimes doesn't distill a PDF correctly", although this doesn't make sense as I've never had this happen before. The fonts were fine, not protected, everything was present, all colors were fine, it was just sporadic missing text. I've looked at everything and can't find any reason for this.
Has anyone got ideas about this?

Can we assume that you are exporting PDF, not somehow creating PDF via distillation of PostScript? PDF via distillation of PostScript is not reliable.
And exactly what PDF joboption preset did you use when you exported PDF?
Quite frankly, I somehow suspect that neither you, the MacOS version, the InDesign version, nor the PDF file itself are the problem.
The fact that your printer is mumbling about “In Design (sic) sometimes doesn't distill a PDF correctly” leads me to believe that your printer may be the problem. Quite often, printers muck around with perfectly fine PDF files, opening them in (gasp!) Adobe Illustrator “just to check things out and to ‘fix things’.” The problem is that usually there really isn't anything to fix and that Adobe Illustrator is not, repeat not, repeat yet again not a PDF file editor. The only PDF files that Adobe Illustrator can safely open and edit are PDF files saved from Adobe Illustrator if and only if the “save editability” option is selected when such a PDF file is saved. Otherwise, it is very possible that text and other PDF objects may be lost or otherwise modified, colors changed, etc. The damage occurs when the PDF file is opened in Illustrator and becomes permanent when such a file is saved, even if nothing is explicitly done to the file by the user!
Alternatively, your printer may have a wonky PDF workflow system with very out-of-date components or a very, very out-of-date RIP/DFE.
Generally speaking, if you can open the PDF file in Acrobat or Adobe Reader and print successfully to a local print device, you should have no problems of the type you describe.

I have a suspicion you're working with a scanned document that has had OCR run to recognize the text. The recognized text may be stored on an invisible layer above the image of the text, and that is what you're toucing up. It's invisible, so you don't see it, but retains the changes, so exporting produces the new edits.
When you run OCR to recognize scanned text,, try using the ClearScan option, instead of Searchable Text. See this help page on Acrobat (this is for version X, but still applies):

Acrobat v9.4.6 Update does not update Firefox v3.6 Adobe PDF Plug-In

I have Acrobat Pro v9.4.6.252 and I havd used the Repair Acrobat Installation option but I notice that Firefox v3.6.22 and now Firefox v3.6.23 is still using Adobe Acrobat PDF Plug-In v9.4.5.236. Should the repair Acrobat installation of Acrobat Pro not update the Firefox Plug-Ins as well?
Just curious if anyone else noticed this as well.

Date not updated in PDF

Hi,
I am using AdobeInteractiveForm in Web Dynpro for Java. Method used is updateDataInPDF.
Scenario is like this : When user clicks on one button in Web Dynpro view, some of the fields in PDF document displayed in view should be updated and email should be sent to the user with PDF as attachment.
Problem: Email is getting sent to the user, but fields are not updated in the PDF document sent as attachment.
Page is refreshed only after processing is done (i.e, email is sent) and then all the fields are updated in PDF document displayed on view.
Can I refresh PDF programmatically, so that all the data in context nodes is updated in PDF (binary file) , and email sent to user contains updated fields?

Calculations not updating in fillable PDF

I have a fillable PDF with columns of numbers requiring totals. The sum function works but if I then change one of the numbers in the column, the total does not update unless I also change another field (for example, a description field or some other field that seems to refresh the calculation). Is this a bug and is there any way to force a refresh to avoid having to manually prompt the form to update the sum?

OK. I see the option now, but it lists all of the calculations in the entire form. My problem is that once all of the form data is entered and then the user changes a value, the sum is not updated automatically. Hope I'm explaining this properly..

Vertical slider position not updated while displaying .pdfs with Adobe Reader X

When a .pdf file is opened inside Firefox 4 (beta/RC1), the vertical slider position does not update while scrolling through the document until the mouse cursor is moved to the slider bar (then the slider immediately jumps to the right place).
I am using Adobe Reader X.

However, if the last slash is removed or encoded as %2f (which should not be necessary, as it appears in the query portion of the URL), there is no problem.

Iweb not updating pdf links

I am using iWeb 3.0.2 and have made a site with many pages and links. Many of the links are to pdf pages. I have recently changed many of the pdf files - but kept the names the same. After publishing the updated site the pdf links still open the old versions of the pdf files. Other links just don't work at all - as if they are not links.
I have tested the site in Safari - after emptying the cache and Firefox.
Any ideas? Help is needed soon. This site is for my department and it is supposed to go on line before the holidays.

How did you add the links to the pdf files to the page? Did you use the Inspector/Link/Hyperlink pane and use the link to file option? If so I've found that that often does not update as you're experiencing.
I suggest you do the following:
1 - Create a folder titled pdfs and put it in your iDisk/Web/Sites folder.
2 - place your pdf files in that folder.
3 - link to the files as An External Page

Now when you want to make a change to a pdf file just upload the new file to the pdfs folder on your iDisk replacing the old file. There is no change required to the web page using iWeb.

I have just purchased the new Canon 7D II. I am using CS6 and Lightroom 5.0, neither of which can open the RAW files although I see from the list of supported cameras that the 7D II is covered. I have updated both CS6 and LR so that is not the problem.

It has been indicated that both of those cameras will be supported in the final release of Camera Raw 8.7. But there is no announced release date. There never is. I assume it will be before December 31. But that is only my guess based on the fact that the release candidate expires then.

CC programs not downloading with complimentary subscription. And CS6 applications not updating at all. Why is this?

I have a complimentary subscription to CC and run CS6 Master Collection. The CC apps will not download, and the CS6 apps will not update. I followed the online instructions, checked for bugs and spoke to support on the weekend - who could not help. They suggested speaking directly to Adobe on a weekday. This must be an ongoing issue. Any solutions much appreciated.

Photoshop CS6 does not update

I have just spent 5 days getting Photoshop CC to install properly on my computer (Win7Pro-64-bit) and now the Photoshop CS6 update fails to install. I have uninstalled CS6 and the reinstall fails.

Yes, I did get the U44M1P7 error and I had already followed your link to no avail. Trying to install the updates by first downloading them produced a message that that update did not apply to my version of CS6, even though I downloaded the Win (not Mac) version). Uninstalling CS6 and attempting a reinstall via Adobe CC produced the same failed install error, U44M1P7, hence my initial post.
What I find strange is that when I first installed Adobe CC, it let me install CS6, which came as CS6 Extended. I also am licensed wit ha serial numbered CS6 which is not the extended version. I have since been able to uninstall, reinstall and update my serial numbered CS6, but CS6 no longer shows in Adobe CC Apps tab--only Photoshop CC shows now.
I don't understand what is happening here. Should I have a copy of CS6 Extended and should it be visible as part of my Photoshop CC purchase or not? If not where did the CS6 Extended come from in the first place? I believe it was the CS6 Extended that was showing in Adobe CC that did not update and gave the U44M1P7.

Date modified not updating & InDesign not PDF not appearing

Something is definitely off with my Yosemite finder. Two big issues:
Files are not updating the date modified time after saves. If I change the file name in the finder, it immediately updates like it should. Files in Dropbox reflect the old time (as tested by looking at my Macbook Air running Mavericks)
PDFs made from InDesign and saved to a folder do not appear for a very, very long time, if ever. The PDF is there as I can see it in a shared dropbox on my Mavericks laptop as soon as it syncs
I had another issue with Outlook attachments being unable to be saved to a folder, but they could be saved to the desktop. That problem got fixed with a reboot.
What's going on with my finder? Running all the latest software.

Annoying as all get out, isn't it? My old contextual menu item Nudge won't force the Finder to update either. In my case it also has a certain recalcitrance about updating file sizes. Pray to the computer gods for this updating nonsense to get fixed. In the meantime, you can try relaunching the Finder, that is the only reliable way I've found to force a window update. Hold down the option key, then click and hold on the Finder icon in the Dock and select Relaunch. All Finder windows will close, the Desktop will blink. When you re-navigate to your folder it should now have the correct dates.

Updates for CS6 version 8 (NOT extended)?

I can't find updates for CS6 version 8 (NOT extended). There are issues:
Application Manager needed to be upgraded, done.
When I open the prog and go to Help>Updates it opens my browser to Adobe, not to updates.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the prog.
Same issue persists, mainly when using poly lasso tool. The prog won't let me make a full selection, it jumps and makes it's own selection.
What a plethora of problems!!
Pls be patient with me as I have a broken brain now, and can't follow complicated instructions like I used to. The simpler, the better! Thanks.

Once in awhile, they do have bug fixes for CS6. The only thing I can think of that was an upgrade for CS6 was a newer version of camera raw. For now they are allowing CS6 to have the latest version of camera raw, but when they are done with supporting CS6, I imagine that will be the last of the upgrades. I don't know of any dates, but I heard it wasn't for a long time if at all. So I guess we will all have to wait and see.
As for getting updates, I think you will like the manager. It makes it much easier. Frankly I didn't know the manager worked on the perpetual license. I knew it worked on the subscription. So it is good to know that it works for you as well.
