PDFs printing wrong colours

Hi there
Hoping someone can help me.  I have a cd cover going to print on Monday, ive designed it in photoshop and illustrator cs5.  It looks fine on screen and prints out fine from these programs but when i pdf it the colours go so dark you can barely make it out.  Pdf looks fine on screen, its only when i print.  Theres no way i can send it when its printing out like this!  I have tried pdfing from illustrator and photoshop and the colours print as badly on both. I think this is the first time i have printed pdf from CS5.  I have been up all night trying to work out whats going on.  Ive tried printing out old pdf files created in CS3 and they are printing ok.  Please could someone give me some advice, im going crazy!
Thanks
Lisa

PS
if you are caught on a deadline and can't figure Acrobat printing out, not to worry, do your proofing in Photoshop
as long as you have a 'calibrated' monitor, Photoshop will display color correctly (using the correct Source Profile) and "Soft Proof" your printer's recommended Printer Profile to doublecheck any gamut issues
just be sure to embed ICC profiles in your documents and make sure your people downstream use your embedded profile

HP PSC 1100, 1200, or Officejet 4100 Series Not Printing Correctly  (See this link for full instructions with diagrams, plus other solutions to try.  The following instructions were taken from this document.
    The colors are incorrect
This normally occurs because one of the ink cartridges are low on one or more colors of ink, do the following to determine if the ink cartridge is out of ink.
Check the estimated ink levels in the Printer Toolbox. If the all-in-one software is not installed, skip to Step 2.
NOTE: The estimated ink levels are calibrated for the HP 56 and HP 57 ink cartridges. The estimated ink level will be incorrect for the HP 28 ink cartridge.
In the HP Director software, click Settings , click Print Settings , and then click Printer Toolbox .
In the Printer Toolbox, select the Estimated Ink Level tab as is shown in Figure 1. Remember that this is an estimated ink level based on counting the drops of ink used and that it may not reflect the actual amount of ink remaining. If one or more of the colors of ink are low or empty, replace the ink cartridge.
Figure 1: The Estimated Ink Level tab of the Printer Toolbox
Print a test page by one of the following methods:
From the Printer Toolbox: Select the Device Services tab of the Toolbox and then click Print a Test Page . The test page marked A in Figure 2 will print.
From the all-in-one front panel: Press and hold the Cancel button, and then press the Color Start Copy button. The test page marked B in Figure 2 will print.
Figure 2: Self test pages - A is from the Printer Toolbox, B is from the front panel
If the colors on the test page look correct and are not faded or light, continue troubleshooting with Step 4 below. If the colors on the test page do not look correct or are faded or missing, clean the ink cartridges as detailed in the "Cleaning the ink cartridges " section below. Replace the ink cartridge if the correct colors do not print after cleaning the ink cartridge.
Assign a color management profile to the all-in-one. To do this, refer to the following:
Click Start , click Settings , and then click Printers (in Windows XP, click Start , and then click Printers and Faxes ) to open the Printers folder.
In the Printers folder, right-click the HP all-in-one printer icon and then click Properties .
    Click the Color Management tab.
Click Add to see the list of available color profiles.
In the Add Profile Association dialog box, select Diamond Compatible 9300k G2.2.icm .
Click Add and then click OK . Print the file again. If the application does not print in color, use Microsoft Paint to print a document with colors.
Try printing again and see if the colors are better.
When printing on some photo papers, there can be a greenish cast to blacks when photo paper is the selected paper type. Change the Paper Type setting to HP Bright White paper or Plain paper and print the page again.

  • MP540 printing wrong colour.

This a.m.I scanned /printed text to take it along with me when Ibuying cheap reading glasses. Original document's black was not intense, but a rather paler shade toward grey. The output had a green shade .
This p.m. I deep clean ed and a nozzle checked. TNozzle check showed that were absent, although magenta cartridge shows as half full. Scan and print this time
gave a good rendering of black, but all the red in the original had become green.
Has anyone had that problem before, please? How was it solved.

  • Table text prints wrong colour

My webpages have a black background with text in yellow.
It also has some information in tables, and there are links within this table.
I can use print css to successfully print the body of the pages in black text, but the text in tables will only print in yellow. This is not easy to read on a white background and I simply cannot figure out how to get around this. The tables are required, by the way.
Cn anyone suggest a code that will print out the table text in yellow, and the links within that table in blue?

  • How do I print a colour PDF in black and white

How do I print a colour PDF in black and white.

Thanks for that, unfortunately a) I'm a Mac user and b) I've already ticked the grayscale box in the print dialogue box and it seems to ignore or override the instruction and still print in colour. I've been in to the advanced instructions and tried a couple of different settings there but still no luck.

  • Black text/graphics in PDF print grey

    Hello,
what follows is completely beginners question. I'm not even sure I'm in a right place, so my apologies (if I'm not).
I have created a little flyer in Corel Draw. It is very simple and basically contains some black text, small black outlined object and dark blue frame. It prints from Corel to my B/W home laser as it should - black text and object are solid black when printed. However, when I convert to PDF (from Corel's publish PDF option) and try printing PDF file on same printer, black text and object come out dark grey on paper.
So I took my PDF file to a friend. He's office has decent equipment and software for some reason, but they are not into graphics business so hardly an experts as well. First we tried printing PDF file to Canon iR2270 B/W network laser and on Brother HL-4200CN colour network laser and result was same - black elements in PDF print dark grey. Then we opened PDF in Adobe Illustrator CS2 and tried printing from there - and everything printed fine, black was sharp, solid black. But when we re-created PDF from Illustrator and tried printing it from Acrobat, we had same problem.
We tried some other ideas - created new document in Illustrator, printed it fine (from Illustrator), converted to PDF (both saving it as PDF and "printing" it to PDF file as there is Acrobat 7 installed as well) and whatever we did, PDF printout had grey instead of solid black. We also tried different PDF print profiles - standard, HQ, press... same issue.
Document is created as CMYK, and both in Corel and Illustrator black elements are 100% black, with CMY values set to 0%.
As it was tried in different environments with same results, I'm sure there's nothing wrong with software/drivers/hardware, but I'm missing some simple option in settings/preferences.
Does any of this make any sence to you guys? Anyone has idea what am I doing wrong..?

Ruud S. has the solution that worked for me.
"To get nice black colors they create a black just to overlap all the other colors. C 100% M 100% Y 100% K 100%"
Make a new swatch of black with ALL of the colors set to 100%, not just the black.
I have been testing this on a Brother HL-2070N printer but I've also run into these documents causing problems on our work copier (Xerox Workcenter Pro 275), though less frequently with the Xerox copier. It seems like a lot of people are having this problem with Brother printers so it might be something they are especially prone to. I don't know what program they were created in originally since they're a customer's file but I edited all of the black colors in Illustrator and it's printing fine now.
The files were originally PDF files that were 5 pages long. I've been opening up each page in Illustrator to change the colors and to make the requested changes. After I've changed each page, I create a new PDF by combining the 5 individual pages to get my packet.

  • Using PDF Printer TO Print Multiple Word Docs At Once.

I Have Just upgraded from acrobat to acrobat 3d. In Acrobat 5 i was able to select a batch of word document (150+ usually) and use the send to command to send them to the acrobat distiller and each document would open one at a time print and then close. I have now been upgraded to Acroabat 3D and if i use the same Send to Command to send a batch of word docs to the pdf printer it tries to open all the selected files at once and i get an error message "the command cannot be performened because a dialog box is open..." this is because the 1st document is open and printing so the secound document that opened at the same time cannot operate the print command. Can Anyone help?

  • PDF printer has a problem with Safari in "Reader" mode in Windows7

As shown in the image above. When I try to use the PDF printer to print out a web page in Safari "Reader" mode, the lines near the bottom of each page get squeezed like this. There is no problem with XPS printer. I guess this problem is because of some incorrect settings in Safari or the PDF printer?
My system is Windows 7 Pro. I am using Acrobat X Pro. The page I am trying to print is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_band_structure. This problem only happens when the webpage is adjusted into "Reader" mode in Safari.

    Many thanks for your reply!
I am sorry, I did not make my question clear. I would like to save some web pages only in "Reader" mode, because in this mode all the advertisements are filtered out and the pages look much nicer than the origional layout.
I first let Safari to active "Reader" by clicking "Reader" button.
Then I click "Print" button and select Adobe PDF as the printer.
The problem is the PDF file has something wrong (shown above), and I would like to know how to avoid this problem.

  • Hp deskjet 990c not printing in colour

    Hello
I recently made the switch to a MacBook, however my hp deskjet 990c is now not printing in colour! Additionally, I can't seem to find how to enable double sided printing.
    Can anyone help me please?!
I've attached an image on what happens when I click on print.
    Many thanks.

    Hi Alia26,
I understand that you cannot print in color or do duplex printing now. I will try my best to help you resolve this issue. Could you please try printing from another program to see if you have the choice to print in color and duplex.
I suggest that we start with power cycling the network.
    How to power cycle network
Follow these steps to reset your HP printer, your wireless router, and your computer.
1.Press the Power button on the HP printer to turn it off.
2.Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the HP printer.
3.Disconnect the power cord from the wireless router.
    4.Turn off the computer.
    5.Wait 30 seconds.
6.Reconnect the power cord to the wireless router.
7.Wait 30 seconds, or until the router is fully on and ready.
    8.Turn the computer back on.
9.Wait for the computer to reload.
10.Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the HP printer.
    11.Turn the printer back on.
In the User Guide on page 24 it explains the setup for Manual Two-Sided Printing
    User Guide LINK: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/bpd08297.pdf

  • [WONTFIX] Wrong colours in Adobe Reader (acroread)

When viewing this file in Adobe Reader 9.5.5, the colours look utterly wrong, they are way too dark and distorted. At first I thought it was an issue with the CMYK colours in the original picture, but when I converted the picture to RGB colour space (embedded in the example file), the issue persists. It doesn't appear in Poppler-based pdf viewers like Evince, nor in pdf.js, the default pdf viewer in Firefox. I also had a look in Adobe Reader XI on Windows XP (in a VirtualBox) and the colours appeared correctly to me.

I already read about ICC Profiles in the Wiki, but can't imagine that only a single application gets the colours so wrong. What's the issue here? I can only find very old posts about Acrobat Reader 7 outputting wrong colours (where it is suggested to use Acrobat Reader 5).
Last edited by Marcel- (2015-02-21 19:15:06)

Indeed, for me too, the colors are wrong wity Acrobat reader but correct with xpdf or ghotscript (used with ghostview). Acrobat reader is more or less a standalone application (it depends on core GNU/Linux libraries but not on external ICC profiles or fonts). So I simply assume that it is a bug in acroread. As the application is proprietary, it is not the resort of Archlinux. But do you really need acroread? Opensource PDF viewers works fine and open your file correctly.

  • Printing from the Word to the pdf printer,

Printing from the Word to the pdf printer,
I wanted to print a Word document using the pdf printer but sounds this printer doesn’t provide a dialogue box to choose where to save the printed pdf file. It prints the document but couldn’t know where does the acrobat stick it!
    What might be the problem?
Is there some option that controls this behaviour?
    Thank you for the help,

If you select the properties (or preferences) when right clicking on the Adobe PDF printer, there is a Settings tab (if not select the Advanced button on the general tab) and select the settings tab. There are selections there for requestion the file name and other items related to PDF creation. Sorry if my selections are not clear, I am on the wrong computer to check the correct selections for you, so give it a shot and try various selections until you find the settings.
