PDFs won't open in Safari; blank screen with Quicktime logo opens instead

When I click on a link to a PDF file within a Safari browser window, the PDF file does not open (in Acrobat or Acrobat Reader) as desired, or as it once did. Rather, now a new window opens with a Quicktime logo showing agains an otherwise blank white field and no other info is present. I can't seem to open any PDF files from any web source, nor can I right click to download them to my computer for opening later. I have read other postings on this subject, and upon opening my library/internet plug-ins folder, I find that no plug-ins at all are present.
How can I get Safari to open PDFs normally? I can't seem to find any relevant preference settings in either Safari or Acrobat which have any effect on this problem.
My operating system is 10.3.9, and my version of Safari is 1.3.2. My version of Acrobat reader is 7.0.9, and my version of Acrobat is 5.0.5. Thanks for any advice...!

  • Why does Captivate pdf of lesson open to a blank screen with no content?

Saved and published Captivate elearning as a pdf.  When I opened it on my work computer or sent to others at work work for review, it opened as a full interactive eLearning.  I saved the pdf to a flash drive and copied the pdf to my home computer.  The file shows as the same MB size but opens to a blank screen with no content.  Do I need another version of Acrobat?  I don't have Captivate on my home computer.  I am looking for another job and need to show the learning as a sample of my work.  Help!

I have Acrobat 8 on my Mac Computer and it still doesn't open with content.  I tried installing the Flash player to my computer and still no go.  I sent the pdf to a recruiter with windows and they also didn't open.  I am very frustrated about what to do.

Macbook Pro (2011) froze while working, forced shut down, now won't turn on. Grey screen with apple logo and spinning wheel for hours. Help?
Unfortunately do not know the operating system since I never updated anything and I can't get in to it.
    Thanks for your assistance.

If you want to preserve the data on the boot drive, and it's not already backed up, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is not fully functional. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    1. Boot from the Recovery partition or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    2. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.

  • Blank Screen With Apple Logo Problem

While watching a movie  (.AVI, ~400MB, Normal Resolution) with OPlayer,
i got a black screen with the apple logo.
I pressed the round button on my ipad2 several times.
After 30-40 second i saw my "desktop" (not to the oplayer).
    This happened 2 times.
    Any idea????
    Thanks.

Try restarting your device or do a hard reset ie hold the power and home buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears — a restart is always the first option if anything goes wrong.

    Stuart:
Sorry about the glitch. That Disk Utility reports "Underlying task reported failure" when repairing a volume is a serious directory issue that can sometimes be repaired by Disk Warrior.
In terms of getting you data off the HDD to the external Firewire HDD, here are two options.
    1. You can use SuperDuper to create a bootable clone of your entire HDD on the external firewire HDD.
    2. You can purchase DataRescue II to get your music off. I understand Prosoft has excellent tech support. Give them a call. See also Dr. Smoke's FAQ Data Recovery.
    Please keep us updated.
    Good luck.

  • Blank screen with flashing folder with question mark on startup of 13" macbook

Hello world, my daughter's 13" macbook upon startup opens to a blank screen with a flashing folder with a question mark in it... If anyone could help us resolve this issue we would greatly appreciate it... Thanks!..

That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the Operating System data on the hard drive is somehow corrupted.
Put your install DVD into the optical drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Just press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.

  • TS3824 2011 mac mini won't go past white screen with apple logo

My Mac mini won't move past a white screen with apple logo in the center. What should I do?

    Hi ..
If you have v10.7 Lion installed, use Lion Recovery  to repair the startup disk if necessary, or reinstall the Mac OS X.
If you are running a prior Mac OS X, boot from your install disc, run Disk Utility. The startup disk may need repairing >  Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks
And try Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM

YouTube will not work on safari for me on the ipad. Is there anyway to fix this? I can go anywhere else on the internet fine and it works on google chrome, but on safari it shows a blank screen with the bar on top after it loads, if it's even loading at all.
I do not know if it's relevant or not, but I got a message on my ipad while on safari saying that my iPhone has a virus. I looked it up and it seems it might have just been an ad from the website I was on, but it happened around the same time YouTube stopped working.

You will find that using the YouTube app will provide a better viewing experience for YouTube videos.

  • Open to a blank screen (NOT blank document) - Can it be done?

Is there a way to open to a blank screen (like when you click close on the document template screen)? I'd like to be able to be able to choose to open recent items without having to close the dialog. This is what I do most.

    Hi Timothy,
It might not be possible to open to blank screen, but here's a workaround:
    1. Go to Finder > File > New Smart Folder.
    2. In the first row, select Kind as the first search criteria and then "Others..."; type "pages" into the box (or select "Pages Publication")
    3. On the second row, choose Last Opened, Created or Last Modified, and then the time frame you want (last 2 weeks, for example).
    4. Click on Save (top right corner of the window).
This will create your own document launcher for Pages. Rather than using the "Open Recent" submenu from Pages use this smart folder to launch the docs you want. The folder can also be saved to your sidebar for easy access.
Not exactly what you wanted, but hopefully a helpful workaround.

  • Compressor v4.1 opens to a blank screen / current-active-complete at center top

Compressor v4.1 opens to a blank screen / current-active-complete at center top of page. Removed Compressor and reinstalled. Same problem.

Found solution: Hold down option key, click on go and select library, application support, compressor, layouts, and then trash Compressor.saved.moduleLayout. Restart compressor.
After sending video file from fcp x 10.1 to compressor another problem aroused. Processing real slow, my cusor moved erratically. Working in other applications wasn't smooth. When processing completed, everything turned to normal. Same problem when rendering video in fcp x 10.1. Any suggestions?

  • Won't boot up. Comes to a blank screen with a blinking curser in the top left corner?

Hi.  I have a hp G62-225NR Notebook running windows 7.  I was browsing the internet as usual when the computer suddenly shut off and restarted itself, then not too long after it restarted itself it shut off again accept this time it only came to a blank screen with the blinking curser at the top.  I've tried troubleshooting online and I went to the BIO and restored default setup and did the hard drive and memory test which both passed.  I can't get to safe mode, or don't know properly how, and when I hit f11 for system recovery it just goes back to the blank screen with the blinking curser.  The computer was working just fine, it seems like there must be a fix for this.  Any advise here would obviously be hugely appreciated, thanks in advance.

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570    Follow this article and when it gets to the part where you go into disk utility using your install disc, you'll actually boot up holding down Command and R
