PDK, NWDS

Hi,
are PDK and NWDS different things?
Thanks.

NWDS is an IDE that is used for developing different kinds of applications like webdynpro for java,java,J2EE,web services, portal applications and it is a standalone installation with respect to portal.
The Portal Development Kit (PDK) is an extension of the SAP NetWeaver
Development Studio and represents a collection of:
– Development documentation
– Sample applications providing reference coding
– Tools for use by developers

  • PAR Upload Error from NWDS

I'm unable to export a PAR file from NWDS to the Portal. I go into the com.sap.ep.connectionManager log and find the error captured there with the URL address that NWDS was attempting to connect to and drop it in a browser. This results in the following error message:
ERROR: Upload failed - exception caught: com.sapportals.portal.prt.runtime.PortalRuntimeException: Invalid content type submitted - no multipart data
Has anyone encountered this and has a solution?
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for the response, Yoav.
There is not a problem with uploading the par file. I can enter Java Development-Tools-PRT Admin Console and use the Archive Uploader to store the par file in the PCD.
This appears to be a problem with NWDS communicating with the portal and the way the file is presented for upload. I am using NWDS SP11 with EP 6 SP11 and PDK 6 SP9.
    Thanks again,
    Steve

  • Migrating and Enhancements in .par files created with PDK

    Hi ,
We had deployed .par files created using PDK on EP 5 to EP 7 and they are working correctly.
Now there are some enhancement which are coming up in the applications.
I wanted to know whether it would be better to go to NWDS to modify those applications or would PDK be the right approach?
I am not sure what is the PDK file for NW2004s?
Appreciate if some one can guide on which approach should i take for enhancements.

  • Version of pdk for EP 7.0.4  in SAP NetWeaver 2004s

    Hello,
I have installed Portal (EP) 7.0.4 in netweare 2004s (was 7.0) in oracle 10g and Windows 2003.
    Question:
    1. That version of pdk I must install ?
    2. Where I can find for download ?
    thanks for its aid ,
    Luis.

    Luis,
the PDK contains mainly documentation and examples. That means the PDK should be installable.
Your NWDS 7.0 has all the needed Portal-APIs in the correct version already implemented so that you can use them.
IMHO, there are just minor changes between the 6.40 and 7.00 versions.

  • How to access SAP netweaver development Studio and PDK?

    Hi All,
I have access to EP server on my machine with super admin role .Is there any way I can acess SAP netweaver Developer Studio and PDK through EP server or I have to install in my local machine?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jasmine.

You'd want to install the NWDS application locally no matter what (unless everyone has a thin client/citrix connection via dumb terminal). You can however, opt to install a local instance of EP or use a central instance. Here's how I see the two approaches:
1-install the NWDS on developers' machines and deploy to a development instance of EP
    <b>PROS:</b>
i-developers can develop locally and only connect to the EP server for deploying/testing
ii-share development (although not very efficiently) and test each others' iViews etc.
iii-demo your work online to business users directly
iv-connect to the corporate SAP R/3 and other ERP systems
    <b>CONS:</b>
i-you can only use this while connected to the network
ii-could be slow over a slow/remote network connection
iii-developers may not be able to do everything on the portal server (may not have super admin access)
2-install the NWDS on the developers' PC along with a test EP environment
    <b>PROS:</b>
i-develop and deploy locally, without a network connection, anywhere and anytime, fast and efficient
ii-enjoy full access (super admin) to the Portal - to be able to test pretty much everything
    <b>CONS:</b>
i-may not be able to connect to the company SAP R/3 and other ERP systems, unless you're connected to the network and have configured the connections
ii-not able to get others to test or demo your development without having to port them to a central EP instance
I think a developer needs every resource they can get, therefore I suggest a combination of the above two scenarios, an instance of EP locally and a central instance of EP for the best of both worlds

  • What exactly is PDK??

    hello!
I'm asked to evaluate the development tools for EP Content Development and PDK is one of the 'tools' on my agneda. But is it a tool ? In some documents it appears as a development environment, in other documents it is defined as a set of documentation and roles in EP 6.0.
Has the use of PDK changed from EP 5.0 to EP 6.0 ? Was it a development tool in the older version? Is it integrated in Netweaver Developer Studio ? ( I can't find it). I would be very glad for some clarifications!
    Regards, Tine

    Hi Tine,
PDK is for deployment for portal application, has very good documentation of portal development, contains sample application, Java Docs for all the apis for portal and KM and plugins for eclipse(which you don't need if you are using NWDS). It is basically a nice help for developer along with an iviews for uploading par and testing them.
In EP 5.0 it consisted of Tomcat engine as well. In EP 6.0 it is just business package that you import to your portal. This will then give a "java development" role in portal which can be assigned to people. The role will then create a tab called "Java Development" in the top navigation and click on it you can see all the contents underneath.
NWDS is where you do your development. It is no relationship to NWDS. Your NWDS could also deploy application directly to portal.
download the PDK from following location

  • Problem displaying EP Perspective in NWDS

    Hi,
I've a standalone installation of NWDS but I didn't get the EP perspective. All other perspectives such as Design Time Repository, Webdynpro etc. are shown but not EP. Can anyone please help me fix this problem?

Have you installed the Portal plugins?
These plugins are availabe through the PDK on the portal via Java Developer>Development>Downloads
(While you are there get your EP libraries, note this does <b>not</b> include JCA libs)
Or you can download them right here on the SDN via
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/sdn/downloadarea.sdn
Once you have them installed launch netweaver and select open perspective>Other>Enterprise Portal.

  • SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio 2.0.5 and PDK

    Hello,
when i installed the sap netweaver developer studio 2.0.5 have then i the pdk installed to, or have i to this separatelly? And when yes what i have to do in this case(how to install that?)? Which are the difference between with and without the pdk?
    Tanks in advance,
    Frank

The PDK contains documentation, examples, javadocs, and sample code for developing portal applications.  You don't technically need the PDK to develop EP components, but it sure helps.
The plugins in SAP NWDS facilitate building and testing portal applications by creating the correct project structure within the Eclipse IDE (NWDS) and also assisting with the deployment of the application (creation of PAR files and uploading them to the portal).  Again, you can build EP components without NWDS plugin, but the plugins sure make life a little easier.  I do know people that use other IDEs and Ant build scripts for their EP development.
    Hope this helps,
    Will

  • Pdk download for eclipse 3

    Hi everyone,
does anyone know where to download the pdk for eclipse 3.  I have EP 6, not netweaver.  I have downloaded a pdk file, bit it zipped out to an .epa file and I don't know what to do with it.
    thanks a bunch,
    Mariana

    Hi Priya,
I think we have discussed everything from your post already in deep (and more detailed, for example that the PDK for EP6 SP2 in fact <i>contains</i> the plugins for Eclipse 2.1).
    > The pluggins can be downloaded from SDN itself.
As I have already written, once upon a time they could. But this has been changed. They are not offered via SDN GUI nor placed on the FTP server.
By the way: Check out ftp://ftp.sap.com/pub/sdn/devkits/netweaver/java The sneak preview full Java Edition based on SP15 is there, as well as the NWDS SP15 (not announced until now on SDN)
    Regards
    Detlev
PS: @Mariana - please consider rewarding points for helpful answers on SDN. Thanks in advance!

  • How to set up NWDS and where do I find libraries, and API doc...

    Hi experts,
I am new EP Development.  I have WebAS 6.40 installed, with NWDS - only NWDS and no EP.  I have written some small code using HTMLB control, and getting error coz the libraries pertaining to HTMLB are missing. I tried to import the libraries into NWDS from the project properties, but did not find any libraries.   Where can I find the libraries that I can include in the NWDS?  Do we have to install anything else than just installing NWDS to get the access to libraries and APIs ?  Please advise.
    Thanks in advance.
    Vicky R.

    Hi,
WAS is only an application server, you have to install enterprise portal to deploy and run applications.
Refer this link for a simple example
    <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/ce/e0a341354ca309e10000000a155106/frameset.htm">jspdynpage</a>
You can download the EP sneak preview from here
    <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/downloaditem?rid=/library/uuid/cfc19866-0401-0010-35b2-dc8158247fb6">Download</a>

You can search help.sap.com for information.
    PORTAL API'S
    <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/javadocs">API</a>
    ========================================================
The basic jar files such as the one for htmlb are available in the eclipse->plugins directory in your system. use the jar finder set the path to eclipse->plugins directory and give the search term as "htmlb" and
right click on the search result to add it to your project.ex:
    PDK only contains sample code.
see the jar finder blog and install the jar finder or right click on the project -> properties->java build path->Add external jars->
the htmlb jar is in the folder
    eclipse->plugins->com.sap.ep.applicationdevelopment->
com.sap.portal.htmlb_api.jar add this jar to your project.
Some jar files will be on the server machine, if you cannot find the jar file in the eclipse plugins folder then they will be in the server under the path

  • Convert portal service to web service option in NWDS

    Hi all,
I am using SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio (Version: 7.0.14), in this I couldn't find option to convert portal service to web service.
Please help me out, how to convert portal service to web service through NWDS or any other way to do it.
    Helpful answer will appreciate.
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Kathiresan R

    Hi
In NWDS go to New ->other -> portal application -> portal application object -> portal web services -> portal web services from portal services and select ur portal service.
Generate portal web service with PDK wizard by choosing Portal web service from portal service
Select the interfaces by clicking the browser button.
select the methods to be exposed to web service.
Now WSDL files are generated for portal services.
You can view the WSDL by going to
System administration->support->portal runtime -> soap admin -> web services.
Hope this works for you. Please excuse any small mistakes if I have made.

    Shitij
