PE 8 won't render PE 4 project

I have a project that is just a slide show (all still pictures, no video). I created it in PE4. It had some minor "flickering" issues so I wanted to open in my newly acquired PE 8 and see if the problems went away. I can open the project without problems but when I attempt to render the project, PE 8 does some stuff, but does not show the "frame" indicator or progress bar. "Render Details" shows file names changing, but the Rendering Media progress bar stays at 0%. After some time (30 seconds more or less), the project will begin playing, but transitions are still not smooth. The red line above the work area does not change to green. I have cleared the rendered files out of the project. I'm on most recent Quicktime. My video card is vanilla Intel Graphics. Running on a separate internal 1TB drive. PC is an Intel Quad core processor with 8GB RAM. I have been using PE for many years, and generally have not had issues moving forward. A simple project created in PE 8 does render correctly. I have adjusted I have set preferences/scratch disks so all are in the project directory. So, the question: is there anything that needs to be done to make rendering work on older projects, or shoud I just stick to the older version of PE for those?

Yes, there is some pain in this regard. (Rendering a timeline from an older version of PrE)
I guess you would want to add an effect/transition and see the effect on the monitor and then and only then decide to export it to a DVD or a file.
To get around it, I would suggest the following..
Say you have a transition added between two clips in an older version of PrE and the rendering does not happen. You can move the work area bar to cover the exact area of interest and then export to a dv-avi file. (Longer process, but always accurate). Make sure that you have the option that says "Export only work area bar" checked in the Export screen.
This work area bar will then become a small avi file, that can be separately viewed and then deleted. This takes less than 10 secs to export and then playing the file on a player (vlc?) takes another 10 secs. Agreed that what should have taken less than a sec is taking 20 or so, but you can be sure of how the file would look when exported at all times. No surprises!
If you are not one of those who edits the transitions a lot, you can also do this. In the same timeline, import two other images, after the complete imported timeline and then "try-out" the transition/effect/title on that and use that on the actual clips you need to export. Be sure to delete the "test" files before exporting to DVD.
Another approach you can take is to import all the images directly in PrE8 and then do this editing, if you have time that is.
Meanwhile we can all hope this thing gets solved by the time more of us don't get frustrated more.
I have not seen a problem in the exported content, ever, just that rendering does not happen correctly for these projects not native to PrE8. Something I personally can live with, with these workarounds, of course

  • Media Encoder CC  won't render Magic Bullet Denoiser II

    Hello there,
i've got the following Problem: I am having Premiere CC and used the Red Giant Plug-In Denoiser II on my last project, when i import this project to the Media Encoder and select Quicktime for output, the Media Encoder won't render the clip with this Plug-In. i always get the original files out, without the denoiser. Original footage from in premiere is 2,5k CinemaDNG RAW from the Black Magic Cinema Camera.
    thx

I feel like there was a recent update to the RG plugins (inside of the last 30 or so days.) Are they up to date?

  • Timeline won't render in Premiere Elements 12 (and music video editing advice)

I have a section of video I'm editing that won't render. I've read some similar threads but still have a question about how I can edit the clips to 'force' a render.
I'm running PE 12 on a Core i3 laptop running Windows 8, so not a huge amount of processing power. I don't have an orange line above the timeline over these clips and I understand PE has decided that it's already giving me the best possible preview quality and doesn't need to render this section. However, it's four quick edits in time to some music and when I preview it back my computer clearly can't process the video and audio fast enough because I get very jerky video so I can't verify that the cuts are perfectly aligned to the drum beats.
I've been exporting the whole four minutes just to review about five seconds of video in the middle to make sure it's synched, and this is getting really frustrating as I'm having to make frame by frame adjustments to improve the sync.
Is there anything I can do to each clip, like adjust an image setting, to force PE to give me an orange line and want to render this section?
Just as an aside to anyone who edits music video type clips - if you're making, say, four quick cuts to four drum beats in a bar, do you find the audio/visual sync works best if the cut is on the frame the drum beat attack starts on, or does it seem more natural if it's one or two frames after the initial attack so it's 'mid drum beat'? I'm tending to find just after the initial attack looks/sounds better for me - but maybe that's something to do with the delay in my PC processing the frame!
    Thanks for any advice,
    Chris.

Please excuse the questions, but I did not want to take anything for granted...are you sure that you are looking above the Timeline content for the render indicator line? Assuming that you are OK with that.....
Are the gray tabs of the Work Area Bar placed so that they span the entire content of the Timeline, including this five second content which you say cannot be rendered. Remember rendering does not fix problems, rather it is a preview that helps you to realize that a problem exists sooner than later. Consequently, please confirm if an orange line persists over that five second content even if you press the Render key above the Timeline.
Have you expanded the Timeline content to the maximum with the Zoom Out Zoom In Slider above the Timeline get the best look at the content on the Timeline in contrast to get the best possible preview in the Edit area monitor?
Have you gone to Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and set the Audio Display Format to Milliseconds if you are involved in audio edits?
Have you been nudging audio in sync with video using shortcuts, such as...
As you hold down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard, tap the left or right arrow key once (one tap = 1 frame nudge)
As you hold down the Shift+Alt keys of the computer main keyboard, tap the left or right arrow key once (one tap = 5 frames nudge)
I would suggest that exploration and experimentation are the best tools with which to work to achieve a specific effect for your specific
    situation.
Please review and then let us know if any of the above targets your questions about your workflow.
    Thank you.

  • FCP suddenly won't render anything

I had a project a client wanted a scene cut out so I deleted the transitions, selected my in and out points and shift + delete to remove the footage & close the gap. I put in a dip to color transition (green) but FCP won't render it, I just see a very brief window pop up and nothing. I removed the transition and it won't render the ends of the 2 clips (both are JPEG RGB graphics)Cap locks are off, all colors selected in sub menus, no gap, plenty of footage, tons of hard drive space. The system has been running like a dream up to now. I even deleted an existing transition, put it back and it won't render it. I've worn the book ragged reading it over and over but I must be missing something. Have also rebooted & checked my preferences though nothing seems out of place.

Sometime a sequence muff up with no reasons, what i do , i save the job save project as.. with a complete new name close FCP and reopen it with the new file most of the time it is working ,if not, export the complete sequence in self contained QuickTime movie

  • FCP 4 won't render

    Hi,
I'm using fcp 4 and I when I try to render some scrolling text, it takes a long time and then comes up with general error 34. After that, it won't render anything. I have made sure that all the option colors are checked, and I have tried dumping the preferences.
    Thanks

    Hi David,
There is lots of space. I had a student that added some titling to a project at the end of a video, and it wouldn't render. Then when I put the same titling on top of a clip, it rendered without a problem. I'm not sure why this was happening.

  • Transitions won't render.

I've been having trouble on and off with the ken burns effect and now for some reason when I insert a transition it won't render. Is there some command I can put in that will make it render or something else I can do? Also, if I try to empty the trash I get an error message saying that something is rendering but nothing is.

HI Silas is Awesome - is your project stored on an external drive? If so it must be formatted for Macs - Mac OS Extended.

  • Themes won't render in iMovie06

When I use some Themes in iMovie in order to make my Holiday-Videos a little bit more "interesting", I can choose all the themes and templates und drag them in the timeline. However they won't render, so that the red line won't change. Also saving my project won't work, because it is still rendering (but nothing happens). I have this problem since QT 7.5 but cannot downgrade...
I waited a VERY long time for rendering-processes on my iMac 2.8 4GB but nothing happend at all.
    what can I do?

    puh.....
    Thank you for the reply.
However, reinstalling the system without using a backup means very very much work... Is there no there Chance to use iMovie06 correctly?
    I can't really believe that

  • Transitions won't render all the time

When publishing my finished Captivate file, sometimes the transitions that I selected won't render. Or some will render and others won't. In order to fix it, I have to open my project, and go to each slide that needs a transition, change the transition to No Transition, then back to Fade, or whatever transition I was using. Then when I publish the file, I keep my fingers and toes crossed because it might or might not render them all. Is there a fix on the way to ensure that transitions are not ignored when rendering?

    Hi,
Re-publish the project selecting "Force re-publish all the slides" checkbox in "Advanced Options:" of publish dialog.
Let me know if it resolves your issue.
    Thanks,

  • Premiere Elements 9 won't render in the timeline.

    Hey hope all is well.
I created a project in PE 4. Well, in what's looking like a not-so-smart-move midproject, I upgraded to PE 9. I opened the original PE 4 projectin PE 9 and it plays fine but won't render in the timeline. So, all of my effects and such won't render for a preview. This is actually an important project so any help would he appreciate. Thanks!
    mck

This kind of behavior is common when a project is created with one version of the program and then opened with a newer version. This is why many of us on the forum (and I, in my book) recommend not doing this.
It's best to finish your version 4 project in version 4 and than start a fresh project in version 9.

  • AE won't render frames.

I have a fairly simple project. Main comp in which are several precomps with collapsed transformations. The transformation I need to collapse is a shape with the layer style set to multiply over a mask of the same shape on an adjustment layer with a blur. Basically the effect I want is everything under this shape to have a green cast and be blurred.
Everything was working perfectly fine. Now, suddenly, I added in a 3rd precomp with this type of effect, and AE won't render the relevant frames. I can't scrub through - it just hangs up and goes to black. Now if I deselect Collapse Transformations on that precomp, no prob, I can scrub through. So, I tried taking all the elements I need to collapse out of the precomp and placing them in my main comp instead. Same issue - it won't render the frames.
    Anybody? Thanks.

Yeah, and I've noticed Andrew Kramer frequently warns people off the collapse transformations switch as it can cause unforeseen issues...I think in this case using that in tandem with VC Reflect made AE freak out. I was only really nesting for organizational purposes; maybe when I get everything laid out and timed I'll just move all the layers back into the main comp and try to reapply it without any precomps or collapse. It did add a nice finish to some parts of my video. Thanks for your help; I'm still not exactly sure what the problem was, but it def appears to be VC Reflect-related.

  • Clip won't render

I have a timeline of a few clips and one of the clips in the middle won't render (the green line never appears above it).
There is no red line above, just gray.  no matter how many times I hit enter and go through the entire workarea, it stays gray.
The entire thing plays fine in preview but the green line never appears.  Then when I save it as a quicktime, the audio is messed up in that part of teh clip.
    any suggestions?  thanks.

Glad that other formats work for you. I do not know the causes of the problems with QT, but many experience them. One noted poster, Jeff Bellune from the PrPro and the Encore forum, summed it up this way, "Apple just does not understand anything PC." [OK, maybe a slight paraphrase there, but you get the idea.]
I wish that I had a real "fix," but similar can happen when working with MPEG-2 Assets, and then going to a DVD-Video (another MPEG-2 Transcode). I have fought that one, but clients insist on working with MPEG-2 muxed files from previous DVD's, and refuse to go back and get footage, prior to the creation of that DVD. Sometimes, one gets lucky, but often OOS sinks in, and there is little that one can do about it. On one Project, I had sync perfect on the Timeline, but when we'd go to to the delivery DVD, it would be out. I moved Clips around, for the OOS scenes, by my guess on OOS. Without being able to see it on the Timeline, it was seat of the pants. I'd move a second, and observe no correction. Two seconds and still no change. Three seconds, and I'd get two seconds in the other direction! Finally, I had to just say, until you get the footage before Transcoding to MPEG-2 and the DVD, that is the best that you'll get.
Sorry for the bad news, and I wish that I had a "cure" for the QT Export. It plagues folk on PrPro, and also PrE. When things go well, all is OK. When sync goes out, there seems no way to get it right.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Video Won't Render

    Hi all,
My video suddenly stopped rendering. I have no idea why.
    I have tried:
    restarting the computer
copying the project as a new project and deleting the previous one
Moving the video to a new sequence
Creating an entirely new project and creating a small sequence (also won't render so it's not just the project)
Any suggestions other than reinstalling the software, which I am not sure will help but is the only thing I can think of...
    THANKS FOR ANY HELP!
    Shari

My video suddenly stopped rendering. I have no idea why.
What, exactly, needs to be rendered?
By that I mean, is there compositing and/or transitions that need it? Or is it only filters?
If it's only filters, you might have an issue with your User Preferences. That is...
    1. Press Option-Q (User Preferences)
    2. Click on the Render Control tab (2nd from the right)
    3. Make sure - in the 'Render & Playback' box - that the checkbox for 'Filters' is checked. Then click OK
(In case it isn't checked, you'll need to correct this in all of your sequences as well - press Command-0 [Zero] with the sequence active and alter it's Render Control settings)
Also, unrelated specifically to filters, please confirm that your settings under the 3 Render settings found in the Sequence menu in your menubar - Render, Render All, Render Only - have the (correct) settings applied. (ie. that at least something is check-marked. Otherwise, when those actions are activated, nothing will happen)
(all this in addition to the solid advice given by TV Show Guy :))

  • Premiere Pro CC won't render and Encoder freezes at 50%

I'm trying to render a multicam project.  Up until 2 days ago, I could render projects out fine.  Now, if attempting to render with Premiere, the project stays at 0% indefinitely.  If I queue the project in Encoder, it gets to 50%, then just stops any progress in the render but continues to count the time elapsed.  I recently added a Samsung printer to my computer, so I uninstalled all of those pieces of software but still the same results.  The project was created on the previous version of Premiere before the latest update to CC.  It created a new save file and the project opens up fine, with all other functions still available.
I'm running on a Intel Zeon 3.47GHz processor, 14GB ram, gpu acceleration card, 2 gig video card.
Any ideas would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

The benefit's of two pass are dubious, at best.  I recommend bypassing that second pass and just go with one pass encoding.  It's faster and chances are no one would be able to tell any difference.  (Plus, it'll probably work.)
