PE 9; can clip from scene line be saved to use in another project?

Hi-
First time post. Can a clip in the scene line be saved as a separate clip in organizer to be used in another project?
I have a long project that is comprised of many clips, and I would like to reuse some of them in other projects, or other versions of this project.
The "export" button seems to be grayed out in the files section.
Rename seems to be just to rename the whole project.
I guess I could just rename/save several times, then cut out all of the other clips, and just save the desired clip, but that seem like too much work to be the way Adobe really wants it to be able to be done. Is there a more efficient way?

How can I use footage from one project in another? First set the Work Area Bar to cover the part you want to reuse, and then Share it .
Export is only used to save titles files. All other options are within the share tab.

The first thing I would try is to update Acrobat 9 to the latest version 9.5.5
The next thing would be to run Acrobat 9 in Windows 7 or Vista or XP Compatibility Mode.

Is there any way to download the background music from the iMovie trailer template "Romance" to be used in another iMovie of greater length than that of a trailer?

In addition to Tom's good advice, another method is to access the audio file in iMovie's package contents folder.
In Finder, in the Applications folder, right-click (or control-click) on iMovie.app and select Show Package Contents from the pop-up menu. Open the folder Contents>Resources. In that folder you will find components for each Trailer, including the soundtrack. The file you are seeking is named "SoundTrack - Romance.m4a".
Copy then paste the file to your Desktop (don't otherwise mess with items in package contents folders!). Open the file in QuickTime - it is titled "Love Story FC2". Opening the Inspector in QuickTime (Window>Show Movie Inspector) reveals it as AAC format. If you wish, as Tom indicated, you can Export the file from QuickTime in other sound formats, such as AIFF. If preferred, you can import either the AAC file or the converted file to iTunes (or other audio apps) for use as required.

You can select multiple objects in the timeline in the usual Mac way - hold down the shift key while you click on the objects then copy, select other project, position playhead where you want to insert then paste.

How do I store a compound clip for later use or another project?

I created a compound clip, then lifted it from story line and disabled it, its darkened (invisible doesnt play in the viewer),
however its space runs as black empty frames when I play over it.
I want to do 2 things:
I wanted the footage proceeding it to shift in left to fill that black void and play, as the compound clip is "hidden". Is this possible?
I also wanted to save that compound clip for use later in this project and possibly in another project, can I save it out as a separate clip set?

I think I got it, lift the compound clip from storyline by right clicking and choosing "lift from storyline",
drag the compound clip left or right out of its original position, select the grey slate where it used to be in the time line, and hit delete. the clips to the right now shift left to fill its void.
and the compound clip is automatically available in the event library folder its grouped clips originated from but now shown as a compound clip once you create that compound clip..

Does anyone else like to edit each scene seperately. Render and save, then compile a completed movie of the scenes? What format in elements?

You can edit one scene at a time within a single project - setting the WorkAreaBar to cover an individual scene will limit preview rendering to that scene. Once satisfied with a particular scene you can Share it to a separate file if you want to reuse them in other projects - use the WorkAreaBar to cover the range you wish to export. Use the DV-AVI format to maintain quality. Or if you don't mind adding additional codecs add the Lagarith Lossless Video Codec. Bill Hunt has written a Tips & Tricks article on using this.

How can you tell if a file is being used in your project or not?

How can you tell if a file in your bin is being used in your project or not? My director dragged hundreds of reference files into my project and only used a few of them. I'd like to do some house cleaning and delete the ones that are not in use. This project file has 100 sequences in it, so it would be a tough manual hunt to figure this out.
In Premiere Pro (or Flash for example), where all the information is in the Project Bin such as in/out times and duration, there is where it tells you how many times that piece of media has been used or if it hasn't been used yet.
Can FCP tell me this info?

Within FCP, there is a menu item called "Media Manager" (depending on what version you are in). This would be worth your while to look into. It basically organizes your project by moving/archiving any used assets of a project and leaving out un-used assets. It saves a ton of disk space.
For example, say you have a 5 minute clip with an in/out point that is just 30 seconds. Media Manager will "archive" just that 30 seconds, not the entire clip. There is even a setting that you can add additional "handles" time to the front andd back of the clip if you think you may need to add or change transition.
Do a google search. I was just watching a few Youtube videos on this myself.

Hi folks, I am working on several movie clips which share the same graphics and most contents as beginning intro. Just a few sentences are different. If would be so much hassle if I had to type everything and import the images to every clips. I noticed that I can't open two projects at the same time. So I am wondering if I can group them, copy and paste them to another project? Is it doable?

Unfortunately, you have posted to the Tips & Tricks sub-forum, which is a repository for articles on how to do things in PrE & PrPro. Maybe Steve Grisetti, our tireless MOD, can move your post to the main forum, where more folk will see it, and can comment on it.
In the meantime, you are correct - one cannot have two Projects Open at the same time, and you cannot Copy/Paste between Projects, without an additional program, like the Clipboard extender, ClipMate. That is one way to get what you want.
Possibly there is another way to do what you want, without any additional programs. If you have Titles, and they will only change by a bit, you can create a "master" Title with graphics, text, Styles, etc., and then Save each as a Template, which can be used in multiple Projects, and also altered/edited in those Projects, as is needed. Everytime that I create a Title, with potential for reuse, I just do the Export as Template (the exact syntax might differ by version, but the result is the same - a PRTL Title Template file, located where you direct the program), and then those will appear in my Title "organizer" to be chosen. When one Imports one, they can be edited, as needed.
If one has an Intro, that will be reused, then one could create that, with any audio, images and Titles, and Export/Share as a DV-AVI, or similar, for later use. Note: with this method, one could not directly edit any Titles in such an Asset, as they would no longer be official Titles, and would be footage in an AV Clip. One could Cut out a Title, and replace it with a real Title, but then one would have to adjust for Transitions, if any were used. Still, I have some Intros, and Outros, that are constant, like The End Outros, and I use the Exported AV Clips there. In some cases, I leave the Intro, or Outro slightly unfinished, so that I can just add in, say a Title for each use in other Projects.

Can Quicktime Key bought in one country be used in another (bought as gift)?

I have a colleague who recently moved from Singapore to New Zealand with her family. I know she uses Quicktime Pro while she was at my company and I decided to buy an activation key for her. I did this via the Singapore Apple Store, and with the email containing the key, I sent that to her.
However, she said she was unable to activate the key, even after giving her instructions on how to do so (used my name, where to enter it etc).
Does anyone know if a QT Pro key bought in one country is LOCKED OUT from being used in another country?

It shouldn't be. On the Windows side of things, my Pro keys were acquired when I was in the States. They've still functioned here in New Zealand.

How do I move a compound clip made in the time line into the event library to store it for latter use?

With *no other* clips selected, you can create a New Compound Clip (right click and select from popup) in the Event browser; Copy the compound clip in the storyline; double click new empty compound clip to open it in its own timeline and paste the copied compound clip. When you go back to the storyline, the compound clip in the Event browser is updated with the newly pasted compound clip item. If you want to uncompound the stored clips, when in the New compound's timeline, right click on the pasted compound and select Break Apart Clip Items... The only problem you run into if you break items apart is if you have Effects applied to the storyline compound clip, you will lose those effects because the "new" compound in the Event browser will not have those effects and you can't copy/paste effects back into the Event browser, only items in a timeline.

While it is true that some things on the internet cannot be done without having the specifically required hardware/software, usually one finds that everything works, although sometimes more slowly. "Not supported" can mean anything from "true doesn't work" to "may work but we have not tested it and therefore say 'not supported'" to the tech is clueless and just tells you "not supported"!!
Most likely, you have not set various internet-related control panels correctly, or maybe all the necessary control panels and extensions didn't get installed (especially if one did a custom installation instead of easy install.) Double check all your settings, as sometimes a stray character or space can upset things.
Are you using a dial-up or a broadband (cable, dsl) connection, as the settings have to be tweaked differently for each?
While an Apple-friendly ISP should not be required, having one is certainly a joy. Go visit www.themacisp.com or www.macdialup.com for a couple which do a good job and have great tech support, or google for others.

Can I reach specific line in a matrix using formatted search syntex

I'm trying to get data from screen in a specific line in a document. when i use $[$38.1], for example, in the formatted search it always gives the value in the row that the cursor is on., however i am trying to reach a line without requiring the user to have the cursor on that line. when i do that i always get the first line, is there a way to reach a spesific line?
