PE11 and burning to a DVD+R disc

Hi,
I am so lost.
I have video and slideshows that I would like to burn to DVD's for Christmas presents.
I seem to be unable to burn more than one MPEG video or MPEG slideshow to the DVD.
I have reasearched the forum until I'm blue in the face. I have looked into the APE11 Class room in a Book. All to no avail.
Yes - I am very, very new to PE11. In fact this is my first video program I've ever used. I also am not very techy. - Sorry.
Here is the problem. Once I burn a slideshow or a video, I am unable to burn anything else to the DVD+R.
At this time, I am ready to shove everything into one BIG huge file and burn it.
Do I have any other options?
I am using a new Toshiba laptop with Windows 8. The hard drive is almost empty because it is so much larger than my old PC. Ram could be improved but I don't think that is my problem.
I believe I don't understand the function of DVD's. Can you say frustrated? Yep - I can!
DVD-R does what?
DVD+R does what?
DVD-RW does what?
Am I trying to write multiple vidoe's/slideshows to the wrong medium?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

John T. has provided a great link to about all things "DVD."
The +R & -R are types of DVD media, and can be used (in their blank form) to create DVD-Videos, to be played on computers via DVD software players, or by set-top hardware DVD players, hooked to a TV.
Gong back, set-top hardware DVD players were sensitive to the DVD "types," and some would only play one type well, or possibly ONLY one type. Most modern DVD players are much less sensitive, BUT if some recipients have older players, it can still be important. For those older set-top players the +R type media, seem to be slightly more "universal," but there is no "correct answer," as it depends on the actual player.
Most computer multi-drive players can handle either type (and also RW discs), equally well.
Good luck,
Hunt

    Hello guys
I have a project in my Final Cut just about done.  I want to add my slideshow as part ofthe project and burn it to DVD.  Inmy slideshow, there are some stills from the movie clips and some downloadedfrom the internet but they all look blur when playback and even worse if Iapply Ken Burn to it.   Pleasesome one can tell my how to do it right or it can’t be done because thedownload quality and stills from the clip are not suitable or slideshow.  Thank you

    Thank you Ross.
The entire DVD containing Quick Time movies (Final CutExpress project) and slideshow was done in iPhoto.  The Final Cut project was rendered prior to export to QT,  the slideshow was sent to iDVD withoutrendering. The slideshow with most of the pictures from my still camera incombination with stills from movie clips and some downloaded from the Internet. After burning, the movie playback is perfect but the slideshow is not.  The slideshow containing 3 differentkinds of pictures; those from my still camera looks OK; the stills from themovie clips and from the Internet are not.  I don’t have much knowledge in this game, but I think NTSCwith frame size 720x480, and the downloaded picture Item Property shows most ofthem are between 400 to 500 x 300 to 600, may be both of them are not suitablefor TV screen while the stills from my still camera looks OK because they are2048x1536.  Please enlightenme.  Once again, thank you so much,I really appreciate the time you offered.

  • Export to DNG and burn exports to DVD

I thought this option under export was the answer to my dreams! but no. It seems that there is no multi-session option on the burn to DVD, so unless I want to use a new DVD for every set of images I download and export to my back up disc as DNGs, I still have to wait until I've got a large batch of images to back up or waste a lot of DVD space. Somewhat irritating when an option to add to previous files on my DVD would solve this - unless I'm missing something somewhere?

Toast probably maintains better quality if you are just doing simple conversion direct from your camera straight into Toast and then to DVD. There's a lot less transcoding steps and loss of quality in that direct to DVD disk creation in Toast. However, having said that,...There's good arguments probably for both.
What I've seen promoted most often (as most people don't have Toast or aren't motivated to buy it) is to Share to Media Browser (choose the Large size option) and then from inside iDVD click the Media Button and the Movies button to find the project under the iMovie star icon in the Media Browser window. Drag that project into your iDVD project and burn the disk.

  • Compressing and burning .dmg to DVD

Hi. I have a .dmg file that I want to burn to a DVD. The file is about 6.9 GB, too big for a normal DVD. I've tried everything I can find out to make this work, but without success. I've tried compressing the file (right click and compress, but the zip size remained the same size as the original). Disk utility won't even recognize the volume. Can anyone help?

    8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
    The DL is dual layer.
    Is your disc dual-layer?
Did you buy high quality discs as indicated by this tip*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/cdrfailure.html
Might you need to copy the contents of the DMG to a Disk Image formatted as a CD/DVD master disc image?  Disk Utility has that as an option to create images that are.

  • Burn Folder and Burning a CD/DVD

I put 50 Photos (Tiff & Jpg's) into the Burn Folder. Followed instructions to Burn these on to a disc. It said it could only Burn the first one. Any advice welcomed.

Well, since it's a general OS X question, the best place would probably be in the Using OS X Tiger forum, but since you have an intel imac (Thanks, Niel!) there's also a forum for Using DVDs and CDs with your Intel iMac.
Either forum gets a lot more traffic than the appleworks forum, which is for apple's old productivity suite that has been replaced by iWork.

  • Good software to make and burn movies to dvd using 10.8.2

10.8.2 does not support I DVD I am looking for a good software to make my own movies yet be simple to use and burn to DVDs. I'm a beginner and need help thanks

You can use iDVD with 10.8.2 - I am; it still works (although it is no longer included as it used to be). So, if you have a retail iLife 09 or 11, install it. If you don't, it is absolutely worth going to Amazon or ebay or some other resellers and buying a copy of the retail iLife 11 disk.

  • Error message - registry settings used by itunes drivers for importing and burning CD's & DVD's

I receive the following message when opening i tunes:
"The registry settings used by the itunes drivers for importing and burning CD's and DVD's are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall itunes." Then I select the OK option and itunes opens.
I have deleted itunes and then reinstalled and i get the same message.
How can I stop this message  when opening itunes?
    Please advise.

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)
iTunes for Windows: "Registry settings" warning when opening iTunes

  • ITunes says registry settings for importing and burning CDs or DVDs are missing.

i get a message after installing itunes 10.7 that registry settings are missing for importing and burning CD/DVDS. Says probably due to installing other burning sofware. Re-install ituenes.  I never installed anything between the older 10.6 and the new 10.7........just updated when it said new Apple software was available.  The update process seemed to delete the 10.6 install and then re-install a new version of itunes, 10.7.  Then the registry settings error message started coming up each time I start itunes. What's the proper way to re-install?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

  • Error message when burning to Sony DVD-r discs

Just bought 200 Sony DVD-R printable discs from Costco, and I am trying to burn a 15 minute short film in DVD studio pro. The DVD just spins in Formatting and I get this message:The recording device reported the media error: Unknown device error.
I have burned this same film many times with my Nexxtech DVD's and it works fine, but the Sony discs don't seem to work. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    D-

Try burning at the lowest possible speed (probably DVDx2) and see if they work.

  • Burning video to DVDs - what discs?

I just got my powerbook and have a lot of "Lost" episodes to move... both in AVI and iTunes format. What discs do I need, and what's the most efficient way to burn it so it'll read both on my computer and on a TV?

    Welcome to the Apple forums.
There's a current discussion about burning iTunes video to a DVD, see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=286906&tstart=0
On AVI's, you can use MPEG Streamclip (http://www.alfanet.it/squared5/mpegstreamclip.html) to convert them to digital video, then use DVD Imager (http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html) to create the DVD image for burning. Both programs are freeware. Or use a product like Toast.
We use TDK DVD's (have used both -R and +R) to burn DVD's that work on both computer and TV (was recently told to use -R for video, +R for data, however, have also seen recommendations of +R for video). They're available from our local Circuit City for $8 for 25, which seems to be about the going discounted rate. If you browse around the web, you'll find discussion on the quality of blank DVD's, their sources, what country they were manufactured in, etc. The TDK DVD's have consistently worked, and I can recommend them.

  • Superdrive: Cd reader and Burner works but DVD's won't read

    Hey, anyone have any ideas?
My CD burner and player work great, I burn off of it all the time. However if I try to insert a DVD it makes noises, like it's trying to read but spits it back out. I tried resenting it but nothing is working.
Anyone have any clue why one would work and the other wouldn't I thought they were one in the same?
    Thanks ANYTHING would be helpful

I am having the same issue and it does notappear to be a software issues unless it is a firmware one....
normal CDs enter the drive and mount just fine yet DVDs do not. The Dvds that I insert into the drive will not mount and the drive kicks them out a few seconds after I put them in. NOw this seems to only occor for movie DvDs, DvDs that have minor scratching, but are still readable in my MDD G4 desktop and certain commercial game disks.
Only 2 possibilities come to mind: 1, a firmware issue yet it is fully upgraded; 2, a physical issue with the drive and movie DvDs being a slightly different physically then other ones (this is not likely but it is the only thing I can come up with.
The discussion linked above does not pretain to this issue. as this is a more select issue that seems to be more hardware related than simple prefrences related.
