PE4 Resample Bug (Win XP)

Hello:
A few posts back it looked like a bug was found when resizing using percent and resample off (unchecked).
I really do not want to install the v5 trial version to check if this bug still exists. That's because it has been reported that v5 trial corupts certain features of PE4, even after uninstalling v5.
I like to ask a favor and hope someone can check out v5 resize and see if the bug is still there or been fixed. Here's what happens in v4, (make a note of the dimension sizes ex: 1600x1200). In the image size window, uncheck the Resample Image box. In Document Size, make sure percentage is picked. Change the percentage to 50%, click ok. The dimensions should stay the same, because resample was off. The bug, eventhough resample was off, resampled the imaged, in this case the dimensions changed to 800x600.
In v5, repeat the steps, if the dimensions changed, then the bug is still there, if the dimensions stayed the same, then it is fixed.
The link below, will take you to the related post I mentioned earlier.

Thank You,

Hi Colin:
Yes this can have an easy get around. But the point is, the Resample Image box is unchecked, and it's resampling the image. This misleads the users in thinking the image is not being resampled but it really is.
If Elements v4 was designed to have the Resample Image box checked automatically when the % size is used, and grayed out so this is the only choice. Then you would know it's being resampled. Case closed.
When you want an image resampled, you check the box (on), when you don't it's unchecked (off). And it's lying when % is used w/Resample Image box unchecked, (off).
Thanks for the replies...
Tony

  • Edit in Photoshop bug (Win XP)

I've had this same little problem, that's small but annoying, but only when I use Lightroom 2 (upgrading to 2.1 didn't; change anything) on Windows XP. I use windows at work, Mac OS 10.5 at home and it doesn't happen on the mac.
    What happens is this:
If I highlight an image and got to "Edit in Photoshop..." the image opens in PS just fine.
The problem comes when I save the image out as a new, separate file in a new location.
If I continue to work on that new file and do a simple save (not save as), it saves back to the original file (dscxxx-edit.psd), instead of the new file and location.
I have to do a "save as" and overwrite to get it to save to the current location. This gets quite annoying when dealing with dozens and dozens of images each and every day.
    What's the deal??

    Jao,
Nope. Everything is just as it was when I used LR 1.X together with CS3. I upgraded to LR 2.0 and CS4 about the same time so it could be an issue with either but I suspect it is in LR.
Here is another quirk I just discovered...
If I double click on the white square indicating the number of photos in the stack, both images (the PS edited & the original) show up in LRs compare view on my second monitor. The edited image still does not show in my Library screen even though it's on the second monitor in compare view. Strange.

  • Mail Unexpectedly Quits - with a twist

Hey all, been looking for answers to this problem, but not seeing any that fit the bill.
Been using this iMac without issue since december, and then the other day I finally let Software Update do its thing, since there were about 13 updates and I finally had the time.
Ever since, Mail quits within seconds of opening. I went and downloaded the 10.5.2 combo update and installed it again, but still the same thing happens. I tried holding down shift while opening mail, but it only makes the app stay open a bit longer. Then I trashed the .plist file, started all over, got it going, let it download mail, and poof. Unexpected quit. I'd done all the permissions checks, preferential treatment, cache cleaning, deleted a few other .plist files seen on other threads about this issue. Still quits. Went into another user login on this machine, set up my mail boxes, and mail works under other users without an issue.
I don't get it. Here's a paste of the report after Mail quits:

The last time I tried to create a new admin account and delete the one used to set the machine up, I had big problems afterwards, so I'd be hesitant to go that route.
    Eric

    I've tried everything mentioned here.
I've gone through the system.log files looking for anything out of the ordinary during or around the time of performing the software update. I don't see anything, like a file that could not be written, or like that. Not that I know exactly what I'm looking at.
I even tried removing mail, installing it again from the dvd, running it in Rosetta, you name it. Regardless of version, it still quits when viewed in my user account. I have not been in another very long, but for the few minutes I spent bopping around from message to message, Mail worked in other accounts.
Here's a weird thing that happened:
I tried holding down the shift button again, while opening Mail.
That makes it so Mail does not open into a mailbox full off messages. While it downloaded messages, I actually went in and created a note, and a to-do, and looked at the note. Prior to that there were no notes or to-dos. Then it was done downloading all 386 messages, and I was still sitting there with Mail open, only not currently viewing a mail box. So I waited. Then I held my breath and clicked on the mailbox.
The contents came up, and.... poof. Quit. Here's the log content:

Something's going on where it formulates the contents of the viewer or something. I wish I could figure this out... it's really bugging me. I cant stand inanimate objects getting the better of me. I consider it a challenge to get to the bottom of this. Much to the chagrin of my spouse and son who wonder just what I'm doing here this whole time.
I could just use Entourage. That works. But then this bug wins. Heh heh.

  • I enable Display PDF in browser but still opens in Reader

Our current client PC's are Windows XP 32-bit, IE 7, using Adobe X v.10.1.2. We have an application that opens PDF files. We have the parameter "Display PDF in browser" enabled and it opens in the browser as it should.
However, new PC's are built with Windows 7 63-bit, IE 8, using Adobe X v.10.1.2. Using the same application with the parameter "Display PDF in browser" enabled, it always asks if you want to open in Reader or save the file. That shouldn't happen. It does this whether the paramter is enabled or disabled, it also does this using 32bit IE 8 or 64bit.
Is this a Adobe bug, Win 7 bug, or how can we make it open in the browser? Using another browser is not an option. IE is the company standard.
    Thanks

Does it work correctly on "normal" web pages, e.g. the PDF links near the bottom of http://forums.adobe.com/community/adobe_reader_forums ?
In a 32-bit browser, the PDFs should open inside the browser.
With a 64-bit browser, the PDFs will open in an external Adobe Reader window.

  • Hal-flash to watch DRM-protected content in firefox

    Hi guys,
I'm facing a weird problem that I cannot find solution for.
I have followed wiki and installed hal-flash + udisks2 on my desktop PC since I wanted to watch some DRM-protected content on internet (person of interest to be precise). All worked great.
But then my wife, who also is running Arch on her laptop (samsung 900x series) wanted to watch the same content on it.
So I quickly ssh-ed to her laptop, installed exactly the same hal-flash and udisks2 + I also removed all the firefox cache - but no success, flash video that is playing nicely on my PC does not play on her laptop.
I checked all relevant software version (that is firefox, hal-flash, udisks2) - the same on both PC and laptop. To my simple understanding it should work on both computers...
I'm feeling a bit dumb because I told my wife using linux will be as easy as using windws and now it seems I cannot figure out something that seems to be a 'simple thing' from her point of view (obviously after reading wiki I know it's a bit more complex and in the same time interesting issue)...
So I humbly ask somebody to direct me what may be wrong here?

Ok, so I installed pipelight and also I enabled flash - however flash is not appearing on the list of plugins. So I removed my flashplugin (the standard one I installed when setting up firefox) - it seems firefox does not recognise that there is a plugin installed... Trilby, should flash appear on about:plugins page?
    --edit--
It seems browser should be closed when installing wine-silverlight. I uninstalled pipelight, closed the browser and installed again - now plugin appears however it's showing error:

  • Win 8.1 Start button and Charms randomly stops working BUG (workaround)

To anyone experiencing this, it is a bug in Win 8.1 which I can replicate at will.
Reinstalling your system as suggested by MS engineers will not fix this.
To force the bug to appear:
    1. Grab a desktop Icon (recycle bin, any shortcut) and move this up to the top left hand corner without letting go of the mouse button. Drop shortcut anywhere on desktop. Without an Icon the mouse pointer would initiate the recent apps.
    2. To check that the first step has worked, try and invoke charms by moving mouse to top right hand corner.  If Charms do not appear then the bug has been triggered.
    3. Now move mouse over start button (no click), move away then back again. Now the start button is locked.  If you unlock the taskbar you can move it to any other position (top, left or right) and the start button works.  Move taskbar back to the
bottom and the start button still does not work.  Only way to get it working again is to restart window explorer in task manager.
To avoid this happening all you need to do is disable recent apps corner.
    1. Right click desktop.
    2. Click Taskbar and Navigation
    3. Click Navigation tab in the properties window
    4. Uncheck "When I click the upper-left corner, switch between my recent tabs."
Now the bug cannot be triggered as above to make the start button stop working. You have to remove this feature which is pretty hopeless on a desktop anyway.  Its better than restarting Window explorer every time.
I can replicate this on any desktop or laptop, fresh install or old. Not sure about any touch screen machines. I can also trigger this in VMPlayer\Virtual Box and the Modern IE VM images that MS provide.
Now the MS engineers can replicate this on their machines, and maybe if we are lucky they will FIX it!!!!
MS please acknowledge that this is a bug.
Maybe the issue is due to the windows button not being redrawn on the screen once triggered as it still works when taskbar is moved (graphic card drivers). Could not find anything use full in the system logs.
Just noticed also that the charms also breaks if you drag an Icon up to the right hand corner. Once triggered Charms stops working, start button is not affected with the above work around configured.
MS please read this and reply.

suspect it is local to your environment.
Others seeing the same symptom.  Note that originally I was not using the
Top left hover for thumbnail  feature and then also claimed not to see it.
Oh.  And here is another factor that someone else is using as a workaround.  A link to the first thread I was thinking of can be found in this one

  • JButton & Win XP Look and Feel focus rectangle bug??

I searched the bug database but was unable to find any matches...
I have received a bug report from our users relating to mistakenly thinking a button has focus. In the XP LAF, when a button is a 'default' button, it has a blue rectancle drawn around it (which is correct). When you tab to that button however, there is no additional 'focus' rectangle to indicate that the button has focus. I tested this in native XP components and an additional rectancle IS drawn when the button gets focus (in addition to the blue rectangle). Shouldn't there be some sort of focus indicator in addition to the blue rectangle? I'm using JRE version 1.4.2_02.
    Thanks,
    Andy

    Hello Andy!
If the behavior of Win XP LAF is different from the native this is definitely a bug. It would be greate if you file a bug here

  • [Mac, Win] Fullscreen Bug?

    Hello!
Sorry for the lenghty post but maybe someone can confirm the problems I am seeing:
There seems to be a bug in both Windows and Mac versions of Photoshop CS6. The problem manifests itself MUCH clearer on a Windows machine, but is present to some degree on a Mac, too. The last version without it seems to be CS3 (OpenSth problem?).
Steps to reproduce: Any image open, full screen mode, all pannels UNDOCKED:
Correct behoviour: The image should not move while pressing Tab (ideally it shouldn't even redraw).
    On Windows:
With every press of a Tab key to show/hide the panels the image jumps up several pixels (sometimes also towards the center of the screen if the image is smaller than the screen area). Also (and MUCH more annoyingly) when the image is moved off center and is at certain magnification (the most reproducible seems to be 33%) after pressing Tab it jumps ALL THE WAY to the center of the screen.
    On Mac:
Similar things happen, but more rarely, and the image jumps by only ~1 pixel. (Easier to observe if you first zoom the image smoothly a bit by dragging with a zoom tool).
Also as it currently is (after CS3?) pressing F produces the same outcome as pressing Shift+F - there is no way of just showing the menu in Fullscreen mode and then quickly hiding it after use - one have to go through the whole screen mode cycle. Also on Windows there is no way to access the menu when hidden with Alt + Letter speedkey (Alt + F for file menu etc.). Both these functions worked perfectly well in CS3.
Both machines have latest Photoshop, OS updates and drivers (but old graphics cards: Win - Nvidia 9800GT, Mac Nvidia 880GT). I suspect these changes for the worse has been introduced while switching to OpenGL. Hopefully it is not necessary for it to be that way or maybe even it works as expected on newer graphics hardware - anyone care to check?
Last time similar problems occured was, if I remember correctly, in Photoshop 7 when Status Bar has been moved into an image window :-)
I know it may sound as if it's not important, but it certainly is annoying. It has nothing to do with not embracing change - I do find OpenWhatever to be a huge leap for Photoshop - even if I have to put up with a slower image redraw most of the time...
So, I hope, my rumblings aren't comparable to:
    http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/workflow.png
    Regards
    m.

    Thank you.
Unfortunately, I don't have Navigator open (opening it doesn't make any difference). The image jumps in fullscreen mode without the menu, because when I press Tab, the menu shows anyway and the image (incorrectly) moves down to accommodate it and then up again, after another Tab press.
The wholly unreasonable behaviour of image being centred with Tab pressing has no such explanation and is not happening on a Mac at all.
Your suggestion to use Shift F and then F works, but since Tab shows the menu anyway - it kind of doubles that functionality.
I just think that the old behaviour of being able to show just the menu, separately from the panels or access it with Alt + Letter keys was more convenient than current behaviour. The image always stayed exactly where it was - no need to redraw. And it NEVER jumped whole way to the center - which makes dealing with image corners extremely difficult.
I can understand that some of that may be the a requirement of using OpenGL on Windows, but I kind of doubt it.
    Regards
    m.

  • How to DELETE WIN XP Partition? ? Possible? Repair Permissions bug...

Apple store has a program that at the end of the day it restores the computer back to how it was fresh from the start, simply by rebooting. What program is that. That would be dope to have.
Anyway, how do you delete a WIN XP partition? I haven't installed windows yet, but just want to be sure that I can if I want to. Thanks.
PS> Has there been a fix to repair permissions taking so long bug?

The repair disk permissions in Leopard is not hanging or frozen, it just takes longer to finish repair disk permissions than in Tiger. Here's more info on this one:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6593656&#6593656
As for the merging and partitioning HD, I'm not certain if Boot Camp can create 3 partitions. So far I've only created 2. You can use the Disk Utility to create and merge multiple partitions but that will also erase the contents of the drive as well.

Flex 2.5.31 bug: As Regards Wine CVS Users: No Clear Downgrade Path: Please Advise

Search for flex with pacman yields 2.5.33-1 (current), search in AUR for flex finds nothing relevant.
Other less savory (and less repeatable) fixes aside, what is the proper "ArchLinux" way to resolve this issue?  To trace upstream a bit further, what is the proper "ArchLinux" way to install a particular Wine fork?

  • Possible code bug causing crash on Wine/Linux

As I am running Linux, I don't expect support as such but thought I would offer a possible contribution to the beta program as follows:
When starting Safari under Wine (an implementation of the Win32 API) on Linux, I get the following debug message:
    DIB_GetBitmapInfo (44): unknown/wrong size for header
What I understand this to mean is that the Windows function GetBitmapInfo is being passed a dodgy parameter.
This is followed by a crash for me, but I guess on Windows, is quietly ignored.
I have seen a report on CodeProject regarding an identical crash caused by a coder setting the biSize member of the bmiHeader (BITMAPHEADERINFO) element of a BITMAPINFO structure to the incorrect size. In the example given, it had been set to sizeof(BITMAPINFO) rather than sizeof(BITMAPINFOHEADER)
    e.g.
    bmpInfo.bmiHeader.biSize = sizeof (BITMAPINFO);
    instead of
    bmpInfo.bmiHeader.biSize = sizeof (BITMAPINFOHEADER);
For any devs. interested as to whether there may be a bug, the call stack generated by Wine, showing the offsets from the base address of coregraphics.dll (loaded at 0x6b000000) is as follows, with the crash actaully occurring at '=> 1'
    Backtrace:
    =>1 0x6b262e97 in coregraphics (+0x262e97) (0x0033ed38)

As I say, I'm not expecting any feedback on this - I'm just being neighbourly I also fully accept that I may be completely wrong in my assessment of the issue.

There was an even earlier build than the two mentioned.
Talk about "early revisions" I guess so, and it doesn't look like there will be a unified version tomorrow.
I recall AYM had a note about video performance and in that instance, the build on the DVD was never than what was on the hard drive and within a week or so disk drives carried the "new, improved" video on disk as well.
There may be other changes that go hand-in-hand other than build, too. Did they look at the Boot ROM and SMC Version of the systems?

  • XNET Resample fails, bug? (Signal Waveform)

    Hello,
    I'm using:
    XNET 1.7
    NI-DAQmx 9.7
    LabView 2011
cDAQ-9178 and module 9862, also tried cDAQ-9171 and module 9862 with same results.
I'm using the simple "CAN Signal Input Waveform.vi" to monitor some singnals from vehicle CAN bus (attached database).  When resampling at 100Hz the signal "Brake_pedal_SW" do not show any change (remains at 0 value) when the brake pedal is applied, instead "Brake_lights" signal changes normally, both signals shoud have the same value. Resampling at 1000Hz both signals remain to 0, and if I resample at 10Hz both signals seem to show the correct values. Similar behaviour happens with the other 2 channels.
Due to this behaviour I decided to record some data using "CAN Signal Input XY.vi" and plot it, everithing works fine so I don't see a reason why Signal Waveform is returning wrong values other than it is not doing well the resample.
As we have the original data from the "CAN Signal Input XY.vi" on the array control, how we can generate the same frame outputs, with the same timings to reproduce the problem?
Can any one explain that behaviour or it's a bug from the resampling?
    Regards,
    Marc
    Attachments:
    Original Data Plot.vi ‏104 KB
CAN Signal Input XY.vi ‏94 KB

I'm sad and disappointed because one week after my post and support request to NI (Reference#9023-GRQ 747) no one answered or contacted me.
After many tests I could reproduce the problem and the final conclusion is that "XNET Read (Signal Waveform).vi" doesn't work properly inside a timed loop. If you reproduce always the same data from one CAN port and read that data from another CAN port the read values are wrong and different every time. So data is not well resampled or whatever... is this a bug?
    To reproduce the problem:
You need 2 NI 9862 modules, I used 2 different chassis, the cDAQ-9171 to reproduce/generate the CAN data and the cDAQ-9178 to read it.
You need to connect them properly one to each other and power them.
    1. Open the vi attached call "CAN Signal Input Waveform_Timed.vi"
    2. Select your input interface, database "Database_red.xml" and the 4 signals: Brake_lights, Brake_pedal_SW, Gear and Retarder_position
    3. Run it to start the acquisition
    4. Open the vi attached call "CAN Signal Input Waveform_Timed.vi"
    5. Open the vi "Reproduce Output.vi"
    6. Select your output interface
    7. Run it to generate the otput
    8. When vi  "Reproduce Output.vi" finishes (arround 2 minutes) stop the vi  "CAN Signal Input Waveform_Timed.vi" using the stop button.
Now you can compare the output graph with the one from my first post and see the diferences. Every time you reproduce the data the readins are diferent.
Now if you repeat the proces but using the vi call "CAN Signal Input Waveform" no timed loop used, the readings seem to be good.
Unfortunately I use timed loops in my application so it is a BIG problem !!!
See below picture of a bad readings, Brake_lights and Brake_pedal_SW signals should be equal and are different.
Hope someone can answer to this post, specially from NI to work around this.
    Regards,
    Marc.

  • [CS4 Win] Weird 'Bug' giving overset text in duplicate object - stumped!

    Hi all,
I am experiencing a perculiar 'bug' in InDesign CS4 (Windows).
I have a triangular text frame rotated by 45° with a 0.2mm inset.
This frame contains two words who's point size is just big enough to fit the text in the frame without it oversetting.
The leading is set to 100% of the point size.
When I duplicate the text frame either with the Duplicate command, cut 'n' paste or alt dragging, the new text frame is overset!
I cannot find any difference between the two objects what so ever.
If, in the original text frame, I change the text frame options inset to 0 and then back to the original 0.2 mm, I get overset!
Scaling the original up by any amount also causes overset, as does increasing the height of the frame and then returning it to its original height.
I have tried exporting as a snippet but the new placed text frame oversets.
Does anyone have any idea might be causing this behaviour.
It doesn't do it in CS3 or in CS5.
I have included a link to an example file, you will need to have the same font (HelveticaNeueLTPro-BlkCn) to see the problem.
I can't upload this for obvious copyright reasons - sorry.
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7307068/flashes.indd
    Thanks for ANY input.
    Simon Kemp.

    Hi Simon.
My initial reaction was it might have to do with the third party plugins, but I exported to .inx to strip them out, and then NONE of the frames had both words. I also thought it might be that the the frame isn't a right triangle and the slight angles on the vertical and horizontal might be a problem, but I made a new frame with the same hypotenuse but the correct legs, and that didn't make a difference, either. (I made it by drawing a rectangular frame exactly half as high as it was wide, adding a point at the center of the top path segment with the pen, then deleted the two upper corner points).
I have to say my conclusion is that the problem here is there really isn't enough room in the frame for both words with that inset. Adding 3% to the size of the frame (by clicking the chainlink to link changes to height and width, then typing +3% after the height [adding in the scale fields scales the type, too, so don't do it there] and pressing Enter) brings both words into view.
Curiously, When I opened the file in CS5, the words fit without messing around. Cutting and pasting the frames with overset made both words appear. This could be due to the new way ID deals with text in non-rectangular shapes. When I opened the .inx file without the plugin information in CS5 all the text was visible in all frames. I think the only reason the text ever fit in the original CS4 file might have to do with one of the plugins, but that's pure speculation. I don't think there's any sort of bug here.

    1. Open a new document, any size you want, any bit mode you want
    2. Click on the Text tool and write something
    3. Add a new layer mask do the text layer and fill it black or something else. Just something you can visualize if you'd took it off.
    4. Unblock the layer mask from the layer so you can move tha layer mask separate from the text
    5. Go to your history pannel and click "Create new document from current state"
Result: You'll notice that the layer mask is gone from your text, even though it had something in it.
This only seems to happen with text layers
Expected Result: Everything should stay exactly the same, as it's a duplicate from the current state.
