  • Can I transfer PE5 to a larger hard drive without having to reinstall?

Hi I'm a new member of this forum and would like some advice on some things that I cannot find in the help sections, the Adobe website or the Forum.
My hard drive was too small (80GB) for all my photos and PE5 with all of the other programs I have on it so I have installed an additional drive (360GB).  I am running XP Professional. Can anyone please tell me if I can migrate the PE5 and all the photos etc to the new drive WITHOUT having to uninstall and reinstall on the new drive? The computer is an AMD 2.7GHZ Athlon dual core with 3.25GB free memory.
As an additional question,  I save all my photos that I have modified in a folder system that I have been using since long before I had PE5. I like this system because it works for me. However, when I save photos PE5 automatically saves them in the Organizer as well as the folder I tell it to. This is duplicating the amount of disc space that is being used. Can someone please tell me how to switch the automatic "Save in Organizer" off?
    Many thanks Dr. How.

First, you don't need to move PSE itself ... just the photos. So no need to uninstall.
In PSE5, switch to Folder Location View (Alt-Ctrl-3), and move your folders that contain your photos to the new drive by dragging and dropping the folders in the folder browser that appears. For this to work, you may need to put a dummy photo on the new hard disk, and then import it into PSE.
Do not move your photos in Windows. Let me say that again. Do not move your photos in Windows.
Finally, your photos are not in the Organizer. By importing photos into the Organizer, you have not duplicated things using up twice as much disk space. The PSE Organizer contains only pointers to your photos, and a small thumbnail that it displays for you.

  • Sony raw files will not open in PE5.  Help!

I have a Sony alpha 350 DSLR.  When I shoot raw files (.ARW), Photoshop Elelements will not open them.  I get a message that says it's the wrong kind of file.  The Adobe plug-in that came with the camera's software does not work.  I downloaded the most recent Camera Raw plug-in for PE5 from Adobe (4.5), and it does not work.  Adobe customer support told me they no longer service PE5, and sent me to this forum.
How can I get PE5 to open Sony raw files?

Thanks for the quick response.   In Photoshop Elements 5.0, when I click on
the raw file stored on my hard drive, a small message box comes up with a
white X in a red circle and the message "Cannot open
because it is the wrong type of file."
I am not sure if I installed the plug-in correctly.  There were no
directions except how to unzip it and save it to my hard drive.  The icon
shows a blue electrical plug and reads " Camera Raw .8bi, 8BI File, 10,634
KB"  When I click on it, it opens Photoshop Elements, but  it still gives me
the error message when I try to open a raw file.

  • PE5 add-in for Vista Media Center

I upgraded from PE$ -> 5 a while ago and noticed that I lost the media center icon for photoshop elements.
How do I get this to work with PE5? I see the Digital Home files and have done a uninstall and re-install of the app already..
    Thanks

PSE 5 does work under Vista Home Premium.
What is the media center icon?

  • Frustrating that I can clean up noise better in PE5 with a plugin than in LR..

I like to avoid flash with faces as much as I can so I tend to use high ISO fairly often with fast lenses.
One particular raw file I was having trouble with in PE5 so I added Neat Image as a plug in several months ago and to my amazement the image began to look like a 100 ISO image.
Last night I decided to see if I could replicate it in LightRoom. I worked on it for hours and could not do so using the same monitor and printer I used to create it in PE5 plus NI.
I even tried editing the image through LR to PE5 as a .tif and back again using NI while in PE5. Awful!
LR is 16 bit minimum and PE5 only works with 8 bit....is this the problem in all probability with this situation, and would CS3+LR give me a one stop solution once and for all? I don't do anything with pictures other than take them, "develop them", store them, and occasionally print one for a family member. Most of the CS products I'd never use and I've avoided putting out that much cash for items I'd rarely or never use, but the noise remover in LR is glaringly weak it appears.
As bizarre as this seems I'm finding that in some cases I'd be better off to develop in PE5 with some plug-ins and catalog with LR. I can't believe I'm typing that, but several files seem to dictate that to me.
Any comments would be appreciated, especially if it comes from developers who hint that noise problem enhancements are on the way.

".just open LR to the same popular plug ins that Adobe has allowed in other products and it would be fine"
Yeah, well, that's a bit of a problem, don't ya know. Lightroom is a "parametric image editor", meaning it doesn't edit "pixels" only parameters that WILL be applied upon export or printing. So, Photoshop "plug-in filters" simply can't be incorporated-not in the manner people seem to understand plug-ins. There aren't any "pixels" in Lightroom to operate on-just parameters...
This is an entirely new approach to image editing-well, kinda...there was an old application called Live Picture that worked in a slightly similar manner and while LP eventually got "plug-ins" to work, it required rendering, plug-in application and re-editing back in LP. Which kinda defeated the purpose.
When Lightroom gets an SDK (coming eventually) there will be an ability for third parties to write "modules" to do things in Lightroom. But that's gonna take some time. In the meantime, if ya just gotta use a 3rd party plug-in, then there's really no option besides the pixel edit in Photoshop (or Elements).

  • Cant save as in PE5

I have used PE5 for last year . Now when I try to save  a modified file I get error message "Could not complete your request because of a programme error"  I hve reinstalled PE5 and still have the same problem

Thanks, John, I'll try both and let you know. Won't be until later.
The condition was I was in PSE, selected Edit|Edit with Photoshop, which opened CS4. I tried "save as" (or "save" when I was done editing in CS4, both ways it caused the problem). CS4 would go through the steps leading up to saving a jpg and then give the error message "Cannot save file because there was a program error". When this happened, it seems as though it actually did save, but when you go back to PSE it continously shows the file broken AND waiting for external editor. The only way to get out of that was to close down PSE, ignoring warnings about losing a file that is being edited in an external editor, starting PSE back up and then reconnecting the broken file that appears when starting, to the one that CS4 saved.
By they way, if I shut down PSE before saving the edited file in CS4, I don't get the error message.
I'll try your suggestion about redoing the preferences, although both PSE and CS4 were new installations.
Another thing I might try is to not assign a drive letter to the NAS folder, since I seem to remember Adobe complaining about that in the past. I'll just point directly to the share name.

  • PE5 + RAW + EOS 400

    Hi
    thx
    Ingolf

According to this link, the EOS 760 is supported by Elements 13 if you upgrade to ACR9 (menu Help/Updates).

  • How to add explorer.exe to windows pe5.1?

    I want to make a 64bit windows PE5.1 system,
I download window adk to create a bootable UFD ,
my question is how to add 64bit explorer.exe of windows 8 to this PE5.1 system, so that it can  show a GUI interface but not a cmdline when boot.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Some 3 third party software might achieve this, but apologize that we don't support this.
Regarding to GUI APP, we need to use a cmdline to launch the APP, not click a icon to launch the app, we don't have GUI WinPE because we're unable to make Win PE like a normal operation system (such as Windows 7)via offical way, it's command line
environment, anyway, glad to know that you've found an alternative way to solve this issue.

  • Installing PE9 over PE5

I am currently running PE5 and have just bought PE9 (full, not an upgrade). I wish to retain all the data and tags in my Organiser. If I install PE9, will it recognise that 5 is there and update it with PE9 and retain the organiser and tags, or will PE9 install as a separate entity?
Would welcome advice on the best strategy. At the end of the day I only require PE9 with all my tags.
    Thanks in advance
    Jon

If I install PE9, will it recognise that 5 is there and update it with PE9 and retain the organiser and tags
    Yes, it should
or will PE9 install as a separate entity?
PSE9 is a separate program. It will find your PSE5 catalog and tags and make use of them
Would welcome advice on the best strategy.
Install PSE9. Run PSE9. It shouldn't be any more complicated than that.

  • CR2 in PE5

how do i open canon raw CR2 in elements 5?
    http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/
    this site says only 8,7,6,4,3
I would copy it here but this forum does not like copy and paste
    thanks all

Depending on your camera model, you might be able to open your CR2 by downloading and installing Adobe Camera Raw 4.6, which is the last version that work with PSE5. If your camera is too new and will not work with ACR 4.6, then you would need to download and install both ACR 4.6 and the DNG converter (which does indeed work with ACR 4.6, which works with PSE5)

  • Upgrading from PE4 to PE5

I have Photoshop Elements 4, and I'd like to upgrade to Photoshop Elements 5. Adobe's site lists the upgrade price as $69.99. Can you do better than that?

    Yes,
Amazon is offering $85, and then a $20 rebate, so you can get it for $65
when all is said and done. You might want to wait until the day after
Thanksgiving. CompUSA/Best Buy/Circuit City and other Big Box stores
often offer GREAT deals that day. Last year I got PSE 4.0 for $50 after
    rebates by waiting until then.

  • File-- Burn why not in PE5 ?

Where oh where is the burn to cd command, that even the help within the program it says it is under File-->Burn in PE 5. Did Adobe forget something big here?
If it is imbedded somewhere, where is it hiding?
    Thank you for your help.

I have a directly related question. I thought I read that when you do burn a CD/DVD, that PSE puts an icon (on the preview?) of a disc, so you know that particular image or images, has been backed up.
After I did a burn, I never saw the icons. I do the burns so I can make room on my photo drive, but I can't tell you if I copied or moved them through the burn.
Can you tell me whether and how the backup icons work?

  • Net Use give error 67 when trying to mount network share in Windows PE

I am trying to deploy Windows 7 Pro by PXE booting Windows PE5 and applying a WIM file over a network share.  The problem that I am running into is that I get an system error 67.  I can ping the server with the network share with both the IP
and the FQDN, but whether I use the machine name OR the IP I get a system error 67.  I verified that the account that I am using to connect has permissions, but even excluding the user name and waiting for it to prompt me for a user name gives the same
error.  Any idea what is going on?

  • Where can i download an install file for Photoshop Elements 5

So, PE5 came with my Sony Vaio (Vista) on a recovery DVD. my computer has since died and i bought a new one running window 8.1, with no optical drive.
    1. I am having huge difficulty finding a download file for PE5, does anyone know where i can find one?
    or
    2. If i bought an external DVD optical drive, could i even run restore for that program due to windows changes?
    thanks!

    1. There is no download available for PSE5.  The oldest version available is 7.
    2.  If you mean you are wondering if the software is compatible with Windows 8, I would tend to think not.  Rather than buying an external drive you could consider buying the latest version of PSE instead.
