PE7 crashing with new NVidia Drivers
Just a note, I updated to the NVidia 191.xx series driver, from the 190.xx version, on my notebook and my desktop PC. Both crashed whenever I used the scrollbar to scroll down the effects or transitions area. I went back to the 190 series and it's fine again.
Just a note the latest 191.xx series drivers from NVidia caused PE7 to become unstable on both my PCs, both running 64 bit Vista.

JRE 1.3.1_02 does not work with new Nvidia drivers - HELP!
I am a user and not a developer but this problem really does bite the big one. I have had installed JRE 1.3.1 and have used it to run LimeWire file sharing program for a long time (LimeWire is a java program from www.limewire.com) and also use it to see java applets on web pages in IE 6.
I have since upgraded my Nvidia video drivers to version 2.8.3.2 which is the latest official release at this time from Nvidia. Since doing this I have no java at all anymore. Limewire refuses to run at all and there is an error report generated in it's resident directory. If I go to http://java.sun.com, IE hangs and then dissappears, leaving a bug report on my desktop. It seems that JRE does not like the new NT OpenGL dll at all in the new Nvidia drivers and will not run at all. The dll that causes the problem is:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvoglnt.dll
I upgraded JRE to version 1.3.1_02 because Sun says this is the latest version and runs on XP which is what I have. Still java does not run at all anymore and I get the same bug reports. Has anyone found a workaround for this problem? This really stinks because now I cannot use LimeWire at all and if any web page has java on it, it dissappears right away and there is no more browser on my desktop. The only way I can even visit http://java.sun.com is if I use a Java blocking applet to filter out java applets on web pages.
Please address this issue in JRE development and release a patch for it or a workaround.

I stumbled in here looking for help, I am a PC user,
not a coder or developer (How sad. <g>). I checked for
updates to the Nvidia driver (none), Windows XP (not
at this time), and DirectX 8.1 (not at this time,
these come on the XP updates page so far as I know.)
Not too suprising...
I have no idea of how to implement your suggestion on
how to disable the JMV use of DirectX overal in my XP
envornment. I guess that using Internet Explorer 6 to
see web pages with Java on them are pretty much out of
the question for now but I would be happy as a clam if
I could get my LimeWire application going again.
LimeWire is called via a desktop or Start menu
shortcut in this fashion:
Target Box: C:\WINDOWS\system32\javaw.exe -cp .
RunLime
Start In (directory): "C:\Program Files\LimeWire 1.7"
So it appears that java is called via the javaw.exe
file and passes a cp argument (whatever that is), then
there is a period separator (dunno why) and then the
"RunLime" statement that calls up the LimeWire
program.to implement the suggestion, simply add -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true between "javaw.exe" and "-cp" separating it from them by a space on each side. Your result should look something like this:
c:\windows\system32\javaw.exe -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true -cp . RunLime

or DirectX being called to play for this application
since it is basicly a file manager that shares.
Nothing fancy about it.It's not the application choosing to do this, but Java itself. Java GUI applications specifically those who use the Swing GUI classes (like LimeWire, if I recall) automatically leverage DirectX. This is really valuable for Swing applications since they emulate Windows (or Mac or Motif) GUI widgets rather than using them, making fast access to display buffers important to ensure best performance.

[GeForce 6] problems overclocking my NX6800GT with newer nvidia drivers
Hiya guys,
JUst wondering if anyone else is having issues oc,ing there 6800gt with the newer nvidia drivers?any driver newer than the 71.25 version causes freezes and corruption and does not matter what speed its at even does it at 360 1050 but at default 350 1000 everything is fine.
BUt oc,ing with the msi 71.25 and below drivers it runs without error at 400 1100 temps are at 52c load 45idle,
Have installed fresh winXP pro,thought it may have been a power problem so i ripped out my 420w thermaltake psu and replaced it with a nice new Enermax noisetaker 485w psu with dual 12v:18a rails still no go,have tried every driver availible only drivers 71.25 and below will oc,all driver up to 76.50 will not,also have tried coolbits,rivatuner,powerstrip etc..and still no go.
Has anyone come accross this?? feel free to share.....

I have been up and down the street with my MSI 6800GTs (in SLi) and they do not OC worth a damn... I am pretty bummed out due to the money, time, blood, sweat, and tears I have shovled into this rig and I only get stock... essentially... I have tried all the OC'ing utilities, different power supplies, volt modding... and I think it's got to be some bios setting or maybe the one piece GPU memory cooler design... the GPU and memory both heating this thing... I don't think it works that well... honestly... I have been around the net, on many forums... and the only peeps who have /any/ luck with OC'ing these MSI 6800GTs are water cooled... anyways... I have spent soooo much time on this and for that reason alone I doubt I will be buying MSI products in the future, but I would still like to find a solution which allows me to push my $900 worth of video cards to ultra speeds. I am really considering going with water cooling... but I really don't want to deal with the hassles of it right now... what I would really like to find or buy are some 6800 Ultras reference design coolers to install on my GTs... I think a lot of this inabillty to OC well is heat related... I know I can get 10mhz more out of my cards when my room is cool.... I have a LOT of air on these cards... and good ventilation... I have my system stats in another post on this forum entitled "nx6800GT OC issues in SLi" or something like that. Good luck man, and I will let you know if I find a solution for this.

Limited to one display mode with new nvidia drivers
I have a problem with nvidia drivers after 8178
I can get any display mode to work as long as i specify only one mode.
If i enter more modes in my xorg.conf, it will ignore all those modes and revert back to nvidia-auto-select (wich is 1024x768 in my case)
Anyway, i'm not able to change resolutions using xrandr for example. I need this for some applications that require to run in a different display mode ( old windows games i run using wine for example)
When i run X -logverbose 5 it becomes clear that all my monitor's supported modes are in the display pool.
I have also put in gtp generated modelines for all the modes i might need.
I really need a solution to this as i will probably no longer be able to use 8178 when xorg7.1 hits current.

Overscan missing from new Nvidia Drivers - Mac MIni 2010
So I was able to install new Nvidia drivers on my Mac mini 2010, however, there are no overscan options.. and my tv is connected via HDMI. Is there any workaround for this?
The final version of Appleworks 6 does in fact work on the Intel Mini under Leopard -- but Apple doesn't support it, nor ship it with the new Minis.

There is no office suite that is directly compatible with Appleworks files, but if you install AppleWorks 6 on your Mini, you could export files in formats that other office programs can read. -
PE7 crashes with ad2mpgvdec.dll error
The previous thread on this topic doesn't seem to match my problem. I am wondering if anyone has any other ideas or if its time to contact support.
PE7 (downloaded) on Vista32 (UAC disabled)
Program installed error-free, starts ok.
I start a new project, import .VOB files from any dvd (homemade) - I have tried multiple dvd's so I don't think its the disks. Though they were all created by the same recorder.
The .VOB files can be double-clicked on in the organizer window and will play, however when I drag one down to the timeline PE7 crashes with the error:

Based on the other thread, I'm guessing it is some kind of codec configuration problem but i don't know how to resolve it. Any help would be appreciated.
MarkVOB's are basically Mpeg and this compressed format has a tendency to not play nice with PE.
This is more often the case with VOB's after the first, unless there are Subtitles. The first VOB can contain a bit more, and this is often where the problems come in. The most often encountered "Object" contained is the Menuing for the DVD. The reason that all Menu Assets cannot exceed the 1GB limit for the entire DVD-Video is because the Menus cannot span more than one VOB and VOB's are limited to ~ 1GB. If the Menus are created by an authoring program that produces DVD-Videos that are 100% DVD-spec. compliant, then programs like PE and PrPro CS4.1 can usually strip out the Menus and work with the remaining MPEG-2 file in that VOB. Now, remember that the Menuing structure can occupy the entire first VOB, so there might not be any MPEG-2 in there, from the movie. Because a VOB is a Video Object file, it can contain a lot more than just an MPEG-2, and often does.
I strongly agree that MPEG-2 is tough to edit. First, all frames are not included in them. The NLE must create all the frames, so one can edit. The editor can do this conversion outside of the NLE, as you instruct. I find this to be the best way, so that my NLE is only working with DV-AVI Type II files, for SD material.
One common problem, when working with MPEG-2 files is that they often exhibit OOS (Out Of Sync) issues.A good conversion program will likely, though not always, solve those issues.
If one is working on outputting a DVD from any kind of recorder, the first thing that I would suggest is to make sure that there are no Menus, if at all possible. Most recorders will still write a null Menu to the disc, and this will likely mean that the first VOB will not work properly in the NLE. Try to get a disc without any form of Menu, and you might get lucky. This will depend on the exact way that these devices create that first VOB.

Blank screen with proprietary nvidia drivers [SOLVED]
I've just installed arch on a new computer, and have encountered an issue- I can't get it running with the proprietary drivers, just nouveau, which is quite the handicap on a GeForce 660.
I used the beginner's guide since my last fresh install was using the arch installation framework. Everything went more or less smoothly, and I booted in to a working system- indeed, I can still boot into it just fine if I chroot in with my install media and swap back to nouveau. If I don't, I get the typical udev boot messages and all, and then it blanks out instead of going to the login prompt. It also does this if I uninstall both nvidia and nouveau drivers.
I've looked at some threads over this, and none of them seemed to apply. I've tried both current and 304 drivers, regenerated initramfs, and blacklisted nouveau.
One last bit of information that may or may not be relevant: at least one of the threads mentioned these issues being related to GRUB, while I'm booting straight from UEFI using efibootmgr- not sure if that could be related in any way.

Premiere Elements 9 crashes with multiple NVIDIA graphics cards under Windows 7
I've just installed Premiere Elements 9 and found that it will not run at all with multiple NVIDIA graphics cards active under Windows 7. Per all the other discussions, I updated the NVIDIA drivers and Quicktime support to the latest versions. (NVIDIA version 260.99). I have both a 9400 GT and an 8400 GS installed, to support multiple monitors. They both use the same driver. The PRE 9 organizer will run, but as soon as I create or load a project it quickly crashes.
On a long shot I disabled the 8400 GS card in the Device Manager and now I can run PRE 9. Of course this means giving up one of my monitors. Any other ideas?Over in the Premiere Pro area (or maybe it was in the Hardware section... didn't pay a lot of attention 'cause it really didn't matter to me) I read a message about using two nVidia cards with no problems (other than no dual-card SLI support)

And, of course, PPro is completely different code, so PreEl may simply not work with two nVidia cards -
Bridge CS4 crashes with last Nvidia driver (195.62)

This message because since november I have crashes with Blue Screnn of the Death when I used Bridge CS4, even when no other programs running on my PC.
Or my computer became veru slow when I open Bridge...

I tried many and many things (uninstall and reinstall Photoshop, change preferences of Photoshop, Bridge, change memory in Windows...) and Bridge always crashes after some minutes of use.

Yesterday, in the "Event viewer", in "system", I had the message : "the driver nv_disp of the peripherical display \Device\Video0 remained blocked in an infinite curl. It points out a problem with the material or with the driver of the material programming the equipment in the wrong manner"
So I went to a problem with the graphic card.
I found the solution on a forum about Nvidia : "...the problem is that after driver 195.62, sometimes Blue Screen of the Death happens. This crashes happens everytime I close Adobe Bridge, and also in some other occasions too. With the old driver (190.38), dosn't BSOD. Will be great if NVIDIA told it at 195.62 releases, and fix it if possible..."
In fact, I uploaded my GeForce 9500 driver version 6.14.11.7519 to 6.14.11.9562 in november...
I come back to my old driver and have no more problem with Bridge CS4...Well I have a 9600GT and at the moment I have the v191.07 installed but on checking the Nvidia site today I saw this

Well have tried it and it seems to cure the problem. Opened Bridge and Photoshop CS5 several times, went through hundreds of photo albums, trying to make Bridge crash but it just wouldn't... So for now I'd have to say it works great. -
Older Mobo/Newer Nvidia Drivers
Having some weird issues with the newest nvidia ethernet driver (67.89), here is my system specs on this 2+ year old system:
MSI P6N Plat (BIOS 1.7)
Q6600@stock speed
4gig RAM@800mhz
Windows XP Pro 32bit SP3
I decided to upgrade all the nforce drivers to the latest, and after the 15.25 installer removed the nforce ethernet, it rebooted and
continued the install with the newest drivers. Now I usually set the network connection to show when it's connected in the taskbar. When the computer boots into windows with the new driver, this icon doesn't pop up, and when I try to load a web browser, it acts as if
there is no connection. As soon as I open up the Network Connections or device manager areas, the icon will pop up and I can then connect. I have never had this much of a delay in loading this driver at bootup. If I sit at the desktop and do nothing, the icon/connection never shows up.
So I went back to the MSI site, and I see they currently list an older version of the nforce drivers for this board still, so I downloaded those, and only chose to install the ethernet driver (67.15). Now I'm back to having my adapter/connection load up right away, but this is with a mismatch of nvidia drivers. I'm just wondering if anyone else has come across this with the new drivers, or doesn't have these issues with the new nvidia driver. It may work better with a fresh OS install, but since I got it working the way it was, I'd rather not do a reinstall just for the new driver. I'm not having any other issues with the system.Yes, I was hoping not to break anything, but the risk was low (lower than a BIOS update for sure). Usually when issues do arise, the first thing someone asks is "Do you have the latest drivers?". While nothing was broke, my main hope was for slightly better performance than before, which we are all trying to get out of our rigs.
I was wondering if anyone here with the same motherboard might have run into this too. I guess I'm more worried I will end up doing a fresh reinstall one day a few years from now and only have access to the latest drivers, and wonder what the issue is. I'll probably be installing a different OS at that time anyways. -

The story from my view is that the kde4 developers make a intensive use of a functionality which has never been used before in this way under linux and which was no problem for the original xorg drivers. I don't know what you works but if i would be the supervisor of the linux developers from nvidia than i would say that they have to test the driver even for the newest kernel and the newest xorg version but don't take a look for every beta or preview version of other applications which includes kde or gnome too. Employees don't works for nothing and so you have even to decide what you will do with your non-endless manpower. And if you look in the forum (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=14) you will see that nvidia have recognized the problem, works on it and have a new beta driver with a better support for this problem. So i'm a little bit surprised that people have impatience for at example that the kdepim suite 4.1 don't use the new akonadi framework but have no impatience to wait for a new stable nvidia driver under kde4. And still again, we speaks about the first "ready to use" version of kde4 which was released since a couple of days and not years. But this be only my 2c.
oh so you mean to say release a powerful product, i mean tout it as powerful with all the features and then dont release good enough drivers for it for months, maybe you are happy with that equation.
The expectation is to get what you paid for I am not a open source zealot, for all I care Nvidia can keep their source closed, but I am unwilling to wait for months to get the FULL functionality from my card when it is worth half its price. What is so crazy about asking for accountability from a corporations...is it so hard to fathom?
Oh yes I will keep pointing it out till I wish or till my card becomes OLD and when I have to buy a new one I will take this into account. As some would say oh Nvidia doesnt have to care about all this bitching they don't have to care about linux etc etc. I am speaking for myself I may be insignificant for nVidia but I am not happy.

Blank screen with new NVIDIA driver (256......)

A while ago I updated my arch system (pacman -Syu, I read the site beforehand), it was working beautifully before I did so. After I updated and rebooted, my computer turned on and gave me a completely black screen after showing a power saving message. After this, I tried reinstalling drivers, nvidia-xconfig, looking at various logs and dmesg output but nothing helped. I checked IRC and no-one had a clue.
I then decided to do a reinstall, thinking that one of my config files must be dead or something, and I backup my home folder regularly anyway. I did a regular install (from internet), got all my config files sorted out then rebooted. Same power saving message. What do I do?Try setting your refresh rate manually. I generated that with the nvidia-settings utility. That's usually a safe refresh rate to use, but I can't tell what the supported rates are for you monitor. On another note, your 20-nvidia.conf is fine. Mine is only two lines longer because I enable SLI and manual fan speed control. -
Solved flicker problem with newer fglrx drivers
This has been annoying me since the move from 8.29 to 8.30: I have an integrated Xpress 200 on my laptop, and newer proprietary drivers caused the screen to flicker. This has caused me to stick with the older drivers, which restricted upgrades to X.org and the kernel. I was misled by some posts on the Internet to believe that this was the result of using custom modelines.
I have finally solved the problem yesterday. I am posting my findings in case anyone else has been suffering from the same behaviour.
The newer drivers come with an ACPI script, installed under /etc/acpi. The script is invoked every minute and inspects the current power status (i.e., A/C or battery). It then invokes
aticonfig --set-powermode=[MODE]
to adjust the driver to the new settings. Each time this command is executed, it causes the screen to flicker.
Obviously, there is no need to run the script if the power mode has not changed since the last call. I have therefore modified the script to first check the current driver power mode, and execute the mode command only if a new setting is required.
I hope this helps someone.I need my hand held a bit here...
this seems to be the problem I'm having, ie the ac/battery event being called too frequently, but have no idea how to edit the script. I'm on an asus w3n, will it help to replace apci with asus-laptop and apcid daemon...or just add those and leave acpi daemon?

Random crashes with new 120gb classic
Is anyone experiencing random crashes with the new iPod classic 120gb units?
Every so often my unit just locks up and shows the Apple screen, only the screen is drawn in what looks like 4 colour mode, and badly drawn at that, requiring a hard reboot of the iPod to resume use (which sadly resets my smart playlists/playcounts by the looks of it).
This sounds like the problems that plaged the earlier 160gb models, so I changed my settings to not include album art which I've read circumvents the problem, and this seemed fine for a few days but I just had another lock up so maybe not.
MarkMy new 120gb classic survived a 7 hour bus ride on Saturday without crashing once, however I was watching videos for most of the trip.
Over the weekend away I was using my small sound dock and again, no crashes what so ever.
After picking up my car from the workshop (the reason for the trip away) I plugged the classic into my Alpine IDA-X100 stereo (first time using the USB cable on the X100, as opposed to the older style connector) and no crashes at all during a 6 hour drive home.
And yet - after an hour of using the classic in the office with just headphones I've just had a crash.
This confuses me further - if it was firmware I'd have thought I'd have had crashes when using the sound dock, or car as well.
Have any of you who are also having crashes/skips seen this behaviour? -
Mediasource now crashes with new version. CTCMS err
I have been using Mediasource for months with my Zen Xtra 40gb. No problems.
I just got a Muvo TX FM and installed the newer version of Mediasource. Now I can't rip CD's.
Whenever I try to rip Mediasource crashes with a "CTCMS" error. It does read disk for CDDB info.
And it does it for Zen or Muvo. It's the Mediasource program, not the devices. I use WIN98SE.Fredpb
Have you try to uninstall and reinstall MediaSource again?
I would suggest that you uninstall all the MediaSource application and then download the MediaSource from the website for installation.

Go to Zen Xtra product listing and download the driver, MediaSource application and Nomad Pack.
Remember to install in the order as above also.
After you have completed that, test the Zen Xtra and see if it works with the application. If all is well, go to the website again and select MuVo TX FM product listing. This time, you will only need to download the Nomad Pack for the MuVo. Install the Nomad Pack and your MuVo TX FM should work with the MediaSource.

Now that I installed Firefox,will I be able to download or watch a hole video?
If I try to watch or download a video it works for 15sec to 30sec an stops. I wait for 2min-5min or up to 45 min it Start's again. It shuts down when texting on Web browser or phone.
