PE7 HDV Preset for 24FPS

In PE7, what is the best preset for editng footage shot in HDV, 24 FPS? I used the existing HDV preset at 30 frames, but when I bring the footage to the timeline, I need to render it, and it lags even after rendering. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Stan

Hi Steve, yes, miniDV tape it is. I am shooting on a Canon XH-A1. My camera preset is HDV-24fps. I usually always shoot 60i with this cam. But I thought I would try the 24 setting. It looks fabulous. BTW, I rendered it out to a .wmv 720P file and it plays perfectly and looks awesome. But I worry about doing more in 24 because of the way my PE7 handles it.
Thanks, Stan

  • Unsuccessful install of Canon HDV presets

I'm new to HD editing and PRE so apologies if this is not entirely clear. I've been reading here for days and now I'm more confused than ever.
I have a Canon HF S20/AVCHD and I have some clips shot in PF24 with FXP settings (17mbps, I believe). I have edited these clips in PE 8 adding some titles, cross dissolves, fades, and some frame captures (1920 x 1080). It all seemed to work pretty well except for when I export it to DVD (looks like I'm stuck with the Share/DIsc/NTSC_Widescreen_Dolby and Fit Contents with maximum of 8 mbps-but this is a whole other quagmire) I'm getting artifacts (appears to be combing, perhaps?) in the frame grabs. The video seems to play fine, albeit at less than half of the HD definition. As an aside, the assets were transferred from my camcorder using Sony PMB and when I check the properties in my Videos folder it shows that the clips as being shot at 29fps and they show as 29.97 in my project.
At any rate, in my reading, it appears that my problem is the result of not having the appropriate presets for my video and I found where someone (Paul_LS) suggested that custom presets for Canon progressive camcorders can be downloaded form the Adobe support site:
    http://http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3408.
The instructions state that the presets are for a different camcorder (Canon XL-H1) and a diffrerent product (Premiere Pro 2.0) but the poster stated it would work in PE (no version).
Anyway, Step 1 is to copy the "Canon HDV.xml" file (the file I got from download is "Canon Progressive HDV.xml) to C:\Program Files (my Adobe is in Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Pro 2.0 (=> Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0)\Plug-ins\en_US\Editing Modes. There is already a file there (Adobe Editing Modes.xml).
Step 2 is to copy the "Canon HDV" folder to C:\Program Files (=> Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 (=> Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0)\Settings\en_US. MY \Settings has a small "s" and I don't have the \en_US folder but after poking around a bit it looks like the other presets are in the \Sequence Presets\NTSC folder so I put it in there and the "Canon HDV" folder shows up in under NTSC in the Change Settings box but no little plus sign to get it to open and show the presets.
Any idea what I might have done wrong?
I also saw somewhere to use the "interpret footage" box but when I tried that it slowed the audio unacceptably.
I also saw jkents new editing presets for PE8  but it says "warning-advanced users only" and I'm clearly not.
Meanwhile, I would really love to be able to shoot in HD 24fps, edit in HD 24fps, and share in HD 24fps but it looks like it's not to be with the hardware and software I have. It looks like if I upgrade to PE 10 and get an external Blu-ray burner, that might get me there, except then the people I want to share with would need a Blu-ray player. I realize this is an Adobe forum and I'm already a little bit familiar with PE (mostly with what it won't do at this point but I'm sure that's only because I don't know how) so I'm not exactly relishing the idea of yet another learning curve if I switch but I'm also not thrilled about paying Adobe (via an upgrade) to drop the ball on AVCHD so if there is an easier way, I'm all ears. For the price of the upgrade bundle it looks like it's not that far away from Premiere Pro. Would that be a better way to go?
Anyway, please pardon my ignorance. Thanks in advance and any info is appreciated.

You shouldn't have to add any presets to your program files folder. In fact, I recommend you don't toy around in there. You might break something. (I hope you haven't already!) The program already has everything you need (particularly if you've also installed Quicktime from Apple.com, per the program's requirements.)
You should not be using the HDV presets for your project. Your camcorder is not an HDV camcorder. It shoots in AVCHD, as you indicated, so it uses a different set of project settings.
Start a new Premiere Elements project and, on the screen where you name the project, click Settings. The settings you want for your project are Full AVCHD 1920x1080. Your camcorder records in either stereo or 5.1 audio, so it's important you also pick the right audio settings.
With these settings, editng should go very smoothly on your computer.
However, because your original project apparently didn't use these settings, you may be in trouble there. Go to Edit/Project Settings. (They will be grayed-out, since you can't change them mid-project.) Are they other than 1920x1080 AVC video?
In short, you'll be happy to hear that using this program is much simpler than you've been led to believe. Unfortunately, you've got to use the program correctly or you're going to put a lot of wasted effort into it.
So start with my free 8-part Basic Training tutorials at Premiere Elements support site Muvipix.com. They'll, at least, get you on the right track.

  • Which --Project Properties--Preset for 1920x1080 HDV 1080p30 footage?

    Hi,
New to the HD world and have to make lower third for my footage. My media frame size is 1920x1080 and the compressor is HDV 1080p30. (I shot it progressive because it is for the web)
I don't see a preset for HDV 1080p30? Just presets for (HDV 1080i60), (HDV 1080i50), and (HDV 1080p24). Where is the preset for HDV 1080p30 and/or which one should I use to make my lower third over the footage?
    Thanks,
    -marco

Motion Project presets are not codec specific, they just set up the project size, aspect ratio, field order and frame rate.
Pick one that matches your footage, or you can use "import as project" to create a project based on the footage you import.

  • How to create a preset for computer output of 1024x768?

I just upgraded from Premiere Elements 1.0 (yes, 1! :) ) to PE7. I record user group meetings for my local software developers group. We have screen capture at 1024x768 pixels and audio.
In PE1 I had no trouble bringing this footage in, editing it and exporting it as 1024x768 for viewing online by the members.
However, I can't seem to find anyway to create a project preset for 1024x768. It seems I can only create SD, HD and similar.
When attempting to create a custom preset 90% of the values are pre-filled with settings and I can't change them. I see textboxes for the height and width but I can't change them.
Is this a limitation of PE7? Why in the world can I not create a video any size I want? Without this ability the upgrade is almost useless to me.
Please let me know because I feel like I must just be missing something.
    Thanks!
    Matt

    Hey Steve,
    Thanks for the reply.
I did see the 720p preset and this does produce a nice image. The SD preset made the output look muddy and the screen text was unreadable.
That being said, when importing my media into a project on the 720p preset I get the black letterbox bars on the side.
I did render a 10 second test area and changed the output size to 1024x768. I was afraid it would squash the entire video, but much to my surprise it just cropped it. So, while I have to work with the letterboxing I can output an actual 1024x768 video. I was also having a little trouble because I was using File - Export Movie to, well, export my movie. When I tried the Share task, set it to PC and changed the settings this was much easier and produced a much better result.
    Thanks for the help!
FYI, I use PE7 to export it as a wmv. I'm playing with Expression Encoder to then encoded this with VC-1 for Silverlight clients.

  • Working with Pixel Dimensions and HDV Presets in Easy Setup

hi there, i’ve got another question...
i am still learning the in and out’s of hdv capture. I wanted to verify that the easy setup HDV 1080i plugin is what I want to use for import for my HDV footage which was shot with a Sony A1U HDV camera. I believe it was recorded at 1920x1080 and the imported quicktime file says it is imported at 1440 x1080(and in parentheses it says 1888x1062)..why does the HDV 1080i FCP preset not import at the same frame rate as it was recorded at….?
also does a Sony FX1 use the same HDV preset at the A1U?
    many thanks
    adam

    Tom,
    You’re right, …again!
Up till now, I really thought that I had true HD coming out of this camera; shame on me! It really does look good.
I’ve browsed the specs of my Canon HV30 User’s manual, and no where does video say 1920x1080; only 1080i ! That’s why when I ingest and capture using ProRes 422HQ, I only see the 1440x1080 Browser frame size.
(Still images from this camera do produce a 1920x1080 and 2048x1536 sizes)
Let me ask your opinion and that of anyone else out there.
If I were to use video from this camera, and move up to an external BluRay burner and player, ……would I achieve better looking DVD video quality than what I’m currently seeing when burning DVD’s using iDVD-Best Performance and playing back on a standard def (upscaling) DVD player ?
And if not, which consumer camcorder would you recommend that DOES provide true 1920x1080 for capturing into FCP, and costs under $1000 !
    Thanks

  • HDV Preset in greyed-out in New Project

    My problem:
When I try to create a "New Project" in APPro CS3 and I click on HDV I am not allowed to enter a project name. The OK is greyed-out and the HDV Preset cannot be expanded.
(I understand it is recommended to always record in HDV even if I only burn SD DVD)
II do not have an HD camcorder connected to APPro CS3 via IEEE.
I  am just going through the motions: Reading a remendous amount of information about capturing HDV in PPro CS3 before I buy a HD camcorder.
(I have PPro and Encore CS3 and have been NLE on DV for long time)).
    My machine: P6T, Intel i7 920 @2.67GHz, 2.99 RAM, ATI RADEON HD 4600, Monitor HPw2007
    I am assuming that:
    1. If I correctly set my (future) HD camera to record HDV
    2. If I do not DV-lock
    3. If I used HDV tape, and so on, then would my APPro CS3  correct my problem?
    I thank you
    Kosmas

    Kosmas,
Even with no HD material and no HD camera hooked up, you still should be able to select an HD Project Preset.
Since you are on Win7, this might not apply (seemed to be a Vista issue), but do you have Window Blinds installed? Earlier versions of that program have killed buttons in many Adobe programs.
Also, you do have the full-paid version installed, and not the trial, correct?
Unfortunately, those are my only thoughts, and I hope that others will have much more helpful info and suggestions for you.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • 1080 50P PAL preset for MOV files recorded with the Panasonic GH3

Dear Adobe team and PE11 users,
With my Panasonic GH3 I'm recording 1080 50P MOV files. I bought this camera because the mov compression is much more easier to edit then AVCHD. There is already a solution for the (non english) premiere elements 11 software with a preset for 50P AVCHD files but I can't find any discussion about MOV files. Does anyone have the same problem and a solution (with a MOV 50p PAL preset). Untill now PE11 recognise the 50p files as HDV 1080 25i files in the project settings...
    best regards,

  • Presets for 720p 60 and 1080p 30?

I'm trying to figure out the correct project presets in Premere Elements 8 to use for video created using a Contour HD camcorder.  The files it produces are .mov files using the H.264 codec with AAC audio.  The camcorder will output either 720p at 30 or 60fps or 1080p at 30fps.
I have been able to edit the 720p 30fps files using the HDV 720p 30 preset with fairly good results.  However, looking through the list of project presets I'm not sure what to choose for 720p 60 or 1080p 30.  Is there a way to be able to edit these formats in PE8?

If I go that route, I'm assuming that I would lose video quality since I would be converting to a format that has a lower resolution.  I would like to keep the videos in HD quality if possible.
After doing some more digging, I came across this post that provided additional presets for progressive video formats:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2694134#2694134
Using the preset for "AVCHD Full HD 1080p 30" I was able to directly import a 1080p file from my camcorder, edit it, and export it as a 1080p .mp4 file.  I think this should do the trick and allow me to edit my videos without converting them first.
Is this the best way to do this, or would there still be some benefit to doing an external conversion first?  Is there any drawback to selecting either AVCHD or HDV as the project format when the source files are not either of those formats?  Things seem to be working correctly now, but I suppose I would like to understand what is actually going on to avoid future headaches.
    Thanks!

  • HDV presets greyed out

I recently purchased CS3 and a Sony HDR-HC7. I recorded in HDV, have the camera set to play back in HDV, and I am connecting the camera with firewire. However, when I open a new project the HDV presets are greyed out. No HD custom settings are available either and I do not want to set up the project in DV format. Adobe On Location does recognize my camera although I have not tried capturing from this program. Researched Adobe and Sony and can not find any information. Can anyone assist me with this problem? Thanks.

    I finally figured it out.
For anyone else that has this problem, even though you pay for your software up front, it is considered a "trial" version until you activate it. The trial version does not make HDV presets available.

  • PE7: Project Presets missing

I searched for previous threads on this topic and performed the recommended steps to fix it:
    1. Tried reinstall>restart.
    2. Tried uninstall>restart>cleanup>restart>install>restart
    3. Deleted pref file and forced PE7 to create a new one.
None of the above steps helped. The project presets are still missing when I try to create a new project. I am forced to stick with 'DV NTSC Standard 48khz'. Can someone help me with this? Maybe someone can upload their presets in a zipped file and tell me where I should unzip them in my PE7 install structure.

Re: Premiere Elements 7 missing project settings...
See the last post on this.
    Hi all,
There is an even easier way to do this - avoiding the installation and all
that... Just follow the steps below:
    1) Download the Premiere Elements 7 trial version from adobe.com (or even
better - I have attached the file to this post)
    2) Run the extractor but cancel the install-process. Now all installation
files are extracted in a folder. In my case I extracted to "\desktop\Adobe
    Premiere Elements 7"
    3) Open the folder '\Adobe Premiere Elements 7\CoreTemplates' with in the
    folder you extracted to.
    4) Extract the file 'settings.zip' to a folder of your choice
    5) Now copy the folder (and subfolders) with the same language code of your
PRE7 installation (In my case I copied the 'en_US' folder) into the Adobe
program folder in a subfolder you name 'Settings'. (In my case running a
danish windows the path is 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements
    7.0\Settings'
When finish you shold have a folder called 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe
    Premiere Elements 7.0\Settings\en_US' with subfolders..
And voila - settings is back in the startup window...

    Hope this clears things up.

  • What project preset for HD TV PAL ?

    Hi,
    UK is my location.
    Premiere Pro CS3.
    HD TV's are 1920 x 1080 resolution.
New project>select a preset, I can see HDV 1080p25 and thats 1440h 1080v.  480 less in width, thats a lot. 25% in fact of a HD TV width.
Does CS4 have a preset for HD TV ?
Likewise I dont see anything near HD Ready, 1366 x 768 is a common HD Ready, the HDV 720p25 preset gives 1280h 720v, I dont see this on any TV resolution charts either.
Why are the presets not the resolutions in use on TV's or on the Wikipedia chart of such http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Vector_Video_Standards2.svg ?
What should I be choosing for a HD video making project or HD Ready ?
    Would CS4 offer those I need ?
    Envirographics

    Hi,
Ah...now understood on presets should match original footage. Thanks for that.
In my case though I have only stills and was thinking of making a slide show with also a montage pan .
What would I choose in that situation if aiming to make the video for HD 1920 x 1080 ?...no preset there that match my camera resolution of 3504 x 2336, I dont though see the point of working with 23Mb files as the TV cannot make use of all those pixels, no doubt Premiere will deal with that but such may slow it down during the project. I thought of resampling to suit a preset so hence the quandary again, what preset to use.
I have sussed from surfing the net that 1:1 pixel aspect ratio and progressive will be good for stills.
I have surfed the net for advice on stills and resolutions but not seen anything on this aspect of what project preset to start with. No tutorials either. Grateful to know of any links though to such.

  • Canon HDV preset (lack therof)

Why is it Adobe has a preset for Canon HDV 30f available as a download for Premiere 2.0 but not Premiere CS3? Am I missing something?

Well, again, maybeI'm missing something but, first of all, there is no Canon HDV 30F preset in CS3. And when I do a search, I find only a preset download for Premiere 2.0
CS3 comes with presets for 1080i 30fps but it's not the same as the Canon HDV 30F as far as I can tell. That means when you import from a Canon XH, for example, the footage needs to be rendered when it's dragged into the timeline.

  • Canon HDV preset

Adobe has a preset for Canon HDV camera, it is a seperate download. It was no problem installing it into PRO 2 and CS3 (just follow instructions), but CS4 root is somewhat different and i do not know where to put the preset.
Tried different folders but it does not show up.
    Anyone?

Oh that's a pity, its not the end off the world, just would have been nice.
The others you mention are more dramatic issues.

  • Unable To Use DVDSP4 Presets for HD-DVD in the H.264 Format

I recently prepared a 23 minute slide show using Fotomagico from high resolution Hasselblad slides scanned in at 1200 dpi. Within Fotomagico I rendered the Fotomagico slide show to Apple ProRes 422 HQ, took it into Final Cut Pro 6.03 and added an intro and closing section. I then sent this to Compressor and selected the 30 minute HD-DVD preset which uses mpeg2. All went fine with the encoding to mpeg2 and I got a successful build and format out of DVDSP4 after importing the resulting .m2v file into DVDSP4. However, while the disk plays back fine in my Mac Pro it plays back with stuttering (audio and video) on my Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD player. I used a Verbatim Datalife DVD+R, but several other discs from other manufactuers including a DVD-R disc showed the same problem.
Please note that I have the latest firmware on my Toshiba HD-A2 and I have successfully burned RL HD-DVD discs using my PC and Windows software (Ulead's DVD Movie Factory 6+) which play fine without stuttering on my HD-A2.
I then decided to send the project to Compressor and use the 60 minute HD-DVD preset that encodes to H.264. Once again Compressor successfully executed the encode of my 23 minute slide show and it plays fine in QuickTime or MPEG StreamClip. However, every time I try and import this .mov file encoded in H.264 using the Compressor preset for HD-DVD into DVDSP4, DVDSP4 brings it in to the assets folder, but after a couple of seconds DVDSP4 crashes. Using console I get a message that DVDSP4 quit unexpectedly due to a "segmentation fault".
I also tried to take the ProRes Fotomagic project in Final Cut Pro 6.02 and send it out with Quicktime Conversion using the H.264 codec. Again I have a file that plays fine in QT, but when I try and import this .mov file into DVDSP4, I get the message "imcompatible format".
In summary, I am completely frustrated after many many hours of work at trying to prepare an HD-DVD on red laser of my slide show in DVDSP4. I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong, and I would be most appreciative of any suggestions anyone may have.
    Thanks in advance.
    Tom

Am I the only person who has ever tried to use the Presets in Compressor 3 for encoding HD-DVD disks? I would like to use these presets for burning HD-DVD's to standard red laser media as I have done on my PC. With the mpeg2 Preset I can get nothing but stuttering video when played back on my Toshiba HD-A2 and when I use Compressor 3 to encode with either of the H264 presets, the resulting .mov file causes DVDSP4 to crash when I import the file. Has no one else experienced this? Does anyone have any thoughts on addressing these issues other than to go back to working on my PC?

Film is from a wedding, DV contains main footage so I assume it will need to be the base.  I am planning to use the preset for DV-Widescreen.  Is there a better option?  I'm concerned about playback as the three appear to have different PAR.  I'm using Premiere Elements 10 on W8.
Ultimately this will be burned for two formats - one for a DVD that can be watched on a widescreen TV, second for a short clip trailer to go on vimeo.
(And no I won't be doing this again for a wedding that I shoot.)
